Coaching Session Plan Generator

Turn a session goal into a timed plan: opening, exploration, commitments and close, with the questions to ask at each step.

A session plan is not a script. It is the shape of the hour: where you open, where you go deep, where you land the commitment, and the questions you reach for at each stage. This generator builds that shape for a specific client goal and session length, so you walk in with a plan and stay free to abandon it.

How to use this tool

  1. 1

Enter your niche and the length of the session.

  2. 2

Describe the goal or topic the client brought, and where they are right now if you know it.

  3. 3

Choose a style. The questions change: gentle and reflective sounds different from direct and challenging.

  4. 4

Generate. You get five or six timed blocks with questions, a closing commitment line, homework and a follow-up message to send afterwards.

The structure behind most good coaching sessions

Open with a check-in and last week's commitment. Agree the focus for today. Explore what is really going on, then widen the view: options, perspectives, what they have not considered. Narrow to a decision. Close with a commitment in the client's own words and a date. That is the GROW model, the co-active arc and half the ICF competencies in one paragraph.

The timing is what people underestimate. A 60-minute session with ten minutes of check-in and fifteen of close leaves 35 minutes for the real work. If you are always running over, the plan is usually the problem, not the client.

Using the plan without reading from it

Print or copy the plan and glance at it once between blocks. The questions are there for when you go blank, not as a checklist. Good coaches use two or three of them and let the rest go.

Inside Coachful, the follow-up message and homework from a plan become the client's tasks for the week, with check-ins that tell you before the next call whether they did them. The plan and the accountability stop being two separate documents.

Questions coaches ask

How do you structure a coaching session?

Check-in and review of last commitments (5 to 10 minutes), agree today's focus (5), explore the situation (15 to 20), widen to options and perspectives (10 to 15), decide and commit (10), close (5). The generator times these blocks to your session length and writes questions for each.

What is a coaching session plan template?

A reusable outline of the session blocks, their timings and the questions you ask in each. This generator produces one tailored to a specific goal rather than a blank template, which is more useful before a real session and still copyable for next time.

How long should a coaching session be?

Sixty minutes is the most common for 1:1. Forty-five works for well-established clients with clear goals; ninety suits deep-dive or strategy sessions. Pick the length in the generator and the blocks scale.

Can I use this for group coaching sessions?

Yes. Put "group" in the situation field and describe the group size. The exploration block becomes a round of shares and the commitment block becomes each member stating one action.

Is the session plan generator free?

Yes. Generate as many plans as you need. An email is asked for before the full plan unlocks so we can send you the file; no card, no trial.
