7 Best Workout Builder Software for Coaches (2026 Guide)

7 Best Workout Builder Software for Coaches (2026 Guide)

The best workout builder software for coaches is the one that still works after the workout is written. Almost every fitness app can drag an exercise into a session and set sets, reps and rest. What sets the tools apart is what happens next: does the client log the session in the same place they book calls, sign their agreement, pay you, answer their weekly check-in and talk to the rest of the group? Or are you stitching a programming app to a scheduler, a payment link, a form tool and an email platform? That is the deciding question, and it shapes every ranking below.

Our pick is Coachful, because it puts the workout builder, the exercise library, client logging, nutrition targets, check-ins, booking, payments, agreements, courses, community and your website behind one login, with one branded app for the client. We make Coachful, so we have tried to be specific about where the other six tools are a better fit, and every entry ends with the situation in which you should choose it instead.

All vendor prices below are as listed on each vendor's pricing page in October 2026, in US dollars, before tax and payment processing. Check the vendor's own page before you buy, because fitness apps change their client tiers often.

What do coaches need from workout builder software?

Coaches need a builder that writes training quickly, records what the client actually did, and keeps the client moving between sessions. The builder itself is only the first of those jobs.

Think about a normal week for an online or hybrid coach. You write or adjust a block of training, often by copying last week and applying a little progressive overload. Clients log their sets, and you look at the numbers to decide what changes. Someone sends a squat video and asks whether their knees are caving. A new lead books a consult, fills in an intake form, signs an agreement and pays. Another client goes quiet for nine days and you only notice when their renewal fails. Each of those moments lives in a different place unless your software covers it.

So the practical checklist looks like this:

  • Programming speed. An exercise library, templates, and support for the structures you actually use: supersets, circuits, AMRAP, EMOM, intervals and tempo.
  • Client logging. Set history and personal records the client can see, so they notice their own progress.
  • Your own demo videos. Clients trust your cues more than a stock clip. Check that you can attach your own footage.
  • Between-session structure. Habits, daily tasks, morning and evening check-ins, weekly check-in forms, progress photos and measurements.
  • Nutrition. Calorie and macro targets at minimum, with meal plans if you coach food as well as training.
  • The business side. Booking, payments, payment plans, agreements and invoices. If these are add-ons, price them in.
  • Groups. Running one cohort program next to your one-to-one clients without duplicating everything.
  • Getting found. A website, a sales page and an email list, or at least a clean way to connect the ones you have.

There is also a scope question. Fitness coaching is not medical treatment or physical therapy. Screen new clients with a readiness questionnaire, program for healthy adults within your qualification, and refer to a physician or licensed physical therapist when someone reports pain, an injury, a diagnosed condition, pregnancy complications or a red flag on screening. The CDC's physical activity guidelines for adults are a sensible public reference point for general activity targets. None of the tools in this list are clinical record systems, and Coachful is not HIPAA-certified, so if you work inside a clinic that handles protected health information, read the HHS HIPAA guidance and talk to the practice's compliance lead before choosing anything.

Which workout builder is best at a glance?

Coachful leads for coaches who sell programs and want the whole client journey in one place; the dedicated fitness apps lead on narrower jobs.

Ranking criteria: one login for the whole client journey, delivery between sessions, total monthly stack cost, and setup effort (including Coachful's free white-glove build).

How did we choose and rank these tools?

We ranked each tool against one realistic practice rather than a feature checklist. Picture an online strength coach with 15 one-to-one clients who also runs one eight-week group program twice a year. That coach needs to write training fast, see logs and check-ins, take a consult booking, collect a monthly payment or a payment plan, get an agreement signed, run a cohort, and publish a sales page for the next intake.

For each tool we asked four questions. How many of those jobs happen inside one login? What does the client do between sessions, and does the software prompt them? What does the full stack cost once you add the scheduler, payments, email and website you would otherwise buy separately? And how much setup stands between signing up and the first paying client?

We did not run hands-on tests. Feature and price claims come from each vendor's published pricing and feature pages as listed in October 2026, and from what public reviewers report. Where a vendor's page did not show a figure, we say so rather than guess. Trustpilot scores are quoted as seen on October 25, 2026, and small review counts tell you little on their own.

If you coach more nutrition than training, our guide to software for nutrition coaches weighs the same tools from that side.

1. Coachful: best for coaches who sell programs, not only workouts

Coachful is the strongest choice when your workouts are part of a paid program that also includes check-ins, nutrition, calls and a group. It is a coaching platform rather than a training app with business features added, so the workout builder sits next to everything else you use to run the practice.

A laptop on a gym bench showing a client's My Coaching page with a 90-day journey, next to hex dumbbells
Coachful's client My Coaching page with a 90-day journey section, shown on a laptop beside a pair of dumbbells.

What Coachful is, in one paragraph. Coachful is a coaching platform built for coaches who deliver programs, not just sessions: solo coaches growing into a small team, and coaches replacing four to six separate tools. One subscription covers booking, payments, agreements, program delivery with habits and check-ins, courses, a community, a website with funnels and email, and an AI assistant. The coach has one login; the client gets one app carrying the coach's branding inside the Coachful app. It does not sync with Garmin, Fitbit, Whoop or Oura, it ships no stock exercise videos, it is not HIPAA-certified, and it does not take PayPal. To start, take a free trial, then use the free white-glove build service to have your program, site or funnel set up for you.

What the workout builder covers

The workout builder comes with the Fitness & Nutrition pack, included in your Coachful membership. It works from an exercise library of illustrated exercises and handles the structures strength and conditioning coaches use every week: supersets, circuits, AMRAP, EMOM, intervals and tempo prescriptions. You attach your own demo videos to exercises, which matters more than it sounds: clients follow the coach whose cues they recognise.

Clients log each workout, and the app keeps their set history and personal records, so a client can see that their trap bar deadlift went up three times this block without asking you. Alongside training sit nutrition targets up to calories and macros, meal plans, recipes, food lookup and barcode scanning, private progress photos and measurements, and weekly check-ins. When a client wants technique feedback, they send a private form-check video and you leave timestamped comments on the exact rep. Challenges give a group something to chase together.

What happens between sessions

This is where Coachful separates from pure programming apps. Workouts live inside multi-week programs that also carry weekly goals, daily tasks, habits, morning and evening check-ins, goals with progress bars, and streaks. A client opening the app on a Tuesday sees today's session, their step habit, their protein target and a two-question evening check-in, not just a list of exercises.

On your side, every client record holds goals, check-ins, habits, notes, intake answers, tags, payments and sessions, and labels each client as thriving, active, quiet or at risk. That status is how you catch the client who has gone silent before the renewal fails. Michelle, the built-in AI assistant, works from that live data: she can brief you before a session, draft a program for you to review, summarise a recorded call or draft the week's emails. Questions and planning are included in the membership; confirmed builds and changes use AI credits.

Group programs are simple to run alongside one-to-one work. When clients enroll in a program, Coachful creates a cohort group for them automatically, with a community feed, group chat, direct messages and video events. Our group coaching software page shows that side in more detail.

This short walkthrough shows how a program is put together and delivered:

The business side, in the same login

Booking pages handle availability rules, buffers, minimum notice and time zones, with two-way Google, Apple/iCloud and Outlook calendar sync and built-in video or auto-created Zoom, Meet or Teams links. Reminders go by email, and by SMS and WhatsApp once messaging is enabled. Payments run through your own Stripe Connect or Razorpay account, with subscriptions, payment plans, coupons, order bumps, Apple Pay and Google Pay. Coachful takes a 0% platform fee, so you only pay Stripe or Razorpay processing. Coaching agreements with e-signature go out before the first call and are stored on the client record. The website builder, funnels, link-in-bio page, email lists and sequences round it out, so the sales page for your next cohort lives where the program does.

Where it falls short

Be clear about the gaps. There is no Garmin, Fitbit, Whoop or Oura sync, and Apple Health sync is not publicly available, so coaches who program from heart rate variability or daily wearable data will want HubFit or a separate app. There are no stock exercise videos; you film your own. The client app ships under the Coachful listing with your branding, not under your own App Store account. There is no PayPal, and Coachful is not built for clinical record-keeping or insurance billing.

Price

Plans are flat monthly prices; lower plans cap the number of clients, Pro is unlimited, and team plans add coach seats with per-coach availability and staff permissions (current plans: Lite: $29/month for up to 5 clients; Solo: $49/month for up to 20 clients; Pro: $99/month with unlimited clients; Studio: $199/month with unlimited clients). Monthly plans cancel in one click, and you can start with a free trial. Trustpilot showed 4.5 from 21 reviews in October 2026.

Why Coachful stands out: a free white-glove service. On every plan, you can go to Create > We'll build it for you · FREE and describe what you want built: a program, a website, a funnel, a sales page, a course outline, a check-in flow, an email sequence, a lead quiz and more. You can attach up to 8 reference links and up to 10 files such as your logo, photos, brand guide or an existing program spreadsheet. The Coachful team builds it inside your own account, usually within about 24 hours. Nothing is invented: no fake credentials, testimonials or prices, and any gaps are left for you to fill. It does not include filming your demo videos, logo design or ad management. One recent example: a menopause and midlife health coach starting from nothing got a five-page site in sage and cream with every button leading to a free 20-minute consultation. 2. ABC Trainerize: a mature training app with paid add-ons

ABC Trainerize is the long-standing default for personal trainers, and it earns the number two spot because the core training experience is mature and the entry tier costs nothing.

ABC Trainerize homepage in October 2026, showing its personal training app pitch
ABC Trainerize's homepage in October 2026.

Trainerize covers workouts, habits, nutrition tracking and messaging in a client app, priced by how many client seats you need. As listed in October 2026, Basic is $0 for 1 client, Grow is $10/mo for 2 clients, and Pro starts at $25/mo ($23/mo billed annually) for 5 clients, with further Pro tiers at 15, 30, 50, 75, 100 and 200 clients. Studio Plus starts at $275/mo for 500 or more clients and is aimed at businesses with five or more locations. The 30-day trial gives unlimited clients with no card, then drops back to the free 1-client plan rather than charging you.

The catch is the add-on model. Below Studio, scheduling, selling products, payments, video and advanced nutrition are separate paid add-ons, so the price on the tier card is not what a coach with booking and payments actually pays. There is no course builder, website, funnels or email marketing, so you still need tools for selling. An older profile also reports that the client data export is incomplete, leaving out messages, photos and attachments, which is worth checking before you commit years of client history. Trustpilot showed 3.1 from 100 reviews.

Pick it over Coachful if you only coach training, you want to pay nothing while you have a single client, and you already have a website, scheduler and payment setup you are happy with.

3. PT Distinction: every feature on every plan, priced by client count

For trainers who dislike add-on menus, PT Distinction is the most straightforward of the dedicated fitness apps: its pricing page says every feature is included on every plan, and you pay by client count.

PT Distinction pricing page with Basic, Pro and Master plans
PT Distinction's pricing page in October 2026.

The feature list is broad for a training tool: a program builder and AI program builder, nutrition coaching with an AI meal planner, assessments, group training, in-app messaging, scheduled email and SMS, automated workflows, on-demand coaching, habits, client exercise technique reviews, pre-made templates, website integration and the ability to sell packages and take payments.

As listed on its pricing page in October 2026, Basic is $19.90/mo with 3 clients included and each extra client at $6.00/mo; Pro is $59.90/mo with 25 clients and extra clients at $2.40/mo; Master is $89.90/mo with 50 clients and extra clients at $1.60/mo. Extra clients are free for their first month. Pro and Master include your own custom-branded iOS and Android apps; Basic uses unbranded apps. The 1-month free trial rolls into a paid subscription unless you cancel, so set a reminder.

The limits are on the coaching business around the training. Booking, contracts and courses are not on the published feature list, and the website side is an integration with a site you already own rather than a site builder. The per-client charges also mean the bill moves every month as your roster changes.

Pick it over Coachful if you want your own branded app store listing at a modest client count and you are content to keep booking, agreements and your website in other tools.

4. Everfit: the easiest place to start with five clients

Everfit is the cheapest way to start: its Starter plan is free for up to 5 clients, which makes it a reasonable sandbox while you build your first roster.

Everfit homepage in October 2026, showing its fitness coaching app pitch
Everfit's homepage in October 2026.

The product focuses on fitness coaching: workouts, habits, nutrition and messaging in a client app, priced by client count. As listed in October 2026, Starter is $0 for up to 5 clients. Pro starts at $19/mo ($16/mo annual) for 5 clients and scales: $29 for 10, $49 for 20, $95 for 50, $140 for 100 and $290 for 300 clients per month. Studio starts at $105/mo for 50 clients and reaches $430/mo for 500. The 30-day trial needs no card and no contract.

What to watch: automation (Everfit calls it Autoflow), payments and meal plans are paid add-ons, so the tier price is a floor. There is no course builder, website, funnels or email marketing. And because the price steps up with each client band, a coach who grows from 15 to 40 clients will see the bill roughly double. Trustpilot showed 2.7 from 16 reviews, too few to read much into.

Pick it over Coachful if you have five or fewer clients, coach training only, and want to stay at zero software cost while you test demand.

5. Practice Better: for nutrition-led practices that also assign movement

Practice Better is a practice management system for wellness and nutrition practitioners. It is here for coaches whose work is mainly food, lifestyle and accountability, with exercise assigned as part of a wider plan rather than written set by set.

Practice Better homepage in October 2026, showing its practice management platform pitch
Practice Better's homepage in October 2026.

It covers scheduling, telehealth, charting, billing, programs and a client portal, with payments processed through Stripe. As listed in October 2026, Sprout is $0 for 3 clients; Starter is $35/mo ($25/mo annual) for 10 clients; Professional is $69/mo ($59/mo annual) for 300 clients; Plus is $99/mo ($89/mo annual) for unlimited clients; Team is $155/mo for two practitioners. Paid plans carry a 14-day trial (30 days on Team).

For a training-focused coach, the gaps are real. Its published materials do not describe a dedicated workout builder with an exercise library, set logging or personal records, so lifters will feel the difference. Evergreen programs, portal branding, a custom URL and SMS start on Plus. There is no website builder or funnel pages, and only one practitioner per account below Team. Trustpilot showed 3.8 from 87 reviews.

Pick it over Coachful if your practice is nutrition and lifestyle first, you want charting and telehealth in one tool, and training is a small part of what you deliver.

6. HubFit: the pick for coaches who live on wearable data

HubFit's clearest advantage is wearable sync, which every plan includes. If your programming decisions depend on clients' sleep, steps or recovery data from their devices, that is the reason to look here.

HubFit homepage in October 2026, showing its online fitness coaching app pitch
HubFit's homepage in October 2026.

As listed on its pricing page in October 2026, Standard is $39/mo ($33/mo annual) for up to 50 clients and includes training programs, nutrition and macros, habit coaching, check-in forms, wearable sync, a resource vault and onboarding flows. Premium is $69/mo ($57/mo annual) for up to 100 clients and adds custom branding, group challenges, recipe books, a meal planner, payments and packages, meal and workout AI, and automated events. Ultimate starts at $119/mo for 100 clients and scales to $419/mo for 500. A white-label app under your own name in the app stores is a $189/mo add-on. Every plan starts with a 14-day free trial, and clients never pay.

The trade-offs: you need Premium before you can take payments or brand the app, so the realistic starting price for a paid practice is $69/mo. Booking, contracts, courses, a website and email marketing are not on the published plan list, so expect to run those elsewhere.

Pick it over Coachful if wearable data drives your programming and you need it inside the coaching app rather than in a separate dashboard.

7. TrueCoach: programming and logging, nothing more

TrueCoach does one job: it lets strength and fitness coaches write programs and see client logs. If that is the whole of what you need, its narrow focus keeps it simple.

TrueCoach homepage in October 2026, showing its strength coaching software pitch
TrueCoach's homepage in October 2026.

Pricing is by active-client cap, and the page in October 2026 showed annual-billed figures: Starter at $26.34/mo for up to 5 active clients, Standard at $57.99/mo for up to 20, and Pro at $136.99/mo for up to 50, with custom pricing above that. Monthly-billed prices were not shown. There is a 14-day trial with no card, and first-time annual subscribers get a 90-day money-back guarantee, with restrictions.

It ranks last on our criteria because so little of the client journey happens inside it. Booking is not on the pricing page feature list, and an older profile lists no video calls, contracts, courses, community or website. Automated payments run through Stripe, but the same older profile reports in-app payments only for coaches banking in the US, UK, Canada and Australia. Trustpilot showed 2.4 from 19 reviews.

Pick it over Coachful if you coach athletes in person, sell through a gym or team contract, and only want a clean place to publish programs and read logs.

How do the features compare?

Coachful is the only tool here that covers every column; the fitness apps match it on training and differ on everything around it. "Not listed" means the vendor's published plan pages did not mention the feature in October 2026.

The pattern is clear. If you choose a training-only app, budget for a scheduler, an e-signature tool, a website and an email platform as well. Our guides to scheduling software for coaches and e-signature software for coaches cover those add-ons if you go that way.

What does each tool cost at 5, 15 and 40 clients?

At small rosters the training apps can be cheaper on paper; the gap narrows or reverses once you add the booking, payments, website and email tools they leave out. The table shows the cheapest listed plan that covers each roster size, monthly billing unless noted, as listed in October 2026.

Two notes on reading this. First, the PT Distinction figure at 5 clients is our arithmetic from its listed per-client rate, and its extra clients are free for their first month. Second, the "still needed" column is where the real cost hides: a scheduler, an e-signature tool, a website builder and an email platform are each a separate monthly bill. Our coaching payment software and booking software pages show what Coachful includes in those categories.

How do you set up a strength program in Coachful, step by step?

Here is a worked example for the coach in our scenario: an eight-week group strength program sold alongside one-to-one coaching. You can build it yourself or hand the first draft to the white-glove team.

A tablet showing a client's coaching hub with the next session and a phone showing habit trackers, on a plyo box beside a resistance band

  1. Ask for the build. From Create, choose We'll build it for you and describe the program: eight weeks, three sessions a week, a monthly price or payment plan, and a sales page with an application form. Attach your existing spreadsheet and your logo. The team builds it in your account, usually within about 24 hours, leaving gaps where only you can fill them.
  2. Film your demos. Open the exercise library and attach your own short demo clip to each lift you use. Coachful has no stock exercise videos, and your own cues are better anyway.
  3. Write the training. Build Day A as a lower-body session with tempo squats and a superset of split squats and hamstring curls, Day B as upper body with an EMOM finisher, and Day C as conditioning intervals. Copy week one forward and adjust load or volume each week.
  4. Add the between-session layer. Attach a daily step habit, a protein target, a morning readiness check-in and a two-question evening check-in. Add a weekly check-in form with private progress photos and measurements.
  5. Set nutrition targets. Give each client calorie and macro targets, and share a meal plan or recipes if you coach food.
  6. Connect the offer. Price the program with your own Stripe Connect account: one-time, subscription or payment plan, with a coupon for returning clients. Attach a coaching agreement with e-signature so it is signed before the kickoff call. If you are unsure what to charge, start from your hourly rate times the coaching time you will spend per client over eight weeks, then test it with your next three sales conversations.
  7. Open the booking page. Create a kickoff call session type with intake questions, buffers and minimum notice. Clients pick a time in their own time zone, and reminders go out automatically.
  8. Launch the cohort. When clients enroll, Coachful creates their cohort group automatically. Schedule a weekly group Q&A call and post the week's focus in the community feed.
  9. Review weekly. Open the clients view, sort by status, and start with anyone marked quiet or at risk. Ask Michelle for a briefing before each one-to-one call.

What the client experiences. They find your sales page, apply, book a kickoff call and pay without leaving your branded pages. They sign the agreement before the call. On Monday morning they open your app and see today's lower-body session with your demo video on each lift, their step habit and a quick readiness check-in. They log their sets and see a new personal record on the squat. On Wednesday they send a form-check video and get your timestamped comment by the evening. On Sunday they answer the weekly check-in, upload a progress photo that only you can see, and read your note in the group feed. Everything sits in one app, under one login.

What mistakes should you avoid when choosing?

The most common mistake is choosing on the size of the exercise library and ignoring everything that happens around the workout. These are the others we see most often.

  • Pricing only the tier card. Add every add-on and every separate tool you will need for booking, payments, agreements, a website and email, then compare the monthly total.
  • Ignoring the client-count curve. Per-client bands look cheap at 5 clients. Model 15 and 40 before you commit, especially if you plan a group program.
  • Skipping screening. Software makes it easy to hand a new client a full program on day one. Run a readiness questionnaire first and refer out anything outside your scope. Our intake form guide covers what to ask.
  • Relying on stock videos. Clients learn faster from your own demos and cues. Plan a filming afternoon in your first week.
  • Forgetting the exit. Check what the export includes before you put years of client history into a tool. Coachful exports the full client data as a ZIP, including roster, notes, check-ins, goals, habits, sessions and form responses.
  • Buying for a wearable you do not use. Wearable sync matters only if you actually program from that data. If you do, weigh HubFit seriously.
  • Running the group in a separate tool. A cohort in a chat app and one-to-ones in a training app means two places to check every day. Keep them together.

Which workout builder should you pick?

Choose Coachful if your workouts are part of a program you sell, and you want training, nutrition, check-ins, booking, payments, agreements, a community and your website in one login with one branded app for clients. The free white-glove build takes most of the setup work off your hands.

Choose ABC Trainerize if you only coach training and want a free tier for your first client. Choose PT Distinction if you want every training feature on every plan and your own branded app. Choose Everfit to stay free while you have five or fewer clients. Choose Practice Better if your practice is nutrition-led. Choose HubFit if wearable data drives your programming. Choose TrueCoach if you only need to publish programs and read logs.

New to coaching altogether? Our guide to software for new coaches covers the first-year setup, and the comparison hub lines Coachful up against individual tools.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best workout builder software for coaches?

For coaches who sell programs, Coachful is our pick because the workout builder sits in the same login as check-ins, nutrition, booking, payments, agreements, community and your website. If you only need training and logging, ABC Trainerize and PT Distinction are strong dedicated apps. The right answer depends on how much of the client journey you want in one place.

Does Coachful include exercise videos?

Coachful's exercise library uses illustrated exercises, and you attach your own demo videos. There are no stock exercise videos. Most coaches find their own clips work better, because clients learn your cues.

Can I track macros and meal plans in the same app as workouts?

Yes. The Fitness & Nutrition pack, included in your Coachful membership, covers calorie and macro targets, meal plans, recipes, food lookup and barcode scanning next to the workout builder. Trainerize, Everfit, HubFit and PT Distinction also offer nutrition, though some put meal plans or advanced nutrition behind a higher tier or an add-on.

Does Coachful sync with Garmin, Fitbit or Apple Health?

No. Coachful has no Garmin, Fitbit, Whoop or Oura sync, and Apple Health sync is not publicly available. If wearable data drives your programming, HubFit lists wearable sync on every plan.

What is Coachful's free white-glove service?

On every plan, you can ask the Coachful team to build something for you from Create, such as a program, a website, a funnel, a sales page or an email sequence. You attach up to 8 links and 10 files, and they build it inside your account, usually within about 24 hours. They never invent credentials, testimonials or prices, and the service does not cover filming videos, logo design or ads.

Can clients send form-check videos?

Yes. In Coachful a client sends a private form-check video and you reply with timestamped comments on the exact moment. PT Distinction also lists client exercise technique reviews.

Is workout builder software HIPAA compliant?

Do not assume so. Coachful is not HIPAA-certified and does not sign a BAA, and it is not built for clinical records. Fitness coaching is not medical treatment, so if you work inside a clinic that handles protected health information, check the vendor's documentation and your practice's compliance requirements first.

How should I price an online training program?

Start from the coaching time you will spend per client across the program, multiply by the hourly rate you need, and add a margin for the between-session support you provide. Test the figure in your next few sales conversations and adjust. For tax or business-structure questions, check with an accountant.

Can I run group programs and one-to-one clients together?

Yes. In Coachful, enrolling clients in a program creates a cohort group automatically, with a feed, group chat and video events, while one-to-one clients keep their own programs and calls. Our coaching program software page shows both side by side.

Can I move my clients over from another app?

Yes. Clients, programs and content are imported for you during onboarding, and the white-glove team can rebuild a program from your existing spreadsheet. Before you leave your current tool, export everything it allows, since some apps leave out messages or photos.
