PT Distinction vs Trainerize (2026): Pricing and Verdict

PT Distinction vs Trainerize (2026): Pricing and Verdict

If you are weighing pt distinction vs trainerize, here is the short version: PT Distinction suits online personal trainers who want nutrition coaching, automations and payments in one plan, plus their own branded app from the Pro tier. Trainerize suits trainers who want to start free or very cheap, need wearable and app integrations, and are happy to add paid modules for scheduling, payments, video and advanced nutrition as they grow. Both are built for workouts first. If you also sell courses, run a community, book paid sessions or need a website and funnels, neither covers that, and a third option is worth a look.

We make Coachful, a coaching platform that competes with both, so read this with that in mind. Every PT Distinction and Trainerize price below comes from each vendor's public pricing page as listed in October 2026, and we say plainly where each of them beats us. We have not run client programs inside either tool; where we describe how they work, we report what the vendors document and what public reviewers say.

What is the short answer on PT Distinction vs Trainerize?

Pick PT Distinction if you want one price that already includes nutrition coaching, automated workflows and the ability to sell packages. Pick Trainerize if you want a free plan to start, wearable integrations, or a much larger company's ecosystem behind your app.

Here is the answer by use case:

  • You are just starting and have one or two clients: Trainerize. Its free Basic plan covers 1 client and Grow covers 2 clients for $10 a month. PT Distinction's cheapest plan is $19.90 a month for 3 clients, after a one-month free trial.
  • You coach 15 to 50 clients and want a branded app: PT Distinction. Its Pro plan includes your own custom-branded iOS and Android apps for 25 clients at $59.90 a month. Trainerize charges a $169 one-time setup for a custom branded app on Pro, on top of the Pro tier and any add-ons.
  • Nutrition is a big part of your offer: PT Distinction lists nutrition coaching in every plan. On Trainerize, meal and macro tracking start at Grow, while Advanced Nutrition Coaching is a separate $20 or $45 monthly add-on depending on your tier.
  • Your clients wear trackers: Trainerize, which lists app and wearable integrations from the Grow plan.
  • You run a studio with several locations: Trainerize's Studio Plus, which starts at $275 a month for up to 500 members and bundles all add-ons.
  • You sell programs, courses, group coaching and sessions, not only workouts: neither. That is where Coachful fits, covered in its own section below.

How do PT Distinction and Trainerize compare side by side?

PT Distinction is the more complete package at a single price; Trainerize is cheaper at the bottom and more modular. Ranked on four things that matter to coaches who sell more than one kind of offer: one login for the whole client journey, delivery between sessions, total stack cost, and setup effort.

On public reviews, PT Distinction showed a Trustpilot score of 4.8 from 297 reviews in October 2026, and Trainerize showed 3.1 from 100 reviews. Review scores are a rough signal: they mix support experiences, billing complaints and feature requests, and smaller vendors often have more engaged communities. Still, the gap is wide enough to be worth reading the recent reviews of both before you commit.

What do PT Distinction and Trainerize cost?

PT Distinction costs $19.90, $59.90 or $89.90 a month, with included clients and a per-client charge above that. Trainerize starts free, then charges by client tier, with several features sold as monthly add-ons.

PT Distinction pricing page with Basic, Pro and Master plans
PT Distinction's pricing page in October 2026.

PT Distinction publishes three plans, billed monthly in US dollars, with no annual discount shown:

  • Basic, $19.90 a month: 3 clients included; each extra client costs $6.00 a month after one free month. Includes the full feature list (AI Program Builder, AI Assistant, nutrition coaching, scheduled email and SMS, automated workflows, selling packages and taking payments). Clients use the PT Distinction-branded app.
  • Pro, $59.90 a month: 25 clients included; extra clients $2.40 each. Adds your own custom-branded Android and iOS apps and website integration.
  • Master, $89.90 a month: 50 clients included; extra clients $1.60 each. Same features as Pro.

The trial is one month: "Cancel at any time in your first month and pay nothing." The pricing page does not say whether a card is required, and it does not list transaction fees.

Trainerize pricing page with Basic, Grow, Pro and Studio Plus plans
Trainerize's pricing page in October 2026.

Trainerize's page is harder to read, because it contradicts itself in places. The plan cards show annual-billing prices ($9, $23 and $248 a month), while the FAQ quotes monthly starting prices ($10, $25 and $275). As listed in October 2026:

  • Basic, free: 1 client, mobile app, workouts, basic messaging, habit and lifestyle coaching.
  • Grow, $10 a month ($9 billed annually): 2 clients, AI Workout Builder, custom programs, meal and macro tracking, a Trainerize.me profile, app and wearable integrations.
  • Pro, from $25 a month ($23 annually) for 5 clients: custom exercise videos, welcome emails, consultation forms, advanced messaging and challenges. Pro also comes in 15, 30, 50, 75, 100 and 200 client tiers, but those prices are no longer printed on the page.
  • Studio Plus, from $275 a month ($248 annually): 500 members and up, five or more locations, group video calls, recipes and meals, referral links, prospect booking, onboarding, API access, all add-ons and a studio-level branded app.

The add-ons are where Trainerize's real cost lives. Advanced Nutrition Coaching is $20 a month on Grow, Pro 5 and Pro 15, and $45 a month on Pro 30 to 200. The Business add-on (scheduling, referrals, selling products, premium content) is $25 a month. Video Coaching is $10 a month. Stripe Integrated Payments is $10 a month. A custom branded app is a $169 one-time setup on Pro, and FitMetrics starts at $6 per client. Trainerize offers a 30-day free trial with unlimited clients and no credit card, after which the account drops to the free 1-client plan; add-ons are not included in the trial. Our full Trainerize pricing breakdown goes tier by tier.

The table below compares monthly cost by client count. PT Distinction figures use the cheapest plan for that count, after the first free month of overage. Trainerize Pro prices above 5 clients come from the vendor's page as we recorded it in September 2026 (Pro 15 at $50, Pro 30 at $79, Pro 50 at $135), because the October 2026 page no longer prints them. Trainerize figures are the base tier only, before add-ons.

Tool5 clients15 clients30 clients50 clients
CoachfulLite: $29/month for up to 5 clientsSolo: $49/month for up to 20 clientsPro: $99/month with unlimited clientsPro: $99/month with unlimited clients
PT Distinction$31.90 (Basic + 2 extra)$59.90 (Pro)$71.90 (Pro + 5 extra)$89.90 (Master)
Trainerize, base only$25 (Pro 5)$50 (Pro 15)$79 (Pro 30)$135 (Pro 50)

Base price is only half the story. To match what PT Distinction lists in every plan (nutrition coaching, selling packages, taking payments), a Trainerize coach needs at least the Stripe Integrated Payments add-on and usually the Advanced Nutrition and Business add-ons. Here is that fuller picture, as an example built from the listed prices:

Example: 30 clients, payments, scheduling, advanced nutritionMonthly costWhat is still missing
CoachfulPro: $99/month with unlimited clientsWearable sync, stock exercise videos, own App Store listing
PT Distinction Pro$71.90Booking, courses, community and website builder are not shown on the pricing page
Trainerize Pro 30 + Stripe ($10) + Business ($25) + Advanced Nutrition ($45)$159 (base price from September 2026)Branded app ($169 setup), video calls ($10/mo), courses, website

For coaches with 15 or more clients who need payments, PT Distinction usually works out cheaper. For one or two clients, or a trainer who only needs workouts and messaging, Trainerize is cheaper. Check both pricing pages on the day you sign up, since both vendors change tiers.

How do workouts and programming compare?

Both tools are built around workout programming, and both now advertise AI help building programs. PT Distinction lists an AI Program Builder on every plan; Trainerize lists an AI Workout Builder from the Grow plan.

Trainerize's free Basic plan includes workouts, and custom programs start at Grow. Custom exercise videos (filming your own demos and attaching them) are listed from the Pro plan. Challenges are also a Pro feature.

PT Distinction's pricing page puts the AI Program Builder and AI Assistant on every plan, including Basic. There is no feature gating between plans except the branded app and website integration: Pro and Master are mostly about client capacity. That makes PT Distinction easier to plan around, because you do not have to remember which tier unlocks challenges or exercise videos.

Neither pricing page documents a course builder. If you want to sell a self-paced strength program as a course with modules and lessons, alongside 1:1 training, you will need a second tool with either of them. Our Trainerize review covers its programming workflow in more depth.

How do nutrition coaching features compare?

PT Distinction includes nutrition coaching in every plan. Trainerize splits nutrition into basic meal and macro tracking (from Grow) and a paid Advanced Nutrition Coaching add-on.

That split is the most common surprise for trainers moving onto Trainerize. The add-on costs $20 a month on Grow, Pro 5 and Pro 15, and $45 a month on Pro 30 and above. Recipes and meals are listed as part of Studio Plus. If nutrition is central to your offer, budget for the add-on from the start rather than discovering it once clients are enrolled.

PT Distinction does not price nutrition separately, which makes it the simpler choice for trainers who coach both training and eating. Its pricing page does not go into the depth of the nutrition tools (meal plans, recipe libraries, food logging), so test the specific workflow you use during the free month. For coaches whose work is mostly nutrition, our list of Trainerize alternatives for nutrition coaches goes wider.

A scope note that applies to every tool here: fitness and nutrition coaching is not medical treatment. Coaching software is not a clinical record system, and none of these tools should hold diagnoses or treatment plans. Ask new clients to get clearance from a doctor before starting if they report chest pain or dizziness during exercise, a heart condition, uncontrolled blood pressure, diabetes on medication, pregnancy, a recent injury or surgery, or a history of disordered eating, and refer out when a client's needs move beyond coaching.

Which handles check-ins, habits and automations better?

PT Distinction lists automated workflows and scheduled email and SMS on every plan. Trainerize offers habit and lifestyle coaching from the free plan, with welcome emails, consultation forms and advanced messaging from Pro.

Automations are what make a 30-client roster manageable: the welcome message, the Sunday check-in form, the nudge to a client who has not logged a workout in four days. PT Distinction's approach is to give every plan the same automation toolkit, which suits a trainer who plans to grow from 3 to 50 clients without changing how they work.

Trainerize puts habit coaching in front of everyone, including free users, which is a real strength for coaches whose method leans on daily behaviour change. Its automation features are spread across tiers, so check which of your planned sequences need Pro before you build them on Grow.

Both tools focus on fitness check-ins. If your clients also need morning and evening reflections, weekly goals with progress bars or multi-week journeys that mix mindset and training, look at how each tool handles non-workout tasks during the trial.

Can you take payments and book sessions in each?

PT Distinction lists selling packages and taking payments in every plan. Trainerize needs the $10 Stripe Integrated Payments add-on for in-app payments, and puts scheduling and product sales in the $25 Business add-on.

Neither pricing page lists transaction fees. On Trainerize, Stripe's own processing fees apply on top of the add-on, according to the vendor page as we recorded it in September 2026. PT Distinction does not state its payment processor on the pricing page, so ask which processor it uses and whether it supports your country before you sign up.

Booking is the other gap. Trainerize's Business add-on covers scheduling, and Studio Plus includes prospect booking. PT Distinction's pricing page does not list a booking calendar for paid sessions; its scheduled email and SMS feature is about messaging rather than session booking. If you sell 1:1 calls, consultations or small-group sessions, test this first, or plan to pair either tool with a separate scheduler.

What does the client experience look like in each app?

On PT Distinction Basic and Trainerize below the branded-app setup, clients download the vendor's app. PT Distinction Pro and Master give you your own custom-branded iOS and Android apps; Trainerize charges a $169 one-time setup for that on Pro.

For many trainers the branded app is the deciding feature. A client who downloads an app with your name and logo feels they bought your program, not a software subscription. PT Distinction includes that from $59.90 a month. Trainerize reaches a similar result with a one-time fee on Pro, and includes a studio-level branded app in Studio Plus.

Trainerize's advantage on the client side is integrations: from Grow, clients can connect apps and wearables, which suits clients who already track steps, sleep or heart rate. Trainerize also lists a Trainerize.me profile from Grow.

Data portability is worth checking before you commit, because your client history is the hardest thing to move. Trainerize offers a client data export, but as we recorded in September 2026 it excluded messages, photos and attachments. PT Distinction's pages do not document data export. Ask both vendors what you can take with you, in which format, before you invest a year of client records. Our guide on how to migrate from Trainerize without losing a client walks through the export step by step.

Is there a third option? Where Coachful beats both, and where it does not

Yes. Coachful is a coaching platform where one subscription covers booking, payments, contracts, program delivery with habits and check-ins, courses, a community, a website with funnels and email, and an AI assistant. It beats both tools when you sell more than workouts, and it loses to them in a few specific places listed below.

Coachful's client program view and check-in flows on a laptop and tablet in a training studio
Coachful's client Programs view and coaching flows library on a laptop and tablet beside a pair of dumbbells.

What Coachful is. One login for the coach and one branded app for the client, covering the whole client journey from the first website visit to the last check-in. It is built for coaches who deliver programs, not just sessions, for solo coaches growing into a small team, and for coaches replacing four to six tools. The company is based in Tallinn, Estonia, and showed a Trustpilot score of 4.5 from 21 reviews in October 2026.

Who it is for. Fitness and nutrition coaches who also run group programs, sell a course, host a community, take paid calls or need a website that sells. If you are a strength coach whose whole business is a training app, PT Distinction or Trainerize may serve you well. If your business looks more like "12-week transformation program, weekly group call, a course, and a community", you would be stitching three or four tools together around either of them.

Where Coachful beats both:

  • Training and nutrition in the same place as everything else. The Fitness & Nutrition pack includes a workout builder with an illustrated exercise library (supersets, circuits, AMRAP, EMOM, intervals, tempo), client workout logging with set history and personal records, nutrition targets down to calories and macros, meal plans, recipes, food lookup and barcode scanning, private progress photos and measurements, weekly check-ins, private form-check video with timestamped coach comments, and challenges.
  • Programs beyond workouts. Multi-week programs with weekly goals, daily tasks, habits, morning and evening check-ins, goals with progress bars and streaks. Cohort groups are created automatically when someone enrolls.
  • Booking built in. Booking pages with availability rules, buffers, minimum notice and time-zone detection; two-way Google, Apple and Outlook calendar sync; built-in video or auto-created Zoom, Meet or Teams links; paid sessions and session credits; intake questions on booking.
  • Payments through your own account. Stripe Connect or Razorpay, with one-time payments, subscriptions, payment plans, order bumps, coupons, refunds, Apple Pay and Google Pay. Coachful takes a 0% platform fee; you pay only the processor's fees.
  • Contracts. Coaching agreements with e-signature, sent before the first call and stored on the client record.
  • Courses, community and website. A course builder with drip and completion tracking, a community feed with group chat and video events, and a section-based website builder with funnels, a blog, a custom domain and email sequences.
  • An AI assistant that knows your practice. Michelle works from your live client data: she drafts programs and emails, summarises recorded sessions and briefs you before each call.

What Coachful does not do. This is where PT Distinction or Trainerize can be the better pick:

  • No wearable sync. Coachful does not sync with Garmin, Fitbit, Whoop or Oura, and Apple Health sync is not publicly available. Trainerize lists wearable integrations from Grow.
  • No stock exercise videos. The exercise library is illustrated; you attach your own demo videos.
  • No app under your own App Store account. Clients use the Coachful app with your branding. PT Distinction Pro gives you your own custom-branded iOS and Android apps.
  • No free plan. There is a free trial, but no permanent free tier. Trainerize's free plan is better if you have a single client.
  • Not HIPAA-certified. No BAA, so clinical records and insurance billing belong in a clinical system.
  • No PayPal. Payments run through Stripe or Razorpay only.
  • Not a studio management system. For multiple physical locations and class check-in, Trainerize Studio Plus or dedicated studio software fits better.

How the price compares. Coachful uses flat monthly plans. Lower plans cap the number of clients, Pro is unlimited, and team plans add coach seats. Booking, payments, contracts and video sessions are included in your Coachful membership rather than sold as add-ons (current plans: Lite: $29/month for up to 5 clients; Solo: $49/month for up to 20 clients; Pro: $99/month with unlimited clients; Studio: $199/month with unlimited clients). For a coach with unlimited clients, the relevant plan is Pro: $99/month with unlimited clients. When you compare, add up the training app plus the scheduler, website builder, course platform, email tool and community you would otherwise pay for alongside it.

Why Coachful stands out: a free white-glove service. On every plan, you can ask the Coachful team to build things for you inside your own account: a website, a funnel, a sales page, a program, a course outline and written material, an email sequence, a form, a lead quiz or a link in bio. You describe what you want from Create, attach up to 8 reference links and up to 10 files (logos, photos, brand guides, copy), and the team usually builds it within about 24 hours. Nothing gets invented: no fake credentials, testimonials or prices, and gaps are left for you to fill. It does not include recording videos, logo design, ad management or ongoing marketing. One recent example: a real-estate and money coach got a year-long cohort program with an application form, an eight-page site and a free nine-day bootcamp funnel. More detail is in our guide to the free white-glove build service.

How do you switch between these tools without losing clients?

Export first, announce second, move clients in batches. Whichever direction you move, the order of operations matters more than the tool.

  1. Export everything you can. Client list, programs, check-in history and payment records. On Trainerize, note that the export recorded in September 2026 did not include messages, photos or attachments, so save the progress photos and key conversations you need separately.
  2. Rebuild one program before you invite anyone. Move your most popular program first and run it yourself for a week.
  3. Move payments last. Subscriptions tied to one processor account do not always transfer. Let current billing cycles finish where possible, and set up new subscriptions in the new tool.
  4. Tell clients what changes for them. A short message: new app name, when to download it, what stays the same.
  5. Overlap for one billing cycle. Keep the old tool for a month so nothing is lost if a client misses the switch.

Frequently asked questions

Is PT Distinction cheaper than Trainerize?

At 1 or 2 clients, no: Trainerize is free for 1 client and $10 a month for 2. From around 15 clients, PT Distinction is usually cheaper once you add the Trainerize add-ons for payments, scheduling and advanced nutrition. PT Distinction Pro is $59.90 a month for 25 clients with nutrition, automations and payments included.

Does PT Distinction have a free plan?

No. PT Distinction offers a one-month free trial, and you can cancel in that first month and pay nothing. After that, plans start at $19.90 a month for 3 clients.

Which one gives me a branded app?

PT Distinction includes your own custom-branded iOS and Android apps on Pro ($59.90 a month) and Master. Trainerize charges a $169 one-time setup for a custom branded app on Pro and includes a studio-level branded app in Studio Plus. On Basic plans, both use the vendor's own app.

Does Trainerize charge extra for nutrition coaching?

Partly. Meal and macro tracking is included from Grow, but Advanced Nutrition Coaching is a separate add-on at $20 a month on Grow, Pro 5 and Pro 15, and $45 a month on Pro 30 and above, as listed in October 2026.

Can I take payments in PT Distinction and Trainerize?

PT Distinction lists selling packages and taking payments on every plan. Trainerize needs the Stripe Integrated Payments add-on at $10 a month, and selling products sits in the $25 Business add-on. Neither pricing page lists a transaction fee, but card processing fees apply.

Which has better reviews?

In October 2026, PT Distinction showed 4.8 on Trustpilot from 297 reviews and Trainerize showed 3.1 from 100 reviews. Read the most recent reviews of each, since scores reflect support and billing experiences as much as features.

Do PT Distinction or Trainerize include courses, a community or a website?

Neither pricing page documents a course builder, a community space or a website and funnel builder. PT Distinction Pro lists website integration, which connects to a site you already have. Coaches who need those usually pair the training app with other tools, or use an all-in-one platform such as Coachful.

When is Coachful a better choice than both?

When your business includes more than workouts: paid sessions, group programs, a course, a community, contracts, or a website and funnels. Coachful puts all of that under one login, with a Fitness & Nutrition pack for training and macros. It is the wrong choice if you need wearable sync, stock exercise videos or an app under your own App Store account.

What is Coachful's free white-glove service?

It is a build service included on every Coachful plan. You describe a website, funnel, program, course outline, email sequence or form you want, attach references, and the Coachful team builds it inside your account, usually within about 24 hours. It does not include video recording, logo design or ad management.

Is fitness coaching software suitable for medical or rehab clients?

Not for clinical care. Coaching is not treatment, and none of these tools is a clinical record system; Coachful, for example, is not HIPAA-certified. Clients with heart conditions, recent injuries, pregnancy complications or other red flags should get medical clearance first, and their clinical records belong with their healthcare provider.
