Squarespace vs Wix for Coaches: An Honest 2026 Comparison

Squarespace vs Wix, for a coach, comes down to this: Squarespace gives you the more polished design out of the box but charges extra for booking (through Acuity Scheduling) and takes a cut of course and membership sales on its lower plans, while Wix includes booking from its Core plan, has a free tier, and gives you more apps to bolt on, at the cost of a busier editor and a site you cannot move elsewhere. Neither one runs the coaching itself. If you sell sessions and want a beautiful brochure site, pick Squarespace. If you want booking, packages and a members area on one bill, pick Wix.
We make Coachful, a coaching platform, so we have a stake in this question. We will give both builders a fair hearing first, using what Squarespace and Wix publish on their own pricing and help pages as listed in October 2026, then explain where a platform built for coaching beats both and where it does not.
Squarespace vs Wix: which is better for coaches?
Squarespace is better for coaches whose website is mostly a shop window; Wix is better for coaches who want booking and paid packages inside the site without a second subscription. Here is the short answer by use case.
- You want the best-looking site with the least design effort: Squarespace. Its templates are tightly designed, and it is hard to make a Squarespace site look messy.
- You need online booking on a budget: Wix. Wix Bookings ("Scheduling and services") is included from the Core plan. On Squarespace, booking is Acuity Scheduling, a separate subscription.
- You sell session packages or memberships: Wix, through its Pricing Plans app, with no Wix commission listed. Squarespace can sell memberships too, but adds a 7% (Basic), 5% (Core) or 1% (Plus) fee on digital content and memberships before card processing.
- You want to start for nothing: Wix has a free plan with Wix branding and no custom domain. Squarespace has no free plan, only a 14-day free trial with no credit card.
- You may want to move later: Squarespace, narrowly. It exports pages and one blog as a WordPress-format file. Wix says sites cannot be transferred to other platforms and blog posts cannot be exported.
- You run multi-week programs with habits, check-ins and between-session support: neither. Both are website builders first, and neither lists habit tracking or structured client check-ins. That is where a coaching platform such as Coachful fits, which we cover near the end.
If you have already decided neither builder is right, our guides to Squarespace alternatives for coaches and Wix alternatives for coaches go wider.
How do Squarespace and Wix compare side by side?
On paper they look similar: both are hosted, drag-and-drop website builders with templates, a store, email add-ons and a contacts list. The differences show up in what you pay extra for and what your clients see after they buy.
Ranked for coaches on: one login for the whole client journey, between-session delivery, total stack cost, and setup effort (including a free white-glove build).

Squarespace positions itself as a website builder with selling built in, and its Core plan carries the tagline "Start selling with a foundation for service businesses." That is the plan most coaches end up on, because Basic lacks discounts, payment plans, pop-ups and the Mailchimp and Zapier integrations.

Wix is the more modular of the two. The site is the base, and coaching features arrive as Wix apps you add: Bookings, Pricing Plans, Online Programs, Members Area and Email Marketing. Selling through any of them needs a Premium plan that accepts payments, which means Core or higher.
How much do Squarespace and Wix cost a coach?
For a coach who needs booking, Wix Core is the cheaper starting point at $29 a month billed annually, because booking is included. Squarespace Core is the same $29 a month billed annually, but adding Acuity Scheduling pushes the real figure to about $45 to $56 a month.
Plan prices first. Squarespace figures are from its US pricing page (squarespace.com/pricing) as listed in October 2026; prices are localized, so visitors in Europe or Canada see euros or Canadian dollars. Wix's annual figures come from Wix's own Premium Plans article, which says paid plans "currently range from $17 to $159 per month when billed annually." Wix's plans page also localizes prices, and we did not find monthly-billing prices on an official Wix page.
| Plan | Billed annually (per month) | Billed monthly | What matters for coaches |
|---|---|---|---|
| Coachful | Lite: $29/month for up to 5 clients; Solo: $49/month for up to 20 clients; Pro: $99/month with unlimited clients; Studio: $199/month with unlimited clients | Flat plans; lower plans cap clients, Pro is unlimited; booking, payments, programs, email and website included | |
| Squarespace Basic | $19 ($228/yr) | $25 | 2% store fee, 7% on courses and memberships, no discounts or payment plans |
| Squarespace Core | $29 ($348/yr) | $39 | 0% store fee, 5% on courses and memberships, payment plans, Mailchimp and Zapier |
| Squarespace Plus | $49 ($588/yr) | $65 | 1% on courses and memberships, card rate 2.7% + $0.30 |
| Squarespace Advanced | $99 ($1,188/yr) | $139 | 0% on courses and memberships, card rate 2.5% + $0.30 |
| Wix Free | $0 | $0 | Wix branding, no custom domain, 200 marketing emails a month |
| Wix Light | $17 ($204/yr) | Not listed officially | Custom domain, but cannot accept payments |
| Wix Core | $29 ($348/yr) | Not listed officially | Payments, Wix Bookings, basic marketing suite, 50 GB |
| Wix Business | $39 ($468/yr) | Not listed officially | Standard eCommerce and marketing suite, 100 GB |
| Wix Business Elite | $159 ($1,908/yr) | Not listed officially | Advanced eCommerce and developer platform |

A note on Squarespace's prices: many third-party guides still quote older annual figures ($16, $23, $39 and $99). The official page as listed in October 2026 shows $19, $29, $49 and $99 billed annually. The page says paying annually saves "up to 36%," but on these numbers the saving works out to 24% to 29%.
What does the full coaching stack cost?
The plan is rarely the whole bill. A typical solo coach needs a site, booking, a way to sell packages, and email. Here is what that looks like on each, billed annually, using only listed prices. Email add-on tiers for Squarespace were not published in a form we could capture, so they are left as "extra."
| Stack (billed annually) | Site plan | Booking | Per month before add-ons | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Coachful (one plan, up to 15 clients) | Included | Included | Included | Solo: $49/month for up to 20 clients |
| Squarespace Core + Acuity Starter (1 calendar) | $29 | $16 | Email Campaigns extra | $45 |
| Squarespace Core + Acuity Standard (packages, text reminders) | $29 | $27 | Email Campaigns extra | $56 |
| Wix Core with Bookings | $29 | Included | Quota depends on plan | $29 |
| Wix Business with Bookings | $39 | Included | Larger marketing suite | $39 |
Then add transaction costs. An illustrative example: you sell a $1,000 group program as a membership on Squarespace Core. Squarespace's 5% digital content fee is $50, and card processing at 2.9% + $0.30 is $29.30, so about $79 of that sale goes to fees. Sold as a service product in the Squarespace store on Core, the platform fee drops to 0% and you pay only the $29.30 processing. On Wix, with no listed Wix commission, the same sale through Wix Payments costs the $29.30 processing. These are worked examples, not quotes, and Squarespace adds a 1.5% surcharge for international cards.
For deeper pricing breakdowns of tools coaches often pair with these builders, see our Calendly pricing and Kajabi pricing guides.
Which is better for booking coaching sessions?
Wix is better value for booking, because Wix Bookings is part of Core and above; Squarespace's booking is Acuity Scheduling, which is more capable but costs extra. Acuity's own plans are Starter at $16 a month billed annually (one calendar), Standard at $27 (up to six calendars, text reminders, waitlist, packages, memberships and gift certificates) and Premium at $55 (up to 36 calendars, removes "Powered by Acuity", and offers a HIPAA BAA).
Acuity is a mature scheduler. It adds intake forms to bookings, sends reminders and sells packages, and Squarespace places it on your site with the Scheduling block. The catch is that it is a second account with its own payment setup: Acuity connects its own Stripe, Square or PayPal account separately from your Squarespace store. Your bookings and your store sales live in two places.
Wix Bookings handles one-to-one appointments and classes with online payment, and the Pricing Plans app sells session packages and subscriptions that can include bookings. Everything stays in the Wix dashboard. What Wix does not list is the coaching layer around a booking: a client record with goals, notes and check-ins tied to each session.
If scheduling is the main job, our scheduling software for coaches page shows what a coaching-specific booking flow includes, such as intake questions on booking, buffers, minimum notice and auto-created Zoom, Meet or Teams links.
Which handles payments, packages and courses better?
Wix is simpler for packages and memberships because it lists no platform commission; Squarespace is stronger on invoicing and payment plans but taxes digital content on every plan below Advanced. Both use their own payment processor by default.
Squarespace payments
Squarespace Payments takes cards, Apple Pay, Klarna, Afterpay and ACH in the US, UK and several European countries; Stripe and PayPal also work for the online store. Every plan includes invoices and pay links with no invoice fee, which suits coaches who bill retainers or corporate clients. Core and above add discounts and payment plans (deposits and installments), which matter if you sell a higher-ticket program. Courses, memberships and subscriptions are native, but the digital content fee (7% Basic, 5% Core, 1% Plus, 0% Advanced) sits on top of card processing.
Wix payments
Wix Payments processes cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, Klarna and Affirm. In the US, Wix's help center lists 2.9% + $0.30 per online card transaction, PayPal through Wix Payments from 3.49% + $0.49, Klarna and Affirm at 6% + $0.30, and a $15 chargeback fee. The Online Programs app runs step-by-step courses, programs and challenges, and paid programs need a payment-enabled plan. Remember that Light, the cheapest paid Wix plan, cannot accept payments at all.
Neither builder includes coaching agreements with e-signature, a step most coaches want before the first paid call. On both you would add a separate e-signature tool. Our coaching contracts page explains how that can be part of booking instead, and coaching payment software covers payment plans, coupons and refunds in one place.
Which is easier to design with?
Squarespace is easier to make look good; Wix gives more freedom to place elements anywhere, which helps confident designers and trips up everyone else.
Squarespace templates are structured, so spacing and typography stay consistent as you edit. That constraint is the point: a coach with no design background can produce a calm, credible site in an afternoon. Squarespace also includes SEO settings, mobile-optimized templates, a blog and a free custom domain for the first year on annual billing. Core and above add code injection and promotional pop-ups.
Wix's editor is drag-and-drop with more freedom, plus a much larger app market. The trade-off is that a free-form canvas also makes it easier to end up with a cluttered page, so check every page in mobile view before publishing. Wix also includes a free domain voucher for a year on yearly Premium plans.
For blogging and SEO, both are adequate for a coach publishing a few articles a month. Neither is the reason a coaching site ranks or fails; your content is. What matters more for a coach is what the buttons on the site lead to, which brings us to email and clients.
Email marketing and client records: which keeps you organized?
Wix has the edge on email because Wix Email Marketing and automations are built in with a monthly send quota per plan; Squarespace's Email Campaigns is a separate subscription. For client records, both offer a contacts list rather than a coaching record.
Squarespace's Contacts panel stores subscribers, customers, members, donors and form submitters with segments. Its Email Campaigns add-on is priced by monthly sends, from 500 to 500,000 emails a month with unlimited contacts. Without a paid tier you can build lists, write drafts and send up to three trial campaigns.
Wix has a Contacts CRM with segments plus Email Marketing and automations. Free sites get 200 emails a month, and campaigns and automated emails both count toward the quota, which rises with the plan.
Neither stores what a coach actually needs to see before a session: the client's goals, last check-in, habits, session notes and intake answers in one record. That is the gap that drives coaches to add a CRM; see coaching CRM for what that record looks like.
What do your clients experience after they buy?
On Squarespace, clients get a customer account and, if you sell memberships, a members area on your website; no client app is listed. On Wix, clients can use the Spaces by Wix member app to book, join groups and chat, and a branded native app is a separate paid option.
Picture a client three weeks into a 12-week program. On Squarespace, they log into your site for course pages, into Acuity (or its emails) for bookings, and into whatever you use for messages and accountability. On Wix, more of that lives in one member area and the Spaces app, which is a real advantage. On both, daily habits, morning and evening check-ins, and progress toward goals would need forms, program steps or third-party apps; Wix's own documentation does not list habit tracking or structured check-ins.

This is the question that matters most for coaches who sell outcomes rather than hours. A website gets someone to buy. What happens between sessions decides whether they finish, renew and refer. Our group coaching software page goes deeper on cohort delivery.
Can you move your site off Squarespace or Wix later?
You can partly move off Squarespace; you largely cannot move a Wix site. That matters if there is any chance you will outgrow your builder.
Squarespace exports site content only as a WordPress-format XML file: layout pages, one blog with posts and comments, text and image blocks, and gallery pages. Store pages, products, audio and video blocks, drafts, style settings and custom CSS are not exported, and trial sites cannot be exported at all. Contacts, mailing lists, customers and form submissions export to CSV.
Wix says sites cannot be transferred to other platforms and blog posts cannot be exported. Contacts export to CSV (up to 50,000 at a time), CMS collections and store products export to CSV, and booking reports export from the booking calendar. Everything else you rebuild.
If you are already planning a move, our step-by-step guide on moving a coaching website off Kajabi, Wix or Squarespace covers redirects, domains and email lists.
Which should you pick for your type of coaching?
Match the tool to how you deliver, not to which builder your friend uses. Here is how we would decide.
| Your situation | Best fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Coachful: you run programs, cohorts or ongoing 1:1 with between-session support | Coachful | Website, booking, payments, contracts, programs, habits, check-ins and a branded client app in one login |
| Executive or business coach selling a few high-value engagements by referral | Squarespace | Polished site, invoices and pay links on every plan; booking can stay simple |
| New coach testing an idea with no budget | Wix Free, then Core | Free plan to draft; Core adds payments and Bookings |
| Coach selling session packages and simple memberships | Wix Core or Business | Bookings and Pricing Plans included, no listed Wix commission |
| Coach with a portfolio or speaking-heavy brand | Squarespace | Stronger default design; gallery and video pages |
| Coach selling self-paced courses at volume | Neither by default | Squarespace takes 5% on Core; consider an online course platform for coaches |
One honest caveat for both: the bill grows with every app you add, and so does the number of logins your client has. A coach on Squarespace plus Acuity plus Email Campaigns plus a messaging tool plus an e-signature tool is running five systems. That is the point at which a coaching platform starts to look cheaper, not more expensive.
Is there a third option? When Coachful beats both, and when it does not
Yes. If your website exists mainly to book and sell coaching, a coaching platform with a built-in website will usually serve you better than either builder. Coachful is one such platform; it is the one we make, so weigh this section accordingly.
What Coachful is and who it is for
Coachful is a coaching platform. One subscription covers booking, payments, coaching agreements, program delivery with habits and check-ins, courses, a community, a website with funnels and email, and an AI assistant, with one login for the coach and one branded app for the client. It is built for coaches who deliver programs, not just sessions, for solo coaches growing into a small team, and for coaches replacing four to six tools.
Here is a short walkthrough of the Coachful website builder:

The website builder is section-based, with a blog, custom domain, SEO settings, 30 designed homepage templates and an Import website option. Booking, application, lead-magnet and checkout funnels support pixels and UTM tracking, and there is a link-in-bio page that sells. See the coach website builder for details.

Where Coachful beats both Squarespace and Wix
- Booking without a second subscription. Booking pages with availability rules, buffers, minimum notice and time-zone detection; two-way Google, Apple/iCloud and Outlook calendar sync; built-in video or auto-created Zoom, Meet or Teams links; email reminders plus SMS and WhatsApp reminders once messaging is enabled; paid sessions, session credits and intake questions on booking.
- No platform fee on sales. Payments run through your own Stripe Connect or Razorpay account, with a 0% Coachful platform fee since August 2026. One-time payments, subscriptions, payment plans, order bumps, coupons, refunds, Apple Pay, Google Pay and Stripe Tax are supported, plus invoices per transaction and manual invoices.
- Agreements before the first call. Coaching agreements with e-signature are sent before the first session and stored on the client record.
- Delivery between sessions. Multi-week programs with weekly goals, daily tasks, habits, morning and evening check-ins, goals with progress bars and streaks. Neither builder lists these.
- A real client record. Goals, check-ins, habits, notes, intake answers, tags, payments, sessions and an AI briefing per client, with a status of thriving, active, quiet or at risk.
- One place for the client. Courses, downloads, community, group chat, direct messages and video events, all inside the client's branded home and app.

Michelle, the built-in AI assistant, works from your live practice data: it can build programs, draft emails, summarize recorded sessions and brief you before a session. Questions and planning are included in your Coachful membership; confirmed builds and changes use AI credits. Coaches pursuing ICF credentials also get ICF hour tracking against ACC, PCC and MCC thresholds, with an exportable client coaching log.

On cost, compare the stacks above. Coachful's flat plans include booking, email and the website (current plans: Lite: $29/month for up to 5 clients; Solo: $49/month for up to 20 clients; Pro: $99/month with unlimited clients; Studio: $199/month with unlimited clients), and team plans add coach seats. Monthly plans cancel in one click. Leaving is easier too: a full client data export as a ZIP (roster, notes, check-ins, goals, habits, sessions, form responses) plus course export.
Why Coachful stands out: a free white-glove service. On every plan, you can ask the Coachful team to build something for you from Create, under "We'll build it for you." Describe what you want (a website, funnel, sales page, program, course outline, email sequence, form, link in bio, webinar and more), attach up to 8 reference links and up to 10 files such as your logo, photos and existing copy, and the team builds it inside your own account, usually within about 24 hours. Nothing is invented: no fake credentials, testimonials or prices, and gaps are left for you to fill. It does not include recording videos, logo design, ad management or ongoing marketing. One recent example: a leadership coach with a Squarespace renewal days away got one clean homepage with a repeated "talk with me" button. Read more in our white-glove service guide.

When Squarespace or Wix is the better choice
Coachful is not the right answer for everyone, and you should know where it falls short.
- You need a general website, not a coaching business site. Coachful is not a general website builder for non-coaching sites and has no third-party plugins. A restaurant, portfolio or shop on the side belongs on Squarespace or Wix.
- You want a permanent free plan. Wix has one; Coachful does not, though a free trial exists.
- You take PayPal. Coachful does not support PayPal. Wix Payments and Squarespace both do.
- You need HIPAA coverage. Coachful is not HIPAA-certified and offers no BAA. Acuity Premium, used with Squarespace, lists a HIPAA BAA. Clinical records belong in a clinical system either way.
- You want your own App Store listing. Coachful's client app ships under the Coachful listing with your branding. Wix offers a separately priced branded native app.
- You sell a course marketplace or rely on an app ecosystem. Coachful is not a course marketplace, and Wix's app market is far larger.
How to start
Start a free trial, then request the free white-glove build for your website or first program. Clients, programs and content are imported for you during onboarding, so you are not copying pages by hand. If you are new to coaching, the Coachful for new coaches page shows a simple first setup; life coaches can start from Coachful for life coaches, and our comparisons hub covers other tools.
Squarespace vs Wix FAQ
Is Squarespace or Wix better for a life coach?
For a life coach who mainly needs a credible site and a booking button, Wix Core is the better value because Bookings is included. Squarespace looks more polished by default but needs Acuity Scheduling for booking. If you run programs with check-ins between sessions, a coaching platform fits better than either.
Does Squarespace have built-in booking?
Not in the website plans themselves. Booking on Squarespace is Acuity Scheduling, a Squarespace-owned scheduler sold as a separate subscription from $16 a month billed annually, added to your site with the Scheduling block.
Does Wix charge transaction fees?
Wix lists no platform commission on sales on its plans page. You still pay payment processing; in the US, Wix Payments lists 2.9% + $0.30 per online card transaction, according to Wix's help center in October 2026.
Does Squarespace charge transaction fees?
Yes, on some sales. The online store fee is 2% on Basic and 0% on Core and above. Courses, memberships and paid content carry a fee of 7% on Basic, 5% on Core, 1% on Plus and 0% on Advanced, on top of card processing.
Is Wix really free?
Wix has a free plan with hosting and templates, but it shows Wix branding, does not allow a custom domain and limits you to 200 marketing emails a month. To take payments you need Core or higher, because Light cannot accept payments.
Can I switch from Wix to Squarespace later?
Not by exporting your site. Wix says sites cannot be transferred and blog posts cannot be exported, so you would rebuild pages and move contacts and CMS data by CSV. Squarespace's own export is limited to a WordPress-format file of pages and one blog.
Which is cheaper, Squarespace or Wix?
For a coach who needs booking, Wix usually is. Wix Core with Bookings is $29 a month billed annually, while Squarespace Core plus Acuity Starter comes to about $45 a month billed annually, before email add-ons.
What is Coachful's free white-glove service?
It is a build service included on every Coachful plan. You describe what you need, such as a website, funnel or program, attach reference links and files, and the team builds it in your account, usually within about 24 hours. It does not include video recording, logo design, ads or ongoing marketing.
Can Coachful replace my Squarespace or Wix site?
For a coaching business, usually yes: Coachful includes a website builder with a blog, custom domain, SEO settings, templates and an Import website option. If your site also serves an unrelated business or depends on third-party plugins, keep the builder for that and use Coachful for coaching.
Are Squarespace or Wix HIPAA compliant for health coaches?
Neither website plan is described as HIPAA-covered in what we reviewed; Acuity Scheduling's Premium plan lists a HIPAA BAA. Coachful is not HIPAA-certified either. Health coaching is not medical treatment: keep clinical records in a clinical system and refer clients to a doctor or licensed clinician when concerns go beyond coaching.
