ActiveCampaign vs Flodesk for Coaches: Honest 2026 Comparison

In activecampaign vs flodesk, the short answer is this: ActiveCampaign is the deeper automation engine, built for segmented, branching email and a contact CRM, while Flodesk is the simpler, design-led email tool with forms, landing pages and a basic checkout. If you want complex nurture logic and lead scoring, ActiveCampaign wins. If you want beautiful newsletters with almost no learning curve, Flodesk wins. Neither one books sessions, delivers programs or gives your clients a place to do the work between calls, which is why many coaches end up paying for three or four more tools around either of them.
We make Coachful, a coaching platform that includes email marketing alongside booking, payments, programs and a client app, so we have a stake in this comparison. We have kept the ActiveCampaign and Flodesk sections to what each vendor documents and what public reviewers report, as listed in October 2026, and we say plainly where each one beats us.
Which should a coach pick: ActiveCampaign or Flodesk?
Pick ActiveCampaign if email is your main sales engine and you need conditional logic, lead scoring and many branching sequences. Pick Flodesk if you send a regular newsletter, sell one or two simple offers and care most about how the emails look.
- You run a launch-style business with segmented funnels: ActiveCampaign. Its Plus plan adds landing pages, Stripe and PayPal data in automations, and scheduling integrations; Pro adds predictive sending, conditional content and split automations.
- You want a pretty weekly newsletter and a freebie opt-in: Flodesk. The paid Lite plan includes unlimited email sends, and the free plan already gives you unlimited forms, landing pages and link-in-bio pages (it just cannot send email).
- You sell a low-ticket digital product or a payment plan: Flodesk's Everything plan includes checkouts, sales pages, subscriptions, payment plans and abandoned-cart automations. ActiveCampaign has no checkout of its own.
- You coach clients through programs and want one login for the whole journey: neither. That is the gap the third option in this article fills.
If you are still weighing a wider field, our ActiveCampaign alternatives for coaches and Flodesk alternatives for coaches roundups cover more tools.
How do ActiveCampaign and Flodesk compare side by side?
They overlap on email, forms and landing pages, then split sharply: ActiveCampaign goes deep on automation and CRM, Flodesk goes wide on design and simple selling. The table below adds Coachful as the third column of comparison.
Ranking criteria: one login for the whole client journey, delivery between sessions, total stack cost for a working coaching business, and setup effort (including Coachful's free white-glove build).
| Tool | Best for | Email and automation | Booking | Payments | Client delivery | Starting price |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Coachful | Coaches who deliver programs and want one tool | Lists, broadcasts, multi-step sequences with triggers, delays, branching and A/B splits | Built in, with two-way calendar sync and reminders | Your own Stripe Connect or Razorpay; 0% platform fee | Programs, habits, check-ins, courses, community in a branded client app | Lite: $29/month for up to 5 clients |
| ActiveCampaign | Segmented, branching email marketing with a contact CRM | Deepest of the three; Starter caps each automation at 5 actions | None built in; Calendly, Acuity Scheduling and Eventbrite integrations on Plus and above | None built in; Stripe and PayPal integrations on Plus and above feed automations | None | $15/month billed yearly ($19 monthly) for 1,000 contacts |
| Flodesk | Design-led newsletters and simple digital sales | Unlimited sends on paid plans; unlimited workflows from Pro | None | Flodesk Checkout via Stripe on Everything (one checkout bonus on Pro) | None | Free plan (no sending); Lite $19/month yearly or $25 monthly for 1,000 subscribers |
Public sentiment is split too. On Trustpilot, Flodesk showed 4.8 from 321 reviews when we checked on October 25, 2026. ActiveCampaign's page showed a 2.7 heading (with star artwork labelled 2.5) from 1,452 reviews on October 28, 2026. Coachful sits at 4.5 from 21 reviews, a much smaller sample. Review scores lean toward people with billing or support complaints, so read them as a signal about friction, not as a feature verdict.
How much do ActiveCampaign and Flodesk cost?
At 1,000 contacts, ActiveCampaign starts at $15 a month billed yearly and Flodesk's first sending plan starts at $19 a month billed yearly. Both prices rise as your list grows, and the plan you actually need for coaching work is usually not the cheapest one.
| Tool and plan | Billed monthly | Billed yearly (per month) | What the base price covers |
|---|---|---|---|
| Coachful | Lite: $29/month for up to 5 clients | Pro: $99/month with unlimited clients | Flat monthly plans; lower plans cap the number of clients, Pro is unlimited, team plans add seats; email, booking, programs and website included in your Coachful membership |
| ActiveCampaign Starter | $19 | $15 ($180/year) | 1,000 contacts, 10,000 sends a month, email-only automation with 5 actions per automation, no landing pages |
| ActiveCampaign Plus | $59 | $49 ($588/year) | 1,000 contacts, 10,000 sends, landing pages, Stripe, PayPal and scheduling integrations |
| ActiveCampaign Pro | $99 | $79 ($948/year) | 1,000 contacts, 12,000 sends, 3 seats, predictive sending, conditional content, split automations |
| ActiveCampaign Enterprise | $179 | $145 ($1,740/year) | 1,000 contacts, 15,000 sends, 5 seats, SSO, HIPAA support, custom objects |
| Flodesk Free | $0 | $0 | Unlimited forms, landing pages, link-in-bio pages and templates; no email sending |
| Flodesk Lite | $25 | $19 | Up to 1,000 subscribers (plan max 25,000), 1 seat, unlimited sends, one workflow as a limited-time bonus |
| Flodesk Pro | $28 | $25 | Up to 1,000 subscribers, 2 seats, unlimited workflows, advanced analytics, hide the Flodesk footer |
| Flodesk Everything | $54 | $49 | Up to 1,000 subscribers, 3 seats, unlimited checkouts, sales pages, funnels, subscriptions and payment plans |
ActiveCampaign's rendered page shows only yearly per-month prices; the monthly-billing figures and yearly totals come from the pricing catalog that page loads, and the yearly totals divided by 12 match the rendered prices exactly. The FAQ says "There are no setup costs or hidden fees", and growing past your contact band moves you to the next one. At 2,500 contacts, ActiveCampaign lists Starter at $49 monthly or $39 a month yearly, Plus at $119 or $95, and Pro at $189 or $149.

Flodesk prices by active subscribers only, and yearly billing works out as "1 month free". Flodesk retired its old flat-rate plan for new members on December 2, 2025 (existing members keep it), so older reviews quoting one flat price no longer apply to new accounts. At the top of the slider, Pro reaches about $1,589 a month on monthly billing. Our Flodesk pricing breakdown goes through the tiers in more detail.

What do add-ons and fees add?
ActiveCampaign's add-ons are where the bill grows. The Enhanced CRM "Pipelines" add-on, which you need for deal pipelines, has a base of $49, $85 or $119 a month on monthly billing for Plus, Pro or Enterprise, plus a per-seat charge of $19, $29 or $49 a month (from the pricing catalog; the page itself only says "Available add-on"). Custom reporting is $159 a month on Plus and Pro. SMS, WhatsApp messaging and transactional email are sold separately. Every plan includes 500 AI credits, with more available to buy.
Flodesk's main extra is a dedicated IP on Pro and Everything, with no price shown. Flodesk Checkout runs through Stripe at 3% + $0.30 per transaction on Stripe Express in the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand (3% + £0.30 in the UK, 3% + €0.30 in Europe); Stripe Standard users pay their own regional Stripe rate. Checkout only works in the US, Canada, UK, Australia, New Zealand and Euro Area countries.
What does a full coaching stack cost around each one?
Here is an example, not a quote. A coach with 1,000 contacts who wants landing pages and payment data in their automations needs ActiveCampaign Plus at $49 a month billed yearly, then still pays separately for a booking tool, a contract and e-signature tool, a course or program host, and somewhere for clients to check in. The same coach on Flodesk Everything pays $49 a month billed yearly and gets checkout and sales pages, but still needs every one of those other tools. The real comparison is the stack, not the email line item.
| Setup | Booking | Checkout | Programs and check-ins | Logins your client juggles | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Coachful (Solo: $49/month for up to 20 clients) | Included | Included | Included, through your own Stripe or Razorpay | Included | One branded app |
| ActiveCampaign Plus at 1,000 contacts | $49/month yearly | Separate tool, connected by integration | Separate Stripe or PayPal account, connected by integration | Separate tool | Usually three or more |
| Flodesk Everything at 1,000 subscribers | $49/month yearly | Separate tool | Included (Stripe fees apply) | Separate tool | Usually two or more |
Which has the better email editor and templates?
Flodesk is the design pick; ActiveCampaign is the function pick. Flodesk positions itself as design-led email marketing, aimed at good-looking emails with little setup. ActiveCampaign lists 250+ email templates and AI builders for campaigns and content, with generative AI for text and images from Plus.
The difference that matters more for coaches is what each email can do once it is sent. ActiveCampaign Pro adds conditional content, so one newsletter can show a different paragraph to past clients and to cold leads. Flodesk relies on segments to send different emails to different groups, which is simpler to set up but means more separate emails as your offers multiply.
Both are bound by the same rules on commercial email: an honest sender, a working unsubscribe and a physical address. The FTC's CAN-SPAM compliance guide is the plain-language reference for US senders.
Which has stronger automation?
ActiveCampaign, clearly, once you are on Plus or above. Starter caps each automation at five actions and is email-only, which is enough for a welcome series but not for a full nurture path. From Plus, actions are unlimited, and Pro adds split automations, an automations map and attribution tracking. ActiveCampaign also lists 950+ automation recipes, ready-made flows you can adapt.
Flodesk's workflows are simpler. Lite comes with one workflow as a limited-time bonus, so in practice a coach who wants a welcome sequence plus a freebie delivery sequence plus a post-purchase sequence needs Pro, which has unlimited workflows. Everything adds abandoned-cart automations tied to its checkout.
A practical test: write down the three sequences you actually need this quarter. If each one is "subscribe, wait, send, wait, send", Flodesk Pro is enough. If you need "if they clicked the program link but did not book, wait two days, then send a different email; if they booked, move them to a client list", you are describing ActiveCampaign Plus or Pro territory.
Which is better for landing pages, forms and websites?
Flodesk gives you more for less here. Even its free plan includes unlimited forms, landing pages and link-in-bio pages; you pay only when you want to send email. ActiveCampaign Starter has standard and inline forms only, with landing pages and site messages starting on Plus.
Neither is a full coaching website. Flodesk's sales pages and funnels arrive on Everything. ActiveCampaign's landing pages are campaign pages rather than a site with a blog and an About page. Most coaches on either tool keep a separate website builder, which is one more renewal. If you want the site, blog and funnels under one roof, our coach website builder page shows how Coachful handles it.
Can either one take payments or book sessions?
Flodesk can take payments on Everything; ActiveCampaign cannot take payments on any plan; neither books sessions. That single fact shapes the rest of a coach's stack.
ActiveCampaign does not process payments. On Plus and above, Stripe and PayPal integrations feed purchase data into automations, so a sale can trigger a welcome sequence, but the checkout itself lives somewhere else. Booking is the same story: Calendly, Acuity Scheduling and Eventbrite integrations start on Plus, and Starter has none.
Flodesk Checkout supports one-time sales, subscriptions and payment plans on Everything, which covers a low-ticket product or a monthly membership. It has no scheduling, so a discovery call or a paid session still needs another tool. For more on running bookings properly, see our scheduling software for coaches page.
Which has the better CRM for tracking leads and clients?
ActiveCampaign has a real contact CRM, with lead and deal scores and tags, though deal pipelines need the paid Enhanced CRM add-on. Flodesk has subscribers and segments, not a CRM. Neither stores what a coach actually tracks about a client: session notes, goals, check-ins, agreements and payments in one record.
If pipelines are why you are looking at ActiveCampaign, read how to manage coaching pipelines without ActiveCampaign before you add the CRM add-on and its per-seat charge.
How do sending limits, seats and data export compare?
Flodesk's paid plans include unlimited sends; ActiveCampaign caps monthly sends at 10 to 15 times your contact count depending on plan. For a coach mailing a list of 1,000 once or twice a week, ActiveCampaign's 10,000 sends a month is plenty, but daily launch sequences can approach it.
- Seats: ActiveCampaign Starter and Plus include 1 seat (Starter caps at 2, with an extra seat priced in the catalog at $10 a month), Pro includes 3 and Enterprise 5. Flodesk Lite has 1, Pro 2 and Everything 3.
- Trials: ActiveCampaign offers a free 14-day trial with no credit card, and paid plans carry a 30-day refund guarantee. Flodesk offers 14 days with no card, plus a permanent free plan that cannot send email.
- Export: ActiveCampaign exports contacts to CSV with standard and custom fields, scores and tags, and the download link stays valid for 7 days; contact notes cannot be exported. Flodesk's export process was not documented on the pages we checked.
- Health data: ActiveCampaign lists HIPAA support only on Enterprise. Coaching is not medical care, and if you hold clinical records, those belong in a clinical system with a signed agreement, whichever email tool you use.

What does the client experience look like on each?
On both tools, your client experiences you as an inbox. They get your emails, maybe a landing page and, on Flodesk Everything, a checkout page. After they buy, they leave both tools: the session link, the worksheet, the program and the check-in all live somewhere else.
That is fine if your business is mostly content and launches. It is a real cost if you coach people through change over weeks, because the work between sessions is where results happen and where clients drift. A client who has to remember which app holds the booking, which holds the course and which holds the habit tracker is a client who quietly stops showing up. For more on that side, see how to manage coaching client emails without ActiveCampaign.

Which coach should pick which tool?
Match the tool to how your business makes money, not to which feature list is longer.
| Tool | Pick it when | Skip it when |
|---|---|---|
| Coachful | You run sessions and programs, want email, booking, payments and client delivery in one login, and want it built for you | You need enterprise-grade email logic, HIPAA, PayPal, or a Salesforce or HubSpot connection |
| ActiveCampaign | Email is your main sales engine and you need branching automations, scoring and conditional content | You want a simple newsletter, or you are not ready to pay for Plus plus separate booking, payment and delivery tools |
| Flodesk | You want beautiful emails fast, a free place to build forms and link-in-bio pages, and a simple checkout | You need complex automation logic, scheduling, or payments outside the supported countries |
A few common profiles:
- New coach with a small list: Flodesk's free plan lets you build forms and pages before you pay to send. Once you start taking clients, though, you will need booking and contracts, which is where an all-in-one tool usually costs less. See Coachful for new coaches.
- Course creator running launches: ActiveCampaign Plus or Pro if the sequences are complex; our ActiveCampaign vs ConvertKit and MailerLite vs ActiveCampaign comparisons are worth reading too.
- Newsletter-first coach: Flodesk Pro, or compare it with Kit in Flodesk vs ConvertKit.
- Coach delivering 1:1 and group programs: an all-in-one coaching platform, because neither email tool touches delivery.
Is there a third option that beats both for coaches?
For coaches who deliver programs, yes: Coachful replaces the email tool and the tools around it. For coaches whose business is mostly email, ActiveCampaign or Flodesk can still be the better choice, and we explain when below.

What Coachful is and who it is for
Coachful is a coaching platform. One subscription covers booking, payments, contracts, program delivery with habits and check-ins, courses, a community, a website with funnels and email, and an AI assistant, with one login for you and one branded app for your clients. It is built for coaches who deliver programs, not just sessions, for solo coaches growing into a small team, and for coaches replacing four to six tools. The company is based in Tallinn, Estonia.
How Coachful's email compares
Coachful includes email lists, broadcasts and multi-step sequences with triggers, delays, branching and A/B splits. That covers what most coaches use Flodesk workflows or ActiveCampaign Plus automations for: a welcome series, a lead-magnet follow-up, a post-booking nurture and a re-engagement email. The difference is that the trigger can be a coaching event, such as a booked session, a program enrollment or a client going quiet, because the email lives in the same system as the client record.

Here is a short walkthrough of email inside Coachful:
Beyond email, Coachful's automations include reminders and Instagram automations: when someone comments a chosen keyword on a post, replies to a story or sends a DM, Coachful can send them your booking link, lead magnet or checkout in a DM, and they land in the same lead and client records.

Funnels, website and checkout
Coachful has a section-based website builder with a blog, custom domain, SEO settings and 30 designed homepage templates, plus booking, application, lead-magnet and checkout funnels with pixels and UTM tracking, and a link-in-bio page that sells. Payments run through your own Stripe Connect or Razorpay account: one-time, subscriptions, payment plans, order bumps, coupons, refunds, Apple Pay and Google Pay, with an invoice per transaction. Coachful charges a 0% platform fee; you pay only Stripe or Razorpay processing.

Booking and delivery, the part neither email tool has
Booking pages include availability rules, buffers, minimum notice and time-zone detection, with two-way Google, Apple/iCloud and Outlook sync and built-in video or auto-created Zoom, Meet or Teams links. Coaching agreements with e-signature go out before the first call. After that, clients work through multi-week programs with weekly goals, daily tasks, habits, morning and evening check-ins and streaks, and you see each client as thriving, active, quiet or at risk. More on that in our coaching software and coaching CRM pages.

Michelle, the built-in AI assistant, works from your live practice data: it drafts emails and content, builds programs, summarizes recorded sessions and briefs you before calls. Questions and planning are included in your Coachful membership; confirmed builds and changes use AI credits.
Why Coachful stands out: a free white-glove service. From Create, "We'll build it for you · FREE", you describe what you want built, such as a website, funnel, sales page, program, course outline, email sequence or newsletter, and attach up to 8 reference links and 10 files. The Coachful team builds it inside your own account, usually within about 24 hours. Nothing gets invented: no fake credentials, testimonials or prices, and gaps are left for you to fill. One recent example: a business mentor for beauty professionals got a 12-week mentorship sales page, a free start-up-guide funnel and rewritten follow-up emails. Another: a leadership coach with a Squarespace renewal days away got one clean homepage with a repeated "talk with me" button. It does not include recording videos, logo design, ad management or ongoing marketing. Read more about the free white-glove service.

When Coachful does not beat ActiveCampaign or Flodesk
- You need advanced email science: predictive sending, conditional content blocks, lead scoring and attribution are ActiveCampaign strengths that Coachful does not match.
- You only want a newsletter: if you never book sessions or deliver programs, Flodesk is simpler and its free plan lets you build before paying.
- You need HIPAA: Coachful is not HIPAA-certified and offers no BAA. ActiveCampaign lists HIPAA support on Enterprise.
- You need PayPal, Salesforce or HubSpot, or a multi-stage sales deal board for a large team: Coachful has none of these.
- You want a permanent free plan: Coachful has a free trial, not a free plan.
How to start
Start a free trial, then use the white-glove build to have your website, funnel, program or email sequence set up for you. Your clients, programs and content are imported for you during onboarding, and monthly plans cancel in one click (current plans: Lite: $29/month for up to 5 clients; Solo: $49/month for up to 20 clients; Pro: $99/month with unlimited clients; Studio: $199/month with unlimited clients). You can also compare Coachful with other tools side by side.
Is it hard to switch from ActiveCampaign or Flodesk?
Moving contacts is easy; moving automations takes rebuilding. ActiveCampaign exports contacts to CSV with fields, scores and tags, though contact notes do not come with them, so copy any notes you care about before you cancel. Flodesk's export process was not documented on the pages we checked, so confirm it in your account before committing elsewhere.
Sequences do not transfer between any of these tools as working automations. Copy the text of each email into a document, note the delays and conditions, and rebuild. If you move to Coachful, clients, programs and content are imported for you during onboarding, and you can ask the white-glove team to rebuild an email sequence from the copy you send.
Run the old and new tools side by side for one billing cycle, send from only one at a time, and cancel once your welcome sequence and lead-magnet delivery work in the new system. Whatever you choose, keep a recent contact export of your own.
Frequently asked questions
Is Flodesk cheaper than ActiveCampaign?
At 1,000 contacts, ActiveCampaign Starter is $15 a month billed yearly and Flodesk Lite is $19, so ActiveCampaign's entry plan is cheaper. Once you need landing pages and payment data in automations, ActiveCampaign Plus is $49 a month yearly, the same as Flodesk Everything, which also includes a checkout. Prices for both rise with your list, as listed in October 2026.
Can Flodesk's free plan send emails?
No. Flodesk's free plan includes unlimited forms, landing pages, link-in-bio pages, templates and segmentation, but it cannot send email. You need Lite or higher to send.
Does ActiveCampaign have a free plan?
No. ActiveCampaign offers a free 14-day trial with no credit card, and paid plans carry a 30-day refund guarantee.
Can ActiveCampaign or Flodesk book coaching sessions?
Neither has a built-in booking calendar. ActiveCampaign integrates with Calendly, Acuity Scheduling and Eventbrite from Plus. Flodesk has no scheduling, so you need a separate booking tool with either.
Which has better automation for coaches?
ActiveCampaign, from Plus upward, with unlimited actions, branching and, on Pro, split automations and conditional content. Flodesk's workflows are simpler, and you need Pro for more than one. Many coaches only need a welcome series and a lead-magnet follow-up, which either tool handles.
Can I sell a coaching program with Flodesk?
Yes, on Everything, which includes checkouts, sales pages, subscriptions and payment plans through Stripe. Checkout only works in the US, Canada, UK, Australia, New Zealand and Euro Area countries, and Flodesk does not deliver the program itself.
Is ActiveCampaign or Flodesk HIPAA compliant?
ActiveCampaign lists HIPAA support on its Enterprise plan only. The Flodesk pages we checked did not mention HIPAA. Coachful is not HIPAA-certified, so clinical records belong in a clinical system; check with an attorney if you are unsure what applies to you.
What is Coachful's free white-glove service?
It is a build service included on every Coachful plan: you describe a website, funnel, program, course outline, email sequence or other asset, attach references, and the Coachful team builds it inside your account, usually within about 24 hours. It does not include recording videos, logo design, ad management or ongoing marketing.
Can Coachful replace ActiveCampaign or Flodesk entirely?
For most coaches, yes: Coachful includes email lists, broadcasts and multi-step sequences with branching and A/B splits, alongside booking, payments and client delivery. If you rely on predictive sending, lead scoring or conditional content, ActiveCampaign still does more on email alone.
Which should a brand-new coach start with?
If you only need an opt-in form and a newsletter, Flodesk's free plan lets you build before paying to send. If you are already booking clients, a platform that combines email with booking, contracts and payments usually saves you from adding tools later. Coachful offers a free trial and the free white-glove build to get set up.
