Best App for Recovery Coaches: Top 7 Picks for 2026

Best App for Recovery Coaches: Top 7 Picks for 2026

The best app for recovery coaches is the one your clients will actually open at 7am on a hard day: a quick morning check-in, a habit to tick, a short lesson, a message to you, and a group of peers who understand. So the deciding question is not which tool has the longest feature list. It is which phone app carries a recovery client through the hundred-plus waking hours between your calls, while your bookings, payments and notes stay connected behind it.

Our pick is Coachful. Its client app runs on iPhone and Android and puts your branding, your programs, daily habits, morning and evening check-ins, messaging and a community in one place, all fed from the same back office where you book sessions and take payments. We make Coachful, so weigh that, and read the six alternatives below: each wins a specific situation, and a few of them have no native app at all.

This guide covers what recovery clients do in an app week to week, a quick-picks table by scenario, how we chose, one section per app, a feature matrix, a day in the life of one client, three example stacks with monthly costs, the mistakes to avoid, and an FAQ. If you are still setting up your practice, start with how to become a recovery coach.

What do recovery clients actually do in an app between sessions?

They check in, track a small number of daily habits, read or watch short material, message their coach, and lean on peers. Recovery coaching is built on that between-session rhythm far more than on the hour you spend together.

Recovery coaching, as the Wikipedia overview of recovery coaching describes it, uses a partnership model in which the client is the expert on their own life and the coach supports change. The label covers several roles, from professional coaches in private practice to peer recovery support specialists and family recovery coaches. Whatever your version, a typical client week looks like this:

  • Daily check-ins. A short morning intention and an evening reflection: mood, cravings on a simple scale, what helped, what was hard. The value is the pattern over weeks, which you see before the next call.
  • A handful of habits. Meeting attendance, a walk, journaling, sleep by a set time, calling a sponsor or friend. Three to five habits beat fifteen.
  • Program material in small doses. A week-three lesson on triggers, a relapse-prevention worksheet, an audio grounding exercise. Clients consume these on the bus or in a parked car, so phone access matters.
  • Messaging. A quick "rough evening, but I'm okay" to their coach, and replies within your stated hours.
  • Community. A cohort or peer group where people share wins and hard days. For many clients this is the part that keeps them opening the app.
  • Sessions. Booking, rescheduling and joining the video call, with reminders so a missed session does not quietly become a missed month.

An app that handles only one or two of these pushes the rest into texts, emails and a separate group chat, which is exactly where clients drift. Our guide to client communication platforms for coaches goes deeper on the messaging side.

Which app wins for each recovery coaching scenario?

Coachful is the best overall client app for recovery coaches; the others win narrower situations. Ranking criteria in one line: one login for the whole client journey, between-session delivery (habits, check-ins, programs, community), total stack cost, and setup effort, including Coachful's free white-glove build.

Thinking of launching your coaching business?

Answer a few questions and Coachful builds it around you: your website, programs, booking and payments. Ready in minutes.

Build your platform

How did we choose these seven apps?

We looked at the experience from the client's side first, then checked that the coach's back office connects to it. We did not run hands-on tests; this is based on what each vendor documents and what public reviewers report, with prices as listed in October 2026.

  1. Daily habits and check-ins. Can the client log a morning and evening check-in and tick habits, and can you see the trend?
  2. Program and lesson access. Can you deliver a multi-week program with lessons that unlock over time?
  3. Messaging and community. Is there 1:1 messaging plus a peer space, ideally a cohort group that forms automatically?
  4. Progress tracking. Goals, streaks, progress bars, something the client can feel moving.
  5. Branding. Does the client see your name and look, or the vendor's?
  6. iPhone and Android. Is there a native app on both, or only a mobile browser?
  7. Back office connection. Do bookings, payments and agreements live in the same system, or does the client juggle logins?
  8. Total monthly cost. Including add-ons, platform fees on sales, and the second tool you would need to fill gaps.

Recovery-specific weight: we favoured apps that make the daily rhythm easy and keep personal disclosures in private spaces, since clients share sensitive detail. Tools aimed at clinical treatment records were judged on coaching use only.

1. Coachful: the best app for recovery coaches overall

Scenario it wins: you coach individuals and small groups through structured recovery programs and want every between-session touchpoint, from the morning check-in to the peer group, inside one app your clients install once.

Habit tracker cards on a phone and an enrolled group program on a laptop by a sunlit window

Coachful is a coaching platform where one subscription covers booking, payments, coaching agreements, program delivery with habits and check-ins, courses, a community, a website with funnels and email, and an AI assistant. The coach has one login; the client has one app. That app is on iPhone and Android: clients download Coachful and see your branding inside it. It is not published under your own App Store account, which matters if you were picturing your name in the store (our guide to custom branded coaching apps explains the trade-offs).

What the client opens every day

Programs run for multiple weeks, each with weekly goals and daily tasks. You attach habits (a meeting, a walk, journaling) and morning and evening check-ins, and the client sees goals with progress bars and streaks. For recovery work, that streak and the visible trail of check-ins often do more than any single lesson: the client can look back at 40 days of small wins on a day when it feels like nothing has changed.

Goals tie the pieces together. A goal page pulls linked tasks and habits into a daily momentum view, with daily and weekly reflection tabs below, so "stay sober through the holidays" becomes concrete actions the client can see.

Courses with modules, drip schedules and completion tracking land in the same app, along with downloads, videos, audio and books. Your relapse-prevention workbook, a grounding audio and a week-by-week lesson on high-risk situations sit next to the client's habits instead of in a separate login.

Community and messaging without a second tool

Coachful includes a community feed, group chat, direct messages and video events. When a client enrolls in a program, they are added to a cohort group automatically, which is useful for recovery cohorts that start together. Group calls and webinars run from the same place. You decide what is shared in the open feed and what stays in private messages.

What you see behind the app

Every check-in, habit, goal and note lands on the client record, along with intake answers, tags, payments and sessions. Each client carries a status of thriving, active, quiet or at risk, so a client who stops checking in surfaces before your next call rather than after. Michelle, the built-in AI assistant, works from that live data: it can brief you before a session, summarize recorded sessions and draft follow-up emails. Questions and planning are included in your Coachful membership; confirmed builds and changes use AI credits. An optional AI Coach lets selected clients chat with an AI version of you between sessions, configured by you; for recovery clients, think carefully about which clients it suits and set clear limits on what it is for.

Set up the check-ins once in the flow library and every enrolled client receives them. Here is a short walkthrough of how check-ins are built:

The back office covers the rest of the journey. Booking pages handle availability rules, buffers, minimum notice and time zones, with two-way Google, Apple and Outlook calendar sync and built-in video or auto-created Zoom, Meet or Teams links. Reminders go out by email, plus SMS 24 hours before and WhatsApp one hour before once messaging is enabled. Payments run through your own Stripe Connect or Razorpay account (one-time, subscriptions, payment plans), with a 0% Coachful platform fee since August 2026; only Stripe or Razorpay processing applies. Coaching agreements with e-signature go out before the first call and are stored on the client record.

Why Coachful stands out: a free white-glove service. From Create, the "We'll build it for you" option lets you describe what you need, such as a 12-week recovery program outline, an intake form, a booking funnel or a website, attach up to 8 reference links and up to 10 files, and the Coachful team builds it inside your account, usually within about 24 hours. Nothing is invented: no fake credentials, testimonials or prices, and any gaps are left for you to fill. It does not cover recording videos, logo design or ad management. One recent example: a leadership coach with a website renewal days away got one clean homepage with a repeated "talk with me" button. Read more about the free white-glove service.

Coachful Create page with the card offering to have the team build it for you
The Create page in Coachful with the We'll build it for you card that starts a white-glove request.

What Coachful does not do. It is not HIPAA-certified and offers no BAA, so it is not for clinical record-keeping or insurance billing; if you work inside a treatment provider that requires HIPAA, that rules it out. There is no PayPal and no permanent free plan. It does not sync with Garmin, Fitbit, Whoop or Oura, and Apple Health sync is not publicly available. The client app ships under the Coachful listing with your branding.

Pricing. Flat monthly plans; lower plans cap the number of clients, Pro is unlimited, and monthly plans cancel in one click. Current plans: (Lite: $29/month for up to 5 clients; Solo: $49/month for up to 20 clients; Pro: $99/month with unlimited clients; Studio: $199/month with unlimited clients). A free trial lets you set up a program before any client sees it. Coachful is based in Tallinn, Estonia, and holds a Trustpilot rating of 4.5 from 21 reviews (September 2026).

How to start: open a free trial, request a white-glove build of your first program or intake funnel, and invite two or three clients to test the morning check-in before you roll it out. Coachful is built for coaches who deliver programs, not just sessions, and for those replacing four to six tools. See also our page for health coaches and page for life coaches.

2. Mighty Networks: best for a large peer-support community

When the heart of your offer is a community, say a few hundred people in recovery meeting for weekly livestreams, discussion threads and a course library, Mighty Networks is the strongest fit on this list after Coachful.

Mighty Networks homepage promoting its community, courses and events platform
Mighty Networks's homepage in October 2026.

Mighty Networks combines community, courses and events, and members use Mighty-branded apps on their phones. As listed in October 2026, Launch costs $95/mo ($79/mo billed annually) with 3 hosts, 10 moderators, 200 GB of storage and 20 hours of livestreaming a month for up to 100 attendees. Scale is $215/mo ($179/mo billed annually). A 14-day trial needs no credit card and includes Growth plan features.

The client experience. Members get a feed, groups, courses and live events in an app that feels like a social network, which suits peer recovery where shared stories carry weight. Moderators help a busy coach keep the space safe.

The gap for recovery coaching. There are no per-client habits, check-ins or private coaching plans, and no 1:1 scheduling, invoicing or contracts. Your one-to-one clients would need a second system, which means a second login for them. Mighty also takes a platform fee on sales: 2% on Launch, 1% on Scale and 0.5% on Growth and Mighty Pro, plus Stripe processing. Your own branded app is only on custom-priced Mighty Pro.

Pick it over Coachful if your business is mostly a large community with group events, 1:1 work is a small add-on you can handle elsewhere, and a social-network feel matters more than daily check-ins.

3. Circle: best for a paid sober-living membership

Running a paid membership for people in long-term recovery, with themed spaces, a course or two and regular live streams? Circle's polished community spaces are built for that shape of business.

Circle homepage promoting its community platform for creators and brands
Circle's homepage in October 2026.

Circle offers community, courses, events, live streams and paid memberships. As listed in October 2026, Professional is $89/mo billed annually (3 admins, 10 moderators, 2,500 AI credits a month) and Business is $199/mo billed annually. There is a 14-day trial with no credit card on Professional, Business and Scale. Circle charges a fee on payments: 2% on Professional, 1% on Business and Scale, 0.5% on Circle Plus, plus Stripe processing. Public reviewers give it 4.1 on Trustpilot from 129 reviews (seen October 2026).

On the phone. Members can follow spaces, threads and live sessions from Circle's mobile app. Branded mobile apps under your own name are only on custom-priced Circle Plus.

Missing pieces. Circle has no 1:1 scheduling or client management back office, and no per-client habits, check-ins or coaching plans. A recovery client who also does private sessions with you would book and pay elsewhere and do their daily tracking in yet another tool.

Pick it over Coachful if you sell a membership community first and foremost, want granular spaces and moderation roles, and do little or no individual coaching.

4. Practice Better: best inside a wellness practice that needs charting

Recovery coaches who work alongside nutritionists or other wellness practitioners in a shared practice, and who need charting and telehealth in the same place, will find Practice Better familiar ground.

Practice Better homepage promoting practice management for wellness practitioners
Practice Better's homepage in October 2026.

Practice Better is practice management for wellness and nutrition practitioners: scheduling, telehealth, charting, billing, programs and a client portal that clients can also reach through its mobile app (our Practice Better app guide covers what clients get). As listed in October 2026, the Sprout plan is $0/mo for 3 clients, Starter is $35/mo ($25/mo billed annually) for 10 clients, Professional is $69/mo ($59/mo billed annually) for 300 clients, and Plus is $99/mo ($89/mo billed annually) with unlimited clients. Trials run 14 days on paid plans and 30 days on Team.

Where it fits recovery clients. Programs and a client portal give clients a place for materials, forms and messages, and the scheduling and billing are solid for one-to-one work.

Where it falls short. Several features recovery coaches care about start on Plus at $99/mo: evergreen programs, portal branding, a custom URL and SMS. An older profile notes no website builder or funnel pages, and accounts below Team allow one practitioner. Trustpilot shows 3.8 from 87 reviews (seen October 2026). It is a clinical-style practice tool; check its own compliance documentation if you need HIPAA.

Pick it over Coachful if you work in a multi-discipline wellness practice that already charts in Practice Better, or you need clinical-style notes and telehealth more than habits, cohorts and community.

5. CoachAccountable: best for worksheets, metrics and action plans

Some recovery coaches run their work almost entirely on accountability: weekly action plans, metrics the client reports, worksheets after each session. CoachAccountable is designed around exactly that.

CoachAccountable homepage describing its coaching management tools
CoachAccountable's homepage in October 2026.

CoachAccountable is a coaching back office with sessions, action plans, metrics, worksheets, courses, invoicing and agreements. As listed in October 2026, pricing is per active client: Starter $20/mo for 2, Level 1 $40/mo for 5, Level 2 $70/mo for 10, Level 3 $120/mo for 20 and Level 4 $250/mo for 50. A 30-day trial needs no credit card. Public reviewers rate it highly: 4.8 on Trustpilot from 47 reviews (seen October 2026).

No native app. An older profile reports no native mobile app, so clients use it in a mobile browser. For a client who wants to log a craving score at a bus stop, that is a real step down from tapping an app icon.

Other limits. Per-client pricing gets expensive for group programs, and an older profile notes no landing pages, website or marketing automation. By its own statement in that profile, it is not HIPAA compliant. There is no community feed, so peer support lives elsewhere. Our list of CoachAccountable alternatives compares options.

Pick it over Coachful if you coach a small number of individuals, your method is metric- and worksheet-driven, and clients are comfortable working in a mobile browser.

6. Skool: best low-cost group community

Skool is the budget route for a recovery coach starting a group: one community with a classroom, a calendar for live calls and gamified leaderboards, for a low monthly fee.

Skool homepage promoting community groups with courses and a calendar
Skool's homepage in October 2026.

As listed in October 2026, Hobby is $9/mo ($7.50/mo billed annually) and Pro is $99/mo ($82.50/mo billed annually), both with unlimited members, courses, videos and live calls. The catch is transaction fees through Skool Payments, the only payment option: 10% + 30¢ on every transaction on Hobby, and 2.9% + 30¢ (3.9% + 30¢ above $900) on Pro. Trial length is not stated on its pricing page. Trustpilot shows 1.6 from 54 reviews (seen October 2026).

Good to know before your group joins. Members follow the community, classroom and calendar from Skool's own app. Leaderboards can motivate some members, but think about whether points and rankings suit people in early recovery, where comparison can sting.

What it leaves out. No 1:1 client records, intake forms, habits or check-ins. No custom-domain website, funnels, email automation or public API. A $500 group program sold on Hobby would lose $50.30 to Skool's 10% + 30¢ fee alone (example figure).

Pick it over Coachful if you only run one group, want the lowest possible monthly fee to test the idea, and accept per-sale fees and no private coaching tools.

7. Everfit: best when recovery centres on exercise routines

For recovery coaches who build much of their work around movement, such as a daily walk, gym sessions and sleep, Everfit's fitness-first app gives clients structured workouts and habits on their phone.

Everfit homepage promoting its coaching app for trainers and their clients
Everfit's homepage in October 2026.

Everfit is a fitness coaching app with workouts, habits, nutrition and messaging, priced by client count. As listed in October 2026, the Starter plan is free for up to 5 clients, Pro starts at $19/mo ($16/mo billed annually) for 5 clients, rising to $29/mo for 10 and $49/mo for 20, and Studio starts at $105/mo for 50 clients. A 30-day trial needs no credit card.

Client side. A clean phone app with workouts and habit tracking, which suits clients for whom exercise is a core part of staying well.

Limits. Automation (Autoflow), payments and meal plans are paid add-ons. There is no course builder, website, funnels or email marketing, and the tool is designed for training, not for recovery lessons or reflective check-ins. Trustpilot shows 2.7 from 16 reviews (seen October 2026). If fitness is your main angle, compare it with Coachful's Fitness & Nutrition pack, which adds a workout builder and logging to the same client app.

Pick it over Coachful if you coach five or fewer clients, almost entirely through training plans, and want to start at no cost.

How do the seven client apps compare feature by feature?

Only Coachful combines daily habits, check-ins, programs, 1:1 messaging and community in one native app connected to booking and payments. The matrix below reflects vendor documentation and our packet data as of October 2026.

What does a day in Coachful's client app look like for a recovery client?

Short, predictable touchpoints from morning to night, each taking a minute or two. Here is an illustrative day for an example client we will call Sam, in week five of a 12-week recovery program. Sam and the details are examples, not a real customer.

A community feed on a laptop and a check-in flow library on a phone in a lamp-lit living room
Coachful's demo community feed and check-in flows on a laptop and phone, on a low table with a journal in the evening.
  1. 7:10am, morning check-in. Sam opens the app and answers three questions you wrote: sleep quality, mood, and one intention for the day ("call my sister after work"). Takes under a minute.
  2. 7:15am, habits. Sam ticks "morning walk" from yesterday's list and sees the streak move to 34 days. The goal page shows "90 days alcohol-free" with its progress bar a little further along.
  3. 12:30pm, a lesson. Week five's lesson on handling work stress unlocks. Sam reads it on a lunch break and downloads the worksheet.
  4. 5:40pm, community. Sam's cohort group, created automatically when the program started, has a post from another member about a tough family dinner. Sam replies.
  5. 6:00pm, a message to you. "Got through a rough meeting today without reaching for a drink. Want to talk about it Thursday." You reply the next morning within your stated hours.
  6. Thursday reminder. An SMS arrives 24 hours before the session and a WhatsApp message an hour before, with the video link.
  7. 9:30pm, evening check-in. Craving score, what helped, one thing Sam is grateful for.
Coachful client Programs view with an enrolled group program, its current week and members

On your side, Sam's client record shows the check-in history, habit streaks and the message, and the status stays at thriving. If Sam goes quiet for several days, the status shifts and Michelle can include that in your pre-session briefing. You did not chase anyone by text, and Sam never left one app. For more on building a client app experience like this, see how to create a coaching app without developers.

What do three realistic app stacks cost per month?

A single platform usually costs less than a pair of tools once you add the second login and platform fees. These example stacks use prices as listed in October 2026 for a recovery coach with about 15 clients plus a group.

StackWhat clients getGapsMonthly cost
Coachful on its ownOne app: check-ins, habits, programs, community, messaging, booking and paymentsNo PayPal; not HIPAA-certifiedSolo: $49/month for up to 20 clients
Practice Better Professional + Skool HobbyPortal for 1:1 work plus a separate group appTwo logins; no check-in streaks; Skool takes 10% + 30¢ per group sale$69 + $9 = $78/mo, plus Skool transaction fees
CoachAccountable Level 3 + Circle ProfessionalBrowser-based action plans plus a separate community appNo native app for 1:1 work; two systems; Circle 2% fee$120 + $89 (billed annually) = $209/mo, plus Circle's 2% on payments

The second and third stacks also mean two sets of notifications for clients and two places for you to look when someone goes quiet. Add your payment processor's fees to every option.

What mistakes do recovery coaches make when picking a client app?

The common mistake is choosing for the coach's convenience instead of the client's daily habit. Others follow from that.

  • Picking a browser-only tool for daily tracking. If logging a check-in means finding a bookmark and logging in, many clients stop by week three.
  • Splitting 1:1 and group into separate apps. Clients who join your group and book sessions end up with two logins, two notification streams and two places to message you.
  • Overloading the daily routine. Twelve habits and a ten-question check-in feel like homework. Start with three habits and a three-question check-in.
  • Ignoring platform fees. A 2% to 10% cut on every program sale adds up faster than the monthly fee.
  • Putting sensitive disclosures in the open feed. Keep relapse details and personal history in private messages and the client record, and set community guidelines on day one.
  • Buying a clinical tool for coaching, or a coaching tool for clinical work. If you need HIPAA, a BAA or insurance billing, choose for that. If you coach, do not pay for charting you will not use.
  • Forgetting the AI and automation limits. Automated messages and AI chat can support between-session contact, but they are no replacement for your judgment when a client is struggling.

Where does recovery coaching end and treatment begin?

Recovery coaching is not addiction treatment, therapy, detox or medical care, and no app changes that. Coaches support goals, routines and accountability; clinicians diagnose and treat.

Refer a client to a doctor, addiction specialist or licensed therapist when there is a risk of withdrawal, a relapse that puts them or others in danger, signs of a co-occurring mental health condition, or any talk of self-harm. In an emergency, direct them to local emergency services or a crisis line straight away. Write your referral process into your coaching agreement and onboarding, and make sure clients know your app messages are not monitored around the clock. Coachful is not HIPAA-certified, so keep clinical records in the systems your clinical partners use.

Which app should a recovery coach choose?

Choose Coachful if you want one app that carries a recovery client through daily check-ins, habits, program lessons, messaging and a peer cohort, with booking, agreements and payments connected behind it. It is the only pick here that does all of that in a native iPhone and Android app, and the free white-glove build gets your first program set up quickly.

Choose Mighty Networks or Circle when a large community is the product and 1:1 coaching is minor. Choose Practice Better inside a multi-discipline wellness practice that charts. Choose CoachAccountable for metric-driven work with a few clients who do not mind a browser. Choose Skool to test a single low-cost group, and Everfit when training plans are the core of your method. Frequently asked questions

What is the best app for recovery coaches in 2026?

Coachful is our top pick because its iPhone and Android client app combines daily check-ins, habits, programs, messaging and community, connected to booking and payments. Mighty Networks and Circle suit community-first businesses, and Practice Better suits coaches inside a charting wellness practice. We make Coachful, so compare the alternatives above against your own needs.

Does Coachful give me my own app in the App Store?

No. Clients download the Coachful app on iPhone or Android and see your branding, programs and community inside it. It is not published under your own App Store account.

Is Coachful HIPAA compliant for recovery work?

No. Coachful is not HIPAA-certified and does not sign a BAA, so it is not suitable for clinical record-keeping or insurance billing. It is built for coaching: goals, habits, check-ins and accountability. If you work within a treatment provider that requires HIPAA, choose a tool built for that.

What is Coachful's free white-glove service?

It is a build service included on every plan. You describe what you want, such as a recovery program outline, an intake form, a funnel or a website, attach up to 8 links and 10 files, and the Coachful team builds it inside your account, usually within about 24 hours. It does not include recording videos, logo design or ad management.

Which recovery coaching apps have no native mobile app?

Of the tools in this list, CoachAccountable has no native mobile app according to an older profile, so clients use a mobile browser. Paperbell and Satori, two other coaching back-office tools, also had no native app in older profiles. Coachful, Mighty Networks, Circle, Skool and Everfit all offer phone apps.

Can recovery clients track sobriety streaks in Coachful?

Yes, through habits and goals. You can set a habit or goal such as days alcohol-free, and the client sees streaks and progress bars, alongside morning and evening check-ins. You see the same data on their client record.

How many habits should a recovery client track?

Three to five is a practical starting point. A meeting, a walk, journaling and a sleep target cover a lot of ground. Add more only when the client asks or the first set has become routine.

Can I run peer groups and 1:1 coaching in the same app?

In Coachful, yes: the community feed, group chat and automatic cohort groups sit in the same app as 1:1 messaging, sessions and programs. Mighty Networks, Circle and Skool handle groups well but lack 1:1 scheduling and per-client tracking.

Do any of these apps take a cut of my sales?
