PT Distinction vs TrueCoach (2026): Pricing, Features, Verdict

The short answer on pt distinction vs truecoach: PT Distinction is the better value for most online personal trainers who want nutrition coaching, automations, group training and a branded app on one bill, while TrueCoach is the simpler, cleaner programming tool for strength coaches who mainly write workouts and message clients. Both stop at the training floor. Neither ships the booking, contracts, courses, community and website that a full coaching business runs on, which is why this comparison ends with a third option.
We make Coachful, a coaching platform that includes a fitness and nutrition pack, so we have a stake in this. Everything below about PT Distinction and TrueCoach comes from what each vendor publishes on its own pricing and features pages, as listed in October 2026, plus what public reviewers report. We have not run either product with paying clients, and we say so where it matters.
If you are still deciding whether you need training software at all or a wider platform, our guides to coaching software and fitness and nutrition coaching cover the ground before a head-to-head.
Which should you pick: PT Distinction or TrueCoach?
Pick PT Distinction if you want the most included features per dollar and plan to coach nutrition and run groups; pick TrueCoach if you want a focused workout builder with a large exercise video library and you rarely need more than messaging. Here is the short answer by use case.
- Solo trainer, under 5 clients, testing online coaching: PT Distinction Basic is cheaper per month and includes every feature, but its app is PT Distinction-branded. TrueCoach Starter covers up to 5 active clients with 3,000+ exercise videos.
- Trainer with 10 to 25 online clients who wants a branded app: PT Distinction Pro includes 25 clients and your own branded iOS and Android apps. TrueCoach needs Standard for a branded app, and Standard stops at 20 clients.
- Strength or performance coach who lives in the program builder: TrueCoach is built around programming and the client workout view, with fewer extras to learn.
- Nutrition-heavy coaching: PT Distinction lists an AI meal planner, recipes, photo food diary, MyFitnessPal integration and nutrition templates. TrueCoach lists MyFitnessPal nutrition and habit tracking, with advanced tracking on Standard.
- Coach who also sells sessions, courses or a group program and needs a website: neither tool covers that whole journey. Coachful does, with a fitness and nutrition pack included in your Coachful membership.
How do PT Distinction and TrueCoach compare side by side?
They solve the same core job, writing and delivering training programs remotely, but PT Distinction bundles more around it while TrueCoach keeps the product narrow.
Ranked on one login for the whole client journey, between-session delivery, total stack cost and setup effort (including a free white-glove build):
| Platform | Best for | Starting price | Branded client app | Booking and video calls | Courses, community, website | Trustpilot (Oct 2026) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Coachful | Coaches who run programs, sessions and sales from one place | Lite: $29/month for up to 5 clients | Your branding inside the Coachful app, on every plan | Yes: booking pages, calendar sync, built-in video or Zoom, Meet, Teams links | Yes: courses, community feed, website builder, funnels, email | 4.5 from 21 reviews |
| PT Distinction | Online personal trainers who want nutrition, groups and automations included | $19.90/mo (Basic, 3 clients) | Pro and Master (from $59.90/mo) | Not listed as a booking tool; schedules training items on a client calendar | Groups with group chat; no course builder or website builder shown | 4.8 from 297 reviews |
| TrueCoach | Strength coaches focused on programming and messaging | $26.34/mo (Starter, 5 clients, displayed rate) | Standard and Pro (from $57.99/mo displayed) | No scheduling on the pricing page; no video calls (older profile) | None listed | 2.4 from 19 reviews |
The two ratings need context. PT Distinction's 297 Trustpilot reviews are a meaningful sample. TrueCoach's 19 reviews are a small base, so treat its 2.4 as a signal to read the reviews yourself rather than a verdict.

How much do PT Distinction and TrueCoach cost?
PT Distinction starts at $19.90 a month for 3 clients and tops out at $89.90 for 50 clients plus cheap overage; TrueCoach displays $26.34 to $136.99 a month for 5 to 50 active clients, at what appear to be annual-billing rates. Both price by client count, so the right comparison is the bill at your client number, not the headline plan.
PT Distinction plans, as listed in October 2026
PT Distinction bills monthly in USD and shows no annual discount. Every plan includes the full feature list, including the AI Program Builder, AI Assistant, nutrition coaching, scheduled email and SMS, automated workflows and package sales. What changes between plans is the number of included clients, the overage price and whether the app carries your brand.

TrueCoach plans, as listed in October 2026
TrueCoach's pricing page shows $26.34, $57.99 and $136.99 a month with "1-2 months free" badges. Those figures match the annual-billing rates in our September 2026 profile. The billed-monthly prices are no longer visible on the page; in September 2026 they were $29.98, $69.98 and $164.98. Plans are capped by active clients, and above 50 clients you contact sales. Our full TrueCoach pricing breakdown covers the guarantee terms in detail.

| Plan | Monthly price | Clients included | Extra clients | What the tier adds |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Coachful (all plans) | Lite: $29/month for up to 5 clients; Solo: $49/month for up to 20 clients; Pro: $99/month with unlimited clients; Studio: $199/month with unlimited clients | Lower plans cap clients; Pro is unlimited | Move up a plan; no per-client overage | Team plans add coach seats |
| PT Distinction Basic | $19.90 | 3 | $6.00/mo each after 1 free month | Full feature list, PT Distinction-branded apps |
| PT Distinction Pro | $59.90 | 25 | $2.40/mo each | Your own branded iOS and Android apps, website integration |
| PT Distinction Master | $89.90 | 50 | $1.60/mo each | Same as Pro with more clients |
| TrueCoach Starter | $26.34 (displayed) | Up to 5 active | Upgrade required | Program builder, 3,000+ exercise videos, MyFitnessPal tracking, messaging, automated payments |
| TrueCoach Standard | $57.99 (displayed) | Up to 20 active | Upgrade required | Public profile, wearables, custom-branded app, advanced habit and nutrition tracking, Zapier |
| TrueCoach Pro | $136.99 (displayed) | Up to 50 active | Contact sales above 50 | Same features as Standard |
What will you actually pay at your client count?
The table below takes each vendor's cheapest plan that covers the client number. These are worked examples from published prices, before payment processing fees and taxes.
| Platform | 3 clients | 10 clients | 25 clients | 50 clients |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Coachful | Lite: $29/month for up to 5 clients | Solo: $49/month for up to 20 clients | Pro: $99/month with unlimited clients | Pro: $99/month with unlimited clients |
| PT Distinction | $19.90 (Basic) | $59.90 (Pro; Basic would be $61.90) | $59.90 (Pro) | $89.90 (Master) |
| TrueCoach (displayed rates) | $26.34 (Starter) | $57.99 (Standard) | $136.99 (Pro) | $136.99 (Pro) |
Three things stand out. First, PT Distinction's Basic overage of $6 per extra client means that at 10 clients the Pro plan is already slightly cheaper than Basic, and it adds your branded app. Second, TrueCoach is a little cheaper at exactly 10 clients, but the moment you pass 20 active clients you jump to $136.99, more than double PT Distinction's price at 25. Third, the TrueCoach figures assume annual billing; if you pay monthly, our September 2026 profile put them at $29.98, $69.98 and $164.98.
The bill at your client count is only part of the stack cost. If you also pay for a scheduler, an e-signature tool, a course host and a website, add those subscriptions before you compare against an all-in-one platform. Our Calendly pricing guide shows what a standalone booking tool adds on its own.
Trials and refunds
PT Distinction offers a one-month free trial and says you can cancel at any time in your first month and pay nothing; the pricing page does not say whether a card is needed. TrueCoach offers a 14-day free trial with no credit card, plus a 90-day money-back guarantee for first-time annual subscribers, with restrictions that apply.
Which has the better program builder?
Both handle serious programming; PT Distinction lists more structures and scheduling controls, while TrueCoach keeps workout writing in a narrower product with fewer menus.
PT Distinction's features page lists circuits, supersets, giant sets and complex rep schemes, multiple workouts on one page, a workout progressions calculator, reusable templates, pre-made program templates, movement screens and posture assessments, and an AI Program Builder that it says creates a custom program in about 20 seconds for you to edit. Training items can be scheduled on specific days or repeated daily, weekly or monthly, and you can let clients move items in their calendar.
TrueCoach's pricing page lists a program and workout builder, a client tracker and a client dashboard on every plan. Its product is narrower by design: you build the program, the client sees today's workout, logs it and messages you. For a coach who writes strength blocks and wants as few menus as possible, that narrowness is the appeal. Our TrueCoach review goes deeper on the builder.
Exercise libraries
TrueCoach lists 3,000+ exercise videos on every plan. PT Distinction says it has "thousands of exercise videos" and lets you swap in your own or add any public YouTube or Vimeo video. If a pre-filmed library matters to you, both have one; if you prefer your own demos, both let you add them.
How do nutrition and habit coaching compare?
PT Distinction goes further on nutrition. It lists nutrition coaching tools, an AI meal planner, recipes, a photo food diary, MyFitnessPal integration with macro and calorie summaries, example meal plans and nutrition templates written by degree-qualified nutritionists, plus habit coaching and tracking.
TrueCoach lists MyFitnessPal nutrition and habit tracking on Starter, with advanced habit and nutrition tracking from Standard. In practice that means TrueCoach reads the client's food log rather than giving you a meal-planning workspace.
A scope note applies to all three tools in this article. Fitness and nutrition coaching is not medical care or medical nutrition therapy. PT Distinction itself notes that writing specific meal plans is outside a trainer's scope of practice in many places. Refer clients to a doctor or registered dietitian before or during coaching when they report chest pain, dizziness or fainting during exercise, a diagnosed heart, kidney or metabolic condition, pregnancy complications, signs of disordered eating, unexplained weight loss, or an injury that has not been assessed. Keep clinical records in a clinical system; none of these platforms should be your medical record.
Which is better for automations, groups and communication?
PT Distinction, clearly. It lists automated workflows, pre-scheduled email, SMS and app messages, email sent from your own address, group messaging, and PTD Groups for challenges, trials and group training with individual edits.
TrueCoach lists messaging on every plan and Zapier on Standard and Pro, which lets you connect other tools for automation. It does not list group programs, a community or scheduled broadcasts on its pricing page. If you run a 6-week challenge for 30 people, PT Distinction is built for it and TrueCoach is not. For a wider look at running cohorts, see our guide to group coaching software.
How do payments and wearables compare?
PT Distinction sells packages and takes one-off and recurring payments, with PayPal listed on its features page and an option to add clients who paid through any merchant. TrueCoach takes automated payments through Stripe, and our older profile notes that in-app payments are limited to coaches in the US, UK, Canada and Australia. Stripe's processing fees apply; TrueCoach's FAQ says it adds no extra fees.
On wearables, TrueCoach lists wearables from Standard. PT Distinction lists an Apple Watch app that shows exercise, steps, sleep, heart rate and calories alongside progress. If wearable data drives your coaching, check the exact devices each vendor supports during the trial.
What is the client experience like on each?
Both give clients a mobile app and a web view; the difference is mainly whose name is on the app and how much else lives inside it.
On PT Distinction, Basic clients use the PT Distinction-branded iOS and Android apps. From Pro, you get your own custom-branded apps, plus a web client portal on a web address you can customize and an option to host the client login on your own website. Clients can film their technique during a session and send it to you for review, track habits, log food by photo and get notifications for every scheduled item.
On TrueCoach, clients see a dashboard with today's workout, log sets, watch exercise videos and message their coach. The custom-branded app starts on Standard. What clients will not find inside TrueCoach, per our older profile, is a way to book a call, sign an agreement, take a course or join a community. Those happen in other tools, each with its own login.
That second login is the hidden cost of both tools. A client who books on one site, pays on another, signs a PDF by email and trains in an app has four places to get lost.
Which should you pick for which kind of coach?
Match the tool to how your week actually runs, not to the longest feature list.
- Pick PT Distinction if you are an online personal trainer with 10 to 50 clients, you coach nutrition alongside training, you run challenges or group programs, and you want a branded app at a low price per client. At 25 to 50 clients it is the cheaper of the two by a wide margin.
- Pick TrueCoach if you are a strength, sport or performance coach, you mostly write programs and message clients, you want a large exercise video library from day one, and you stay at 20 clients or fewer. Its 14-day trial needs no card, which makes it easy to test.
- Pick neither on its own if you sell 1:1 sessions with booking, onboard clients with a signed agreement, run courses or a community, or need a website and funnels. Both tools would become one piece of a five-tool stack.
If you are weighing more than these two, we have also compared Everfit vs PT Distinction, Everfit vs TrueCoach and Trainerize vs TrueCoach, and listed the best TrueCoach alternatives.
Is there a third option that beats both?
Yes, for coaches whose business is more than workouts. Coachful puts training delivery, booking, payments, contracts, courses, community, a website and email behind one login for you and one branded app for your clients.

What Coachful is and who it is for
Coachful is a coaching platform built for coaches who deliver programs, not just sessions: solo coaches growing into a small team, and coaches replacing four to six tools. Its Fitness and Nutrition pack covers the training side this article is about. You get a workout builder with an illustrated exercise library and supersets, circuits, AMRAP, EMOM, intervals and tempo; client workout logging with set history and PRs; nutrition targets up to calories and macros; meal plans, recipes, food lookup and barcode scanning; private progress photos and measurements; weekly check-ins; private form-check video with timestamped coach comments; and challenges. See the full pack on the fitness and nutrition page or the page for fitness coaches.
Around that, Coachful runs multi-week programs with weekly goals, daily tasks, habits, morning and evening check-ins, goals with progress bars and streaks. Here is a walkthrough of how programs are built:

Where Coachful beats both
- Booking and sessions. Booking pages with availability rules, buffers, minimum notice and time-zone detection; two-way Google, Apple/iCloud and Outlook sync; built-in video or auto-created Zoom, Meet and Teams links; email reminders plus SMS and WhatsApp reminders once messaging is enabled; paid sessions and session credits. Neither PT Distinction nor TrueCoach lists a client booking page. More on our scheduling software page.
- Payments on your own account. Payments run through your own Stripe Connect or Razorpay account: one-time, subscriptions, payment plans, order bumps, coupons, refunds, Apple Pay and Google Pay, and Stripe Tax, with an invoice per transaction. Coachful charges a 0% platform fee; you pay only Stripe or Razorpay processing.
- Agreements before the first call. Coaching agreements with e-signature go out before the first session and are stored on the client record. See coaching contracts.
- Courses, community and groups. Courses with modules, lessons, drip and completion tracking; a community feed, group chat, direct messages and video events; cohort groups created automatically when someone enrolls in a program. See the course platform for coaches.
- Website, funnels and email. A section-based website builder with a blog, custom domain and 30 designed homepage templates; booking, application, lead-magnet and checkout funnels with pixels and UTM tracking; email lists, broadcasts and multi-step sequences. See the coach website builder.
- A clear client record and an AI assistant. Each client record holds goals, check-ins, habits, notes, intake answers, payments and sessions, with a status of thriving, active, quiet or at risk. Michelle, the built-in AI assistant, works from your live practice data: it builds programs, drafts emails and briefs you before sessions. Questions and planning are included in your Coachful membership; confirmed builds and changes use AI credits.
- Your data, exportable. A full client data export as a ZIP covers roster, notes, check-ins, goals, habits, sessions and form responses. Neither PT Distinction nor TrueCoach documents a coach-side export on the pages we checked.

Where PT Distinction or TrueCoach beats Coachful
Be honest about the gaps before you switch.
- Stock exercise videos. Coachful's exercise library is illustrated; it has no stock exercise videos, so you attach your own demo videos. TrueCoach's 3,000+ videos and PT Distinction's library are ready on day one.
- Wearables and food-log apps. Coachful has no Garmin, Fitbit, Whoop or Oura sync, and Apple Health sync is not publicly available. TrueCoach lists wearables from Standard and both competitors list MyFitnessPal integration. If wearable data is central, that matters.
- Your own App Store listing. PT Distinction Pro and TrueCoach Standard offer custom-branded apps. Coachful's client app carries your branding inside the Coachful app, under the Coachful listing, not your own App Store account.
- PayPal. PT Distinction lists PayPal; Coachful has no PayPal.
- A pure training tool at the lowest price. If all you need is to write workouts for three clients, PT Distinction Basic is a small monthly bill and nothing else is required.
- Clinical work. Coachful is not HIPAA-certified and does not sign a BAA, so it is not for clinical records or insurance billing.

The free white-glove build
Why Coachful stands out: a free white-glove service. On every plan, you can open Create > We'll build it for you, describe what you need (a website, a funnel, a sales page, a program, a course outline, an email sequence, a form or an automation) and attach up to 8 reference links and up to 10 files such as your logo, photos and existing copy. The Coachful team builds it inside your own account, usually within about 24 hours. Nothing is invented: no fake credentials, testimonials or prices, and gaps are left for you to fill. It does not include recording videos, logo design, ad management or ongoing marketing. One recent build: a menopause and midlife health coach starting from nothing got a five-page site in sage and cream with every button leading to a free 20-minute consultation. Read more about the free white-glove service.

What Coachful does not do
Coachful does not take PayPal, and every plan is a paid subscription after the trial. It does not sync Garmin, Fitbit, Whoop or Oura, ships no stock exercise videos, has no Salesforce or HubSpot integration and no multi-stage sales deal board for large teams, and it is not a course marketplace or a general website builder for non-coaching sites.
How to start
Start a free trial, then request a white-glove build so your programs, clients and content are in place before you invite anyone. Clients, programs and content are imported for you during onboarding. Plans are flat monthly, lower plans cap the number of clients, Pro is unlimited (Pro: $99/month with unlimited clients), and monthly plans cancel in one click. You can compare all plans on the plans page or see more head-to-heads on our compare page.

How should you test before you commit?
Run one real week of your coaching through each trial rather than clicking through demo screens.
- Write down your current client count and where you expect it in six months, then price each tool at both numbers using the cost table above.
- Build one real program you already use, with your own progressions and demo videos.
- Invite one friendly client or a second email address and complete a full week as the client: log workouts, track a habit, send a check-in.
- List every tool you still need outside the platform for booking, payments, agreements, courses and your website, and add their monthly cost.
- Check how you would export your client data if you leave.
The tool that wins on that list, not on the feature table, is the one to keep. For personal trainers, the gap usually shows up in step 4.
PT Distinction vs TrueCoach: frequently asked questions
Is PT Distinction cheaper than TrueCoach?
At most client counts, yes. As listed in October 2026, PT Distinction costs $19.90 for 3 clients, $59.90 for up to 25 and $89.90 for up to 50, while TrueCoach displays $26.34 for 5, $57.99 for 20 and $136.99 for 50. TrueCoach is slightly cheaper only around 10 to 20 clients, and only at its displayed annual-billing rates.
Which has the better branded app?
PT Distinction gives you your own custom-branded iOS and Android apps from Pro at $59.90 a month, with 25 clients included. TrueCoach offers a custom-branded app from Standard at a displayed $57.99, capped at 20 active clients. On Basic and Starter, clients use each vendor's own branded app.
Does TrueCoach have scheduling or video calls?
TrueCoach's pricing page does not list client scheduling or booking, and our September 2026 profile found no video calls, contracts, courses, community or website. Coaches typically pair it with a separate booking tool and video service.
Does PT Distinction take PayPal?
PT Distinction's features page lists one-off and recurring payments through a PayPal integration, and says you can use any merchant and add clients manually. Check current processor options on the trial, as the pricing page itself does not state them.
Which is better for nutrition coaching?
PT Distinction lists more nutrition tools: an AI meal planner, recipes, a photo food diary, MyFitnessPal integration and nutrition templates. TrueCoach focuses on reading the client's MyFitnessPal log. Either way, nutrition coaching is not medical nutrition therapy, so refer clients with medical conditions or signs of disordered eating to a doctor or registered dietitian.
Why is TrueCoach's Trustpilot rating so low?
TrueCoach showed 2.4 from 19 reviews on Trustpilot in October 2026, against PT Distinction's 4.8 from 297. Nineteen reviews is a small sample, so read the individual reviews and run the free trial rather than relying on the score alone.
Can Coachful replace PT Distinction or TrueCoach?
For many trainers, yes: Coachful's Fitness and Nutrition pack covers workouts, logging, nutrition targets, meal plans, progress photos, check-ins and form-check video, alongside booking, payments, contracts, courses, community and a website. It is not the right fit if you need stock exercise videos, wearable sync, PayPal or your own App Store listing.
What is Coachful's free white-glove service?
On every plan, you can ask the Coachful team to build a website, funnel, program, course outline, email sequence, form or automation inside your account, usually within about 24 hours. You describe what you want and attach up to 8 links and 10 files; nothing is invented, and gaps are left for you. It does not cover video recording, logo design, ads or ongoing marketing.
Can I move my clients from TrueCoach or PT Distinction to Coachful?
Clients, programs and content are imported for you during Coachful onboarding. Neither TrueCoach nor PT Distinction documents a coach-side data export on the pages we checked, so ask their support what you can take with you before you cancel.
Is either tool HIPAA-compliant?
Neither PT Distinction nor TrueCoach advertises HIPAA compliance on the pages we checked, and Coachful is not HIPAA-certified and does not sign a BAA. If you handle clinical health records, keep them in a clinical system built for that purpose.
