How to Start a Hormone Health Coaching Business in 2026

How to Start a Hormone Health Coaching Business in 2026

Here is how to start a hormone health coaching business in plain terms: choose one narrow client (for example, women in perimenopause who want steadier sleep and energy), write a scope statement that keeps you on the coaching side of the medical line, package a 12-week program, set up a simple legal base (business structure, insurance, a signed coaching agreement), run booking, payments and delivery from one platform, and fill your first ten spots through referral partners and talks rather than paid ads. With focused weekly effort, most new coaches can go from idea to paying clients in about 90 days on a modest budget.

This guide assumes you have already decided to coach. It is about building the business around that decision. We make Coachful, a coaching platform, so we show where it fits in the stack and also where it does not. If you want the broader version of this plan, read how to start a health coaching business; everything below is specific to hormone and midlife work.

What are the steps, at a glance?

Nine steps take you from a niche idea to a working practice. Times assume you are building part time alongside another job; costs are what you pay out of pocket before your first client.

Is hormone health coaching a viable niche?

Yes, if you keep it narrow and keep your scope clear. The audience is large and growing, the need is ongoing, and the people who struggle most with this life stage are often underserved between medical appointments.

The World Health Organization's menopause fact sheet states that in 2021, women aged 50 and over accounted for 26% of all women and girls globally, up from 22% ten years earlier. It also notes that perimenopause "can last several years and can affect physical, emotional, mental and social well-being," and that "awareness and access to menopause-related information and services remain a significant challenge in most countries." That gap between a doctor's appointment and daily life is where a coach works.

Who actually pays?

  • Women in perimenopause and menopause paying out of pocket for help with sleep, strength, nutrition habits, stress and energy while they work with their own doctor on medical decisions.
  • Women managing a diagnosed condition such as PCOS or a thyroid condition, who want accountability for the lifestyle side of the plan their clinician has set.
  • Employers and HR teams who want menopause-at-work workshops or small-group programs for staff.
  • Clinicians and allied practitioners (gynaecology practices, pelvic health physiotherapists, pharmacists, personal trainers) who want somewhere to send patients for habit support they do not have time to give.

Thinking of launching your coaching business?

Answer a few questions and Coachful builds it around you: your website, programs, booking and payments. Ready in minutes.

Build your platform

Where is the scope line?

Hormone health coaching is not treatment. A coach helps a client change behaviour and keep going; a clinician diagnoses, tests, prescribes and adjusts medication. Put this in writing on your website, your agreement and your intake form.

  • You do: goal setting, habit building (sleep routines, movement, strength training consistency, meal structure, stress practices), accountability, education from reputable public sources, help preparing questions and a symptom log for medical appointments.
  • You do not: diagnose, order or interpret lab tests, recommend starting, stopping or changing hormone therapy or any medication, prescribe supplement protocols to treat a condition, or promise that you will "balance" anyone's hormones.
  • You refer when: a client describes new or unexplained bleeding, especially after menopause; severe or worsening symptoms; signs of depression, self-harm or an eating disorder; chest pain or other urgent symptoms; or any question that is about a diagnosis or a medication. Our guide to mental-health warning signs in coaching covers how to refer without losing the relationship.

Do you need a credential?

There is no single license that makes someone a "hormone coach," but clients and referral partners will ask what training you have, and your insurer will too. A recognised health coach certification gives you the coaching method; a menopause or women's health course gives you the subject knowledge. Our comparisons of health coach certifications (NBHWC, ACE and the rest) and holistic programs go through the options, so we will not repeat them here. One US-specific caution: some states regulate individualised nutrition advice through dietetics licensing, so check your state's rules before you write personal meal plans.

Who is your client, and what will you sell?

Define one client in one sentence, then build two or three offers that move that person from first contact to a long-term relationship. A clear sentence helps referral partners send you the right people.

Use this template: "I help [who] with [outcome] during [life stage], alongside the care they get from their doctor." For example: "I help working women in perimenopause rebuild sleep, strength and energy routines, alongside the care they get from their doctor." That sentence names who, what and the scope line in one go.

Three example packages that fit this client:

  1. Steady Through Perimenopause (12-week 1:1). Eight 45 to 60 minute calls, a weekly check-in form, four to six daily habits (a consistent sleep window, protein at breakfast, two strength sessions a week, a daily walk, an evening wind-down), a symptom and cycle log the client can take to their doctor, and messaging between calls.
  2. Midlife Strength Circle (8-week group). A cohort of 8 to 15 women, one live group call a week, a simple strength plan, recipes, and a private community for questions and wins.
  3. Maintain (monthly membership). One call a month, weekly check-ins, ongoing habit tracking and community access for clients who finish the 12-week program and want to keep going.

The 12-week program is the core. The group is cheaper for clients and a better hourly return for you. The membership is how you stop restarting your income from zero every quarter. For help turning these into a structured curriculum, read how to create a health coaching program clients can keep.

How should you price hormone health coaching?

Price the package, not the hour, and work backwards from the income you need. Our coaching rates research, drawing on Payscale and coach community reports, puts health and wellness coaching at roughly $75 to $200 an hour (about $50 to $100 for newer coaches), with three-month programs typically at $900 to $2,000 and ongoing monthly support at $300 to $700.

The basic formula: (target annual income + annual business costs + tax set-aside) ÷ number of clients you can serve well in a year = average revenue per client. Then check that number against the ranges above and your experience.

The table below is illustrative. The prices are examples within or near the ranges above, not market data, and the 3% processing figure is an assumption for the math; check your own Stripe or Razorpay rate.

Offer (example)Example priceClientsGross per cycleAfter 3% processingYour hoursEffective hourly
12-week 1:1 program$1,5008$12,000$11,64064 call hours + 24 admin = 88About $132
8-week group cohort$45012$5,400$5,2388 call hours + 16 community and prep = 24About $218
Monthly membership$300 a month10$3,000 a month$2,910 a month10 call hours + 5 check-in review = 15About $194

Two things stand out. Group work earns more per hour, but most clients will only join a group after trusting you, so it usually follows 1:1 work rather than replacing it. And the membership is what makes revenue predictable: ten members at the example price bring in $3,000 a month before you sell anything new.

Payment plans help with a $1,500 package. Three monthly payments of $500 makes the decision easier for a client in her forties who is also paying for appointments and tests. Our coaching packages page has more structures to borrow.

What legal setup does a hormone health coaching business need?

You need a business structure, a tax plan, insurance, a signed coaching agreement and sensible data habits. The US details below come from official sources; rules differ by state and country, so check with an accountant or attorney before you file anything.

Business structure and EIN

The SBA's guide to choosing a business structure explains that a sole proprietorship is automatic when you trade without registering another structure, and is "a good choice for low-risk businesses and owners who want to test their business idea," but it leaves you personally liable for business debts. An LLC protects owners from personal liability "in most instances," and its members still pay self-employment tax. An S corp is a tax election filed with the IRS on Form 2553, and an LLC can be taxed as one.

Many health coaches start as sole proprietors and form an LLC once clients are paying, because the work touches health and liability matters more than in many other niches. Form the LLC with your state first, then apply for an EIN: the IRS issues it online in minutes, for free, and "You never have to pay a fee for an EIN."

Taxes

  • Self-employment tax is 15.3% (12.4% Social Security plus 2.9% Medicare), due if your net earnings from self-employment are $400 or more. For 2026, the Social Security portion applies up to $184,500 of earnings, per Form 1040-ES (2026).
  • If you expect to owe $1,000 or more when you file, you generally need to make estimated payments. The last 2026 payment is due January 15, 2027.
  • As a sole proprietor or single-member LLC, you report income and expenses on Schedule C.

A simple habit: move a fixed share of every payment into a separate tax account the day it arrives. Ask an accountant what share fits your situation.

Licenses and permits

The SBA notes that "Most small businesses need a combination of licenses and permits" and that requirements depend on activity and location. Check your Secretary of State and city or county websites for a general business license, and, as above, check whether your state restricts individualised nutrition advice.

Insurance

Professional liability insurance is the policy that matters most. The SBA describes it as cover for businesses that provide services to customers that "protects against financial loss as a result of malpractice, errors, and negligence." When you ask for quotes, describe your work precisely ("health coaching for women in perimenopause and menopause, non-clinical, including habit and nutrition coaching") and ask in writing whether group programs, online clients in other states or countries, and any fitness instruction are covered.

Coaching agreement

Your agreement is where the scope line becomes enforceable. Include:

  • What coaching is and is not, and that it does not replace medical care.
  • That the client stays under the care of her own clinician and will consult them before changing medication, supplements or exercise intensity.
  • Your referral clause: when you will pause coaching and recommend medical or mental health support.
  • What to do in an emergency (call emergency services, not you).
  • Fees, payment plan terms, refunds, cancellations and missed sessions.
  • Confidentiality, its limits, and how you store client information.

In Coachful, agreements are sent for e-signature before the first call and stored on the client record. Our coaching contracts page shows how that works.

Coachful's Agreements tab with a drop area for signed PDFs
The Agreements tab in Coachful, empty in this demo account, with a drop area for a signed PDF.

Client data

Hormone coaching produces sensitive information: symptoms, cycles, mood, sleep, sometimes lab results a client wants to share. Collect only what you need for coaching. If a client offers lab reports, you can note that she has discussed them with her doctor without storing or interpreting them. If you plan to work inside, or under contract with, a medical practice, ask an attorney whether HIPAA applies to you. Coachful is not HIPAA-certified and does not sign a BAA; it is GDPR-ready and built for coaching, not clinical record-keeping.

Marketing claims and testimonials

Hormone marketing is full of promises nobody can keep. The FTC's Endorsement Guides say endorsements "must be honest and not misleading," and testimonials showing exceptional results need proof that they are what people generally achieve, or the ad must make the expected results clear. The Consumer Reviews and Testimonials Rule, in effect since October 21, 2024, prohibits fake reviews and incentives tied to a particular sentiment. For email, the CAN-SPAM guide requires a physical postal address and a working opt-out honoured within 10 business days. Our piece on going beyond the hormone claims is a good reminder of how easily hormone language outruns the evidence.

What tech stack does a hormone health coach need?

You need seven jobs covered: a website, booking, payments, agreements, program delivery with habits and check-ins, a community for groups, and email. You can stitch these from five or six tools, or run them from one platform. We recommend one platform, and we recommend Coachful, with the caveats below.

What Coachful is. Coachful is a coaching platform. One subscription covers booking, payments, contracts, program delivery with habits and check-ins, courses, a community, a website with funnels and email, and an AI assistant, with one login for you and one branded app for your clients. It is built for coaches who deliver programs, not just sessions, for solo coaches growing into a small team, and for coaches replacing four to six tools. What it does not do: it is not HIPAA-certified and is not for clinical record-keeping or insurance billing; there is no PayPal; there is no Garmin, Fitbit, Whoop or Oura sync, and Apple Health sync is not publicly available; the client app ships under the Coachful listing with your branding rather than under your own App Store account. How to start: take a free trial, then ask the team to build your site, funnel or first program for you through the free white-glove service.

Here is what a stitched stack looks like next to it, with prices as listed in October 2026:

What each part of Coachful replaces in practice:

  • The website builder and funnels replace a separate site host and landing page tool. You get a section-based builder with blog, custom domain, SEO settings and 30 designed homepage templates, plus booking, application, lead-magnet and checkout funnels with pixels and UTM tracking.
  • Booking replaces a scheduling tool: availability rules, buffers, minimum notice, time-zone detection, two-way Google, Apple and Outlook calendar sync, built-in video or auto-created Zoom, Meet or Teams links, and intake questions on booking.
  • Payments run through your own Stripe Connect or Razorpay account, with one-time payments, subscriptions, payment plans, coupons and refunds. Coachful charges a 0% platform fee (since August 2026); you pay only Stripe or Razorpay processing.
  • Programs, habits and check-ins replace a client-engagement app and the spreadsheet you would otherwise use to chase clients: multi-week programs with weekly goals, daily tasks, habits, morning and evening check-ins, goals with progress bars and streaks.
  • Community and cohorts replace a separate community tool. A cohort group is created automatically when a client enrols in a program.
  • Email lists, broadcasts and sequences replace a separate email tool, with triggers, delays, branching and A/B splits.
  • Michelle, the built-in AI assistant, works from your live practice data: it drafts emails and content, builds programs, summarises recorded sessions and briefs you before each call.

If you are a licensed dietitian or clinician who needs charting and telehealth notes, a practice management tool like Practice Better is built for that kind of record-keeping and Coachful is not. For a non-clinical hormone coach, the work is habits, accountability and community, which is what Coachful is built around. Our roundup of the best health coaching software compares more options, and our health coaches page shows the setup in more detail.

Why Coachful stands out: a free white-glove service. From Create, choose "We'll build it for you · FREE," describe what you want (a website, a funnel, a sales page, a program, a course outline, an email sequence, a lead quiz and more), and attach up to 8 reference links and up to 10 files such as your logo, photos and draft copy. The Coachful team builds it inside your own account, usually within about 24 hours. Nothing is invented: no fake credentials, testimonials or prices; gaps are left for you to fill. It does not include recording videos, logo design, ad management or ongoing marketing. One recent build was for a menopause and midlife health coach starting from nothing: a five-page site in sage and cream, with every button leading to a free 20-minute consultation. How do you set up your website, booking and payments?

Keep the website to five pages, make the free consultation the only call to action, and connect booking and payment so a client can go from reading to paying without leaving your site.

Which one looks like you?

Coachful builds your coaching website from a few answers, in a design chosen for your niche, with programs, booking and payments ready behind it.

Build your platform

Website

A hormone coaching site needs a homepage that names the client and outcome in the first line, an About page with honest training and your own story if you choose to share it, a Work With Me page with your packages, one free resource, and a Contact page. Put your scope statement in the footer of every page ("Coaching is not medical care. Please keep working with your doctor."). A calm wellness template saves design time; our guide to health coach websites covers what to write on each page.

Booking

Set up one free 20-minute consultation and one paid session type. Ask three or four intake questions on the booking form (life stage, main goal, whether she is currently working with a doctor on her symptoms, how she heard about you). Add buffers so you are not running from call to call, and switch on reminders: email by default, plus SMS 24 hours before and WhatsApp one hour before once messaging is enabled. Our health coaching intake form template covers the full intake you send after someone signs.

Payments

Create each package as an offer with a one-time price and a payment-plan option, and use session credits if you sell blocks of calls. Coachful creates an invoice per transaction and supports manual invoices, Apple Pay and Google Pay, and Stripe Tax if you need to collect sales tax or VAT. See our coaching payment software page for details.

How do you get your first 10 hormone health coaching clients?

Your first ten clients usually come from people who already know you and from professionals who see your ideal client every week. Ads come later, once you know what converts.

  1. Warm network. Write to 30 to 50 people you know personally. Do not pitch; ask who they know.
  2. Clinician and practitioner referrals. Gynaecology and family practices, pelvic health physiotherapists, pharmacists, massage therapists and personal trainers see midlife women constantly and rarely have time for habit coaching.
  3. Workplace talks. Offer HR teams a 45-minute "menopause at work" session. One talk puts you in front of dozens of the right people.
  4. Gyms, Pilates and yoga studios. Offer a free workshop on strength and sleep in midlife for members.
  5. Community venues. Libraries and community centres often host free health talks.
  6. One useful resource. A scope-safe lead magnet works well: a "doctor's appointment prep" worksheet with a two-week symptom log and a list of questions to ask. It helps the client and makes you look like a partner to clinicians, not a competitor.
  7. Weekly content. One honest, practical post a week on sleep, strength or meal structure, ending with an invitation to the free consultation.

Three scripts to adapt:

Warm network: "Hi [name], I have started a coaching practice for women going through perimenopause, focused on sleep, strength and energy routines alongside their own doctor's care. I am taking my first ten clients at a founding rate. Is there anyone you would think of who might want to hear about it?"

Clinician outreach: "Hello Dr [name], I am a certified health coach working with women in perimenopause on the lifestyle side of their care: sleep routines, strength training consistency and meal structure. I do not give medical advice, and I send clients back to their doctor for anything clinical. If it would help your patients, I would be glad to send a one-page overview and a free appointment-prep worksheet they can bring to visits."

HR pitch: "Many of your team members are likely in their forties and fifties. I run a 45-minute session on managing sleep, energy and focus through perimenopause at work, with practical steps and clear guidance on when to speak to a doctor. Could I send you an outline?"

When someone books, run the call with a structure. Our health coaching discovery call script walks through five phases with a full example. In Coachful, every consultation lands on the Intakes page so you can see who is upcoming and who converted.

How do you deliver results and keep clients?

Results come from what clients do between calls, so build the program around daily habits and short check-ins, review them weekly, and give group clients a place to talk to each other.

A laptop showing a client's coaching progress page and a phone showing an enrolled group program
A client's My Coaching progress page and an enrolled group program view in Coachful, shown with demo data on a kitchen counter.

A simple 12-week shape that works for perimenopause clients:

  • Weeks 1 to 2: baseline. Intake, goals, a two-week log of sleep, energy, mood and cycle, one habit to start (often a consistent bedtime and wake time).
  • Weeks 3 to 6: foundations. Add a protein-forward breakfast, two short strength sessions a week and a daily walk. Prepare questions for the client's next medical appointment if she has one.
  • Weeks 7 to 10: adjust. Review what the logs show, drop what is not working, and work on stress and evening routines.
  • Weeks 11 to 12: maintain. Plan for setbacks, set three-month goals and offer the membership.

In Coachful, each week becomes weekly goals, daily tasks and habits inside the client's branded app. Morning and evening check-ins give clients a short daily touchpoint, so you walk into every call already knowing how the week went. The client records these as her own notes; your role is to coach on patterns and send anything medical back to her doctor.

If you also coach strength and nutrition, the Fitness & Nutrition pack adds a workout builder with an illustrated exercise library, client workout logging, nutrition targets, meal plans, recipes and weekly check-ins. You attach your own demo videos; there are no stock exercise videos.

On the coach side, every client record shows a status of thriving, active, quiet or at risk alongside goals, check-ins and habits. A client going quiet in week five is your cue to send a short message before she drifts.

For groups, the cohort community is often what clients value most: other women at the same stage, comparing notes on sleep and strength. Run a weekly live Q&A and post one prompt a week.

Some clients will have conditions that need specialist tracking beyond what a coaching platform offers; our guide on when a health coach needs a second app covers that.

What does a 30/60/90-day launch plan look like?

Spend the first month on foundations, the second on getting in front of people, and the third on delivery and referrals.

How much does it cost to start a hormone health coaching business?

A lean start costs little beyond software and insurance; a comfortable start adds an LLC, attorney review of your agreement and further training. The biggest variable is training, which depends on what you already hold.

What mistakes do new hormone health coaches make?

Most mistakes come from saying too much (in marketing or in sessions) and building too much before anyone has paid.

  1. Promising to "balance hormones." You cannot measure it, you should not claim it, and it invites clients to expect treatment.
  2. Interpreting lab results. Even a casual "that number looks low" is a medical opinion. Send the question back to her doctor.
  3. Selling supplement protocols. Recommending products to treat symptoms crosses the scope line and creates a conflict of interest.
  4. Treating doctors as the enemy. Clinicians are your best referral source. Position yourself as the support between appointments.
  5. Going too broad. "Women's hormone health" covers puberty to post-menopause. Pick one stage.
  6. Building a course before a client. Run the 12-week program live with 1:1 clients first; turn it into a group or course once you know what works.
  7. Using testimonials that promise outliers. A testimonial about dramatic weight loss needs context about typical results, per the FTC's Endorsement Guides.

Our list of mistakes new health coaches make covers the general ones in more depth.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a medical background to become a hormone health coach?

No. Many hormone health coaches come from coaching, fitness or nutrition backgrounds. What you need is solid coaching training, accurate subject knowledge from reputable sources, a clear scope statement, and the habit of referring anything medical back to the client's doctor.

Can a hormone health coach recommend hormone therapy or supplements?

No. Starting, stopping or changing hormone therapy, medication or supplements to treat a condition is a medical decision. You can help a client prepare questions for her doctor and support the habits her doctor recommends.

How much should I charge as a new hormone health coach?

Our rates research, drawing on Payscale and coach community reports, puts health and wellness coaching at roughly $75 to $200 an hour, with three-month programs typically at $900 to $2,000. Newer coaches usually start toward the lower end and raise prices as testimonials and referrals build.

Should I form an LLC before my first client?

Not necessarily. The SBA describes a sole proprietorship as a reasonable way to test a low-risk idea, and many coaches form an LLC once clients are paying. Because hormone coaching touches health, ask an attorney or accountant whether an LLC makes sense for you from day one.

What insurance does a hormone health coach need?

Professional liability insurance is the core policy. Describe your work precisely to the insurer and confirm in writing that group programs, online clients and any nutrition or exercise guidance are covered.

Is Coachful HIPAA-compliant?

No. Coachful is not HIPAA-certified and does not sign a BAA, and it is not built for clinical record-keeping or insurance billing. It is GDPR-ready and suited to non-clinical coaching; if you work under a medical practice, ask an attorney what you need.

What is Coachful's free white-glove service?

It is a free build service on every plan: you describe your website, funnel, program or other asset, attach up to 8 links and 10 files, and the Coachful team builds it in your account, usually within about 24 hours. It never invents credentials, testimonials or prices, and it does not cover video recording, logo design or ad management.

Can clients track symptoms in Coachful?

Clients complete morning and evening check-ins and track habits and goals, and they can keep their own sleep, energy and mood notes to bring to their doctor. Coachful does not sync with Garmin, Fitbit, Whoop or Oura, and you should not interpret those notes medically.

Where do most first clients come from?

For most new hormone coaches, the first clients come from their warm network, clinicians and practitioners who refer, and talks at workplaces, gyms or community venues. Paid ads work better once you know which message converts.

How long does it take to launch?

About 90 days is realistic part time: one month for foundations, one for outreach and consultations, and one for delivering to your first clients and asking for referrals.
