Flodesk vs ConvertKit for Coaches: Honest 2026 Comparison

Flodesk vs ConvertKit for Coaches: Honest 2026 Comparison

Flodesk vs ConvertKit comes down to one question: do you want beautiful emails at a low price for a small list, or a deeper creator toolkit with a usable free plan? As listed in October 2026, Flodesk's paid plans start at $25 a month ($19 billed annually) for up to 1,000 subscribers, and its free plan cannot send email. Kit, the new name for ConvertKit, lets you send to up to 10,000 subscribers for free, but its automations and sequences start on the Creator plan at $39 a month. Neither tool books sessions, keeps client notes or delivers a coaching program.

That last point is why this comparison matters more for coaches than for bloggers. An email tool is one piece of a coaching business. Below we compare Flodesk and Kit on price, design, automations, selling, deliverability and what your clients experience, then show where an all-in-one coaching platform replaces both. We make Coachful, one of those platforms, so we say plainly when Flodesk or Kit is the better pick. Vendor facts come from each company's own pricing pages and help center, checked on October 25, 2026.

Flodesk or Kit: which should a coach pick?

Pick Flodesk if design and a flat, low monthly cost matter most; pick Kit if you want to send free while your list is small or you are building a newsletter as a product. If you also need booking, payments for coaching packages and somewhere for clients to do the work between sessions, neither one covers it on its own.

  • You want polished, on-brand emails and a few landing pages: Flodesk. Its whole pitch is design, and its paid plans are cheaper than Kit's at 1,000 subscribers.
  • You are starting from zero and do not want to pay yet: Kit. Its free plan sends broadcasts to up to 10,000 subscribers. Flodesk's free plan lets you collect subscribers but not email them.
  • You want a welcome sequence or nurture automation: both need a paid plan. Flodesk Pro (from $28 a month) includes unlimited workflows; Kit Creator (from $39 a month) includes visual automations and sequences.
  • You sell a digital product or a membership by email: Kit Commerce works on the free plan for a per-sale fee. Flodesk's full checkout, sales pages and payment plans sit on its Everything plan.
  • You grow by newsletter recommendations and referrals: Kit, with its Creator Network, paid recommendations and the SparkLoop referral system on Pro.
  • You run 1:1 or group coaching and are juggling an email tool, a scheduler, a payment link, a course host and a group chat: look at an all-in-one coaching platform such as Coachful, covered in its own section below.

How do Flodesk and Kit compare side by side?

Flodesk is a design-led email and landing page tool with optional checkout; Kit is a creator email platform with a generous free tier and built-in digital product sales. The table puts both next to Coachful so you can see what an email tool covers and what it leaves to other software.

Ratings are as listed on Trustpilot in October 2026. Treat them as a signal of how customers feel about support and billing, not as a feature score: Coachful's count is much smaller than the other two.

How much do Flodesk and Kit cost in 2026?

At 1,000 subscribers, Flodesk is cheaper: $25 a month on Lite or $28 on Pro, against $39 on Kit Creator and $79 on Kit Pro, as listed in October 2026. Kit is the only one of the two that lets you send email for free, which changes the math while your list is under 10,000 people and you only need broadcasts.

Flodesk pricing page with its subscriber-based plans.
Flodesk's pricing page in October 2026.

Both tools price by subscriber count. Flodesk changed this in December 2025: its old flat-rate plan was retired for new members on December 2, 2025 (existing members keep it), and new plans now rise with your number of active subscribers. Flodesk counts only active subscribers. Kit's paid prices also scale with subscriber count. Kit's own pricing page blocked our fetcher, so the Kit figures below come from Kit's help center.

ToolFree planEntry paid planMiddle planTop planAnnual billingTrial
CoachfulNo permanent free planLite: $29/month for up to 5 clientsFor 15 clients: Solo: $49/month for up to 20 clientsUnlimited clients: Pro: $99/month with unlimited clientsFlat monthly plans; lower plans cap the number of clients; monthly plans cancel in one clickA free trial

Two details are easy to miss. First, Flodesk's Pro plan can climb steeply on a large list: at the top of its slider (255,000 subscribers) Pro reaches about $1,589 a month on monthly billing. Second, Flodesk Lite tops out at 25,000 subscribers, so a fast-growing list will force a move to Pro or Everything. For the full breakdown of Flodesk's tiers, see our Flodesk pricing guide.

What does a typical coach actually pay?

Here is a worked example, not a quote. Say you have 800 subscribers, want a five-email welcome sequence and plan to sell one digital workbook by email.

  • Flodesk: you need Pro for unlimited workflows ($28 a month, or $25 billed annually). Selling the workbook through a real checkout means Everything ($54 a month, or $49 billed annually), unless you use Pro's limited-time bonus of one checkout.
  • Kit: the welcome sequence needs Creator ($39 a month). Kit Commerce works on any plan, so the workbook costs nothing extra up front, only the per-sale fee.

On this example, Flodesk is cheaper for the sequence alone, and the gap narrows or flips once you need Flodesk's Everything plan for selling. Then add what neither tool covers: a scheduler (compare costs in our Calendly pricing guide), a contract and invoicing tool (see HoneyBook pricing), and somewhere to host a course or community. That stack total is the number to compare against an all-in-one platform.

What does each one charge when you sell something?

Kit Commerce charges 3.5% plus $0.30 per USD transaction, all-in, with card processing included. Flodesk does not state a fee of its own; through Flodesk Checkout you pay Stripe's processing, listed at 3% plus $0.30 on Stripe Express in the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

Kit (formerly ConvertKit)Kit Commerce (built in, Stripe-backed)Included in the all-in rate$3.80 (3.5% + $0.30); other currencies vary slightlyDigital products and subscriptions only

For a coach, the bigger difference is what you can sell. Kit documents that it fulfills digital products only: a PDF, a paid newsletter, a recording. Flodesk's Everything plan adds sales pages, funnels, subscriptions, payment plans and abandoned-cart automations, which gets closer to selling a coaching package. Neither tool books the sessions a client just paid for, or sends a coaching agreement before the first call. If you coach outside the six regions Flodesk Checkout supports, that list matters before you build a funnel around it.

Which one makes better-looking emails?

Flodesk is built around design, and that is the main reason coaches choose it over Kit. Its free plan already includes unlimited templates, forms, landing pages and link-in-bio pages, so you can design your whole sign-up flow before paying anything.

Kit's documented strengths sit around the newsletter and the writing: broadcast A/B tests on every plan, email content A/B tests and collaborative editing on Pro, and an engagement score for subscribers. If your emails are mostly text from you to your readers, Kit's approach fits. If your brand is visual (photography, wellness, lifestyle coaching), Flodesk's templates are what you are paying for.

One brand detail: Flodesk shows its footer on emails until you reach Pro, which lets you hide it. Our Flodesk review covers the editor and templates in more depth.

Which has better automations and sequences?

Kit has the wider automation toolkit; Flodesk has the cheaper entry point to unlimited automation. Kit Creator includes visual automations, email sequences, rules, RSS, AI connectors and paid apps. Flodesk Pro includes unlimited workflows.

For a coach, the automations that matter are usually simple:

  1. A welcome sequence after someone downloads your free guide.
  2. A nurture sequence that invites people to book a discovery call.
  3. A follow-up after a purchase, and a reminder when a cart is abandoned.
  4. A tag or segment for people who clicked a specific offer.

Both tools handle these four. Where they stop is the moment the subscriber becomes a client. Neither tool knows whether a client booked their next session, missed a check-in, or finished week three of your program, because that information lives in other software. Automations triggered by coaching activity need a platform that holds the coaching activity.

In Coachful, email lists, broadcasts and multi-step sequences with triggers, delays, branching and A/B splits sit in the same account as your bookings, programs and client records. The walkthrough below shows the email side.

How do deliverability, segmentation and data export compare?

Kit Pro adds deliverability reporting; Flodesk offers a dedicated IP add-on on Pro and Everything (price not shown). Segmentation is available on both free plans: Flodesk includes segmentation on Free, and Kit includes tagging and segmentation on Free.

Whichever tool you choose, inbox placement depends heavily on your sending domain being authenticated with SPF, DKIM and DMARC records. If those terms are new, the overview of email authentication on Wikipedia explains how they work. Both tools guide you through setup, and it is worth doing before your first broadcast.

On data portability, Kit's help center documents exporting all subscribers or a segment to CSV from the dashboard. We did not find Flodesk's export process documented on the pages we checked, so confirm it with Flodesk before you commit a large list.

What are the legal basics for emailing your list?

In the US, the FTC's CAN-SPAM compliance guide requires a valid physical postal address in commercial emails, a clear way to opt out, and honoring opt-outs within 10 business days. In the EU and UK, consent rules for marketing email come from the ePrivacy Directive and national laws built on it. Requirements vary by country, so check with an attorney if you email people in several regions.

What do your clients experience with each?

With Flodesk or Kit, your clients experience your emails, your landing pages and your checkout. After they pay, the relationship moves somewhere else: a calendar link, a video call, a shared document, a group chat, maybe a course site with another login.

That is fine for a newsletter reader. It is less fine for a coaching client who paid for a 12-week program and now has four logins and no single place to see what to do this week.

In Coachful, the client gets one branded home and app, under your branding inside the Coachful app. They see their next session, their program week, daily tasks, habits, morning and evening check-ins, goals with progress bars, courses, downloads and the community feed. You see the other side of it: each client's check-ins, habits, notes, intake answers, payments and sessions on one record, with a status of thriving, active, quiet or at risk.

If you only email people and never coach them, this section does not apply to you, and Flodesk or Kit is the simpler choice.

Which should you pick for your kind of coaching?

Match the tool to how you earn: a list-first business suits Kit, a design-first brand suits Flodesk, and a client-delivery business suits a coaching platform. The table gives a starting point.

ToolPick it if you are...Skip it if you are...
CoachfulA coach selling 1:1 packages, group programs or courses who wants booking, payments, contracts, program delivery, community, website and email under one loginRunning a newsletter as the product, need a permanent free plan, or need HIPAA compliance
FlodeskA coach with a visual brand who mostly needs good-looking emails, sign-up forms and a few landing pages, on a list under 25,000 on LiteOutside Flodesk Checkout's supported regions, or planning to grow a very large list on Pro
Kit (formerly ConvertKit)A coach or creator whose newsletter is a main growth channel, who wants to start free and use recommendations and referralsWanting automations without paying, or wanting to sell coaching packages rather than digital products
  • New coaches with no list yet: Kit's free plan lets you send right away. If you also need a website and a way to take bookings and payments, compare that with starting on a platform built for new coaches.
  • Life and mindset coaches who sell programs: your clients need somewhere to work between sessions. See how this works for life coaches.
  • Coaches running cohorts: email reaches the group, but the group needs a shared space. See group coaching software.
  • Coaches selling courses alongside coaching: neither email tool hosts a course portal; see course hosting for coaches.

Our Flodesk alternatives for coaches article covers more options if neither tool fits.

Is there a third option that replaces both?

Yes, if you coach clients rather than only email a list. Coachful is a coaching platform that includes email lists, broadcasts and sequences in the same subscription as booking, payments, contracts, programs, courses, community, a website with funnels, and an AI assistant. It beats both Flodesk and Kit when your email list exists to fill a coaching practice. It does not beat them when the newsletter is the business.

What Coachful is and who it is for

Coachful is built for coaches who deliver programs, not just sessions; for solo coaches growing into a small team; and for coaches replacing four to six tools. The company is based in Tallinn, Estonia. One subscription covers the coach's login and one branded client app.

  • Email and funnels: email lists, broadcasts and multi-step sequences with triggers, delays, branching and A/B splits; booking, application, lead-magnet and checkout funnels with pixels and UTM tracking; a link-in-bio page that sells.
  • Website: a section-based website builder with a blog, custom domain, SEO settings, 30 designed homepage templates and an Import website option.
  • Booking: booking pages with availability rules, buffers, minimum notice and time-zone detection; two-way Google, Apple/iCloud and Outlook sync; built-in video or auto-created Zoom, Meet and Teams links; email reminders, plus SMS and WhatsApp reminders once messaging is enabled.
  • Payments: one-time payments, subscriptions, payment plans, order bumps, coupons and refunds through your own Stripe Connect or Razorpay account, with a 0% Coachful platform fee.
  • Agreements: coaching agreements with e-signature sent before the first call and stored on the client record.
  • Delivery: multi-week programs with weekly goals, daily tasks, habits, check-ins and streaks; courses with drip and completion tracking; a community feed, group chat and cohort groups created automatically on enrollment.
  • AI: Michelle, the built-in AI assistant, works from your live practice data to draft emails and content, build programs, summarize recorded sessions and brief you before sessions. Questions and planning are included in your membership; confirmed builds and changes use AI credits.

Where Coachful beats Flodesk and Kit

  • One login for the whole client journey. A subscriber who joins from a lead magnet, books a call, signs your agreement, pays and starts your program stays in one account, on one record.
  • Delivery between sessions. Habits, check-ins, program weeks and community live where your client already logs in. Flodesk and Kit stop at the inbox.
  • Total stack cost. Instead of an email tool plus a scheduler, an invoicing tool, a course host and a community app, the features are included in your Coachful membership (current plans: Lite: $29/month for up to 5 clients; Solo: $49/month for up to 20 clients; Pro: $99/month with unlimited clients; Studio: $199/month with unlimited clients).
  • Flat plans by client count. Coachful's plans are flat monthly plans; lower plans cap the number of clients and Pro is unlimited.
  • Setup effort. Clients, programs and content are imported for you during onboarding, and the white-glove build below covers the rest.

Where Flodesk or Kit is the better choice

  • Your newsletter is the product. Kit's Creator Network recommendations, paid recommendations and SparkLoop referrals are built for growing a newsletter audience, and that is not what Coachful is built around.
  • You need a permanent free plan. Kit's free plan sends to 10,000 subscribers. Coachful has a free trial but no permanent free plan.
  • You only need email. If you do not book sessions, take payments for coaching or deliver programs, a dedicated email tool is simpler.
  • You need PayPal or HIPAA. Coachful has no PayPal and is not HIPAA-certified (no BAA), so it is not for clinical record-keeping or insurance billing.
  • You need a general website for a non-coaching business, a course marketplace or third-party plugins. Coachful does not offer those.

Coachful's client app ships under the Coachful listing with your branding, not under your own App Store account, and there is no Salesforce or HubSpot integration. Integrations cover Google Calendar, Apple Calendar/iCloud, Outlook, Zoom, Google Meet, Teams, Stripe, Razorpay, Zapier, Meta Pixel and GA4.

How to start

Start a free trial, then either build from the templates (more than 40 program templates, 48 course templates and about 25 funnel templates) or ask the team to build it for you.

Why Coachful stands out: a free white-glove service. On every plan, you can open Create and choose "We'll build it for you · FREE", then describe what you want built: a website, funnel, sales page, program, course outline and written material, email sequence or newsletter, link in bio, lead quiz, webinar, automation and more. You can attach up to 8 reference links and up to 10 files such as logos, photos, brand guides and copy. The Coachful team builds it inside your own account, usually within about 24 hours. Nothing gets invented: no fake credentials, testimonials or prices, and gaps are left for you to fill. It does not include recording videos, logo design, ad management or ongoing marketing. Recent anonymized builds include a business mentor for beauty professionals who got a 12-week mentorship sales page, a free start-up-guide funnel and rewritten follow-up emails, and a real-estate and money coach who got a year-long cohort program with an application form, an eight-page site and a free nine-day bootcamp funnel. A coach leaving Flodesk or Kit could ask for a rewritten welcome sequence and a lead-magnet funnel the same way.

What other tools do coaches weigh against Flodesk and Kit?

Systeme.io and Kajabi come up most often, because both bundle email with funnels and courses. Here is how they look as listed in October 2026.

Systeme.io

Systeme.io homepage introducing its all-in-one marketing suite for funnels, email and courses.
Systeme.io's homepage in October 2026.

Systeme.io is a low-cost marketing suite with funnels, email, courses, community, a blog and an affiliate program. Its free plan never expires and includes 2,000 contacts, 3 funnels, 1 course, 1 automation rule and 1 email campaign. Paid plans are Startup at $17 a month (5,000 contacts), Webinar at $47 a month (10,000 contacts) and Unlimited at $97 a month. It charges 0% transaction fees on every plan, with Stripe or PayPal processing. It has no native 1:1 scheduling with client records, habits or check-ins. Pick it over Coachful if you mainly sell courses and funnels on a tight budget and want PayPal checkout.

Kajabi

Kajabi homepage presenting its platform for courses, communities and knowledge products.
Kajabi's homepage in October 2026.

Kajabi is a course, community, website, funnel and email platform for selling knowledge products. Basic is $179 a month ($143 billed annually) with 5 products and 2,500 contacts; Growth is $249 a month ($199 annually); Pro is $499 a month ($399 annually). Kajabi Payments in the US runs 2.7% to 2.9% plus $0.30 depending on plan, and other processors except PayPal add a Kajabi fee of 0.5% to 2%. It has no habit tracking or daily client check-ins. Pick it over Coachful if your business is mostly courses and a large community, and you can afford its higher entry price. Our Kajabi pricing guide has the details.

How do you move your list from Flodesk or Kit without losing subscribers?

Export your subscribers with their tags or segments, import them with the same consent status, authenticate your sending domain on the new tool, then switch your forms over before you cancel the old plan.

  1. Export. In Kit, export all subscribers or a segment to CSV from the dashboard. For Flodesk, confirm the export steps with Flodesk support, since we did not find them documented on the pages we checked.
  2. Keep consent records. Import only people who opted in, and keep the unsubscribed list so you never email them again.
  3. Rebuild tags as segments. Map each tag (for example, "downloaded the guide" or "bought the workbook") before you import.
  4. Authenticate your domain. Add the SPF, DKIM and DMARC records your new tool gives you.
  5. Rebuild your sequences. Recreate the welcome and nurture sequences, and test each step with your own address.
  6. Switch forms and links. Update the forms on your website, your link in bio and any lead magnet pages.
  7. Send a gentle first email. Start with your most engaged subscribers before broadcasting to the whole list.

If you move to Coachful, clients, programs and content are imported for you during onboarding, and you can ask the white-glove team to rebuild your email sequence. Coachful also exports your full client data as a ZIP (roster, notes, check-ins, goals, habits, sessions and form responses) if you ever leave. See how Coachful compares with other tools.

Frequently asked questions

Is ConvertKit the same as Kit?

Yes. ConvertKit now operates as Kit, and its help center and plans use the Kit name. The product is the same creator email platform, with Free, Creator and Pro plans as listed in October 2026.

Is Flodesk cheaper than Kit?

At 1,000 subscribers, yes: Flodesk Lite is $25 a month and Pro is $28, against $39 for Kit Creator and $79 for Kit Pro. But Kit's free plan sends to up to 10,000 subscribers and Flodesk's free plan cannot send email, so for a coach who only needs broadcasts, Kit can cost nothing.

Can I send emails on Flodesk's free plan?

No. Flodesk's free plan includes unlimited forms, landing pages, link-in-bio pages, templates and segmentation, but email sending starts on Lite. Flodesk offers a 14-day trial with no credit card required.

Which is better for automations, Flodesk or Kit?

Kit offers more automation features on Creator, including visual automations, sequences, rules and RSS. Flodesk includes unlimited workflows from Pro, at a lower starting price. For simple welcome and nurture sequences, both are enough.

Can Flodesk or Kit book coaching sessions?

No. Neither tool includes scheduling, client records or session management. Coaches using either one usually add a separate scheduler, which is one reason coaches compare them with an all-in-one platform.

What fees do Flodesk and Kit charge on sales?

Kit Commerce charges 3.5% plus $0.30 per USD transaction, including card processing. Flodesk does not state its own fee; Flodesk Checkout passes through Stripe's processing, listed at 3% plus $0.30 on Stripe Express in the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

Does Coachful replace Flodesk or Kit?

For most coaches who sell and deliver coaching, yes: email lists, broadcasts and multi-step sequences are included in your Coachful membership, alongside booking, payments, programs and community. If your newsletter is the business itself, or you need a permanent free plan, Kit remains the better fit.

What is Coachful's free white-glove service?

It is a free build service on every plan: you describe what you need, such as a website, funnel, email sequence or program, and attach up to 8 links and 10 files. The Coachful team builds it inside your account, usually within about 24 hours, without inventing credentials, testimonials or prices. It does not cover recording videos, logo design, ads or ongoing marketing.

Is Coachful HIPAA-compliant?

No. Coachful is not HIPAA-certified and does not sign a BAA, so it is not for clinical record-keeping or insurance billing. Coaching is not treatment; health coaches who work with clients who need medical or mental health care should refer them to a licensed professional.

Can I try Flodesk, Kit and Coachful before paying?

Yes. Flodesk and Kit both offer 14-day trials with no credit card required, and Kit also has a permanent free plan. Coachful offers a free trial, and the white-glove build is free on every plan.
