Mailchimp vs MailerLite for Coaches: Which to Pick in 2026

For most coaches, the honest answer to mailchimp vs mailerlite is MailerLite. As listed in October 2026, its entry paid plan is cheaper ($12 against $13 a month at 500 subscribers) and includes far more automation, its free plan sends five times as many emails and includes automations, and it adds booking and digital product sales with 0% commission. Mailchimp wins only if you need its deeper reporting, predictive segmentation or its large integration catalog. Both are email tools, though, and neither runs your coaching itself: no client app, no programs, no check-ins. So this guide also covers a third option for coaches who would rather not stitch five tools together.
We make Coachful, a coaching platform that includes email, so read our recommendation with that in mind. We have kept the Mailchimp and MailerLite facts to what each company publishes on its own pricing and help pages, plus what public reviewers report. We have not run hands-on tests of either tool.

What is the short answer, by use case?
Pick by what you actually need email to do. If email is only for a newsletter and a welcome sequence, MailerLite covers it for less. If email is one part of running clients, a tool built for coaching saves more money and time than either.
- You coach clients through programs and want one login: Coachful. Email lists, broadcasts and multi-step sequences are included in your Coachful membership, next to booking, payments, contracts, programs, check-ins and a branded client app.
- You only need a newsletter and a small free list: MailerLite Free. Up to 250 active subscribers, 2,500 emails a month and 3 automations, with no time limit.
- You want a low-cost paid email tool with booking and simple digital sales: MailerLite Comfort, from $12 a month at 500 subscribers.
- You need advanced reporting, predictive segments and many integrations: Mailchimp Standard, from $20 a month at 500 contacts.
- You run a large team with SSO and phone support needs: Mailchimp Premium, from $350 a month at 10,000 contacts.
If you are still choosing your broader stack, our guides to Mailchimp alternatives for coaches and MailerLite alternatives for coaches go wider than this head-to-head.
How do Mailchimp and MailerLite compare side by side?
On paper they look alike: both sell email campaigns, automations, forms, landing pages and a basic website. The differences show up in the limits, the price curve and what sits around the email.
How we ranked them for coaches: one login for the whole client journey, delivery between sessions, total stack cost, and setup effort (including a free white-glove build).
| Tool | Best for | Starting paid price | Free plan | Booking built in | Client app or portal |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Coachful | Coaches running programs, sessions and email from one place | Lite: $29/month for up to 5 clients | A free trial; no permanent free plan | Yes, with calendar sync, reminders and paid sessions | Yes, the coach's branding inside the Coachful app |
| MailerLite | Low-cost newsletters, automations, simple sales | $12/month (Comfort, 500 subscribers) | 250 subscribers, 2,500 emails/month | Yes, 1:1 and group, free or paid via Stripe | No |
| Mailchimp | Reporting, segmentation, integrations | $13/month (Essentials, 500 contacts) | 250 contacts, 500 sends/month | No (connect a separate tool) | No |
Two quick readings of that table. First, the free plans are not equal: MailerLite allows 2,500 emails a month and 3 automations, while Mailchimp Free allows 500 sends and no automation flows at all. Second, neither email tool gives your clients a place to log in, see their program or check in. That gap is why many coaches end up paying for a scheduler, a course host and a client portal on top.
What does Mailchimp offer coaches?
Mailchimp is a mature email marketing platform with newsletters, signup and popup forms, landing pages, automation flows and a basic website builder. Its strengths are analytics, segmentation and a catalog of more than 300 integrations.

As listed in October 2026, Mailchimp's automation tool is called automation flows (it was renamed from Customer Journey Builder in June 2025). The catch for coaches is the step cap. Essentials allows only 4 steps per flow, which is enough for a short welcome series but not for a real nurture sequence that waits, checks behavior and branches. For that you need Standard, which allows up to 200 flows with up to 200 steps each and branching.
Standard also adds generative AI writing help (Intuit Assist) at no extra cost, branded templates, dynamic content, custom reports, predictive segmentation and custom-coded templates. Landing pages are free to all Mailchimp users and can use your own domain. The website builder is free on a mailchimpsites.com address; a custom domain on the website needs a paid Websites plan, whose price the current pricing page does not show.
What Mailchimp does not do matters just as much for a coach. It does not handle session booking, client records, coaching programs or payments for coaching. Each of those has to come from another tool connected through integrations.
Public reviewer sentiment: Mailchimp holds a Trustpilot score of 2.5 from 1,555 reviews, as seen in October 2026. Trustpilot skews toward people with a complaint, so treat it as a signal to read recent reviews, not a verdict.
What does MailerLite offer coaches?
MailerLite is an email marketing tool with a website, landing page and signup form builder, aimed at creators, solopreneurs and small businesses. For coaches, its standout is that it bundles booking and digital product sales into the same account.

MailerLite's built-in Bookings handle 1:1 and group sessions, free or paid through Stripe, with Google Calendar and Outlook or Microsoft 365 sync. Answers to booking questions are saved to the subscriber profile, which is handy for basic intake. On the Free plan you get one active event type, and that slot is shared with the digital product limit, so a free account can have either one booking type or one product live, not both.
It also sells digital downloads, paid newsletters and recurring subscriptions with 0% MailerLite commission; only Stripe's processing fee applies. Paid newsletters and recurring subscriptions need Comfort or Power. Video courses are not hosted: MailerLite's own page says video courses would typically be hosted elsewhere and linked.
There is no client portal, client app, coaching program, habit tracking or check-in feature. Client communication runs through email, forms, surveys and quizzes.
One date to know: MailerLite renamed and repriced its plans on June 16, 2026. Growing Business became Comfort and Advanced became Power, with new prices and limits. Older reviews quoting $10 or $20 a month, or the old plan names, are out of date.
Public reviewer sentiment: MailerLite holds a Trustpilot score of 4.1 from 3,391 reviews, as seen in October 2026.
How much do Mailchimp and MailerLite cost?
At the entry level MailerLite is slightly cheaper, and it gives more for the money higher up. At 500 contacts, MailerLite Comfort costs $12 a month against Mailchimp Essentials at $13, while MailerLite Power costs $25 against Mailchimp Standard at $20. The real difference is what each price includes, and how prices climb as the list grows.

| Plan | Monthly price at entry tier | Annual billing | Emails per month | Automations | Seats |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Coachful | Lite: $29/month for up to 5 clients; Solo: $49/month for up to 20 clients; Pro: $99/month with unlimited clients; Studio: $199/month with unlimited clients | Flat monthly plans; monthly plans cancel in one click | Broadcasts and sequences included in your Coachful membership | Multi-step sequences with triggers, delays, branching and A/B splits | Team plans add coach seats |
| MailerLite Free | $0 (250 subscribers) | n/a | 2,500 | 3 active, 5 steps each | 2 |
| MailerLite Comfort | $12 (500 subscribers) | $10.80/month, about $129.60/year | 10x tier ceiling (5,000 at 500) | 50 active, 100 steps each | 3 |
| MailerLite Power | $25 (500 subscribers) | $22.50/month, about $270/year | Unlimited, fair use | Unlimited, multiple triggers | Unlimited |
| Mailchimp Free | $0 (250 contacts) | n/a | 500 (250/day) | None | 1 |
| Mailchimp Essentials | $13 (500 contacts) | No self-serve annual price | 10x contacts (5,000 at 500) | Flows up to 4 steps | 3 |
| Mailchimp Standard | $20 (500 contacts) | Annual via sales at 10,000+ contacts | 12x contacts (6,000 at 500) | Up to 200 flows, 200 steps, branching | 5 |
| Mailchimp Premium | $350 (10,000 contacts) | Annual via sales | 15x contacts (150,000 at 10,000) | As Standard, plus multivariate testing | Unlimited |

MailerLite publishes its price curve, so you can plan ahead. On monthly billing, as listed in October 2026:
| List size | Coachful | MailerLite Comfort | MailerLite Power | Mailchimp |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Coachful (email list size does not set the plan) | Plans are set by active clients: Solo: $49/month for up to 20 clients | n/a | n/a | n/a |
| 500 | n/a | $12 | $25 | Essentials $13, Standard $20 |
| 1,000 | n/a | $19 | $39 | Rises by contact tier; not published as a fixed figure |
| 2,500 | n/a | $33 | $49 | Rises by contact tier |
| 5,000 | n/a | $49 | $69 | Rises by contact tier |
| 10,000 | n/a | $89 | $129 | Premium starts at $350 |
Mailchimp's prices above the 500-contact base tier are calculated by the page's contact selector, and we did not capture those figures, so check the selector with your own list size. Three pricing details catch people out:
- Mailchimp counts a contact once per audience. If the same client sits in two audiences, you pay for them twice. Keep one audience and use tags.
- Both bill you up when you grow. MailerLite moves paid accounts that exceed their tier up automatically and charges them. Mailchimp bills overages on paid plans when you pass contact or send limits.
- Free plans stop sending at the limit. MailerLite locks campaigns and automations above 250 active subscribers on Free. Mailchimp says sending will be paused if the contact or send limit is exceeded.
Trials and discounts differ too. MailerLite gives every new account 14 days of premium features, and afterward premium features switch off but nothing is deleted. Mailchimp offers 14 days on Essentials or Standard for new customers in select countries, with payment details required at enrollment. Nonprofits get 30% off at MailerLite and 15% off at Mailchimp.
What does a typical coach's email stack cost in total?
Here is an illustrative example, not a quote. A coach with 1,000 subscribers on MailerLite Comfort pays $19 a month for email. Add a scheduler (our Calendly pricing guide covers that cost), a place to host video courses, an e-signature tool and a client portal, and the email bill becomes the smallest line in the stack. On Mailchimp the same coach also needs booking, because Mailchimp does not include it. That total stack cost is where a coaching platform changes the maths.
How do the automations compare?
MailerLite gives you more automation for less money. Mailchimp's Free plan has no automation flows and Essentials caps flows at 4 steps, while MailerLite Free already includes 3 automations with 5 steps each and Comfort allows 50 with 100 steps each.
For a coach, a useful nurture sequence looks something like this: someone downloads a lead magnet, gets it immediately, receives a story email two days later, a case for working together on day five, and an invitation to book a call on day seven, with a branch for people who already booked. That is six to eight steps with a condition. On MailerLite, Comfort handles it. On Mailchimp, you need Standard. Power on MailerLite adds multiple triggers per automation, which matters when the same sequence should start from a form, a purchase or a tag.
Mailchimp's advantage is analysis rather than building. Standard adds predictive segmentation, custom reports and dynamic content, and Premium adds multivariate testing. MailerLite matches some of this: Comfort includes dynamic content, multivariate testing, auto-resend and custom report exports.
How do forms, landing pages and websites compare?
Both include forms, landing pages and a simple website, and MailerLite is more generous on the free tier. MailerLite Free gives 1 website and 1 landing page with 3 active signup forms; Comfort raises that to 10 websites and landing pages with custom domains and removes the MailerLite logo.
Mailchimp landing pages are free to all users and can sit on your own domain. Its website builder is free on a mailchimpsites.com address, and a custom domain for the site requires a paid Websites plan. Mailchimp branding stays on emails and forms on its Free plan; Essentials removes it.
Neither is built around coaching offers. You can make a page with a booking button, but the booking, the payment, the intake and the welcome email live in different places unless you wire them together.
How do booking and payments compare?
MailerLite includes both; Mailchimp includes neither for coaching. That single difference settles the question for many solo coaches.
MailerLite Bookings supports 1:1 and group sessions, free or paid via Stripe, with Google and Outlook calendar sync and booking questions saved to the subscriber. Digital products, paid newsletters and recurring subscriptions run through Stripe with 0% MailerLite commission. What it does not document is the rest of the coaching flow: contracts before the first call, session credits, payment plans for a program, or a client record that holds notes and goals.
Mailchimp's marketing plans do not handle coaching payments. Its separate store and website commerce pricing now redirects to the marketing page, so any store transaction fees could not be confirmed. Booking means a separate tool, connected through an integration. Our scheduling software and coaching payment software pages show how a coaching platform handles both in one place.
What do your clients actually experience?
With either email tool, your clients experience you as an inbox. They get your newsletter, a booking confirmation, maybe a Stripe receipt and a link to a course hosted somewhere else. Each of those comes from a different system with a different login.
That is fine for marketing. It is weak for delivery. Coaching results tend to come from what happens between sessions: the weekly goal, the daily task, the check-in, the habit streak, the note from the last call. Neither Mailchimp nor MailerLite has a place for any of that. MailerLite's forms, surveys and quizzes can collect answers, but the client cannot see their own progress, and you cannot see a client slipping until they stop replying.
A coaching platform flips that. The client opens one branded app and sees their next session, their program week, their habits and the pre-session work you asked for.

That is also where email becomes more useful: a broadcast to a cohort, or a sequence that starts when someone enrolls in a program, lands alongside the program itself rather than in a separate silo.
Which should you pick, by type of coach?
Match the tool to how you deliver, not just how you market. Here is how we would choose for common situations.
| Your situation | Our pick | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Coachful: you run programs, 1:1 or groups and want one login | Coachful | Email, booking, payments, contracts, programs, check-ins and a branded client app in one membership |
| New coach, list under 250, newsletter only | MailerLite Free | More sends and includes automations, no time limit |
| Solo coach selling a few digital products and sessions | MailerLite Comfort | Bookings and Stripe sales with 0% MailerLite commission |
| Coach with a marketer who lives in reports | Mailchimp Standard | Predictive segmentation, custom reports, 300+ integrations |
| Large organization needing SSO and phone support | Mailchimp Premium | Enterprise SSO, phone and priority support, onboarding specialist |
| Fitness or nutrition coach delivering plans | Coachful with the Fitness & Nutrition pack | Workouts, logging, nutrition targets and weekly check-ins; neither email tool delivers plans |
If you are a new coach, start where your clients will live, not where your list will live. Moving a 200-person list later takes an afternoon; moving 20 active clients mid-program is painful.
Health and fitness coaches: coaching is not medical treatment. If a client reports symptoms, a diagnosed condition, disordered eating or medication changes, refer them to a doctor or licensed clinician. Coachful is not HIPAA-certified and does not sign a BAA, and neither email tool is built for health records, so clinical records belong in a clinical system.
What is the third option, and when does Coachful beat both?
Coachful beats both when email is only one of the jobs you are paying tools to do. It loses when all you need is a cheap newsletter.

What Coachful is. Coachful is a coaching platform. One subscription covers booking, payments, contracts, program delivery with habits and check-ins, courses, a community, a website with funnels and email, and an AI assistant, with one login for the coach and one branded app for the client. It is built for coaches who deliver programs, not just sessions, for solo coaches growing into a small team, and for coaches replacing four to six tools. The company is based in Tallinn, Estonia, and holds a Trustpilot score of 4.5 from 21 reviews.
How does Coachful handle email?
Coachful includes email lists, broadcasts and multi-step sequences with triggers, delays, branching and A/B splits. Because the email sits inside the same system as your clients, a sequence can start from a booking, a funnel or a program, and the people it reaches are the same records you coach. For a step-by-step on sending to clients, see how to send client broadcasts without Mailchimp.

Here is a short walkthrough of the email area:
Automations go beyond email. Coachful can send booking reminders by email, plus SMS 24 hours before and WhatsApp 1 hour before once messaging is enabled. It can also run Instagram automations: someone comments a keyword on your post, gets your booking link, lead magnet or checkout in a DM, and lands in the same lead and client records.

What else replaces the extra tools?
- Booking: booking pages with availability rules, buffers, minimum notice and time-zone detection; two-way Google, Apple/iCloud and Outlook sync; built-in video or auto-created Zoom, Meet or Teams links; paid sessions and session credits; intake questions on booking.
- Payments: your own Stripe Connect or Razorpay account for one-time payments, subscriptions, payment plans, order bumps, coupons and refunds, with Apple Pay, Google Pay and Stripe Tax. Coachful takes a 0% platform fee (since August 2026); only Stripe or Razorpay processing applies.
- Contracts: coaching agreements with e-signature, sent before the first call and stored on the client record.
- Programs and courses: multi-week programs with weekly goals, daily tasks, habits, morning and evening check-ins and streaks; courses with modules, lessons, drip and completion tracking.
- Website and funnels: a section-based website builder with blog, custom domain, SEO settings and 30 designed homepage templates; booking, application, lead-magnet and checkout funnels with pixels and UTM tracking.
- AI help: Michelle, the built-in AI assistant, works from live practice data to draft emails, build programs, summarize recorded sessions and brief you before calls. Questions and planning are included in the membership; confirmed builds and changes use AI credits.

On the coach side, the dashboard shows each client's task completion and status (thriving, active, quiet or at risk), so you see who needs a nudge before they disappear.

Why Coachful stands out: a free white-glove service.
Why Coachful stands out: a free white-glove service. From Create, choose "We'll build it for you · FREE", describe what you want, and attach up to 8 reference links and up to 10 files such as logos, photos, brand guides or copy. The Coachful team builds it inside your own account, usually within about 24 hours: a website, funnel, sales page, program, course outline, email sequence or newsletter, form, link in bio, lead quiz or automation. Nothing gets invented, so there are no fake credentials, testimonials or prices; gaps are left for you to fill. It does not include recording videos, logo design, ad management or ongoing marketing.

Recent anonymized examples: a menopause and midlife health coach starting from nothing got a five-page site in sage and cream with every button leading to a free 20-minute consultation. A business mentor for beauty professionals got a 12-week mentorship sales page, a free start-up-guide funnel and rewritten follow-up emails. A leadership coach with a Squarespace renewal days away got one clean homepage with a repeated "talk with me" button. For coaches leaving Mailchimp or MailerLite, the follow-up email sequence is often the first thing worth handing over. Read more about the free white-glove service.

When does Coachful not beat Mailchimp or MailerLite?
Be honest about the fit before you switch:
- You only need a newsletter. Both email tools have no-cost plans for small lists, while Coachful is a paid membership after the trial. If you do not have clients to deliver to yet, a free email tool is the cheaper start.
- You sell to a large audience, not coach individuals. Coachful plans are set by the number of clients you coach, and it is built for coaching, not as a general marketing suite for a big e-commerce list.
- You need specific integrations. Mailchimp lists 300+ integrations and MailerLite 100+. Coachful connects Google Calendar, Apple Calendar, Outlook, Zoom, Google Meet, Teams, Stripe, Razorpay, Zapier, Meta Pixel and GA4, and has no Salesforce or HubSpot integration and no third-party plugins.
- You need PayPal checkout. Coachful does not support PayPal.
- You need clinical records. Coachful is not HIPAA-certified and is not for clinical record-keeping or insurance billing.
Pick MailerLite over Coachful if you want the cheapest capable newsletter with light booking and digital downloads, and you deliver your coaching elsewhere. Pick Mailchimp over Coachful if your business depends on deep email reporting, predictive segments or an integration only Mailchimp offers.
How do you start with Coachful?
Start a free trial, then request a white-glove build from Create so your site, funnel or first email sequence is ready while you set up booking and payments. Clients, programs and content are imported for you during onboarding. Current plans: Lite: $29/month for up to 5 clients; Solo: $49/month for up to 20 clients; Pro: $99/month with unlimited clients; Studio: $199/month with unlimited clients. If you coach without a cap on clients, the unlimited plan is Pro: $99/month with unlimited clients. Compare it with other tools on our comparison page or see the full coaching software overview.
How hard is it to move between them?
Moving a list is easy in all three directions; moving history is harder. Both email tools export subscribers as CSV, but neither exports everything.
- Mailchimp: an account export arrives as a ZIP file, one per 24 hours, with audiences as CSV files split by status (subscribed, unsubscribed, cleaned), a campaigns CSV with HTML and text content, reports, templates and more. Billing statements and deleted audiences are not included.
- MailerLite: subscribers export as CSV or "CSV for Excel" from the Subscribers page, by admins only. Only visible columns are exported, and subscriber notes cannot be exported. Groups, segments and reports export separately as CSV.
- Coachful: a full client data export as a ZIP covers roster, notes, check-ins, goals, habits, sessions and form responses, plus course export.
Whichever way you move, export your unsubscribed and cleaned contacts too, and keep them suppressed. Sending to people who opted out breaks rules such as the US CAN-SPAM Act; the FTC's CAN-SPAM compliance guide spells out the requirements. If you have European subscribers, the General Data Protection Regulation also governs consent and data handling. MailerLite notes that its data is stored in the EU, and Coachful is GDPR-ready. Rules vary by country, so check with an attorney if you are unsure.
Frequently asked questions
Is MailerLite better than Mailchimp for coaches?
For most solo coaches, yes. As listed in October 2026, MailerLite's entry paid plan is cheaper and allows far longer automations, its free plan includes automations and 2,500 emails a month, and it adds booking and digital sales with 0% MailerLite commission. Mailchimp is the better pick only if you need its reporting depth or a specific integration.
Which free plan is better, Mailchimp or MailerLite?
MailerLite's. Both cap you at 250 subscribers, but MailerLite Free sends 2,500 emails a month with 3 automations and 2 seats, while Mailchimp Free sends 500 a month (250 a day), has 1 seat and no automation flows.
Does Mailchimp have booking for coaching sessions?
Not for coaching sessions in its marketing plans. Mailchimp does not handle session booking, client records or payments for coaching, so you connect a separate scheduler. MailerLite includes Bookings for 1:1 and group sessions, free or paid via Stripe.
Can I host a video course on MailerLite or Mailchimp?
Not really. MailerLite's own page says video courses would typically be hosted elsewhere and linked, and Mailchimp does not host courses. Coachful includes courses with modules, lessons, drip and completion tracking, delivered into the client's branded app.
Why is my Mailchimp bill higher than expected?
Two common reasons: a contact in more than one audience counts once per audience, and paid plans bill overages when you exceed contact or send limits. Merging audiences into one and using tags usually fixes the first.
Did MailerLite change its prices in 2026?
Yes. On June 16, 2026, Growing Business became Comfort and Advanced became Power, with new prices and limits. Comfort now starts at $12 a month and Power at $25 a month at 500 subscribers, so older reviews quoting $10 or $20 are out of date.
Is Coachful an email marketing tool?
It includes email, but it is a coaching platform. Email lists, broadcasts and multi-step sequences with branching and A/B splits sit alongside booking, payments, contracts, programs, check-ins, a website and a branded client app. If you only need a newsletter, a dedicated email tool is cheaper.
What is Coachful's free white-glove service?
From Create, you request a build, such as a website, funnel, program, email sequence or newsletter, and attach up to 8 links and 10 files. The Coachful team builds it inside your account, usually within about 24 hours, on every plan. It does not include video recording, logo design or ad management.
Can I use Coachful and MailerLite together?
Yes. You can keep a large marketing list in an email tool and run clients in Coachful, and Coachful connects to Zapier for passing data between them. If your funnels and sequences move into Coachful too, you may no longer need the separate email bill.
Is either tool HIPAA-compliant for health coaches?
Treat none of these tools as a clinical system. Coachful is not HIPAA-certified and does not sign a BAA, so keep clinical records in a dedicated clinical system and refer clients to a clinician when health concerns go beyond coaching. See our page for health coaches for what Coachful covers.
