Metricool vs Later for Coaches: Honest 2026 Comparison

Metricool vs Later for Coaches: Honest 2026 Comparison

Metricool vs Later comes down to one question: do you want broad reach and data, or a visual Instagram planner? Metricool is the better pick for most coaches because its free plan is usable, its paid plans include Instagram comment-to-DM automation, its inbox works on every plan, and it publishes to more networks, including LinkedIn on paid plans and X through an add-on. Later suits coaches who live on Instagram, Pinterest or TikTok and want a grid preview and a polished link-in-bio page. Neither tool books a session, takes a payment or delivers a program, which is why this comparison ends with a third option.

We make Coachful, a coaching platform with its own social planner and Instagram automations, so read the last sections with that in mind. Everything about Metricool and Later below comes from what each vendor publishes on its pricing page and help center, as listed in October 2026, plus public review scores. We have not run hands-on tests of either tool, and we say so where it matters.

What is the short answer on Metricool vs Later?

Metricool wins on value, network coverage and automation; Later wins on visual Instagram planning and simplicity. Here is the short version by use case.

  • You post to LinkedIn and X as a business or executive coach: Metricool. Both tools publish to LinkedIn on paid plans, but Metricool's paid plans also add X through an add-on, while Later dropped X entirely in August 2025.
  • You want to turn Instagram comments into booked calls: Metricool. Its Flows feature sends a DM when someone comments a keyword, on paid plans. Later documents no automated DM or comment-reply feature.
  • You plan a beautiful Instagram grid and pin ideas on Pinterest: Later. Its visual planner and Pinterest focus are its home ground.
  • You want to answer DMs and comments in one place on a small budget: Metricool. Its inbox is on every plan, including Free. Later's Social Inbox starts on Growth.
  • You want to test scheduling for free: Metricool. Its free plan allows 20 posts a month and 30 days of analytics. Later's free plan exists in its help center but has no platform analytics and no Instagram carousel or Stories scheduling.
  • You want one system that also books sessions, takes payments and runs your programs: neither. That is the gap Coachful fills, covered near the end.

How do Metricool, Later and Coachful compare side by side?

Criteria for this table: one login for the whole client journey, between-session delivery, total stack cost, and setup effort. On those criteria Coachful leads, while Metricool and Later lead on pure social media work.

Public review scores point the same way as the feature list. As seen on Trustpilot on 28 October 2026, Metricool scored 4.1 from 690 reviews and Later scored 1.4 from 352 reviews. Review scores skew toward unhappy customers, and many Later reviews concern billing, so treat them as a signal to read the trial terms carefully rather than as a verdict on the product.

How much do Metricool and Later cost?

At the entry level they cost almost the same: $25 a month on monthly billing for each Starter plan, with Later slightly cheaper on yearly billing. The difference is what that money buys. Metricool prices by brand, Later prices by Social Set and user.

Later Scale$110$82.506 Social Sets, unlimited posts, competitor benchmarking, 2 years of analytics4

All prices are in US dollars as listed in October 2026 and exclude tax. Metricool's yearly figures are labelled "save up to 24%". Later's pricing page shows yearly prices by default with the label "3 months free | 25% off", while its help center says an annual plan gives "4 months free", so check the checkout screen before you pay. Later's monthly prices come from the pricing page's own billing toggle.

Metricool's pricing page in October 2026. The page switches between euro and US dollar prices, and the numbers differ between the two.

The add-ons that change the real price

Metricool's main add-on for coaches is X: connecting an X account costs $10 a month per account on top of a paid plan. Its Advanced Analytics add-on starts at $12 a month on Starter, and a Hashtag Tracker costs $25 a day. Metricool subscriptions can be paid by card or PayPal.

Later sells extra Social Sets at $15 a month each on monthly billing ($11.25 yearly) and extra users at $5 a month ($3.75 yearly), but only on Growth and Scale. Extra blocks of 100 AI credits cost $5 a month ($3.75 yearly). The pricing page says Starter cannot buy extra AI credits, while the help center lists credit add-ons for all paid plans, another place where the two sources disagree.

Worked examples (illustrative)

These examples use the October 2026 list prices above. They are illustrations, not quotes.

  • A life coach on Instagram and Facebook only. Metricool Free covers this at $0 if 20 posts a month is enough. Later Free allows 12 posts per profile but no carousels, Stories or analytics, so most Instagram coaches would move to Later Starter at $18.75 a month on yearly billing.
  • An executive coach on LinkedIn, Instagram and X. Metricool Starter plus the X add-on is $35 a month on monthly billing, or $30 a month with Starter billed yearly. Later cannot publish to X at all, so you would need a second tool.
  • A coach with a virtual assistant. Later Growth gives 2 users at $37.50 a month billed yearly. On Metricool, inviting a team member requires Advanced, at $53 a month billed yearly for up to 15 brands.

For a wider view of per-channel pricing, see our Metricool vs Buffer comparison and Buffer vs Later breakdown.

Which social networks can each tool publish to?

Metricool connects more networks, including X, Bluesky and Google Business Profile; Later covers Snapchat, which Metricool does not list, and has no X support since 28 August 2025.

For most coaches the deciding networks are LinkedIn and X. Business, career, executive and sales coaches tend to find clients there, and Later's lack of X is a hard stop if X matters to you. Fitness, wellness and lifestyle coaches who rely on Pinterest boards and short video are well served by either. If you post long YouTube videos, note that Later documents YouTube Shorts only.

How do planning and scheduling compare?

Both tools give you a drag-and-drop calendar and auto-publishing; Later leans visual, Metricool leans volume and data. The right one depends on how you plan.

Later built its name on the visual Instagram planner: you see how your grid will look before posts go live. Paid plans auto-publish Instagram carousels and Stories, schedule a first comment, and suggest a best time to post. The AI Caption Writer and Ideas tools are English only, and Starter includes just 5 AI credits a month, so heavy AI users will feel the limit quickly. Starter also caps you at 30 posts per profile per month, which is about one a day. The free plan's calendar only shows two weeks past and future.

Metricool gives you a planner with auto-publishing on every plan, including Free, with 20 posts a month on Free and unlimited publishing under a fair use policy from Starter up. It includes 5 AI credits per brand a month on Free and 20 on Starter, plus Google Drive and Canva integration on paid plans. Its planner is less of a pure grid-design tool and more of a cross-network calendar, which suits a coach who repurposes one idea across LinkedIn, Instagram and Threads.

A practical tip either way: batch your content around your offers, not around the calendar. If you run a 12-week program, plan the posts that lead to the enrollment window first, then fill the gaps with value posts.

Which handles DMs, comments and automation better?

Metricool, clearly. Its inbox is on every plan and its Flows feature automates Instagram comment-to-DM on paid plans; Later's Social Inbox starts on Growth and it documents no automated replies.

For coaches, the DM is where leads become calls. A common pattern is "comment GUIDE and I'll send you the link". On Metricool, Flows handles Instagram comment-to-DM and keyword DM replies on paid plans, plus TikTok comment replies and X auto-reposts. Metricool describes Flows as available at "no extra cost for a limited time", so the price may change later.

Metricool's inbox covers Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube and Google Business Profile on all plans, and adds LinkedIn on paid plans. Later's Social Inbox covers Instagram and Facebook DMs and Instagram, Facebook and TikTok comments, but it begins on Growth at $37.50 a month billed yearly, is labelled beta and works on desktop only. Starter users see a preview only.

Neither tool knows what happens after the DM. When someone books a call or buys a program, that person lives in a different system, and you copy details across by hand. If DM automation is your main need and you do not need a scheduler, dedicated tools such as ManyChat exist, though they bring their own contact-based pricing.

How do the link-in-bio pages compare?

Both include one on every plan. Later's collects email sign-ups; Metricool's allows multiple pages on paid plans.

Later's Link in Bio page comes with every plan, one per Social Set. It can collect email sign-ups into Mailchimp or a CSV file, which is handy for a lead magnet. The free version shows a Later banner; Starter and up remove it and add custom SEO and UTM values.

Metricool's SmartLinks are on every plan with unlimited links, and paid plans allow multiple link-in-bio pages, useful if you run separate brands. Metricool does not document email capture on SmartLinks in the material we reviewed.

For a coach, a link-in-bio page is only as good as where it sends people. If the links point to a booking page, a checkout and a lead magnet that each live in different tools, every click is a hand-off.

Which has better analytics and reporting?

Metricool, by a wide margin at the entry price. It keeps unlimited analytics history from Starter and tracks up to 100 competitors; Later keeps 3 months on Starter and benchmarks competitors only on Scale.

  • History: Metricool Free keeps 30 days, Starter and up unlimited. Later Free has no platform analytics (only 3 months of Link in Bio click data), Starter 3 months, Growth 1 year, Scale 2 years.
  • Competitors: Metricool tracks 5 on Free and up to 100 on Starter. Later's competitor benchmarking is on Scale only, up to 20 competitors, Instagram only.
  • Reports: Metricool exports PDF and PPT reports from Starter and adds customizable templates and a Looker Studio connector on Advanced. Later offers a shareable performance report on Growth and scheduled email reports on Scale.
  • Export: Metricool offers CSV downloads across analytics lists, competitor tables, SmartLinks metrics and the content calendar. Later exports Instagram, Facebook and Threads analytics as CSV from Starter, LinkedIn from Growth; graphs cannot be exported and no bulk export of posts is documented.

Most solo coaches do not need two years of history. What they need is to know which posts produced enquiries, and neither tool can tell you which follower became a paying client, because neither holds your client records.

Which one looks like you?

Coachful builds your coaching website from a few answers, in a design chosen for your niche, with programs, booking and payments ready behind it.

Build your platform

How do team access and approvals work?

Later is cheaper for a coach plus one assistant; Metricool is better for an agency or a multi-coach practice. It depends on headcount.

Later Starter allows one user and cannot add more. Growth includes 2 users, approval workflows, external review links and a shared calendar; extra users are $5 a month each. Scale includes 4 users.

Metricool prices by brand, not user. Starter does not include team or client management, so even one assistant pushes you to Advanced, which then includes unlimited team members, roles and a post approval system. If you manage social for several coaches or clients, Metricool's brand-based pricing is the better deal.

What does the client experience look like with either tool?

Your clients never see Metricool or Later. Both tools stop at the public post, the DM and the link-in-bio click.

That matters more than it first seems. Picture the path: a prospect sees your Reel, comments a keyword, gets a DM with a link, books a discovery call, signs your agreement, pays, and starts your program. With Metricool or Later, the tool handles only the first two or three steps. The booking page, the contract, the payment, the program, the check-ins and the community all come from other tools, each with its own login for you and often for your client.

Our posts on Calendly pricing, Kajabi pricing and Skool pricing show what those extra tools typically cost when you add them up. For a coach, the social scheduler is often the smallest line in that stack.

Which should you pick for your kind of coaching practice?

Pick by where your clients find you and what else you already pay for.

  • Business, executive, career and sales coaches: Metricool, for LinkedIn and X. Later is out if X matters.
  • Fitness, nutrition and wellness coaches posting short video and Pinterest pins: either works. Pick Later for the grid preview and email-capturing link page; pick Metricool for DM automation and a free inbox.
  • Life, mindset and relationship coaches on Instagram: Metricool if you want comment-to-DM automation on a Starter budget; Later if visual planning is the part you enjoy.
  • Coaches with an assistant: Later Growth for two people; Metricool Advanced if you also manage other brands.
  • Coaches managing social for several clients or coaches: Metricool, priced by brand.
  • New coaches with no budget: Metricool Free. See our guide for new coaches for what to set up first.

Is there a third option that replaces both? When Coachful beats them, and when it does not

Yes, if the reason you post is to fill your coaching practice. Coachful is a coaching platform that includes a social planner and Instagram automations alongside booking, payments, programs and the client app, so the post and the client who comes from it live in one system.

Coachful's Automations screen on a laptop beside Coachful's session calendar on a monitor

Coachful is built for coaches who deliver programs, not just sessions: solo coaches growing into a small team, and coaches replacing four to six tools. One subscription covers booking, payments, contracts, program delivery with habits and check-ins, courses, a community, a website with funnels and email, and an AI assistant, with one login for the coach and one branded app for the client.

What the social side of Coachful does

The social planner sits under Sell, How you reach them, Social planner. It helps with post ideas and captions using AI, then schedules and publishes posts to Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X, Threads and YouTube from one calendar. Each network publishes separately, with a retry per network and a notification if one fails.

Instagram automations live under Manage, Your client experience, Automations, once you connect your Instagram professional account under Connections. Triggers include a DM, a comment on a post (optionally only when it contains chosen keywords), a story reply, a mention, or a new follower where Meta supports it. Actions send a DM, reply publicly to the comment, send a DM with buttons or quick replies, or send an AI-written reply, which uses one AI credit per reply. The typical use: someone comments a keyword, gets your booking link, lead magnet or checkout in a DM, and lands in the same Coachful lead and client records you coach from.

What happens after the click

This is where Coachful differs from Metricool and Later. The DM link goes to a Coachful booking page with availability rules, buffers, minimum notice and time-zone detection, synced two ways with Google, Apple/iCloud or Outlook calendars. Sessions run on built-in video or auto-created Zoom, Meet or Teams links. A coaching agreement with e-signature goes out before the first call. Payments run through your own Stripe Connect or Razorpay account, with one-time payments, subscriptions, payment plans and coupons, and Coachful takes a 0% platform fee (since August 2026); you pay only Stripe or Razorpay processing.

Then the coaching itself: multi-week programs with weekly goals, daily tasks, habits, morning and evening check-ins and streaks, delivered into the client's branded home and app. Each client record holds goals, check-ins, habits, notes, intake answers, payments and sessions, with a status of thriving, active, quiet or at risk.

When Coachful beats Metricool and Later

  • You want the Instagram comment, the DM, the booking, the payment and the program in one place, without copying leads between tools.
  • You post to LinkedIn and X as well as Instagram, and want them in the same calendar as your client work.
  • You currently pay for a scheduler plus a booking tool, a payment or invoicing tool, a course platform and a community, and want one bill. Current plans: Lite: $29/month for up to 5 clients; Solo: $49/month for up to 20 clients; Pro: $99/month with unlimited clients; Studio: $199/month with unlimited clients.
  • You want between-session delivery: habits, check-ins and goals that keep clients moving.

When Metricool or Later is the better choice

  • You need TikTok or Pinterest publishing. Coachful's social planner does not publish to TikTok or Pinterest; Metricool and Later both do.
  • You need social analytics. Coachful has no social analytics dashboards or competitor tracking. Metricool is the stronger pick here.
  • You need a unified social inbox. Coachful does not offer one; Metricool includes it on every plan.
  • You want a visual grid preview. Later's planner is built for that.
  • You only need social media, at no cost. Metricool's no-cost plan covers basic scheduling, while Coachful is a paid membership.
  • You manage social for many separate brands. Metricool's brand-based pricing is designed for agencies.

Plenty of coaches run both: Metricool for analytics and TikTok, Coachful for everything from the DM onward. That is a reasonable stack.

What Coachful does not do

To be fair about limits: Coachful is not HIPAA-certified and is not for clinical record-keeping. It does not support PayPal. The client app ships under the Coachful listing with your branding, not under your own App Store account. It has no Salesforce or HubSpot integration, no third-party plugins, and it is not a general website builder for non-coaching sites. On the social side, it does not automate WhatsApp, Messenger or TikTok DMs.

Why Coachful stands out: a free white-glove service. On every plan, you can ask the Coachful team to build things for you inside your own account. From Create, then "We'll build it for you · FREE", you describe what you want: a website, a funnel, a sales page, a program, a course outline, an email sequence, a link in bio, a lead quiz or an automation. You can attach up to 8 reference links and up to 10 files such as logos, photos and brand guides. The team usually builds it within about 24 hours, and nothing gets invented: no fake credentials, testimonials or prices. For example, a business mentor for beauty professionals got a 12-week mentorship sales page, a free start-up-guide funnel and rewritten follow-up emails. It does not cover recording videos, logo design, ad management or ongoing marketing. Read more about the free white-glove service.

How do you get started with Coachful?

Start a free trial, connect your accounts, and request a white-glove build for whatever would take you longest.

  1. Start the trial and pick a plan that covers your client count. Lower plans cap the number of clients, Pro is unlimited, and team plans add seats. For 15 clients, that is Solo: $49/month for up to 20 clients.
  2. Connect Stripe or Razorpay, your calendar, and your Instagram professional account under Connections.
  3. Request a build from Create: a website, a booking funnel or a lead-magnet funnel. Clients, programs and content are imported for you during onboarding.
  4. Set up one Instagram automation: a comment keyword that sends your booking link or lead magnet by DM.
  5. Schedule a week of posts in the social planner across Instagram, LinkedIn and the other networks you use.

Frequently asked questions about Metricool vs Later

Is Metricool or Later better for coaches?

For most coaches, Metricool is the better value: a usable free plan, an inbox on every plan, Instagram comment-to-DM automation on paid plans, and LinkedIn and X support. Later is better if you plan visually for Instagram and Pinterest and want a link-in-bio page that collects emails. Neither handles booking, payments or programs.

Does Later have a free plan?

Yes, though it is documented in Later's help center rather than on the pricing page. It allows 1 Social Set, 12 posts per profile per month and a Link in Bio page, with no platform analytics and no Instagram carousel or Stories scheduling. Later also offers a 14-day trial of paid plans that requires a card and renews automatically unless cancelled.

Can Later post to X (Twitter)?

No. Later ended X support on 28 August 2025. Metricool connects X through an add-on of $10 a month per account on paid plans, as listed in October 2026.

Does Metricool automate Instagram DMs?

Yes. Metricool's Flows feature sends Instagram DMs when someone comments a keyword and handles keyword DM replies, on paid plans. Metricool says Flows is included at no extra cost for a limited time, so check the current terms.

Which is cheaper, Metricool or Later?

Both Starter plans are $25 a month on monthly billing. On yearly billing, Later Starter is $18.75 a month and Metricool Starter is $20 a month, but Metricool Starter covers up to 5 brands while Later Starter covers one Social Set and one user. Metricool also has a free plan that most coaches can actually use.

Can I use Metricool or Later to book clients?

No. Neither tool includes a booking calendar, client records, payments, programs or courses. You can put a booking link in your link-in-bio page or DMs, but the booking itself needs a separate tool or a coaching platform.

Does Coachful replace a social media scheduler?

For many coaches, yes. Coachful's social planner schedules and publishes to Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X, Threads and YouTube, and its Instagram automations send DMs from comments and keywords. It does not publish to TikTok or Pinterest and has no social analytics dashboards or unified social inbox, so keep Metricool or Later if you need those.

What is Coachful's free white-glove service?

On every plan, the Coachful team will build a website, funnel, program, email sequence or other asset inside your account from your brief, usually within about 24 hours. You can attach reference links and files, and nothing is invented: gaps are left for you to fill. It does not include video recording, logo design or ad management.

Can I use Metricool and Coachful together?

Yes. A common setup is Metricool for TikTok, Pinterest and analytics, and Coachful for the DM automation, booking, payments and program delivery that follow. Coachful also connects to Zapier, Meta Pixel and GA4.

Is Coachful HIPAA-compliant?

No. Coachful is not HIPAA-certified and does not sign a BAA, so clinical records and insurance billing belong in a clinical system. Coachful is GDPR-ready and lets you export all client data as a ZIP file.
