Mailchimp vs Systeme io: Which Fits Coaches in 2026?

Mailchimp vs Systeme io comes down to one question: do you need a dedicated email tool or a cheap all-in-one marketing suite? Mailchimp is an email marketing platform with forms, landing pages and a basic website builder, and it is strongest at segmented newsletters and reporting. Systeme.io is a low-cost suite that bundles funnels, email, courses, a blog and an affiliate program, with a free plan that never expires. For most coaches selling a first offer, Systeme.io gives more for less money. For coaches whose business already runs elsewhere and who only need serious email, Mailchimp is the more mature email product.
Neither tool books sessions with client records, delivers a coaching program week by week or tracks a client's habits and check-ins. That gap is why this comparison ends with a third option, Coachful, and an honest account of when it beats both and when it does not. We make Coachful, so we have kept the vendor facts to what Mailchimp and Systeme.io publish on their own pricing and help pages, as listed in October 2026.
What is the short answer by use case?
Pick Mailchimp if email is the job and everything else already has a home; pick Systeme.io if you want funnels, email and a course in one cheap account. If your coaching is delivered over weeks, with sessions, payments and between-session work, both tools leave most of that to other software.
- You only need a newsletter and a few automated emails: Mailchimp Standard, or Systeme.io's Free or Startup plan if your list is small and your automations simple.
- You are launching a first offer with a lead magnet, sales page and checkout: Systeme.io. It covers funnels, email and payments through Stripe or PayPal with 0% transaction fees.
- You sell a self-paced course: Systeme.io, which hosts courses on every plan. Mailchimp has no course feature.
- You need advanced segmentation, A/B and multivariate testing or SMS: Mailchimp, from Standard upward.
- You run 1:1 or group coaching programs and want booking, contracts, payments, programs, check-ins and email in one place: neither. That is the case for a coaching platform such as Coachful, covered below.

How do Mailchimp and Systeme.io compare side by side?
Mailchimp is the deeper email tool, while Systeme.io covers more of the marketing funnel for less. The table below adds Coachful as a third column because coaches usually end up comparing all three.
Ranking criteria for coaches: one login for the whole client journey, between-session delivery, total stack cost and setup effort (including Coachful's free white-glove build).
| Tool | Best for | Email and automation | Funnels and website | Courses and community | Booking and client records | Entry price |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Coachful | Coaches delivering programs, solo or with a small team | Lists, broadcasts, multi-step sequences with triggers, delays, branching and A/B splits | Section-based website builder with blog and custom domain; booking, application, lead-magnet and checkout funnels | Courses with drip, community feed, group chat, cohort groups | Yes: booking pages, calendar sync, client record with goals, habits, check-ins and notes | Lite: $29/month for up to 5 clients |
| Systeme.io | Low-cost funnels, email and courses | Unlimited emails; automation rules (1 on Free, unlimited on Unlimited) | Funnels, blog, custom domain on every plan | Courses on every plan; basic community | No native 1:1 scheduling with client records (September 2026 profile) | Free; paid from $17/month |
| Mailchimp | Email marketing at scale | Automation flows from Essentials (4 steps) and Standard (up to 200 steps with branching) | Landing pages for all users; basic website on a mailchimpsites.com address | None | No coaching booking or client records; needs separate tools | Free up to 250 contacts; paid from $13/month |
What do Mailchimp and Systeme.io cost in 2026?
Systeme.io charges a flat monthly price by plan, from $0 to $97, while Mailchimp charges by contact tier, so its price rises as your list grows. At small list sizes they look similar; as the list grows, the gap widens in Systeme.io's favor.
| Plan | Monthly price | What you get | Main limits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Coachful | Solo: $49/month for up to 20 clients | Booking, payments, contracts, programs, courses, community, website, funnels, email and the AI assistant in one subscription | Lower plans cap the number of clients; Pro is unlimited (Pro: $99/month with unlimited clients) |
| Systeme.io Free | $0 | Funnels, email, a course, blog, affiliate program, custom domain; unlimited emails | 2,000 contacts, 3 funnels, 1 course, 500 students, 1 automation rule, 1 email campaign |
| Systeme.io Startup | $17 | Higher limits | 5,000 contacts, 10 funnels, 5 courses |
| Systeme.io Webinar | $47 | Evergreen webinars | 10,000 contacts, 50 funnels, 20 courses |
| Systeme.io Unlimited | $97 | No limits | Unlimited contacts, funnels, courses and automation rules |
| Mailchimp Free | $0 | Email campaigns, forms, landing pages, basic website | 250 contacts, 500 sends per month (250 per day), 1 seat, no automation flows, Mailchimp branding |
| Mailchimp Essentials | From $13 (0 to 500 contacts) | Automation flows, scheduling, A/B testing, branding removed | 4 steps per flow; sends = 10x contact limit; 3 seats |
| Mailchimp Standard | From $20 (0 to 500 contacts) | Up to 200 flows with 200 steps and branching, Intuit Assist AI, dynamic content, custom reports | Sends = 12x contact limit; 5 seats |
| Mailchimp Premium | From $350 (10,000 contacts) | Phone support, multivariate testing, onboarding specialist | Sends = 15x contact limit |
A few pricing details matter more than the headline numbers:
- Mailchimp counts a contact once per audience. A person on two audiences is billed twice, so coaches who keep separate lists for clients and prospects pay more than they expect.
- Mailchimp bills overages on paid plans when you pass your contact or send limit, and on Free, sending pauses.
- Mailchimp's annual pricing is not self-serve. Annual plans are offered only for Premium and Standard accounts with 10,000+ contacts, through sales.
- Systeme.io's annual billing is "2 months free", though the yearly totals are no longer printed on the page. The page shows "$" without naming the currency.
- Trials differ. Mailchimp offers 14 days on Essentials or Standard in select countries, with payment details required. Systeme.io's free plan has no time limit and asks for no credit card.
Prices above Mailchimp's base contact tier are calculated live on its pricing page, so check the slider with your real list size before you commit. Our Systeme.io pricing breakdown goes through each Systeme.io plan in more depth.

Which is better for email marketing and automation?
Mailchimp is the stronger email tool, especially on Standard and above. Systeme.io's email is simpler, but it sends unlimited emails on every plan, so a growing list does not push the price up.
Mailchimp's email strengths
Mailchimp has spent years on the newsletter itself. Paid plans add email scheduling, A/B testing and all pre-built templates. Standard adds branching automation flows (renamed from Customer Journey Builder in June 2025), dynamic content, predictive segmentation, custom reports, custom-coded templates and generative AI through Intuit Assist at no extra cost. Premium adds multivariate testing. There is an SMS and MMS add-on in select countries after an approved application, and a Transactional Email add-on for Standard and Premium.
The catch for coaches is the plan ladder. The Free plan has no automation flows at all, and Essentials caps each flow at 4 steps. A typical coaching nurture sequence (welcome, story, case for the offer, invitation, follow-up, last call) is already longer than that, so in practice a coach who wants automation lands on Standard.
Systeme.io's email strengths
Systeme.io bundles email with the funnel that collects the address. A lead magnet opt-in can tag a contact, start a sequence and lead to a checkout without a separate integration. The free plan lists unlimited emails, but only 1 automation rule and 1 email campaign, so it is a trial of the workflow more than a long-term home. Startup and Webinar raise contact and funnel limits; Unlimited removes the cap on automation rules.
What Systeme.io does not offer is Mailchimp's reporting depth: no predictive segmentation, multivariate testing or SMS listed on its plans. For a solo coach sending a weekly email and a handful of sequences, that rarely matters.
Email rules apply whichever tool you choose
Both tools help you collect consent, but the rules are yours to follow. In the US, the FTC's CAN-SPAM compliance guide covers sender identification and unsubscribe requirements; in Europe, the GDPR sets the consent and data-handling rules. Requirements vary by country, so check with an attorney if you email clients internationally.
Which handles funnels, landing pages and websites better?
Systeme.io is a funnel builder first, so it wins here. Mailchimp offers landing pages and a simple website, but no multi-step sales funnels with checkout.
Systeme.io includes funnels on every plan (3 on Free, 10 on Startup, 50 on Webinar, unlimited on Unlimited), a blog and a custom domain even on the free plan. The Webinar plan adds evergreen webinars, which suits coaches who sell from a recorded masterclass. Note the funnel caps: an older version of the pricing page listed unlimited funnels on Startup, and it now shows 10.
Mailchimp says landing pages are "free to all Mailchimp users" and can use your own domain. Its website builder is free on a mailchimpsites.com address; a custom domain needs a paid Websites plan whose price is not shown on the current pricing page. That is fine for a one-page signup site, but it is not where you would build a sales funnel with an order bump and a payment step.

Can either one sell courses, run a community or take payments?
Systeme.io can do all three at a basic level; Mailchimp does none of them for coaching. If you sell programs or courses, this section usually decides the Mailchimp vs Systeme io question on its own.
- Courses: Systeme.io hosts 1 course with up to 500 students on Free, 5 courses on Startup and 20 on Webinar. Mailchimp has no course feature.
- Community: Systeme.io offers a community, which our September 2026 profile rated as basic. Mailchimp has none.
- Payments: Systeme.io takes payments through Stripe and PayPal with 0% transaction fees on every plan, including Free. Mailchimp's marketing pricing page does not cover selling or checkout for coaching offers.
- Affiliates: Systeme.io includes an affiliate program, 1 on the free plan.
If courses are central to your offer, compare Systeme.io and Kajabi or read our guide to the online course platform for coaches.
Can either one book sessions or manage clients?
No. Neither Mailchimp nor Systeme.io is built to book coaching sessions against client records, send a contract before the first call or track a client's progress between sessions.
Mailchimp's own positioning is email marketing; booking, client records, programs and payments for coaching have to come from separate tools connected through its 300+ integrations. Systeme.io, per our September 2026 profile, has no native 1:1 scheduling with client records, habits or check-ins, and no branded mobile app for clients.
So the real comparison for a working coach is rarely "Mailchimp or Systeme.io". It is "Mailchimp or Systeme.io, plus a scheduler, plus a contract tool, plus somewhere to deliver the program, plus a way to check in with clients". The next table shows what each setup needs.
| Setup | Booking | Contracts | Program delivery and check-ins | Separate logins for the client | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Coachful | Included in your Coachful membership | Included, with Google, Apple and Outlook sync | E-signature agreements before the first call | Programs, habits, morning and evening check-ins, branded client app | One |
| Systeme.io stack | Systeme.io | Separate scheduler | Separate e-signature tool | Course area only; check-ins via forms or another tool | Two to four |
| Mailchimp stack | Mailchimp | Separate scheduler | Separate e-signature tool | Separate course or coaching platform | Three to five |
Every extra tool adds a subscription, a login and a place where client information can drift out of sync.
What does the client experience look like?
With Mailchimp, your client sees emails and maybe a landing page. With Systeme.io, they see emails, a funnel, a checkout and a course area. With either one, the rest of the client journey happens elsewhere.
Think through what a client does in a 12-week program: books an intake call, signs an agreement, pays, gets a welcome, attends sessions, does homework, reports how the week went and gets reminders. In a Mailchimp setup, a client might receive a booking confirmation from one tool, an e-signature request from another, a receipt from a third and a newsletter from Mailchimp. In a Systeme.io setup, the course area and checkout sit together, which is better, but sessions and check-ins still live outside.
That fragmentation is the main reason coaches move on from both tools once they have a few paying clients. It is also why we compared them against a coaching platform at all.
How do support, reviews and leaving later compare?
Public reviewers rate Systeme.io far higher than Mailchimp, and both let you export contacts, though only Mailchimp exports a full account archive.
- Reviews: Systeme.io holds 4.9 on Trustpilot from 8,696 reviews; Mailchimp holds 2.5 from 1,555 reviews (both seen October 2026).
- Support: Mailchimp Free includes email support for the first 30 days only; Essentials and Standard add 24/7 email and chat; Premium adds phone and priority support.
- Exporting from Mailchimp: an account export as a ZIP file once every 24 hours, with audiences as CSV files, campaigns, reports, templates and more. Billing statements and deleted audiences are not included.
- Exporting from Systeme.io: contacts export to CSV through an emailed link valid for 3 days; per our September 2026 profile, courses and pages are not bulk-exportable.
If you build your funnels and courses in Systeme.io, plan on rebuilding them if you ever move. Our Systeme.io review covers the day-to-day pros and cons in more detail.
Which should you pick for which kind of coach?
Match the tool to how you deliver coaching, not just how you market it. The table below is a starting point.
| Coach | Best pick | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Coachful: coaches running 1:1 or group programs | Coachful | Booking, contracts, payments, programs, check-ins, courses, community and email in one login; free white-glove build to get set up |
| New coach testing a lead magnet on a near-zero budget | Systeme.io Free | 2,000 contacts, funnels, a course and a custom domain with no card |
| Course creator selling self-paced programs | Systeme.io Startup or Webinar | Courses, funnels and evergreen webinars with 0% transaction fees |
| Coach with a large newsletter and an existing website and booking tool | Mailchimp Standard | Branching flows, segmentation, reporting and testing |
| Coach who relies on SMS marketing | Mailchimp | SMS and MMS add-on in select countries |
| Coach who needs PayPal checkout | Systeme.io | Supports Stripe and PayPal |

The third option: when does Coachful beat both, and when does it not?
Coachful beats both when your income comes from coaching clients over time rather than from a list alone. It loses when you only need email, need PayPal or want a plan that costs nothing forever.

What Coachful is
Coachful is a coaching platform. One subscription covers booking, payments, contracts, program delivery with habits and check-ins, courses, a community, a website with funnels and email, and an AI assistant. The coach has one login and the client has one branded app. It is built for coaches who deliver programs rather than just sessions, solo coaches growing into a small team, and coaches replacing four to six tools. The company is based in Tallinn, Estonia, and holds 4.5 on Trustpilot from 21 reviews.
Where Coachful beats Mailchimp
Coachful's email covers lists, broadcasts and multi-step sequences with triggers, delays, branching and A/B splits, and those emails go to the same people whose sessions, payments and check-ins live in the same account. You can send a broadcast to everyone enrolled in a program without exporting a list from one tool and importing it into another. Our guide on sending client broadcasts without Mailchimp shows how that works in practice. Here is a short walkthrough of Coachful's email tools:

Where Coachful beats Systeme.io
Coachful matches the funnel-and-website side: a section-based website builder with a blog, custom domain, SEO settings and 30 designed homepage templates, plus booking, application, lead-magnet and checkout funnels with pixels and UTM tracking, and a link-in-bio page that sells.

Where it pulls ahead is everything after the sale:
- Booking: booking pages with availability rules, buffers, minimum notice and time-zone detection; two-way Google, Apple/iCloud and Outlook sync; built-in video or auto-created Zoom, Meet and Teams links; email reminders plus SMS and WhatsApp once messaging is enabled; intake questions on booking.
- Agreements: coaching agreements with e-signature sent before the first call and stored on the client record.
- Payments: through your own Stripe Connect or Razorpay account, with one-time payments, subscriptions, payment plans, order bumps, coupons and refunds, and a 0% Coachful platform fee since August 2026. See coaching payment software.
- Programs: multi-week programs with weekly goals, daily tasks, habits, morning and evening check-ins, goals with progress bars and streaks.
- Client record: goals, check-ins, habits, notes, intake answers, tags, payments and sessions, with a status of thriving, active, quiet or at risk and an AI briefing per client.
- Groups: a community feed, group chat, direct messages and video events, with cohort groups created automatically on program enrollment. See group coaching software.
- Instagram automations: a comment with a keyword can trigger a DM with your booking link, lead magnet or checkout, and the person lands in the same lead and client records.

Coachful also includes Michelle, an AI assistant that works from your live practice data: it builds programs, drafts emails and content, summarizes recorded sessions and briefs you before sessions. Questions and planning are included in your Coachful membership; confirmed builds and changes use AI credits.
When Coachful does not beat them
- You only need email. If your coaching runs fine elsewhere and you just want a newsletter, Mailchimp or Systeme.io is the simpler purchase, and Mailchimp has deeper reporting, multivariate testing and SMS marketing.
- You need PayPal. Coachful does not support PayPal; Systeme.io does.
- You want a permanent no-cost plan. Coachful has a free trial but no permanent no-cost tier. Systeme.io and Mailchimp both have one.
- You run a full affiliate program with automatic payouts. Coachful tracks affiliate links, clicks, conversions and revenue, but payouts are recorded manually.
- You need HIPAA compliance. Coachful is not HIPAA-certified and offers no BAA, so it is not for clinical records or insurance billing.
- You want a course marketplace or a general website for a non-coaching business. Coachful is neither.
Why Coachful stands out
Why Coachful stands out: a free white-glove service. On every plan, you can open Create > We'll build it for you, describe what you want (a website, funnel, sales page, program, course outline, email sequence, form, lead quiz, automation and more), attach up to 8 reference links and up to 10 files, and the Coachful team builds it inside your own account, usually within about 24 hours. Nothing gets invented: no fake credentials, testimonials or prices; gaps are left for you to fill. One recent example: a business mentor for beauty professionals got a 12-week mentorship sales page, a free start-up-guide funnel and rewritten follow-up emails. Another: a leadership coach with a Squarespace renewal days away got one clean homepage with a repeated "talk with me" button. It does not include recording videos, logo design, ad management or ongoing marketing. Read more about the free white-glove service.

How to start with Coachful
- Start a free trial and pick a plan by how many clients you coach (current plans: Lite: $29/month for up to 5 clients; Solo: $49/month for up to 20 clients; Pro: $99/month with unlimited clients; Studio: $199/month with unlimited clients).
- Ask the team to import your clients, programs and content during onboarding, or request a white-glove build for your website or first funnel.
- Connect Stripe or Razorpay and your calendar, then publish your booking page.
- Move your email list in and set up your welcome sequence.

Frequently asked questions
Is Systeme.io cheaper than Mailchimp?
Usually, yes. Systeme.io's paid plans are flat at $17, $47 and $97 a month with unlimited emails, while Mailchimp's price rises with your contact tier, starting at $13 for Essentials and $20 for Standard at 500 contacts. As your list grows, Systeme.io's flat pricing tends to work out cheaper.
Is Mailchimp's free plan enough for a coach?
Only for a very small list. It allows 250 contacts and 500 sends a month, keeps Mailchimp branding and includes no automation flows, so you cannot run a welcome sequence. Systeme.io's free plan allows 2,000 contacts but only 1 automation rule and 1 email campaign.
Can I use Mailchimp and Systeme.io together?
You can, but most coaches do not need to. Systeme.io already sends email, so adding Mailchimp means paying for two contact lists and keeping them in sync. It only makes sense if you need Mailchimp's advanced segmentation or SMS on top of Systeme.io's funnels.
Which has better email automation?
Mailchimp Standard, with up to 200 flows of up to 200 steps and branching, is the more advanced builder. Mailchimp Essentials caps flows at 4 steps, though, and Systeme.io limits automation rules on Free. For typical coaching sequences, Systeme.io's paid plans or Coachful's sequences with branching and A/B splits are enough.
Does either tool handle session booking?
Not for coaching with client records. Mailchimp relies on integrations for booking, and Systeme.io has no native 1:1 scheduling with client records. Coachful includes booking pages with calendar sync, reminders and paid sessions.
Can I take PayPal payments?
Systeme.io supports Stripe and PayPal with 0% transaction fees. Coachful uses your own Stripe Connect or Razorpay account and does not support PayPal. Mailchimp's marketing plans do not cover coaching checkout.
Is Coachful's white-glove service really free?
Yes. The white-glove build service is free on every plan. You describe what you want built and attach references, and the team builds it inside your account, usually within about 24 hours. It does not include video recording, logo design, ads or ongoing marketing.
Can I move my Mailchimp or Systeme.io list to Coachful?
Yes. Both tools export contacts to CSV, and Coachful imports your clients, programs and content for you during onboarding. Systeme.io courses and pages are not bulk-exportable, so those are rebuilt rather than copied, which the white-glove service can help with.
Is Coachful HIPAA-compliant?
No. Coachful is not HIPAA-certified and does not sign a BAA, so clinical records and insurance billing belong in a clinical system. It is GDPR-ready and lets you export all client data as a ZIP.
Which should I choose if I am just starting out?
If you only need a lead magnet and a list, Systeme.io's free plan is the lowest-risk start. If you are already signing clients and want booking, payments, programs and email in one place from day one, a free trial of Coachful with a white-glove build of your site is the faster route.
