Circle vs Thinkific for Coaches: 2026 Pricing and Features

Circle vs Thinkific comes down to what you sell. Circle is a community platform that also hosts courses and events, so it suits coaches whose product is the group. Thinkific is a course platform that also runs communities, so it suits coaches whose product is a structured curriculum. Neither one books 1:1 sessions with a client record, tracks habits or runs daily check-ins, which matters if your coaching happens between sessions as much as in them.
This guide compares both on price, fees, courses, community, 1:1 coaching, apps and the client experience, using what each vendor lists on its own pages in October 2026 and what public reviewers report. We make Coachful, a coaching platform, so at the end we also cover it as a third option: where it beats both, and where Circle or Thinkific is the better call.

Circle vs Thinkific: what is the short answer?
Pick Circle if your offer is a paid membership or community where members talk to each other every day. Pick Thinkific if your offer is a self-paced or cohort course with quizzes, certificates and lots of students. Pick neither, on its own, if your offer is 1:1 or small-group coaching with sessions, check-ins and progress tracking.
Here is the short answer by use case:
- Paid community or mastermind with a few courses on the side: Circle. Its spaces, member directory, events and gamification are the core of the product.
- Signature course sold to hundreds or thousands of students: Thinkific. Start allows up to 10,000 current students and includes quizzes, certificates, bundles and payment plans.
- Cohort course with a live component: close call. Thinkific has live cohorts with Zoom; Circle has live streams and events built into the community.
- 1:1 coaching, programs with habits and check-ins, or a hybrid practice: neither fits well alone. You would add a scheduling tool, a contracts tool and a way to track client progress. That is where an all-in-one coaching platform such as Coachful comes in, covered in its own section below.

How do Circle and Thinkific compare side by side?
Circle leads on community depth and Thinkific leads on course depth; both are thin on 1:1 client work. The table below adds Coachful as the coaching-specific reference point.
Ranking criteria: one login for the whole client journey, between-session delivery, total stack cost for a coaching business, and setup effort (including the free white-glove build).
| Platform | Built around | 1:1 booking | Habits and check-ins | Courses | Community | Free trial |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Coachful | Coaching practice: sessions, programs, clients | Yes, with two-way calendar sync and reminders | Yes: habits, morning and evening check-ins, streaks | Yes: modules, lessons, drip, completion tracking | Yes: feed, group chat, DMs, cohort groups | Yes, a free trial |
| Circle | Community and memberships | No native 1:1 scheduling | No | Yes | Yes, the core product | 14 days, no card required |
| Thinkific | Courses and digital products | Coaching products, but 1:1 booking relied on external links when we profiled it | No | Yes, the core product | Yes: 1 community with 10 spaces on Start | 30 days on self-serve plans |
A few things the table cannot show. Circle's member experience is closer to a social network: a feed, spaces by topic, a directory, live rooms. Thinkific's student experience is closer to a classroom: a course player, progress through lessons, quizzes and a certificate at the end. Coaches tend to know which of those two feelings they want before they look at a price.

How much do Circle and Thinkific cost in 2026?
Circle starts at $89 a month on annual billing and Thinkific starts at $109 a month on monthly billing ($82 a month billed annually), as listed in October 2026. Circle also takes a platform fee on your sales; Thinkific does not if you use its own payments.
| Plan | Monthly billing | Annual billing (per month) | Platform fee on sales | Key limits |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Coachful | Lite: $29/month for up to 5 clients | Unlimited clients: Pro: $99/month with unlimited clients | 0% Coachful platform fee; Stripe or Razorpay processing only | Lower plans cap client numbers; Pro is unlimited; team plans add coach seats |
| Circle Professional | Not shown | $89 | 2% | 3 admins, 10 moderators, 2,500 AI credits a month |
| Circle Business | Not shown | $199 | 1% | 5 admins, 15 moderators, workflows |
| Circle Scale | Not shown | $419 | 1% | 10 admins, 100 moderators, 5,000 AI credits a month |
| Circle Plus | Custom | Custom | 0.5% | Unlimited admins, moderators and spaces; branded apps |
| Thinkific Start | $109 | $82 | 0% with Thinkific Payments | 10,000 current students, 2 admins, 1 community, 200 GB video bandwidth |
| Thinkific Grow | $219 | $164 | 0% with Thinkific Payments | 6 admins, 3 communities, 400 GB bandwidth |
| Thinkific Expand | $499 | $374 | 0% with Thinkific Payments | 15 admins, 10 communities, 1,000 GB bandwidth |
| Thinkific Plus | Custom | Custom | Custom contract | SSO, SCORM, HubSpot and Salesforce, custom roles |
Some context on those numbers:
- Circle only shows annual prices. Its pricing page in October 2026 lists annual billing only. When we profiled Circle in September 2026, the monthly-billed prices were $129 for Professional and $219 for Business.
- Thinkific raised prices this year. On August 13, 2026, Start went from $99 to $109 a month and Grow from $199 to $219, about a 10% increase. The older Basic plan is no longer on the public pricing page, and Expand is new. Thinkific's pricing page showed euros for our location, so the USD figures come from Thinkific's own AI information page, which it marks as confirmed in October 2026.
- Annual billing saves 25% on Thinkific. On Circle, annual is the only price you can compare.

What do the add-ons cost?
Circle publishes a long add-on list. As listed in October 2026: Email Hub costs $99 a month for 10,000 contacts (first 30 days free, included in Circle Plus), AI credits cost $10 per 1,000, extra admins are $10 a month each, extra moderators $20 a month per 10, extra spaces $20 a month per 10, extra live attendees $20 a month per 100 and extra live hours $50 a month per 10 hours. On Professional, branded email notifications are $40 a month and custom profile fields $49 a month. Branded mobile apps are only on custom-priced Circle Plus.
Thinkific's main add-on is its branded mobile app at $199 a month, included only on select Plus contracts. Third-party payment gateways (Stripe or PayPal connected directly) carry an extra per-plan gateway fee that the pricing page does not list in amounts.

A worked fee example
Here is an illustrative example, not a benchmark. Say a coach sells $6,000 a month in memberships and programs.
- On Circle Professional, the 2% platform fee is $120 a month on top of the $89 annual-rate subscription and Stripe processing. On Business, the fee drops to 1% ($60), but the plan costs $199.
- On Thinkific Start with Thinkific Payments, there is no Thinkific transaction fee. Thinkific describes its payment rate as in line with other processors at 2.9%, which on $6,000 is about $174 in processing, as with any card processor.
For this example, Circle's platform fee alone costs more than its Professional subscription. If your revenue grows, the gap between Circle Professional and Business narrows quickly. Our Thinkific pricing guide walks through the gateway fees in more detail.
What is missing from both price tags?
Neither price includes 1:1 scheduling, e-signature contracts or per-client progress tracking. A coach running private clients on either platform usually adds a booking tool, a contracts or invoicing tool, and often a separate email tool. That total stack is the real number to compare, and it is the main reason coaches look at an all-in-one alternative.
Which is better for courses: Circle or Thinkific?
Thinkific is the stronger course platform. Courses are its core product, and its plans include features Circle does not focus on, such as exams and question banks on Grow, certificates, and SCORM on Plus.
On Thinkific Start, as listed in October 2026, you get unlimited courses, digital downloads, coaching and webinar products, live cohorts with Zoom, quizzes, certificates, bundles, upsells, payment plans and memberships, plus a custom domain. Grow adds exams and question banks, B2B sales and invoicing, an API and webhooks, and engagement reports. If you plan to sell to companies, the B2B invoicing on Grow is a real advantage.
Circle includes courses on every plan alongside community, events and a website. Courses live inside the community as a space type, which works well when the course is a reason to join the group rather than the product itself. Coaches who sell a short program to members tend to be happy with this; coaches who need assessments and certificates tend to find it light.
One practical difference: Thinkific counts current students (10,000 on Start), while Circle's public plan limits list admins, moderators and AI credits rather than member counts. If you expect a large free audience in a course, check Thinkific's student cap; if you expect a large team running a community, check Circle's admin and moderator caps.
Which is better for community: Circle or Thinkific?
Circle is the stronger community platform. Community is its core product: spaces, a member directory, live events and streams, gamification, analytics, and on Business, workflows and activity scores.
Thinkific includes communities, but with tighter limits. Start allows 1 community with 10 spaces and 5 live community events. Grow raises that to 3 communities with 20 spaces; Expand to 10 communities with 200 spaces. Live group size is capped at 50 on Start and 100 on Grow.
Circle's limits sit elsewhere: live attendees and live hours are add-ons once you exceed your plan, at $20 a month per 100 attendees and $50 a month per 10 hours. For a mastermind with weekly calls and a busy feed, Circle's model is a better fit. For a course with a discussion area on the side, Thinkific's community is enough.
If community is the main event for you, our comparisons of Circle vs Mighty Networks and Circle vs Podia cover the closest community-first options.

Can either handle 1:1 coaching, booking and client management?
Not natively. Circle has no 1:1 scheduling or client management back office, and Thinkific sells coaching products but relied on external booking links for 1:1 sessions when we profiled it in September 2026.
That gap shows up in everyday tasks:
- Booking a session. On both, you send clients to a separate booking tool, then paste the video link and remind them yourself or through that tool.
- Signing an agreement. Neither documents e-signature coaching agreements. You add a contracts tool.
- Tracking a client's week. Neither has per-client habits, daily check-ins or private coaching plans. You can approximate with course lessons or a private space, but there is no record that shows whether a client is thriving or going quiet.
- Keeping session notes. Notes end up in a document or a separate CRM, away from the course progress and community activity.
For a coach with five private clients, the workaround is manageable. For a coach with thirty clients across a program, it means checking several systems before every call. Our list of Circle alternatives with 1:1 coaching and our Thinkific alternatives for coaches compare tools that close that gap.
Payments, fees and checkout: who takes a cut?
Circle takes 2% on Professional, 1% on Business and Scale, and 0.5% on Circle Plus, plus Stripe processing. Thinkific takes 0% when you use Thinkific Payments, but adds a gateway fee if you connect Stripe or PayPal directly.
Circle processes payments through Circle Payments, which runs on Stripe. Thinkific supports Thinkific Payments, Stripe and PayPal. If your clients expect PayPal, Thinkific is the only one of the two that lists it, with the gateway fee caveat.
Both support the checkout features coaches use most. Thinkific lists bundles, upsells and payment plans on Start, plus B2B invoicing on Grow. Circle includes paid memberships and payments on every plan. Neither documents invoicing per coaching session or session credits in the way a coaching tool does.
Mobile apps, branding and websites: how do they differ?
Circle includes iOS, Android and desktop apps on every plan, under Circle's brand; fully branded apps are on Circle Plus only. Thinkific's branded mobile app is a $199-a-month add-on, included only on select Plus contracts.
On branding inside the web experience:
- Circle removes Circle branding and adds white-labeling and branded email notifications on Business. On Professional, branded email notifications are a $40-a-month add-on.
- Thinkific removes Thinkific branding on Grow and adds email white-labeling and custom SSL on Expand.
Both include a custom domain. Circle includes a website on every plan; Thinkific includes a site builder for your course storefront. Neither is a general marketing site builder with funnels and email sequences at the level of a dedicated tool, though Circle's Email Hub add-on covers broadcasts to up to 10,000 contacts.
What does the client experience feel like on each?
On Circle, a client logs in to a feed: posts, spaces, events and courses sit side by side, and the experience rewards members who show up and talk. On Thinkific, a client logs in to a course: the next lesson, their progress and any quiz due, and the experience rewards members who work through content.
For coaching, the question is what happens between sessions. A client in a Circle community sees what the group is doing but not their own plan for the week. A Thinkific student sees what lesson comes next but not their habits, goals or the date of their next call with you. Both are good at one slice of the journey. Neither shows a client their whole coaching relationship in one place.
Public reviews point the same way. On Trustpilot, as seen on October 25, 2026, Circle holds 4.1 from 129 reviews and Thinkific 1.8 from 868 reviews. Review counts and scores reflect who chooses to post, so treat them as a signal to read the reviews yourself rather than as a verdict.
Which should you pick for which kind of coach?
Match the platform to the product you sell most, then check what you will have to add. Here is how that plays out for common coaching models.
| Coaching model | Best fit | Why | What you still add |
|---|---|---|---|
| Coachful: 1:1 and group programs with sessions, habits and check-ins | Coachful | Booking, contracts, payments, programs, courses and community under one login | Nothing for the core journey; Zapier for edge cases |
| Paid community or mastermind | Circle | Community is the core product, with events, directory and gamification | Booking, contracts, client tracking |
| Self-paced signature course at scale | Thinkific | Up to 10,000 students on Start, quizzes, certificates, payment plans | Booking for any 1:1 upsell |
| Corporate or B2B training | Thinkific Grow or Plus | B2B sales and invoicing, exams, SCORM and SSO on Plus | Session booking |
| Membership with a course library | Circle | Courses live inside spaces next to discussion | Email beyond Email Hub, client tracking |
If you are already on one and leaving, our guides on migrating from Circle and migrating from Thinkific cover exports. As we profiled them, Circle exports members and subscriptions as CSV but posts have no bulk export; Thinkific exports students and email lists as CSV, while course content is downloaded manually.
Is there a third option? Coachful, honestly
Yes. If you coach clients rather than only sell content, an all-in-one coaching platform can replace Circle or Thinkific plus the tools you bolt on. Coachful is that kind of platform, and it beats both for coaches who deliver programs; it does not beat them for a pure community business or a large course school.

What Coachful is. One subscription covers booking, payments, contracts, program delivery with habits and check-ins, courses, a community, a website with funnels and email, and an AI assistant. The coach has one login; the client has one branded app. It is built for coaches who deliver programs, not just sessions, for solo coaches growing into a small team, and for coaches replacing four to six tools.
Where Coachful beats Circle and Thinkific
- 1:1 booking is built in. Booking pages with availability rules, buffers, minimum notice and time-zone detection; two-way Google, Apple/iCloud and Outlook calendar sync; built-in video or auto-created Zoom, Meet or Teams links; email reminders, plus SMS and WhatsApp reminders once messaging is enabled; paid sessions and session credits.
- Between-session delivery. Multi-week programs with weekly goals, daily tasks, habits, morning and evening check-ins, goals with progress bars and streaks.
- A real client record. Goals, check-ins, habits, notes, intake answers, tags, payments and sessions in one place, with a status of thriving, active, quiet or at risk and an AI briefing per client.
- Contracts. Coaching agreements with e-signature sent before the first call and stored on the client record.
- No platform fee. Payments run through your own Stripe Connect or Razorpay account with 0% Coachful platform fee since August 2026, including subscriptions, payment plans, order bumps, coupons, Apple Pay and Google Pay.
Here is how scheduling works inside Coachful:

Courses and community are included in your Coachful membership too. Courses have modules, lessons, drip and completion tracking, and sit in the client's branded home next to their program. The community has a feed, group chat, direct messages and video events, and cohort groups are created automatically when someone enrolls in a program. See our pages on the course platform for coaches and group coaching software.

The client sees one place: their next session, pre-session work, program, habits, progress and documents, all in the coach's branding inside the Coachful app.

For the coach, the client dashboard shows who is doing the work and who is going quiet, which neither Circle nor Thinkific tracks per client. Michelle, the built-in AI assistant, works from that live practice data to brief you before sessions, draft emails and build programs; questions and planning are included in the membership, while confirmed builds and changes use AI credits.

Where Circle or Thinkific is the better choice
- Pick Circle over Coachful if your business is a large community where member-to-member interaction is the product, you want gamification and activity scores, or you need hundreds of moderators.
- Pick Thinkific over Coachful if you run a course school with thousands of students, need exams, question banks, certificates or SCORM, or sell training to companies with B2B invoicing.
- Pick either over Coachful if you need PayPal (Thinkific lists it) or your own App Store listing on a custom contract. Coachful's client app ships under the Coachful listing with your branding.
What Coachful does not do. It is not HIPAA-certified and is not for clinical records or insurance billing. It has no PayPal and no permanent free plan. It is not a course marketplace, has no third-party plugins, and has no Salesforce or HubSpot integration. Its affiliate program tracks links, clicks, conversions and revenue, but payouts are recorded manually.
Pricing. Coachful uses flat monthly plans: lower plans cap the number of clients, Pro is unlimited, and team plans add coach seats. Current plans: Lite: $29/month for up to 5 clients; Solo: $49/month for up to 20 clients; Pro: $99/month with unlimited clients; Studio: $199/month with unlimited clients. For a practice with about 15 clients, the starting point is Solo: $49/month for up to 20 clients. Monthly plans cancel in one click. For a direct comparison, see Coachful vs Circle and the Thinkific alternative page.
Why Coachful stands out: a free white-glove service. From Create, choose "We'll build it for you · FREE" and describe what you want: a website, funnel, sales page, program, course outline, email sequence, form or something else. Attach up to 8 reference links and up to 10 files such as logos, photos, brand guides and copy. The Coachful team builds it inside your own account, usually within about 24 hours. Nothing gets invented: no fake credentials, testimonials or prices, and gaps are left for you to fill. It does not include recording videos, logo design, ad management or ongoing marketing. Recent builds include a somatic coach leaving Kajabi who had the homepage and About page rebuilt and the contact form connected, and a business mentor for beauty professionals who got a 12-week mentorship sales page, a free start-up-guide funnel and rewritten follow-up emails. Read more about the free white-glove service.

How to start. Start a free trial, then request the white-glove build for whatever you want live first. During onboarding, your clients, programs and content are imported for you, so moving off Circle or Thinkific does not mean rebuilding by hand.
Frequently asked questions
Is Circle or Thinkific cheaper?
On the entry plans, Circle Professional is $89 a month billed annually and Thinkific Start is $82 a month billed annually, as listed in October 2026. Circle adds a 2% platform fee on Professional sales, while Thinkific charges no transaction fee with Thinkific Payments. For a coach with steady sales, Thinkific's entry plan usually costs less in total.
Can I run a community on Thinkific instead of Circle?
Yes, for a modest community. Thinkific Start includes 1 community with 10 spaces and 5 live community events, rising on Grow and Expand. If the community is your main product, Circle's spaces, directory, events and gamification go further.
Can I sell courses on Circle instead of Thinkific?
Yes. Circle includes courses on every plan as part of the community. Thinkific goes further on assessment, with quizzes and certificates on Start, exams and question banks on Grow, and SCORM on Plus.
Does either platform book 1:1 coaching sessions?
Circle has no native 1:1 scheduling. Thinkific sells coaching products but relied on external booking links for 1:1 sessions when we profiled it. Most coaches on either platform add a separate booking tool.
Which has a branded mobile app?
Circle's iOS and Android apps come with every plan under Circle's brand; branded apps are on custom-priced Circle Plus. Thinkific's branded app costs $199 a month as an add-on, included on select Plus contracts.
How long are the free trials?
Circle offers 14 days on Professional, Business and Scale with no credit card required. Thinkific offers 30 days on every self-serve plan; the card requirement is not stated on its page.
Do Circle and Thinkific take a cut of my sales?
Circle takes 2% on Professional, 1% on Business and Scale and 0.5% on Circle Plus, plus Stripe processing. Thinkific takes 0% with Thinkific Payments, with an extra gateway fee if you connect Stripe or PayPal directly.
What is Coachful's free white-glove service?
It is a build service included on every Coachful plan. You describe a website, funnel, program, course outline, email sequence or similar, attach links and files, and the team builds it inside your account, usually within about 24 hours. It does not cover recording videos, logo design or ad management.
Is Coachful a replacement for both Circle and Thinkific?
For coaches who deliver programs with sessions, habits and check-ins, yes: courses, community, booking, contracts and payments are all included in your Coachful membership. For a large community business or a course school needing SCORM or exams, Circle or Thinkific remains the better fit.
Can I move my members or students to Coachful?
Yes. Circle and Thinkific both export members or students as CSV, and during Coachful onboarding your clients, programs and content are imported for you. Course content on Thinkific is downloaded manually, so plan time for that step.
