HoneyBook vs Practice Better: Which Fits Coaches in 2026?

HoneyBook vs Practice Better: Which Fits Coaches in 2026?

In the HoneyBook vs Practice Better decision, the honest short answer is this: HoneyBook is a client-management CRM for service businesses that need proposals, contracts and invoices, while Practice Better is practice-management software for wellness and nutrition practitioners who need scheduling, telehealth, charting and programs. HoneyBook wins on sales paperwork and polished proposals. Practice Better wins on session delivery, client records and structured programs. Neither one was built around the full coaching journey, from first click to the habits a client keeps between sessions.

That gap is why this article ends with a third option. We make Coachful, a coaching platform, so read that section knowing who wrote it. Everything we say about HoneyBook and Practice Better comes from their own pricing pages as listed in October 2026 and from what public reviewers report. We have not run either tool through hands-on tests, and we say so wherever it matters.

What is the short answer by use case?

Pick by the work that fills your week. If most of your effort goes into winning clients with proposals and contracts, HoneyBook fits. If most of it goes into running sessions, taking notes and delivering a nutrition or wellness protocol, Practice Better fits.

  • You sell high-ticket packages with proposals and contracts: HoneyBook. Its proposal, contract and invoice flow is the core of the product, and every plan includes unlimited clients and projects.
  • You are a nutrition, functional health or wellness practitioner: Practice Better. It ships charting, note templates, telehealth video and forms, with add-ons such as an AI Charting Assistant, ePrescribe and fax.
  • You run multi-week programs with habits and check-ins: Practice Better is closer, because it has fixed-date programs from Professional and evergreen programs from Plus. HoneyBook has no program delivery at all.
  • You want a website, funnels, booking, payments and program delivery in one login: neither. HoneyBook has lead forms but no website builder, and Practice Better has no website builder or funnel pages. This is where Coachful comes in.
  • You are just starting and want to pay nothing for now: Practice Better's Sprout plan is free for up to 3 clients. HoneyBook has no free plan, only a 30-day trial.

For a deeper look at either tool on its own, see our Practice Better review and our Coachful vs HoneyBook comparison.

How do HoneyBook and Practice Better compare side by side?

The quickest way to see the difference is to line up what each tool includes. We judged on four things that matter most to coaches: one login for the whole client journey, delivery between sessions, total stack cost, and setup effort. On those criteria Coachful leads, which is why it sits in the first row; the rows below it compare the two tools this article is about.

ToolBuilt forBookingPaymentsPrograms, habits, check-insWebsite and funnelsFree plan or trial

Practice BetterWellness and nutrition practitionersScheduling and telehealth video on every paid plan; group scheduling from ProfessionalPractice Better Payments (Stripe)Fixed-date programs from Professional; evergreen from PlusNo website builder or funnel pagesFree Sprout plan for 3 clients; 14-day trial on paid plans

Two patterns stand out. HoneyBook is stronger at the start of a client relationship (inquiry, proposal, contract, deposit) and weaker after the client signs. Practice Better is the reverse: strong once a client is in your care, but it leaves marketing and your public website to other tools.

How much do HoneyBook and Practice Better cost?

On paper the entry prices are close: HoneyBook starts at $29 per month billed annually, and Practice Better's first paid plan is $25 per month billed annually. The real cost depends on which features you need, because both tools hold back important features for higher tiers.

A few details from the pricing pages, as listed in October 2026, are worth knowing before you compare totals:

  • HoneyBook shows annual prices first and runs time-limited promotions (25%, 40% or 50% off). The $59 and $129 figures appear struck through as reference prices. Starter's monthly-billed price is not shown; an older listing put it at $36.
  • HoneyBook raised prices in February 2025, from $19, $39 and $79 to $36, $59 and $129 per month on monthly billing, according to an older profile of the page.
  • HoneyBook's card fee is listed two ways on the same page: 2.7% + 10 cents in the FAQ and 2.9% + 25 cents in the plan comparison. ACH is 1.5%, and instant deposit costs 1%.
  • HoneyBook offers a 60-day money-back guarantee and a 30-day trial with no card required.
  • Practice Better's Professional card is inconsistent: it says "Save $84/year", which implies about $62 per month, while the table shows $59.
  • Practice Better's add-ons stack up: AI Charting Assistant at $10, $20 or $40 per practitioner per month; Connector Hub at $49 a month (Plus and Team); ePrescribe at $49 a month plus $99 onboarding; SMS at 5 cents per text; extra admins at $10 a month; storage at $1 per GB on Professional; fax at 10 cents a page.
  • Practice Better's trial is 30 days on Team and 14 days on other paid plans, with no contracts.

What does a typical coaching practice actually pay?

Here is an illustrative example, not a quote. Picture a health coach with 15 active clients who wants online booking, card payments and a 12-week group program that new clients can join at any time.

  • On HoneyBook, booking needs Essentials at $49 a month billed annually. The program itself would need a separate course or community tool, because HoneyBook has no program delivery. The coach also needs a website elsewhere.
  • On Practice Better, 15 clients rules out Starter (10 clients). Professional at $59 a month annually covers fixed-date programs, but a rolling, join-any-time program needs evergreen programs, which start on Plus at $89 a month annually. A website and sales pages still live elsewhere.
  • On Coachful, the matching plan for 15 clients is Solo: $49/month for up to 20 clients, and it covers booking, payments, the program, habits, check-ins, the website and funnels in one subscription.

Payment fees shift the math too. As an example, on a $1,000 package HoneyBook's card fee comes to $27.10 at the FAQ rate or $29.25 at the plan-table rate. Practice Better runs payments through Stripe but does not list its rates on the pricing page, so check them before you sign up. Coachful charges a 0% platform fee and you pay only your own Stripe or Razorpay processing.

Which is better for booking and scheduling?

Practice Better is the stronger scheduler for coaches. Scheduling and telehealth video are included on every paid plan, including the $25-a-month Starter tier, while HoneyBook puts its scheduler on Essentials and above.

Practice Better was designed around sessions: appointments, video calls, notes and secure messaging sit in one place, and group scheduling arrives on Professional. Team scheduling with roles and permissions comes on Team. HoneyBook's Starter plan includes a calendar, but the bookable scheduler, automations and SMS reminders only appear on Essentials. For a coach whose clients book recurring sessions, that matters: on HoneyBook Starter you would still need a separate booking tool.

Coachful's booking pages handle availability rules, buffers, minimum notice and time-zone detection, with two-way Google, Apple/iCloud and Outlook calendar sync. Sessions can use built-in video or auto-created Zoom, Meet or Teams links. Email reminders are standard, with SMS at 24 hours and WhatsApp at 1 hour once messaging is enabled. You can sell paid sessions and session credits, ask intake questions on booking, and assign multi-coach session types by round-robin or least-busy. Our scheduling software page has the details.

How do payments, invoices and contracts compare?

HoneyBook is the stronger tool for proposals, contracts and invoices; Practice Better is adequate for billing but treats it as one part of running a practice. The trade-off with HoneyBook is that you must use its own payment processing.

HoneyBook

Proposals, contracts and invoices are the heart of HoneyBook, and they are included from Starter. Public reviewers on Trustpilot give HoneyBook 4.1 from 748 reviews (seen October 2026). The constraints: payments must run through HoneyBook Payments (cards and ACH), so you cannot bring your own Stripe account, and QuickBooks Online sync starts on Essentials. Its smart files and templates are not portable in a reusable format if you leave, according to an older profile; contacts export to CSV.

Practice Better

Practice Better includes billing and payments on every paid plan, powered by Stripe through Practice Better Payments. Deposits and payment plans arrive on Professional. No platform fee is stated on the pricing page. Its pricing page lists forms and note templates rather than proposals, which points to intake paperwork more than sales documents. Trustpilot reviewers give Practice Better 3.8 from 87 reviews (seen October 2026).

Coachful

Coachful runs payments through your own Stripe Connect or Razorpay account: one-time payments, subscriptions, payment plans, order bumps, coupons, refunds, Apple Pay and Google Pay, and Stripe Tax. Every transaction gets an invoice, and you can send manual invoices. Coaching agreements with e-signature go out before the first call and are stored on the client record. There is no PayPal option. Can either tool deliver coaching programs between sessions?

Practice Better can, HoneyBook cannot. HoneyBook has no programs, courses, habits, check-ins or community, so whatever happens between sessions has to live in another tool.

Practice Better supports fixed-date programs from Professional, which suit cohort-style offers that start on a set day. Evergreen or self-paced programs, where a client can join any time, need Plus. Program templates also sit on Plus. For a nutrition practitioner running a protocol, that is a real strength, and it is a big reason Practice Better shows up on coach shortlists at all. Our guide to Practice Better for coaches walks through where it fits and where it pinches.

What Practice Better is not built around is the daily rhythm of coaching: habits a client ticks off, morning and evening check-ins, goals with progress bars and streaks, and a community where clients talk to each other. Those are the pieces that keep clients engaged for the weeks between calls.

In Coachful, a program is the backbone of the client relationship. You set weekly goals, daily tasks, habits and morning and evening check-ins, and clients see progress bars and streaks. Courses with modules, drip and completion tracking sit alongside, and enrolling in a program can automatically place a client in a cohort group with its own feed and chat. This short walkthrough shows how a program is built:

What about websites, lead capture and marketing?

Neither tool will build your coaching website. HoneyBook offers lead forms (2 on Starter, 10 on Essentials, unlimited on Premium) that you embed on a site you host elsewhere, and Practice Better has no website builder or funnel pages, based on an older profile of the product.

That means a coach on either tool usually pays for a separate website builder, a separate email marketing tool and sometimes a separate course or community platform. Practice Better's Plus plan includes 10,000 broadcasts a month, which helps with client emails, but it is not a sales funnel. HoneyBook's automations (Essentials and up) handle follow-ups once someone has inquired.

Coachful includes a section-based website builder with a blog, custom domain, SEO settings and 30 designed homepage templates, plus booking, application, lead-magnet and checkout funnels with pixel and UTM tracking. Email lists, broadcasts and multi-step sequences with triggers, delays, branching and A/B splits are included too, as is a social planner that publishes to Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X, Threads and YouTube. What does the client experience look like?

On HoneyBook, a client mostly sees documents: proposals, contracts, invoices and a client portal to find them. On Practice Better, a client sees a portal for booking, forms, messages, programs and records. Practice Better's portal branding and personalized URL start on Plus.

The difference shows up after the sale. A HoneyBook client signs and pays, then the coaching itself happens somewhere else: over Zoom, email, a course platform or a group chat. A Practice Better client gets more in one place, which is why it suits practitioners who work through forms, messages and structured programs. Our article on the Practice Better client portal shows what clients see screen by screen.

Which is safer for health and nutrition coaches?

If you keep clinical records or bill insurance, neither HoneyBook nor Coachful is the right home for them, and you should look at a clinical system. Practice Better is built for wellness and nutrition practitioners and offers charting, ePrescribe, PDMP and fax add-ons, so it sits closer to that world; check its own documentation for privacy and BAA terms before you rely on it.

For most coaches, the line is about scope. Coaching is not medical treatment or therapy. A health or nutrition coach supports behavior change, habits and accountability; diagnosing conditions, prescribing diets for disease or treating mental health concerns belongs to licensed clinicians. Refer out when a client reports symptoms of an eating disorder, uncontrolled medical conditions, medication questions or thoughts of self-harm. The US Department of Health and Human Services explains who counts as a covered entity under HIPAA, which is a useful starting point if you are unsure where you stand; check with an attorney if your situation is borderline.

Coachful is not HIPAA-certified and does not sign a BAA, so it is not for clinical record-keeping or insurance billing. It is built for coaching: programs, habits, check-ins and the business around them. Our Practice Better EHR article covers when a clinical record system is actually needed.

Which should you pick for which kind of coach?

Match the tool to the shape of your practice. The table below sums up our recommendation by coach type, based on what each vendor documents.

Is there a third option that beats both? Coachful, honestly

For coaches who deliver programs, yes. Coachful puts the whole client journey under one login: a website and funnels to attract clients, booking and payments to sign them, agreements before the first call, and programs with habits and check-ins to keep them moving between sessions.

What Coachful is and who it is for

Coachful is a coaching platform built for coaches who deliver programs, not just sessions, for solo coaches growing into a small team, and for coaches replacing 4 to 6 tools. One subscription covers booking, payments, contracts, program delivery with habits and check-ins, courses, a community, a website with funnels and email, and an AI assistant. The coach has one login; the client gets one branded app. The company is based in Tallinn, Estonia, and has a Trustpilot score of 4.5 from 21 reviews.

  • Client records bring together goals, check-ins, habits, notes, intake answers, tags, payments and sessions, with a status of thriving, active, quiet or at risk and an AI briefing per client.
  • Michelle, the built-in AI assistant, works from your live practice data: it builds programs, drafts emails and content, summarizes recorded sessions and briefs you before each session. Questions and planning are included in your Coachful membership; confirmed builds and changes use AI credits.
  • ICF credential tracking counts coaching hours and distinct clients against ACC, PCC and MCC thresholds and exports an ICF client coaching log. See ICF hour tracking.
  • Templates include more than 40 ready-to-film program templates, 48 course templates with quizzes and about 25 funnel templates.
  • The Fitness & Nutrition pack adds a workout builder, nutrition targets, meal plans, recipes, food lookup and barcode scanning, progress photos and weekly check-ins. See Fitness & Nutrition.
  • Team plans (Studio and Agency) add coach seats with per-coach availability and staff permissions.

When Coachful beats both

  • You run multi-week programs and want habits, check-ins, goals and community in the same place as booking and payments.
  • You are paying for a separate website builder, email tool and course platform on top of HoneyBook or Practice Better.
  • You want to keep your own Stripe account rather than use HoneyBook Payments, with a 0% Coachful platform fee.
  • You want your marketing (website, funnels, email sequences, social planner, Instagram DM automations) feeding the same lead and client records you coach from.

When Coachful does not beat them

  • Pick HoneyBook over Coachful if your business is mostly project-based service work with multi-part proposals, and you need QuickBooks Online sync or multiple companies under one account.
  • Pick Practice Better over Coachful if you keep clinical charts, need ePrescribe or fax, or need a vendor that offers terms for health records. Coachful is not HIPAA-certified.
  • There is no PayPal, and every plan is paid once the trial ends, so if either is a dealbreaker, look elsewhere.
  • It does not sync Garmin, Fitbit, Whoop or Oura data and has no stock exercise videos; coaches attach their own demo videos.
  • It has no multi-stage sales deal board for large teams and no Salesforce or HubSpot integration.
  • The client app runs under the Coachful listing with your branding, not under your own App Store account.

Why Coachful stands out

Why Coachful stands out: a free white-glove service. From Create, the "We'll build it for you" card lets you describe what you want built: a website, funnel, sales page, program, course outline, email sequence, form, link in bio and more. You can attach up to 8 reference links and up to 10 files such as logos, photos and brand guides. The Coachful team builds it inside your own account, usually within about 24 hours. Nothing gets invented: no fake credentials, testimonials or prices, and gaps are left for you to fill. It does not include recording videos, logo design, ad management or ongoing marketing. A leadership coach with a Squarespace renewal days away, for example, got one clean homepage with a repeated "talk with me" button; a menopause and midlife health coach starting from nothing got a five-page site with every button leading to a free 20-minute consultation. Read more about the free white-glove service.

How hard is it to switch from HoneyBook or Practice Better?

Switching is mostly a data question. HoneyBook exports contacts and clients to CSV, but its smart files and templates are not portable in a reusable format, so plan to rebuild proposals and contracts. Practice Better emails a per-client archive of notes, invoices and forms that stays available for 48 hours, exports the contact list as a spreadsheet, and offers bulk export on request (based on an older profile).

A sensible order: export your client list first, download any records you must keep, recreate your contract and intake forms, then move active clients at a natural break such as the end of a billing cycle. Our step-by-step guides cover how to migrate from Practice Better and the HoneyBook alternative path. On Coachful, clients, programs and content are imported for you during onboarding.

Frequently asked questions

Is HoneyBook or Practice Better better for coaches?

It depends on where your work sits. HoneyBook suits coaches who sell through proposals and contracts and deliver elsewhere. Practice Better suits wellness and nutrition practitioners who need scheduling, charting and programs. Coaches who deliver programs with habits and check-ins often find neither covers the whole journey.

Does HoneyBook have a free plan?

No. HoneyBook offers a 30-day free trial with no credit card required and a 60-day money-back guarantee, as listed in October 2026. Its cheapest plan, Starter, is $29 a month billed annually.

Does Practice Better have a free plan?

Yes. Practice Better's Sprout plan is free for 3 clients, 1 practitioner and 100 MB of storage. It is aimed at students and new practitioners, and paid plans start at $25 a month billed annually.

Can I use my own Stripe account with HoneyBook?

No. HoneyBook requires its own payment processing, HoneyBook Payments, for cards and ACH. Its pricing page lists card fees two ways (2.7% + 10 cents and 2.9% + 25 cents) and ACH at 1.5%.

Does HoneyBook support coaching programs or courses?

No. HoneyBook has no programs, courses, habits, check-ins or community. Coaches using it typically pair it with a separate course or community platform for delivery.

Is Practice Better HIPAA compliant?

Practice Better is built for health practitioners and offers clinical add-ons such as charting and ePrescribe, but check its own documentation for current HIPAA and BAA terms before storing protected health information. Coachful is not HIPAA-certified and is not meant for clinical records.

Which is cheaper, HoneyBook or Practice Better?

For a solo coach with up to 10 clients, Practice Better Starter at $25 a month annually is slightly cheaper than HoneyBook Starter at $29, and it includes scheduling. Once you need booking on HoneyBook (Essentials, $49 annually) or evergreen programs on Practice Better (Plus, $89 annually), the gap changes, and add-ons can raise Practice Better's total.

What is Coachful's free white-glove service?

It is a done-for-you build included on every Coachful plan. You describe what you want, such as a website, funnel, program or email sequence, attach references, and the Coachful team builds it inside your account, usually within about 24 hours. It does not include video recording, logo design or ongoing marketing.

Can I move from Practice Better to Coachful?

Yes. Export your contacts and client archives from Practice Better, and Coachful imports clients, programs and content for you during onboarding. Keep any clinical records in a clinical system, since Coachful is not HIPAA-certified. Our Practice Better vs Coachful comparison covers the differences in detail.

Does Coachful replace HoneyBook's proposals?

Partly. Coachful covers coaching agreements with e-signature, checkout funnels, payment plans and invoices, which handles how most coaches sign clients. If you rely on multi-part proposals for project work or need QuickBooks Online sync, HoneyBook still does that better.
