MailerLite vs ActiveCampaign: Which Fits Coaches in 2026?

In the MailerLite vs ActiveCampaign decision, most coaches should pick MailerLite: it costs the same or less at every list size we priced, has a real free plan, and includes simple bookings, digital product sales and a website. Pick ActiveCampaign only if your business runs on long, branching email automations and lead scoring, and you are willing to pay roughly three times more for that depth. Neither tool runs your coaching itself, which is why this comparison ends with a third option.
We make Coachful, an all-in-one coaching platform, so we have a stake in this topic. We have kept the MailerLite and ActiveCampaign sections factual: every price and limit below comes from each vendor's own pricing pages as listed in October 2026, and we say plainly where each one beats Coachful. We have not run hands-on tests of either tool; where we describe experience, we report what the vendors document and what public reviewers say.
What is the short answer on MailerLite vs ActiveCampaign for coaches?
MailerLite is the better fit for most solo coaches building a newsletter and selling a few offers; ActiveCampaign is the better fit for coaches running a marketing funnel at scale who need deep segmentation and sales automation. Here is the answer by use case.
- You are starting out with under 250 subscribers: MailerLite. Its Free plan sends up to 2,500 emails a month with no time limit. ActiveCampaign has no free plan, only a 14-day trial.
- You want a newsletter, a lead magnet and a booking link in one place: MailerLite. Its Bookings feature handles free or paid sessions through Stripe with Google and Outlook calendar sync. ActiveCampaign has no booking calendar of its own.
- You run webinars, ads and multi-path nurture sequences: ActiveCampaign Plus or Pro. Its automation builder, predictive sending, conditional content and attribution reporting go further than MailerLite's.
- You need a sales pipeline for a small sales team: ActiveCampaign, but only with the paid Enhanced CRM add-on. MailerLite has no deal pipeline.
- You deliver programs, check-ins and sessions to paying clients: neither. Both are marketing tools. You would still need a scheduler, a payment and contract setup, and somewhere for clients to do the work between sessions. That is where an all-in-one platform like Coachful fits, covered in its own section below.
How do MailerLite and ActiveCampaign compare side by side?
MailerLite wins on price, simplicity and built-in selling; ActiveCampaign wins on automation depth and CRM. We ranked the three options on what matters most to a working coach: one login for the whole client journey, delivery between sessions, total stack cost, and how much setup effort you carry (including whether someone will build it for you).
| Tool | Best for | Starting price | Free plan | Booking | Client delivery | Trustpilot (Oct 2026) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Coachful | Coaches who sell and deliver programs, sessions and courses from one login | Lite: $29/month for up to 5 clients | No; a free trial | Built in, with two-way calendar sync and video links | Branded client app with programs, habits, check-ins, courses and community | 4.5 from 21 reviews |
| MailerLite | Newsletters, lead magnets and simple offers on a budget | $12/month (Comfort, 500 subscribers) | Yes, up to 250 subscribers | Built-in Bookings, free or paid via Stripe | Email, forms, surveys and quizzes only | 4.1 from 3,391 reviews |
| ActiveCampaign | Deep email automation, segmentation and sales follow-up | $15/month billed yearly (Starter, 1,000 contacts) | No; 14-day trial | None built in; Calendly or Acuity integration on Plus and above | Email only | 2.7 from 1,452 reviews |
One note on the ActiveCampaign rating: on the day we checked, Trustpilot's heading showed 2.7 while the star graphic's description said 2.5. Either way it sits well below MailerLite's 4.1.

MailerLite pitches itself to creators, solopreneurs and small businesses. The product is an email tool with a website, landing page and signup form builder attached, plus bookings and digital product sales.

ActiveCampaign positions itself as a marketing automation platform with a contact CRM. Its strength is the automation builder, with more than 950 automation recipes listed on its pricing page.
How much do MailerLite and ActiveCampaign cost?
MailerLite costs $12 a month for 500 subscribers on Comfort and $25 on Power; ActiveCampaign starts at $19 a month for 1,000 contacts on Starter (or $15 a month billed yearly) and climbs to $59 for Plus, the first plan with landing pages and payment integrations. Both price by list size, so the gap widens as you grow.
MailerLite renamed its plans on June 16, 2026. Growing Business became Comfort and Advanced became Power, with new prices and limits, so reviews quoting $10 or $20 plans under the old names are out of date. Annual billing takes 10% off MailerLite. ActiveCampaign's annual billing saves roughly 17% to 21% depending on the plan.
| Plan | Monthly billing | Billed yearly (per month) | Included list size | Key limits |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Coachful | Lite: $29/month for up to 5 clients | Flat monthly plans; monthly plans cancel in one click | Lower plans cap the number of clients; Pro is unlimited | Booking, payments, contracts, programs, courses, community, website, funnels and email included in your Coachful membership |
| MailerLite Free | $0 | $0 | 250 subscribers | 2,500 emails/month, 3 automations (5 steps each), 1 website and 1 landing page, 1 active product or booking |
| MailerLite Comfort | $12 (500 subs), $19 (1,000) | $10.80 (500), $17.10 (1,000) | Scales with subscribers | Emails 10x your tier, 3 seats, 50 automations, 10 sites and landing pages, 5 products and bookings |
| MailerLite Power | $25 (500 subs), $39 (1,000) | $22.50 (500), $35.10 (1,000) | Up to 200,000 subscribers | Unlimited emails (fair use), seats, automations, sites, products and bookings |
| ActiveCampaign Starter | $19 | $15 | 1,000 contacts | 10,000 sends/month, 5 actions per automation, no landing pages, no payment or scheduling integrations |
| ActiveCampaign Plus | $59 | $49 | 1,000 contacts | Unlimited automation actions, landing pages, Calendly/Acuity and Stripe/PayPal integrations; pipelines are a paid add-on |
| ActiveCampaign Pro | $99 | $79 | 1,000 contacts | 12,000 sends/month, 3 seats, predictive sending, conditional content, attribution |
| ActiveCampaign Enterprise | $179 | $145 | 1,000 contacts | 15,000 sends/month, 5 seats, HIPAA support, custom objects, SSO |
A note on sources: ActiveCampaign's rendered pricing page shows only the per-month prices billed yearly. The monthly-billing figures above come from the pricing page's own catalog data, and its yearly totals divided by 12 match the rendered prices exactly. MailerLite's figures come from its official machine-readable pricing page, last updated September 8, 2026.

What does each cost as your list grows?
Both vendors publish prices by list size. At the sizes where both list a figure, MailerLite matches or undercuts ActiveCampaign at the entry level and is far cheaper once you need landing pages or unlimited automation steps, as the table shows (monthly billing).
| List size | MailerLite Comfort | MailerLite Power | ActiveCampaign Starter | ActiveCampaign Plus | ActiveCampaign Pro |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Coachful (any list size) | Flat monthly plans; lower plans cap the number of clients:Lite: $29/month for up to 5 clients; Solo: $49/month for up to 20 clients; Pro: $99/month with unlimited clients; Studio: $199/month with unlimited clients | ||||
| 500 | $12 | $25 | $19 (1,000 band) | $59 (1,000 band) | $99 (1,000 band) |
| 1,000 | $19 | $39 | $19 | $59 | $99 |
| 2,500 | $33 | $49 | $49 | $119 | $189 |
| 5,000 | $49 | $69 | Not listed in our data | Not listed in our data | Not listed in our data |
| 10,000 | $89 | $129 | Not listed in our data | Not listed in our data | Not listed in our data |
Two hidden cost points matter for coaches. First, the ActiveCampaign Enhanced CRM add-on, which unlocks deal pipelines, adds a base fee of $49 a month on Plus plus $19 per seat, according to the pricing catalog. Second, both tools move you up a band automatically when your list grows, so cleaning out inactive subscribers has a direct effect on your bill.
What does a full coaching stack cost around each tool?
An email tool is only one line in a coaching budget. As an illustrative example, a coach with 1,000 subscribers who sells a 12-week program would add up something like this:
- With MailerLite Comfort ($19/month): email, a website, landing pages and paid bookings are covered. You still need somewhere to host video lessons (MailerLite's own page says video courses "would typically be hosted elsewhere and linked"), a way to send and sign coaching agreements, and a place for client check-ins and habits.
- With ActiveCampaign Plus ($59/month): email, automations and landing pages are covered. You still need a scheduler, a checkout, a website, a course host, contracts and a client portal. If the course host is something like Kajabi, its Basic plan alone lists at $179 a month.
That is the real question behind most MailerLite vs ActiveCampaign searches: not which email tool is better, but how many other tools you will glue to it. Our GoHighLevel pricing breakdown and Calendly pricing guide cover two of the most common add-ons.
Which has better email automation, MailerLite or ActiveCampaign?
ActiveCampaign has the deeper automation builder; MailerLite's is good enough for most coaching funnels and much cheaper. The gap only matters once your sequences branch on behavior, purchase data or lead score.
MailerLite automation. The Free plan allows 3 active automations of 5 steps each. Comfort allows 50 automations with up to 100 steps each, and Power makes automations unlimited and adds multiple triggers per automation. Comfort also includes dynamic content, multivariate testing, auto-resend for unopened campaigns and an AI writing assistant. For a typical coach sequence (lead magnet delivery, a five-email welcome series, a discovery-call invitation, a post-purchase onboarding series), Comfort covers it.
ActiveCampaign automation. Starter caps each automation at 5 actions and is email-only, which is tight for a real nurture sequence. Plus removes the action cap and adds cross-channel marketing, sales automation, and integrations that feed booking and payment data into automations. Pro adds predictive sending, conditional content, advanced segmentation, split automations, an automations map and attribution tracking. The 950+ automation recipes and the AI-powered automation builder shorten setup if you know what you want.
Who needs ActiveCampaign's depth? A coach running paid ads into a webinar, then splitting attendees from no-shows, scoring engagement and handing hot leads to a sales caller. Who does not? A coach whose funnel is "download the guide, read five emails, book a call". More options also mean more to configure: every extra branch is another path to test before a new subscriber hits it.
If you are weighing other email tools too, our comparisons of ConvertKit vs MailerLite, Flodesk vs MailerLite and ActiveCampaign vs Mailchimp use the same criteria.
Which handles booking, payments and selling better?
MailerLite does, because it has built-in bookings and Stripe checkout with 0% MailerLite commission, while ActiveCampaign has neither and relies on integrations available only on Plus and above.
Booking sessions
MailerLite Bookings handles 1:1 and group sessions, free or paid through Stripe, with Google Calendar and Outlook/Microsoft 365 sync, and booking questions save to the subscriber's profile. On the Free plan you get one active event type, which shares its limit with digital products. Comfort allows 5 active products and bookings combined; Power is unlimited.
ActiveCampaign has no booking calendar. On Plus and above it integrates with Calendly, Acuity Scheduling and Eventbrite, so bookings can trigger automations, but you pay for the scheduler separately. Starter has no scheduling integration at all.
Taking payments
MailerLite sells digital downloads, paid newsletters and recurring subscriptions with "0% MailerLite commissions"; only Stripe's processing fee applies. Paid newsletters and recurring subscriptions need Comfort or Power. It does not issue coaching agreements.
ActiveCampaign does not process payments. Its PayPal and Stripe integrations (Plus and above) pull purchase data into automations so you can, for example, start an onboarding sequence after a sale, but the checkout lives in another tool.
Contracts and intake
Neither tool sends coaching agreements for e-signature. MailerLite's booking questions and surveys can collect intake answers; ActiveCampaign's forms can do the same on any plan, with custom-branded forms from Plus. For signed agreements you need a separate tool, or a platform that handles coaching contracts natively.
Which has better landing pages, websites and forms?
MailerLite, clearly: it includes a website with a blog and landing pages even on the Free plan, while ActiveCampaign has no website builder and keeps landing pages for Plus and above.
MailerLite's Free plan includes 1 website and 1 landing page and 3 active signup forms, with pop-ups and embedded forms. Comfort raises that to 10 websites and landing pages, adds custom domains and removes the MailerLite logo. Power makes all of them unlimited. For a coach who needs a homepage, an about page, a lead magnet page and a booking link, that is a usable starting site.
ActiveCampaign Starter offers only standard and inline forms. Plus adds landing pages, site messages and custom branding on forms and pages. There is no full website builder, so you would still keep a separate site.
Neither is a coaching website in the sense of selling programs with checkout, contracts and booking on one page. If that matters, see our guide to a coach website builder.
How do they handle contacts, CRM and data export?
ActiveCampaign has the stronger contact CRM, with lead scoring, deal scores and (paid) pipelines; MailerLite keeps a simpler subscriber database with groups, segments and fields. Both export contacts to CSV, and neither exports contact notes.
- ActiveCampaign: contact records, tags, custom fields, lead and deal scores. Deal pipelines need the Enhanced CRM add-on on Plus or above. Enterprise adds custom objects and Salesforce or Microsoft Dynamics integrations. Exports go to CSV with standard and custom fields, scores and tags in one column; the download link stays valid for 7 days; contact notes cannot be exported.
- MailerLite: subscribers, groups, segments and custom fields, with a preference center on Comfort. Admins export subscribers as CSV or CSV for Excel, and only visible columns are exported; subscriber notes cannot be exported. Campaign and automation reports export as CSV, and custom report exports need a paid plan.
For coaches, the CRM question is usually smaller than it looks. You rarely need a multi-stage deal board; you need to see which leads booked a discovery call, who signed, who paid and who has gone quiet. Our guide to managing coaching pipelines without ActiveCampaign walks through a lighter setup, and coaching CRM explains what a coaching-specific record holds.
On compliance, ActiveCampaign lists HIPAA support on Enterprise only. MailerLite stores data in the EU. If you handle clinical health information, check each vendor's terms directly and keep clinical records in a clinical system.
What does your client actually experience with each?
With either tool, your client experiences you through their inbox: emails, a form, maybe a booking page. Neither MailerLite nor ActiveCampaign has a client portal, client app, coaching programs, habit tracking or check-ins.
That is fine for marketing. It is a gap for delivery. Once someone pays, a coaching client usually needs a place to see their next session, this week's tasks, the worksheet you shared, their progress and a way to message you. With an email tool at the center, that ends up spread across a scheduler confirmation, a shared drive folder, a course host login and a chat app. Our guide on managing client emails without ActiveCampaign covers how coaches separate marketing email from client communication.

The client side is where an all-in-one coaching platform differs most from either email tool: clients log into one branded home for sessions, programs, habits and check-ins, and the marketing emails come from the same system that holds their client record.
Which should you pick for which kind of coach?
Pick by what you are building this year, not by feature count. The table below matches common coaching setups to the better of the two, and flags when neither is the right center of your stack.
| Your situation | Best pick | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Coachful: you sell programs and want booking, payments, delivery and email in one login | Coachful | One client record from lead to renewal, with a branded client app; marketing email included in your Coachful membership |
| New coach, under 250 subscribers, no budget yet | MailerLite Free | Free forever, a website, one booking type and 3 automations |
| Newsletter-led coach selling a paid newsletter or downloads | MailerLite Comfort | Paid newsletters and recurring subscriptions with 0% MailerLite commission |
| Coach with ads, webinars and branching nurture sequences | ActiveCampaign Plus or Pro | Unlimited automation actions, conditional content, attribution |
| Coaching business with a sales team working leads | ActiveCampaign Plus with Enhanced CRM | Deal pipelines and sales automation (paid add-on) |
| Coach handling clinical health records | Neither as your record system | Use a clinical system; ActiveCampaign lists HIPAA support only on Enterprise |

Is there a third option? Coachful, when it beats both and when it does not
Yes. If you are comparing MailerLite and ActiveCampaign because you need email for a coaching business, Coachful replaces the email tool and the four or five tools around it. If you only need email marketing, one of the two is the simpler buy.

What Coachful is and who it is for
Coachful is a coaching platform. One subscription covers booking, payments, contracts, program delivery with habits and check-ins, courses, a community, a website with funnels and email, and an AI assistant, with one login for the coach and one branded app for the client. It is built for coaches who deliver programs, not just sessions; for solo coaches growing into a small team; and for coaches replacing 4 to 6 tools. The company is based in Tallinn, Estonia, and holds a 4.5 Trustpilot score from 21 reviews as of October 2026.
Current plans: Lite: $29/month for up to 5 clients; Solo: $49/month for up to 20 clients; Pro: $99/month with unlimited clients; Studio: $199/month with unlimited clients. Plans are flat and monthly, lower plans cap the number of clients, Pro is unlimited, team plans add coach seats, and monthly plans cancel in one click. There is a free trial.
Where Coachful beats both
- Email that knows who your clients are. Email lists, broadcasts and multi-step sequences with triggers, delays, branching and A/B splits sit on the same records as sessions, payments and check-ins, so a sequence can follow what a client actually did.
- Booking built in. Booking pages with availability rules, buffers, minimum notice and time-zone detection; two-way Google, Apple/iCloud and Outlook sync; built-in video or auto-created Zoom, Meet or Teams links; email reminders plus SMS and WhatsApp reminders once messaging is enabled.
- Payments without a platform fee. Payments run through your own Stripe Connect or Razorpay account: one-time, subscriptions, payment plans, order bumps, coupons, Apple Pay and Google Pay. Coachful takes a 0% platform fee (since August 2026); only Stripe or Razorpay processing applies.
- Agreements before the first call. Coaching agreements with e-signature, stored on the client record.
- Delivery between sessions. Multi-week programs with weekly goals, daily tasks, habits, morning and evening check-ins, goals with progress bars and streaks; courses with drip and completion tracking; a community feed with cohort groups created automatically on enrollment.
- Funnels and a website. A section-based website builder with blog, custom domain and 30 designed homepage templates, plus booking, application, lead-magnet and checkout funnels with pixels and UTM tracking.
- Instagram to client record. Instagram automations reply to a keyword comment or DM with your booking link, lead magnet or checkout, and the person lands in the same lead and client records.

Here is a short walkthrough of how email works inside Coachful:
And here is what program delivery looks like for your clients between sessions:

Where MailerLite or ActiveCampaign still beats Coachful
- A permanent free plan. MailerLite's Free plan has no time limit. Coachful offers a trial, then paid plans only.
- Pure email at the lowest cost. If all you need is a newsletter for a small list, MailerLite at $12 a month for 500 subscribers is hard to beat.
- Sales-team CRM. ActiveCampaign's Enhanced CRM gives deal pipelines and sales engagement for teams; Coachful has no multi-stage sales deal board for large teams and no Salesforce or HubSpot integration.
- HIPAA. ActiveCampaign lists HIPAA support on Enterprise. Coachful is not HIPAA-certified and offers no BAA, so it is not for clinical record-keeping or insurance billing.
- PayPal. ActiveCampaign integrates PayPal on Plus and above. Coachful does not support PayPal.
- Your own App Store listing. Coachful's client app ships under the Coachful listing with your branding, not in your own App Store account.
Why Coachful stands out: a free white-glove service. On every plan, you can ask the Coachful team to build things for you from Create > We'll build it for you: a website, funnel, sales page, program, course outline, email sequence or newsletter, link in bio, lead quiz, event or automation. You attach up to 8 reference links and up to 10 files (logos, photos, brand guides, copy), and the team builds it inside your own account, usually within about 24 hours. Nothing is invented: no fake credentials, testimonials or prices, and gaps are left for you to fill. It does not include recording videos, logo design, ad management or ongoing marketing. Read more in how the free white-glove service works.
Recent anonymized builds show the range. A business mentor for beauty professionals got a 12-week mentorship sales page, a free start-up-guide funnel and rewritten follow-up emails. A real-estate and money coach got a year-long cohort program with an application form, an eight-page site and a free nine-day bootcamp funnel. For a coach moving off an email tool, the follow-up email rewrite is often the piece that saves the most evenings.

What Coachful does not do
Coachful is not a course marketplace, not a general website builder for non-coaching sites, and has no third-party plugins. It has no Garmin, Fitbit, Whoop or Oura sync and no stock exercise videos. It has no routing forms that pick a host from form answers, and its affiliate program tracks links, clicks, conversions and revenue but records payouts manually rather than sending them.
How to start
Start a free trial, then use the white-glove build request to have your site, funnel or welcome sequence built in your account. During onboarding, clients, programs and content are imported for you. If you are leaving MailerLite or ActiveCampaign, export your contacts to CSV first, then bring them in. For a full feature tour, see Coachful's coaching software overview or the comparison hub.
How do you switch between MailerLite, ActiveCampaign or Coachful without losing your list?
Export a full CSV of contacts with tags and custom fields, recreate your segments as tags or groups in the new tool, rebuild your core sequences, then run both tools in parallel for one billing cycle. Contact notes do not export from either MailerLite or ActiveCampaign, so copy any notes you need by hand.
- Export. In ActiveCampaign, export all contacts from the Contacts overview; the download link lasts 7 days. In MailerLite, export subscribers as CSV from the Subscribers page; only visible columns export, so show every field first.
- Map fields. Decide which tags and fields matter. Most coaches need: source, lead magnet, client status, program, and consent date.
- Rebuild the essential sequences. Welcome series, lead magnet delivery, discovery-call follow-up, post-purchase onboarding. Leave old, unused automations behind.
- Warm up sending. Send your first broadcasts to your most engaged subscribers, then widen.
- Cancel the old plan once a full cycle of sequences has run cleanly in the new tool.
For tools at the center of a coaching business, the life coach, business coach and health coach pages show which setup fits each niche. Health coaches should remember that coaching is not medical treatment: refer clients to a doctor or licensed clinician for diagnosis, medication or symptoms that need clinical care.
Frequently asked questions about MailerLite vs ActiveCampaign
Is MailerLite cheaper than ActiveCampaign?
Mostly yes. At 1,000 subscribers, MailerLite Comfort is $19 a month and Power $39, while ActiveCampaign Starter is $19 and Plus $59 on monthly billing. At 2,500, MailerLite Comfort is $33 against ActiveCampaign Plus at $119.
Does MailerLite have a free plan and does ActiveCampaign?
MailerLite has a permanent Free plan for up to 250 active subscribers and 2,500 emails a month. ActiveCampaign has no free plan; it offers a 14-day free trial with no credit card and a 30-day refund guarantee on paid plans.
Is ActiveCampaign's automation worth the extra cost for coaches?
Only if your funnel branches heavily on behavior, ads data or purchase data, or a sales team works your leads. For a lead magnet, welcome series and discovery-call invitation, MailerLite Comfort handles it for much less. Note that ActiveCampaign Starter caps each automation at 5 actions, so most coaches who choose it end up on Plus.
Can I book coaching sessions in MailerLite or ActiveCampaign?
MailerLite has built-in Bookings for 1:1 and group sessions, free or paid through Stripe, with Google and Outlook calendar sync. ActiveCampaign has no booking calendar; it integrates with Calendly, Acuity Scheduling and Eventbrite on Plus and above.
Can I sell coaching programs with either tool?
MailerLite can sell digital products, paid newsletters and recurring subscriptions with 0% MailerLite commission through Stripe, but it does not host video courses or deliver programs to clients. ActiveCampaign does not process payments at all. To sell and deliver a program in one place, you need a coaching platform.
Which is easier to learn, MailerLite or ActiveCampaign?
MailerLite has fewer settings to learn, and its plans offer drag and drop, simple and custom HTML editors. ActiveCampaign does more, so it has more to configure, but it offers 950+ automation recipes and an AI automation builder to shorten setup. Both offer a 14-day trial, so build your real welcome sequence in each before deciding.
What is Coachful's free white-glove service?
On every Coachful plan, you can ask the team to build a website, funnel, sales page, program, email sequence or similar inside your own account, usually within about 24 hours. You supply links and files; nothing is invented, and gaps are left for you. It does not cover video recording, logo design, ads or ongoing marketing.
Does Coachful replace MailerLite or ActiveCampaign?
For most coaches, yes: email lists, broadcasts and multi-step sequences are included in your Coachful membership, alongside booking, payments, programs and a client app. If you need a permanent free plan, PayPal, HIPAA support or a sales-team deal pipeline, keep MailerLite or ActiveCampaign for that job.
Can I export my contacts if I leave?
Yes. Both MailerLite and ActiveCampaign export contacts to CSV, though neither exports contact notes. Coachful exports full client data as a ZIP, including roster, notes, check-ins, goals, habits, sessions and form responses.
