Best Life Coach Certification Programs in 2026, Compared

The best life coach certification programs aren't the ones with the biggest names. They're the ones whose ICF accreditation level matches the credential you want, that include the 10 mentor coaching hours instead of selling them later, and that put enough live practice in front of you to pass a recorded evaluation. Most sales pages make all three hard to compare, so we did the comparing.
Below are ten ICF-accredited programs, checked on each school's own website in October 2026, with their stated accreditation, hours, format, mentor coaching and published price. Then come four more worth a look, three popular programs that aren't ICF accredited, and a decision table. Coachful isn't a school and isn't ranked here; the last section covers where it fits once you're trained, including a free website build from Coachful's team.
How we chose and ordered these programs
Every program here states ICF accreditation on its own site. We ordered them by the ICF level the school states (Level 2 before Level 1), then by the coach-specific training hours the school publishes. We didn't rank by reviews, marketing claims or graduate earnings, because none of those are published in a comparable way.
Two caveats. Schools describe their own accreditation, and a few do it loosely, so we quote their wording and you should confirm the level in the ICF's free Education Search Service before you pay. And prices change; every figure below is as listed in October 2026.

The ten programs, one by one
1. Martha Beck Wayfinder Life Coach Training
What it is: Martha Beck's own training, which her site describes as a "211-hour ICF Level 2 accredited coach training program." Classes run on Zoom with an online learning space. Mentor coaching: ten group mentoring sessions and three individual sessions with a Master Coach Instructor. Method: her Change Cycle and "Wayfinding" tools, with a strong personal-growth thread. Where it falls short: the price isn't published while registration is closed; the site mentions an eight-payment plan and a $1,637 service fee deducted from refunds. Its pages say spring 2027 classes begin March 4, with registration opening in late October 2026. Pick it if you want the most published hours on this list and like the method's tone.
2. Co-Active Training Institute (CTI)
What it is: the Co-Active pathway: Foundations (8 ICF hours, one day), Ignite the Practice (52 hours toward the ACC, five days) and Deepen the Work (96.5 synchronous and 11 asynchronous hours over 20 weeks), leading to CTI's CPCC certification and preparation for the ICF PCC. The page carries the ICF Level 2 accredited education badge. Price: $490 for Foundations, $3,490 for the Co-Active Practitioner stage, $5,280 with the ACC pathway, $8,490 for Deepen and $10,470 for the complete journey. Where it falls short: the site doesn't give one total hour figure or use the term "mentor coaching"; it describes group and individual supervision instead, so ask how the 10 ICF mentor hours are met. Pick it if you want a staged path you can stop after the ACC stage.
3. iPEC Coach Training Program
What it is: three live three-day modules, spaced three months apart, virtual or in person, over 7 to 10 months part time. Graduates earn iPEC's CPC and the Energy Leadership Index Master Practitioner (ELI-MP). iPEC's FAQ says it "meets or exceeds the requirements for Level 2 accreditation with the ICF." Price: $9,995, covering 160 ICF-accredited hours, with six one-to-one sessions with a mentor coach. Where it falls short: different pages give 160, 200 and "320+" hours. Ask for the ICF-accredited number on your enrollment agreement. Pick it if you want in-person intensives and an assessment tool you can use with clients.
4. Coach U
What it is: Phase 1, Core Essentials (78 hours), which Coach U says "meets the level one pathway" for the ACC, and Phase 2, Professional Essentials (72 hours), which together complete its full ICF-accredited program. Training is live on Zoom, as two three-day blocks or a six-day intensive, with monthly courses after. Phase 1 lists group mentor coaching practicums. Price: $6,395 per phase, or $5,995 booked 28 or more days ahead, with materials included. Where it falls short: two phases means about $12,790 at standard prices for the full path, and Phase 1 asks for at least 20 hours of coaching experience. Pick it if you like short, concentrated intensives.
5. Erickson Coaching International: The Art & Science of Coaching
What it is: a solution-focused program Erickson says is accredited at Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3. Level 1 is 64 hours of instruction plus 10 hours of mentor coaching; Level 2 is 140 hours including mentoring. Online, in person, hybrid and fast-track versions exist. Price: $4,300 for Level 1 and $8,300 for Level 2, online, before taxes; a Level 3 package is $6,999. Where it falls short: its pricing page describes the mentor bundles as 3 and 6 hours of one-to-one sessions, so ask how the full 10 hours are delivered. Pick it if you want one school that can take you from ACC to MCC.
6. Institute for Life Coach Training (ILCT)
What it is: an elective-based school accredited, it says, at Level 1 and Level 2, and the first training provider approved for the Board Certified Coach credential. The ACC path is 60 hours with 10 hours of mentor coaching over about 6 to 8 months. The PCC path is 130 hours (88 required, 42 chosen from more than 40 electives) over about 18 months to two years. Price: $4,305 for the ACC path; the PCC path's average tuition is listed at $7,800. Where it falls short: the format isn't stated on the pages we read, and two prices on the same page differ slightly. Pick it if you want to choose your own electives.
7. International Coach Academy (ICA)
What it is: a fully online school with a 125-hour Level 2 program and several Level 1 options (60, 76 or 136 hours). Learning is mostly interactive e-learning plus live Zoom classes and labs, with 10 or more hours of mentor coaching. Every graduate builds their own coaching model and writes a research paper. Price: $7,752 for Level 2 paid in full, or 12 interest-free payments of $680. Where it falls short: it's at the 125-hour Level 2 minimum and mostly self-directed, and the number of live hours isn't stated. Pick it if you need to fit training around shifts or time zones.
8. Coach Training EDU
What it is: live online cohorts of 6 to 12 people, with daytime and evening options. Essentials (62.5 hours, about six months) covers the ICF Level 1 route; Advanced (another 62.5 hours, 9 to 12 months) covers Level 2. Price: $4,950 for Essentials, $7,950 for Advanced and $11,250 for its Executive track. Where it falls short: the pricing page lists 8 hours of mentor coaching with Essentials, so confirm how the ICF's 10 hours are completed. Pick it if you want small live cohorts, or a combined coaching and health coaching route.
9. Coaching Out of the Box: FastTrack to Your ICF Coaching Certification
What it is: a Level 1 program of 76 live hours on Zoom over six months, with 10 hours of mentor coaching and the performance evaluation included. A separate track continues to Level 2. Price: $4,895, or $4,195 early bird, covering what the school calls every requirement for the ACC application. Where it falls short: it's an ACC route; the 95% first-attempt pass rate on its homepage is self-reported. Pick it if you want an all-inclusive ACC program with all live hours.
10. Coach Training Alliance: Certified Coach Program
What it is: a six-month, Level 1 program of 75 hours, 60 of them ICF education hours, taught in weekly virtual group classes with weekly instructor-led mentor sessions. Its focus is getting a new coach into practice. Price: $3,949, with a promotional discount advertised at the time we checked. Where it falls short: it sits at the 60-hour Level 1 floor. Pick it if you want the lowest published price for a full Level 1 program on this list and a business-building angle.

Four more worth a look
- Life Purpose Institute. Calls itself an ICF-accredited training institution and shows Level 1 and 2 badges. Its live 60-hour certification is $2,995; a 139-hour path leads toward the PCC. Its On-Demand certification, from $1,495, is LPI's own certificate and, in its words, "not ICF accredited."
- Academy of Creative Coaching. A 60-hour Foundations course ($4,495) and a 125-hour Advanced Professional Coaching Certification ($9,995) it describes as ICF Level 2, online or in person in Atlanta. Some pages still use older ICF terms, so check the level in the directory.
- Accomplishment Coaching. A 12-month program of 212 contact hours, in person, virtual or blended, with weekly one-to-one coaching from a graduate program coach. Its menu labels it Level 2, but the body copy doesn't state the accreditation, and the price isn't published.
- University of Wisconsin-Madison Certified Professional Coach. A 125-plus hour Level 2 program over 10 months, live online, with 10 mentoring hours, at $12,990. Its Level 1 program was still "under review" when we checked.
Popular, but not ICF accredited
These show up in every search. None of them states ICF accreditation, which puts you on the slower, pricier Portfolio path if you later want an ICF credential.
- Jay Shetty Certification School. 108-plus hours of live, on-demand and peer-lab training over about six months, with a curriculum accredited by the Association for Coaching and a non-regulated level 7 endorsement. The price is given on a sales call.
- The Life Coach School's Accelerated Coach Certification. Designed to be finished in about two weeks of short videos and worksheets, for $5,000. No external accreditation is stated; you pass the school's own evaluation.
- Certified Coaches Federation. Promises certification "in just 6 weeks," names no outside accreditor, and leans on scarcity copy. Its credential comes from a body with "Federation" in its name, which isn't the ICF.
A non-ICF certificate can still teach you a lot, and our guide to becoming a life coach without certification covers that route honestly. Just know what you're buying.

Which program fits you: a decision table
| If you... | Look at | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Want the ACC for the lowest published tuition | Coach Training Alliance, Life Purpose Institute (live track) | Full Level 1 programs under $4,000 as listed |
| Want every ACC requirement in one price | Coaching Out of the Box | Mentor coaching and the performance evaluation stated as included |
| Expect corporate buyers to ask for a PCC | CTI, iPEC, Erickson Level 2, ICA Level 2, Coach Training EDU | Level 2 lets you apply for the PCC directly |
| Want long, live training | Martha Beck Wayfinder, CTI, Coach U | Long or intensive live formats |
| Need a flexible, mostly self-paced schedule | International Coach Academy | E-learning plus live labs, up to 18 months |
| Might go all the way to MCC | Erickson | Level 1, 2 and 3 at one school |
| Prefer a university certificate | UW-Madison | Level 2, live online cohort |
Level 1 or Level 2 is the biggest fork. Our comparison of ICF ACC, PCC and MCC explains when the PCC is worth aiming for from day one, and our guide to ICF certification covers the fees, review times and the 2027 mentor coaching rule.
Red flags on any certification sales page
- "ICF aligned" with no level. Teaching the Core Competencies isn't accreditation.
- A price you can only get on a call. Ask for the total in writing, including mentor coaching and any evaluation fee.
- Certification in days or weeks, with no observed coaching. The ICF's Level 1 standard alone includes five observed sessions with written feedback.
- Hour totals that change from page to page. Get the ICF-accredited figure on your agreement.
- Guarantees about clients or income. A program can teach coaching; it can't promise a practice.
Our seven checks before you enroll turn these into questions to send a school, and what it costs to become a life coach adds up the costs beyond tuition.

Where Coachful fits after you certify
Coachful isn't a training program or a certification body, and it doesn't credential anyone. It's the platform you run your practice on while you log hours and after you graduate. Here's what's included in a Coachful membership that matters to a newly trained life coach:
- ICF hour tracking. Completed sessions count toward the ACC, PCC and MCC thresholds in hours and distinct clients, and you can export an ICF client coaching log with paid and pro bono hours. Older sessions can be logged by hand. More on ICF hour tracking and how to track coaching hours.
- Booking and payment in one step, with intake questions and two-way Google, Apple and Outlook calendar sync.
- Programs, habits, goals and check-ins in a client app on iPhone and Android, so the coaching between sessions has a home.
- Session notes your clients can see, summarized across sessions.

Why Coachful stands out: a free white-glove service. On every plan, Coachful's team builds your coaching website, first offer page and first program inside your account, usually within about 24 hours. Choose We'll build it for you · FREE under Create, or Fill in a form on the Website page, and say which pages you want and what they should do. Nothing gets invented: your certification only appears once you hold it. See what the free build includes, or the Coachful page for life coaches.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best life coach certification program?
There isn't one best program; there's a best fit. If you want an ICF credential, start with a program whose stated level matches it: Level 1 for the ACC, Level 2 for the PCC. Then compare live hours, whether mentor coaching is included, and the total written price.
Which life coach certification is most respected?
Among buyers who check, an ICF credential such as the ACC or PCC carries the most weight, because the ICF verifies it independently of your school. A school's own certificate proves you finished that school's program. Coachful's 2026 Coaching Business Report notes credentials are often mandatory for corporate buyers.
How much does a good life coach certification cost?
Among the ICF-accredited programs we checked, published prices ran from $2,995 for a live 60-hour program to $12,990 for a university Level 2 program, as listed in October 2026. ICF application fees are separate: $175 to $625 for the ACC.
Is an ICF-accredited program required to get the ACC?
No, but it's the faster and cheaper route. Without one, you apply on the ICF's Portfolio path, where the ACC fee rises to $475 for members and the estimated review is 14 weeks instead of 4.
Can I do a life coach certification online?
Yes. Most programs here run live online, and some are mostly self-paced. Our guide to life coach certification online compares live, hybrid and self-paced formats.
What's the cheapest ICF-accredited life coach certification?
Of the programs we checked, Life Purpose Institute's live ICF-accredited certification listed the lowest price at $2,995, and Coach Training Alliance listed $3,949, both as of October 2026. Check what each includes, especially mentor coaching, before comparing.
Will Coachful build my coaching website after I get certified?
Yes. Coachful's team builds your coaching website, first offer page and first program for free on every plan, usually within about 24 hours. Coachful itself is a paid membership with a free trial; the build costs nothing extra.
