HoneyBook Review 2026: Strengths, Limits and Coach Verdict

This HoneyBook review comes down to one finding: HoneyBook is a polished client-management tool for service businesses, built around proposals, contracts, invoices, scheduling and payments, and it does those jobs well. But it stops when the client has paid. HoneyBook has no programs, courses, habits, check-ins or client community, so a coach who delivers multi-week work ends up buying a second and third tool. If you mostly sell one-off sessions or packages and only need the paperwork handled, HoneyBook is a reasonable pick. If your coaching happens between sessions, it is the wrong shape.
We make Coachful, a coaching platform that competes with HoneyBook for coaches' budgets, so read this with that in mind. Every HoneyBook fact below comes from HoneyBook's own pricing page as listed in October 2026, or from public reviews on Trustpilot. We have not run a hands-on test; we report what the vendor documents and what public reviewers say.
HoneyBook review: what is the short verdict?
HoneyBook suits coaches who run a sales and admin process more than a delivery process. It does not suit coaches who sell programs, run groups or need clients to log progress between calls.
- Who it suits: session-based coaches, consultants and coaches who also run a creative or events business, who want proposals, contracts and invoices to look professional and follow up on their own.
- Who should skip it: coaches who deliver multi-week programs, courses, habit tracking, check-ins or a group community, and coaches who want to keep their own Stripe account.
- Public rating: 4.1 out of 5 on Trustpilot from 748 reviews, seen on October 25, 2026.
- Price: from $29 a month billed annually (Starter), with Essentials at $49 and Premium at $109 billed annually, as listed in October 2026.
- Trial: 30 days free, no credit card required, plus a 60-day money-back guarantee.
What is HoneyBook?
HoneyBook is a client-management CRM for independent service businesses. It covers the path from inquiry to paid invoice: lead forms, proposals, contracts with e-signature, invoices, payments, a scheduler, automations and a client portal.
Public reviews show who uses it most: venues, bridal beauty businesses, creatives and freelancers write many of them. For a coach, the features map to the selling side of the business. HoneyBook processes payments itself through HoneyBook Payments (cards and ACH), so you cannot plug in your own Stripe or PayPal account.

HoneyBook also sells financial extras around that processing: instant deposit for a 1% fee, HoneyBook Capital loans for eligible accounts, and a HoneyBook Balance checking account. New accounts get a file setup and onboarding specialist during the first 90 days, as listed in October 2026.
What does HoneyBook do for each part of a coaching business?
HoneyBook is strong on selling and admin, adequate on marketing intake, and absent on delivery. Here is how its listed features map to the five jobs a coaching business has to do.
Marketing: how do leads get in?
HoneyBook's marketing tools are lead forms that feed its pipeline. Starter allows 2 live lead forms, Essentials 10, and Premium unlimited, as listed in October 2026. That is enough for a contact form and an inquiry form on an existing website.
The plan tiers do not list a website builder, landing page funnels, or email broadcasts and nurture sequences, so most coaches pair HoneyBook with a separate site builder and email tool. Honest note: if your marketing already lives elsewhere and works, this is not a problem. If you are starting from nothing, it is two more subscriptions and two more logins.
Selling: proposals, contracts and payments
This is HoneyBook's core. Every plan includes proposals, contracts, invoices and payments, plus templates. Public reviewers repeatedly say this part makes a small business look professional. For a coach selling a 3-month package, a single proposal that bundles the offer, the agreement and the first payment is a clean experience for the client.
Two honest notes. First, the scheduler is not on Starter; it starts at Essentials. Coaches who want people to book discovery calls need the middle plan. Second, payments must run through HoneyBook's own processing, and the fee is shown inconsistently on the pricing page: the FAQ says 2.7% + 10¢ per card payment, while the plan comparison says 2.9% + 25¢. ACH is listed at 1.5%. Check the rate on your own account before you rely on either number.
Delivery: what happens after the client pays?
This is where HoneyBook stops. It has no program builder, no courses, no habit tracking, no morning or evening check-ins, no goals with progress, and no client community. You can share files and documents through the client portal, but the coaching itself has to happen in calls, email, or another tool.
For a coach who meets a client every two weeks and sends notes afterwards, this may be fine. For a coach whose value comes from what clients do between sessions, it means adding a course platform, a community app and a habit tracker, and asking clients to keep track of all of them. Our guide to invoicing coaching clients without HoneyBook walks through how payments and delivery fit together in one place.
Client experience: what does the client see?
Clients see branded proposals, contracts, invoices and a client portal, which Starter now lists. On Starter, client-facing files carry "Powered by HoneyBook"; removing it starts at Essentials. Reviewers often praise how good these files look.
There is a client-side caveat in the public reviews. One October 2026 reviewer who identified as a client (a bride booking a vendor) rated HoneyBook 2 stars and said they were dissatisfied whenever a provider used it. It is one review, but it is a reminder that your clients use the tool too.
Admin: automations, accounting and teams
Automations, QuickBooks Online sync, SMS reminders and standard reports start at Essentials. Premium adds advanced reports, priority support, unlimited team members and multiple companies. Essentials allows up to 2 team members. HoneyBook AI is listed on every plan, starting with Starter.
For data, HoneyBook lets you export contacts and clients to CSV, but smart files and templates are not portable in a reusable format (from our older vendor profile, September 2026). Plan for rebuilding proposals and contracts if you ever leave.
How much does HoneyBook cost in 2026?
HoneyBook costs $29, $49 or $109 a month billed annually for Starter, Essentials and Premium, as listed in October 2026. Monthly billing shows $59 for Essentials and $129 for Premium; Starter's monthly price was not shown on the page (our September 2026 profile listed $36).

The page runs time-limited promotions (25%, 40% or 50% off) and shows the monthly prices struck through as "25% off" references next to the annual price. Prices rose in February 2025, from $19, $39 and $79 to $36, $59 and $129 monthly (September 2026 profile). For a full breakdown, read our HoneyBook pricing guide.
| Plan | Billed annually | Billed monthly | Key limits and additions | Payment fees |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Coachful | Lite: $29/month for up to 5 clients | For 15 clients: Solo: $49/month for up to 20 clients | Flat monthly plans; lower plans cap clients, Pro is unlimited (Pro: $99/month with unlimited clients); team plans add seats; booking, programs, courses, community, website and email included in your Coachful membership | 0% platform fee; only your own Stripe or Razorpay processing |
| HoneyBook Starter | $29/mo | Not shown (older profile: $36) | Unlimited clients and projects; 2 live lead forms; invoices, proposals, contracts, calendar, client portal, basic reports, HoneyBook AI; no scheduler or automations | Card 2.7% + 10¢ (FAQ) or 2.9% + 25¢ (comparison); ACH 1.5% |
| HoneyBook Essentials | $49/mo | $59/mo | Up to 2 team members; 10 lead forms; scheduler, automations, QuickBooks Online, SMS reminders, removes "Powered by HoneyBook" | Same as Starter |
| HoneyBook Premium | $109/mo | $129/mo | Unlimited team members and lead forms; multiple companies; priority support, advanced reports | Same; accounts over $500k a year may qualify for discounted rates |
The real cost for a coach is the stack. A coach on HoneyBook Essentials who also runs a 12-week group program needs somewhere to host the program content, somewhere for the group to talk, and usually a website and email tool. Add those subscriptions to HoneyBook's price and to card processing before you compare it with an all-in-one platform. As an illustrative example only: a coach collecting $4,000 a month by card would pay roughly $108 to $116 in HoneyBook card fees at the two listed rates (2.7% or 2.9%, before the per-transaction amount), on top of the subscription.
What do public reviewers praise and complain about?
On Trustpilot, HoneyBook holds 4.1 out of 5 from 748 reviews (seen October 25, 2026). Most recent reviews are 5 stars and praise ease of use and presentation; the low-star reviews cluster around team usability, workflows and features changing over time.
What reviewers praise
- Looking professional. Several reviewers who describe themselves as new or small business owners say the contract and payment process makes them look established.
- Everything in one place for the paperwork. Reviewers value having contracts, invoices, payments and the client pipeline together.
- Design. People who care about presentation say the files and app are pleasant to look at.
- Support. Several reviewers describe support staff as friendly and willing to stay with a problem until it is solved.
- New features. Some reviewers mention additions they appreciated, such as a floorplan creator (useful to venues more than coaches).
"Novice business owner and this tools helps me to look like a pro with contract and payment processes."
What reviewers complain about
- Team and admin usability. A 2-star reviewer who uses HoneyBook as both admin and team member reports ongoing functionality problems.
- Workflow setup. Another 2-star reviewer reports no success setting up their workflow, and others mention automated workflow links not moving clients forward.
- Features changing. One reviewer disliked that time tracking had been removed; a 1-star reviewer says the software handled less of what they needed over the years and they moved on.
- Scheduling and integrations. Individual reviewers report meetings booked outside availability, missed meeting alerts and gaps in Gmail syncing.
- Fees, refunds and data. A few reviewers raise processing fees, not getting a refund after cancelling, and difficulty exporting client data.
"over the years the software has legitimately handled less and less of what we needed it for."
Notice what reviewers do not talk about: program delivery, client progress or group coaching. That is consistent with what HoneyBook documents. Its reviewers are mostly running bookings and paperwork, not coaching programs. For comparison, Coachful holds 4.5 on Trustpilot from 21 reviews, a much smaller sample; you can read more on our reviews page.
What are HoneyBook's pros and cons?
HoneyBook's strengths are its sales paperwork and its polish; its weaknesses for coaches are missing delivery tools, locked-in payments and the plan gating of scheduling and automations.
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Proposals, contracts, invoices and payments on every plan | No programs, courses, habits, check-ins or community |
| Unlimited clients and projects, even on Starter | Scheduler and automations only from Essentials |
| 30-day trial with no card, plus a 60-day money-back guarantee | Payments only through HoneyBook's own processing; card fee shown two ways on the pricing page |
| Client portal and HoneyBook AI listed from Starter | "Powered by HoneyBook" on Starter files |
| QuickBooks Online sync and SMS reminders on Essentials | Only 2 team members on Essentials; unlimited team needs Premium |
| Onboarding specialist for the first 90 days | Smart files and templates are not portable if you leave |
| Reviewers praise design and support | Reviewers report team usability and workflow problems |
Who is HoneyBook best for, and who should skip it?
HoneyBook is best for service providers whose work is a booked project with a proposal, a contract and an invoice. In coaching, that means a fairly narrow group.
HoneyBook fits if:
- You sell single sessions, VIP days or short packages and deliver everything live.
- You also run a non-coaching service business (photography, events, design) and want one CRM for both.
- Your website, email list and any course content already live in tools you are happy with.
- You price in US dollars and are comfortable with HoneyBook handling your payments.
Skip HoneyBook if:
- You sell multi-week programs where clients have weekly goals, daily tasks or habits.
- You run group coaching, cohorts or a membership community. See our group coaching software page for what that needs.
- You want to keep payouts in your own Stripe account.
- You are tracking hours toward an ICF credential and want that logged automatically (ICF hour tracking).
- You want one login for you and one place for your clients, rather than four or five tools.
What are the best HoneyBook alternatives for coaches?
The best alternative depends on whether you need delivery tools or just a different CRM. We ranked these on four criteria: one login for the whole client journey, between-session delivery, total stack cost, and setup effort.
| Tool | Best for | Starting price (October 2026) | Coaching delivery | Trial |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Coachful | Coaches who deliver programs, groups and courses and want one platform | Lite: $29/month for up to 5 clients | Programs, habits, check-ins, goals, courses, community, AI assistant | A free trial |
| HoneyBook | Session-based coaches and service businesses focused on paperwork | $29/mo billed annually | None | 30 days, no card |
| Dubsado | Coaches who want deep workflow automation for forms and contracts | $35/mo ($27.92/mo billed annually) | None | 21 days of Premier, no card |
| Bonsai | Freelance coaches and consultants who also track time and projects | $15/mo per user ($9/mo billed annually) | None | 7 days, card not required to start |

1. Coachful: best for coaches who deliver programs

Coachful is a coaching platform. One subscription covers booking, payments, contracts, program delivery with habits and check-ins, courses, a community, a website with funnels and email, and an AI assistant. The coach has one login and the client has one branded app. It is built for coaches who deliver programs, not just sessions, for solo coaches growing into a small team, and for coaches replacing 4 to 6 tools. The company is based in Tallinn, Estonia.
What it does not do: Coachful is not HIPAA-certified and does not sign a BAA, so it is not for clinical records or insurance billing. It has no PayPal and no permanent free plan. The client app ships under the Coachful listing with your branding, not under your own App Store account. It has no multi-stage sales deal board for large sales teams and no Salesforce or HubSpot integration. How to start: begin with a free trial, then ask the team to build your setup through the free white-glove build service.

Selling, the part HoneyBook does well. Coachful covers the same ground. Booking pages have availability rules, buffers, minimum notice and time-zone detection, with two-way Google, Apple/iCloud and Outlook calendar sync and built-in video or auto-created Zoom, Meet and Teams links. Intake questions run at booking. Coaching agreements with e-signature go out before the first call and are stored on the client record. Learn more on our coaching contracts and scheduling software pages.

Payments through your own account. Unlike HoneyBook, Coachful runs payments through your own Stripe Connect or Razorpay account: one-time payments, subscriptions, payment plans, order bumps, coupons, refunds, Apple Pay, Google Pay and Stripe Tax. Every transaction gets an invoice, and you can send manual invoices. Since August 2026 Coachful charges a 0% platform fee; you pay only Stripe or Razorpay processing. See coaching payment software for details.

This short walkthrough shows how invoices and payments work inside Coachful:
Delivery, the part HoneyBook skips. Coachful runs multi-week programs with weekly goals, daily tasks, habits, morning and evening check-ins, goals with progress bars and streaks. Courses (modules, lessons, drip, completion tracking), downloads, videos and events land in the client's branded home and app. Cohort groups are created automatically when someone enrolls in a program, with a community feed, group chat, direct messages and video events. More than 40 ready-to-film program templates and 48 course templates with quizzes help you start.

Here is how a program comes together in Coachful:
The client record and AI. Each client record holds goals, check-ins, habits, notes, intake answers, tags, payments, sessions and an AI briefing, with a status of thriving, active, quiet or at risk. Michelle, the built-in AI assistant, works from your live practice data: she builds programs, drafts emails and content, summarizes recorded sessions and briefs you before sessions. Questions and planning are included in your Coachful membership; confirmed builds and changes use AI credits. Coachful also counts coaching hours and distinct clients against ICF ACC, PCC and MCC thresholds.

Marketing in the same login. A section-based website builder with a blog, custom domain, SEO settings and 30 designed homepage templates; booking, application, lead-magnet and checkout funnels with pixels and UTM tracking; and email lists, broadcasts and multi-step sequences with triggers, delays, branching and A/B splits. Those are the tools a HoneyBook coach usually buys separately.

Why Coachful stands out: a free white-glove service. From Create, a coach picks "We'll build it for you" and describes what they want: a website, funnel, sales page, program, course outline, email sequence, form, link in bio and more. You can attach up to 8 reference links and up to 10 files (logos, photos, brand guides, copy). The Coachful team builds it inside your own account, usually within about 24 hours. Nothing gets invented: no fake credentials, testimonials or prices; gaps are left for you to fill. It does not include recording videos, logo design, ad management or ongoing marketing. Recent builds include a somatic coach leaving Kajabi whose homepage and About page were rebuilt with the contact form connected, and a leadership coach with a Squarespace renewal days away who got one clean homepage with a repeated "talk with me" button. Clients, programs and content are also imported for you during onboarding. Read more about the free white-glove build service.

Pick HoneyBook over Coachful if you also run a non-coaching service business on the same CRM, you need a multi-company setup, or you deliver all coaching live and only need proposals and invoices. 2. Dubsado: best for workflow-heavy client onboarding

Dubsado is a client workflow CRM with forms, contracts, invoices, a scheduler and automated workflows. As listed in October 2026, Starter is $35 a month ($27.92 billed annually) with unlimited clients and projects but only 1 active lead-capture form, and no scheduler or automations. Premier is $55 a month ($43.75 billed annually) with unlimited lead forms. The trial gives 21 days of full Premier access with no card. Dubsado states no platform fee; processor rates apply, and optional surcharging can pass card costs to clients.
Dubsado says itself that it does not include website building and is not an email marketing platform. Its mobile app is a companion; the full product needs the desktop web app. Like HoneyBook, it has no courses, client community, habits or check-ins. Pick it over Coachful if you want very detailed automated workflows for intake paperwork and deliver all your coaching live.
3. Bonsai: best for freelancers who bill time

Bonsai is business management for freelancers and agencies: proposals, contracts, invoices, time tracking and projects. It is priced per user on every plan: Basic $15 a month ($9 billed annually), Essentials $25 ($19), Premium $39 ($29) and Elite $59 ($49, minimum 3 users), as listed in October 2026. The Basic plan has no invoicing or payments, so coaches who bill through Bonsai need a higher plan. The trial is 7 days, and a card is not required to start.
Bonsai has no courses, community, client habits, check-ins or coaching programs, and custom domains are marked as expected in 2026. Pick it over Coachful if you bill coaching and consulting by the hour and time tracking matters more than client delivery.

How hard is it to switch from HoneyBook?
Moving contacts is easy; moving your files is the work. HoneyBook exports contacts and clients to CSV, but smart files and templates do not export in a reusable format (September 2026 profile), so proposals, contracts and questionnaires need rebuilding in the new tool.
- Export contacts and clients from HoneyBook to CSV, and save PDFs of signed contracts and paid invoices for your records.
- List your active templates: proposals, contracts, questionnaires, email templates and automations. These are what you rebuild.
- Set up payments in the new tool before you cancel, and tell clients on payment plans how their next charge will work.
- Rebuild or import. In Coachful, clients, programs and content are imported for you during onboarding, and the white-glove team can build the website, funnel or program you describe.
- Cancel at the end of a billing cycle. If you are still within HoneyBook's 60-day money-back window, check the terms first.

Is HoneyBook worth it for coaches? Our verdict
HoneyBook is worth it for coaches whose business is mostly selling and scheduling sessions. Its proposals, contracts and invoices are polished, the Starter plan has unlimited clients, and the 30-day no-card trial plus 60-day money-back guarantee makes it low-risk to try. Public reviewers back that up, with a 4.1 average from 748 Trustpilot reviews.
For most coaches, though, HoneyBook covers only the first and last mile. It has no way to deliver a program, track habits, run check-ins or host a group, its payments are locked to HoneyBook's own processing, and the scheduler and automations need Essentials. Once you add a course tool, a community and a website, the total cost and the number of logins climb. If your coaching continues between sessions, a platform that holds the whole client journey is the better buy, and that is what we built Coachful to be. Start with a free trial, describe what you need built, and compare it against your HoneyBook stack. Current plans: Lite: $29/month for up to 5 clients; Solo: $49/month for up to 20 clients; Pro: $99/month with unlimited clients; Studio: $199/month with unlimited clients.
