Christian Life Coach Certification: Programs and Credentials

Christian life coach certification comes in three forms, and the difference decides who will recognize it. There are ICF-accredited coach training programs run by Christian schools, which lead to the same International Coaching Federation credentials any professional coach can earn. There are faith-based schools' own certificates, such as a "Certified Professional Life Coach" title the school awards itself. And there are Christian credentialing bodies, which set their own standards. If you want clients, churches and employers alike to recognize your training, start with an ICF-accredited program; if you'll coach mainly within ministry, a church-based program may be all you need.
Below are six Christian coach training routes, checked on each provider's own website in October 2026, with their stated accreditation, hours, format and listed price, followed by two Christian credentials and how they compare with the ICF's. Coachful isn't a school and doesn't certify anyone; it's the platform you run the practice on once you're trained, and Coachful's team builds your coaching website for free on every plan when you get there.
How we chose and ordered these programs
Every program here describes itself as Christian or faith-based and is open to new students. We ordered them by the ICF accreditation each one states, highest level first, then by published coach training hours. We didn't rank by reviews or theology, which aren't comparable, and we quote each school's own wording because a few describe their accreditation loosely. Confirm any program in the ICF's free education search before you pay.
Christian life coach training programs compared

The programs in more detail
1. Professional Christian Coaching Institute (PCCI)
What it is: a Christian life and leadership coach training school that says "the ICF has accredited The Institute as both a Level 1 and Level 2 education provider." Its Level 1 certificate has 77 hours: The Essentials of Life Coaching (43 hours), Coaching Skills Development (24) and Ethical Practice and Risk Management (10). The Level 2 certificate adds Coaching Skills Mastery (30 hours) and an elective, for 128 hours, and leads toward the PCC. "All courses are taught live via Zoom." Price: listed per course: $2,250 for Essentials, $1,500 for each skills course and $500 for the ethics course, so the Level 1 courses come to about $4,250 by our sum, with payment plans. Credential: graduates can apply for the ICF's ACC or PCC, and PCCI also offers its own CPLC (Certified Professional Life Coach or Leadership Coach), which it calls "our comprehensive internal certification." Where it falls short: mentor coaching is described separately from the course prices, so ask for the total in writing. Pick it if you want a Christian school with a direct route to the PCC.
2. Coach Approach Ministries
What it is: a ministry whose stated mission is "Expressing and Expanding the Kingdom of God through Coaching." It offers the Certificate in Christian Leadership Coaching (CCLC), 32 hours of training plus 10 hours of mentor coaching; the CCLC+, 64 hours plus 10 mentor hours, which it says "is Level 1 accredited" with the ICF; and the Executive Christian Coach certificate, which it says "is Level 2 accredited." Format: classes are bought pay-as-you-go from a course calendar. Where it falls short: prices aren't listed, and the basic CCLC carries no stated ICF accreditation, so choose CCLC+ or ECC if the ICF route matters. Pick it if you lead in a church or ministry and want to build up hours course by course.
3. Christian Coach Institute
What it is: an online school that describes itself as an "Accredited Level 1 Coach Training Provider." Its Certified Professional Life Coach (CPLC) course is 90 ICF coach training hours, including 7 group and 3 individual mentor hours, over 16 weeks of weekly three-hour live Zoom classes, with at least 10 hours of homework a week. It also lists the course as 126 hours for the Center for Credentialing and Education. Price: $5,200 paid in full, or plans of 4 or 6 payments with a $25 monthly processing fee; textbooks (about $60) and a $150 certification fee are extra. Where it falls short: it's an ACC route; there's no Level 2 program on the pages we read. Pick it if you want a short, intense, live program with mentor hours included.
4. Brentwood Baptist Center for Christian Coaching
What it is: a church-based Certified Christian Coach (CCC) pathway "designed for ministry leaders who want to develop and master coaching competencies for use in church ministry," aimed mainly at staff and leaders in the Brentwood Baptist network, other churches and local ministries. It requires a 16-hour foundations course, 16 more hours of courses, 3 hours of one-to-one mentorship and 10 hours of practicum. Price: $75 to $350 per course depending on whether you're a church member, ministry partner or non-member. Where it falls short: the page calls the program "ICF-aligned Level 1" and also "recognized and accredited" by the ICF, but the CCC's 32 course hours are well below the 60 education hours the ACC requires, so ask exactly which hours count toward an ICF credential. Pick it if you'll coach within church ministry and want low-cost, practical training.
5. Light University
What it is: an online Christian school that has developed courses with the American Association of Christian Counselors. Its Professional Life Coaching Certification Program has more than 24 hours of video in 24 modules, self-paced, with 365 days of access, and describes a "Christ-centered approach." It's an "Educational Pathway for IBCC Certification": the Certified Christian Life Coach credential issued by the International Board of Christian Care, which needs a separate $199 application. Price: $279 "with Scholarship Tuition", against a list price of $644; the FAQ gives $634, so check at checkout. Where it falls short: no ICF or CCE accreditation is mentioned and there's no observed live coaching. Pick it if you want an inexpensive, faith-based introduction before committing to a longer program.
6. Liberty University
What it is: a 30-credit Master of Arts in Human Services Counseling with a Life Coaching concentration, delivered online in 8-week courses. Liberty says "biblical principles are integrated into each course," and that the degree "does not lead to state licensure as a counselor." Price: the page we read showed only a military rate of $310 per credit hour for 2026-2027. Where it falls short: no ICF mention, and a graduate degree is a bigger commitment than a coaching certificate. Pick it if you want an academic qualification as well as coaching skills.

Christian coaching credentials vs ICF credentials
A program certificate shows you finished a school. A credential is awarded by a body that checks your training, your coaching hours and a sample of your coaching. Two Christian bodies issue their own:
- Christian Coaches Network International (CCNI) offers three credentials, abbreviated CCC, CPCC and CMCC, each requiring training from a CCNI-recognized program, coaching hours, 10 hours of mentor coaching, Christian references, a recording and transcript, and a written assessment on Christian coaching competencies. The fee is $200 for members or $400 for non-members, including a year's membership, with renewal every three years and 40 hours of continuing education.
- International Board of Christian Care (IBCC) issues the Certified Christian Life Coach credential, reached through Light University's program and a $199 application.
| Credential | Training hours | Coaching experience | Mentor coaching |
|---|---|---|---|
| ICF ACC | 60+ | 100+ hours, 75 paid, 8+ clients | 10 hours |
| ICF PCC | 125+ | 500+ hours, 450 paid, 25+ clients | 10 hours |
| CCNI CCC | 60 | 100 hours, 8+ clients | 10 hours |
| CCNI CPCC | 125 | 500 hours | 10 hours |
| CCNI CMCC | 200 | 1,500 hours | 10 hours |
Sources: ICF experience requirements and CCNI's credentialing page, October 2026.
CCNI's tiers mirror the ICF's training hours closely. The differences are the faith requirements and who recognizes the result. One practical snag: CCNI's CPCC abbreviation is also the name of the Co-Active Training Institute's well-known Certified Professional Co-Active Coach, so spell it out on your website.

Do you need ICF accreditation as a Christian coach?
| If you plan to... | Consider | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Coach within your church or ministry | A church-based program such as Brentwood Baptist's, or CAM's CCLC | Low cost, built for ministry settings |
| Coach Christian clients privately | An ICF-accredited Christian program such as PCCI or Christian Coach Institute | Faith integration plus a credential clients can verify |
| Coach professionals or work with employers | An ICF Level 2 program, Christian or not | Coachful's 2026 Coaching Business Report notes credentials are often mandatory for corporate buyers |
| Test whether coaching is for you | A short self-paced course such as Light University's | Inexpensive, low commitment |
| Add an academic qualification | A degree route such as Liberty's | Graduate credit, though not licensure |
The ICF's Code of Ethics centers the client's own values and choices, which fits coaching that brings faith in only as the client wishes. For how that works in a session, and the boundaries with pastoral care and counseling, see our guide on how to become a Christian life coach. If you'd rather compare secular programs too, our guides to ICF-accredited coaching programs and life coach certification programs cover them.
Red flags on Christian coaching certification pages
- "ICF aligned" with no level. Teaching the ICF Core Competencies isn't accreditation. Ask which hours count toward the ACC.
- Hours that don't add up. A Level 1 program needs at least 60 coach education hours.
- Counseling content in a coaching course. Modules on trauma, suicide intervention or medication belong to licensed work. Coaches refer.
- "Board certified" from an unknown board. Find out who runs the board and whether anyone outside the school recognizes it.
- Certification in a weekend. No observed coaching, no feedback, no credential worth having.
- Prices only on a call. Ask for the total in writing, including mentor coaching and application fees.
Our seven checks before you enroll apply to faith-based programs too, and how to become a certified life coach walks through the ICF route step by step.
Where Coachful fits after you certify
Coachful isn't a training program or a certification body, and it doesn't certify anyone. It's where you run your practice while you log hours and after you graduate. A Coachful membership includes:
- ICF hour tracking. Completed sessions count toward the ACC, PCC and MCC thresholds in hours and distinct clients, and you can export an ICF client coaching log with paid and pro bono hours. More on ICF hour tracking and how to track coaching hours. The same log serves a CCNI application.
- Intake and agreements. Intake questions, including how a client wants faith included, sit on the client record, and agreements go out for e-signature before the first session.
- Daily rhythms and groups. Programs carry morning and evening check-ins, habits and weekly goals to the client's phone, and group programs create a cohort with a feed and group calls, a format churches already understand.
- Payments to your own Stripe or Razorpay account with a 0% Coachful platform fee, including payment plans for reduced-fee places.

The free build. On every plan, Coachful's team builds your coaching website, first offer page and first program inside your account, usually within about 24 hours. Choose We'll build it for you · FREE under Create, or Fill in a form on the Website page, and describe who you coach, how faith shapes the work and the pages you want. Nothing gets invented: your certification only appears once you hold it, and testimonials only if you provide them. Frequently asked questions
Is there an ICF-accredited Christian life coach certification?
Yes. The Professional Christian Coaching Institute says the ICF has accredited it as a Level 1 and Level 2 education provider, Christian Coach Institute describes itself as an accredited Level 1 provider, and Coach Approach Ministries says its CCLC+ is Level 1 and its Executive Christian Coach program Level 2. Confirm in the ICF's education search.
How much does Christian life coach certification cost?
Among the programs we checked in October 2026, listed prices ran from $279 for Light University's self-paced course to $5,200 for Christian Coach Institute's 90-hour live program, with PCCI's Level 1 courses at about $4,250 by our sum. ICF or CCNI application fees are extra.
How long does it take to become a certified Christian life coach?
Training alone ranges from a few weeks of self-paced video to 16 weeks for Christian Coach Institute's live course, and longer for Level 2. An ICF or CCNI credential also needs at least 100 coaching hours and 10 hours of mentor coaching, which usually takes months more.
Do I need certification to be a Christian life coach?
No. Life coaching isn't licensed in most countries, and certification is voluntary. It does build skill and trust, and some churches, clients and employers ask for it. Our guide on how to become a Christian life coach covers starting with or without it.
What's the difference between CCNI and ICF credentials?
Both require training hours, coaching hours, mentor coaching and an assessment, at similar levels. CCNI adds Christian references and a written assessment on Christian coaching competencies. ICF credentials are recognized more widely outside church networks, including by employers.
Can I get a biblical life coach certification online?
Yes. Every program we checked can be completed online: PCCI and Christian Coach Institute teach live on Zoom, Light University is self-paced, and Liberty's master's is delivered online in 8-week courses.
Will Coachful build my Christian coaching website for free?
Yes. Coachful's team builds coaching websites, offer pages and programs for free on every plan, inside your account, usually within about 24 hours. Coachful itself is a paid membership with a free trial; the build costs nothing extra.
