Buffer Review 2026: Is It Worth It for Coaches?

This Buffer review comes down to one finding: Buffer is a fair, low-cost social media scheduler that does its narrow job well, and it stops at the post. If you only need to publish to a few networks on a schedule, it is one of the easier tools to justify. If you need the person who sees that post to book, pay, sign and start a program, Buffer has nothing for those steps, and you will be paying for other tools to cover them.
We make Coachful, a coaching platform with a built-in social planner, so read our recommendation with that in mind. Buffer's facts below come from its own pricing page, pricing notes and help center as listed in October 2026. We have not run a hands-on test, so we report what Buffer documents, and we say plainly where we have less to go on.
Is Buffer worth it for coaches? The short verdict
Buffer is worth it for a coach whose only gap is consistent social publishing. It is not worth building a practice around, because it does not touch booking, payments, contracts, programs or client records.
- Who it suits: a coach who already has booking and delivery sorted, posts to one to three networks, and wants a calm calendar, simple analytics and comment replies at a small monthly cost.
- Who should skip it: a coach who wants comment-to-DM automation, a link page that takes payment, or one login for the whole client journey. Buffer lists none of these.
- Public rating: 4.2 on Trustpilot from 146 reviews, seen on 28 October 2026.
- Price: a Free plan for up to 3 channels, then Essentials from $6 per channel per month, or $5 per channel per month billed yearly, as listed in October 2026.
- Our recommendation: for most working coaches, a platform that covers publishing and the steps after it is the better buy. For us that is Coachful, and the honest exceptions are set out below.
What is Buffer?
Buffer is a social media scheduler: you write posts, place them on a calendar, and it publishes them. Around that core sit an AI Assistant for writing, an Insights analytics area, a community inbox for comments, a Start Page link-in-bio page and an API.

As listed in October 2026, it publishes to Instagram, Facebook Pages, TikTok, LinkedIn, X, YouTube (Shorts), Threads, Pinterest, Google Business Profile, Bluesky, Mastodon and Substack. Instagram personal profiles and Facebook groups are reminder-only, so Buffer nudges you and you post by hand. A coach who runs most of their marketing in a Facebook group should note that limit before signing up.
The product's shape matters more than any single feature. Buffer does not process payments for your products or services, and it has no booking calendar, client records, programs or courses. That is a choice about scope, and within that scope the product is tidy. It simply means that Buffer is one line in a stack, never the stack itself.
What does Buffer do for each part of a coaching business?
Buffer mainly helps with one of the five jobs a coaching business has to do, which is marketing. The table below sets it against Coachful job by job, and the notes after it give the detail.
| Tool | Marketing | Selling | Delivery | Client experience | Admin |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Coachful | Social planner, website with blog, funnels, email sequences, Instagram automations | Booking, checkout through your own Stripe or Razorpay, contracts with e-signature | Multi-week programs, habits, check-ins, courses, group calls | Your branding inside the Coachful app, community, client home | Client records, invoices, data export, ICF hour tracking |
| Buffer | Scheduling on 12 networks, AI writing help, analytics, comment replies, Start Page | None; no payments or booking | None | None; clients never log in | Team approvals and permissions on Team, Insights exports on paid plans, API |
Marketing: where Buffer earns its place
This is the whole product, and it covers the basics well. The visual calendar, a place for post ideas and the AI Assistant are available on every plan, and the assistant is listed as unlimited even on Free. It helps write and repurpose posts, which suits a coach turning one workshop into several smaller pieces.
Essentials adds the tools a regular poster tends to want: unlimited ideas, unlimited Insights history, a performance overview, custom analytics, reports, custom UTM parameters, a hashtag manager, channel groups, custom video covers and first-comment scheduling on Instagram and LinkedIn. Custom UTM parameters are the most useful of these for a coach, because they let you see which posts brought people to your booking page in your own web analytics.
The community inbox handles comments, with AI reply suggestions (5 per week and 1 saved reply on Free, unlimited on Essentials). Direct messages are not part of it, and no DM or auto-reply automation is listed. For many coaches that is the biggest gap, since a conversation about working together usually starts in a DM. If that describes your funnel, read our ManyChat review too, or see how a built-in option works in the Coachful section below.
Selling: not covered
Buffer has no way to take a payment, sell a package or book a discovery call. The Start Page is a simple link-in-bio landing page. It can point somewhere else, and whatever happens there is a separate tool and a separate login. If you want the link page itself to sell, compare our Stan Store review and our Calendly review for the booking side.
Delivery and client experience: not covered
Your clients will never see Buffer. It has no programs, no habits or check-ins, no courses and no community, and it does not claim to. A post on Buffer's calendar ends the moment it publishes, while a coaching relationship starts well after that.
Admin: small but useful
Team plans add unlimited users, approval workflows, custom access levels and branded reports, which helps if a virtual assistant drafts your posts and you approve them. Paid plans export Insights as CSV, Markdown or PDF, and chart snapshots download as images on every plan. Scheduled posts cannot be exported directly, although an API is available on all plans, so moving a large queue elsewhere takes some manual work or some technical help.
How much does Buffer cost?
Buffer charges per connected channel, from $6 per channel per month, or $5 per channel per month billed yearly, on top of a Free plan for up to 3 channels. Each social account is one channel, and a Start Page also counts as one on paid plans. These are the prices as listed in October 2026; Buffer's own notes say pricing was last updated in November 2025.

| Buffer plan | Monthly billing | Yearly billing | Main limits | What it adds |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | $0 | Up to 3 channels, 10 scheduled posts per channel at any one time, 100 ideas, 1 user, 30 days of Insights history | AI Assistant, Start Page, community inbox with 5 AI reply suggestions per week, visual calendar, Canva, Zapier and Make integrations |
| Essentials | $6 per channel | $5 per channel per month ($60 per channel per year) | 1 user; unlimited scheduled posts per channel (fair use cap of 5,000) | Unlimited ideas and Insights history, reports, custom UTM parameters, hashtag manager, first-comment scheduling, unlimited AI comment replies |
| Team | $12 per channel | $10 per channel per month ($120 per channel per year) | Unlimited users; unlimited scheduled posts per channel (fair use cap of 5,000) | Everything in Essentials plus approval workflows, custom access levels and permissions, branded reports |
A few terms are worth reading closely:
- Volume rates. On monthly billing, rates fall above 10 channels: channels 11 to 25 are $4 on either plan, 26 to 50 are $3, and 51 and up are $1 on Essentials or $2 on Team. Very few solo coaches will reach these.
- Free channels convert. Free-plan channels become paid channels when you upgrade, so count everything connected before you switch, including a Start Page.
- The trial is low-risk. The 14-day trial of Essentials or Team drops to the Free plan automatically if you add no payment details, and channels beyond 3 are locked.
- The yearly discount is described two ways. The pricing cards say "save 2 months" and the FAQ says 20%. Two months is about 17%, which is also what $6 falling to $5 works out to, so plan on that figure.
- Payment methods. Subscriptions accept major cards, with no PayPal, checks or bank transfer. Nonprofits get 50% off paid plans.
What does Buffer actually cost a solo coach?
A solo coach on three networks pays between $15 and $24 a month for Essentials, depending on billing and whether they add a Start Page, which is a small bill. The more useful question is how much of the business that spend covers, so the last column matters as much as the price.
| Setup (example) | Cost | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| Coachful membership | Lite: $29/month for up to 5 clients | Social planner, booking, payments, contracts, programs, courses, community, website, funnels, email and AI assistant under one login |
| Buffer Free, 3 channels | $0 | Publishing only, with 10 queued posts per channel and 30 days of Insights |
| Buffer Essentials, 3 channels | $18/month, or $15/month billed yearly | Publishing, analytics and comments |
| Buffer Essentials, 3 channels plus Start Page | $24/month, or $20/month billed yearly | The same, plus a link-in-bio page |
| Buffer Team, 3 channels | $36/month, or $30/month billed yearly | The same as Essentials, plus an assistant with approvals |
| Buffer Essentials, 10 channels | $60/month, or $50/month billed yearly | Publishing, analytics and comments at a larger scale |
The Free plan is a real plan with a real limit. As an example, a coach posting three times a week on one channel would fill the 10-post queue in a little over three weeks, and slots refill as posts publish. That is enough for most people who plan a few weeks ahead, though not for anyone who batches a whole quarter of content in one sitting.
The catch is what the Buffer line leaves out. Booking, payments, contracts, email and program delivery still need a tool each, and the total is what you should compare. Add up what you pay for those today and set that figure beside your Buffer bill before you judge either one.
What do public reviewers say about Buffer?
The public signal is positive overall: Buffer held 4.2 on Trustpilot from 146 reviews when we looked on 28 October 2026. We could read that score and count, but we could not access the text of the individual reviews for this article, so we are not going to summarize praise or complaints we have not read.
What the numbers do support is a comparison with the same category on the same site. The other vendors' scores were all seen on 28 October 2026, and Coachful's is the current figure we hold:
| Tool | Trustpilot score | Number of reviews |
|---|---|---|
| Coachful | 4.5 | 21 |
| Buffer | 4.2 | 146 |
| Metricool | 4.1 | 690 |
| Planoly | 3.2 | 61 |
| Later | 1.4 | 352 |
| Hootsuite | 1.3 | 556 |
Two cautions apply. Coachful's 21 reviews and Buffer's 146 are both small samples, so the gap between them should not decide anything. And none of these scores measures whether a tool fits coaching. A scheduler can earn high marks from the people who only ever wanted a scheduler.
If you want to go deeper before paying, read the most recent reviews yourself and look for three things that affect coaches: failed or delayed posts on the networks you use, how upgrades and per-channel billing played out, and how quickly support replied. The 14-day trial also lets you check the first of those on your own accounts.
What are the pros and cons of Buffer?
Buffer's strengths are price, network coverage and a Free plan you can keep. Its limits come from its scope, with most of the coaching workflow outside it.
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Low entry cost: a Free plan, then $6 per channel on monthly billing | No booking, payments, contracts, programs or client records |
| Publishes to 12 networks, including TikTok, Pinterest, Google Business Profile and Bluesky | No direct messages in the inbox, and no DM or auto-reply automation listed |
| AI Assistant listed as unlimited on every plan | Instagram personal profiles and Facebook groups are reminder-only |
| Unlimited users and approvals on Team | Per-channel pricing means each new network, and a Start Page, adds to the bill |
| Trial falls back to the Free plan if you add no payment details | Free plan limits you to 10 queued posts per channel and 30 days of Insights |
| Insights exports on paid plans, and an API on all plans | Scheduled posts cannot be exported directly |
Who is Buffer best for?
Buffer is best for coaches whose client side already runs well and who want to post more consistently without much cost or setup. Three situations fit it well.
- The established coach with a working stack. You have a booking tool, a payment flow and a delivery method you like, and social publishing is the one loose end. Buffer fills that gap without asking you to move anything.
- The coach who needs a network others lack. Pinterest, TikTok, Google Business Profile, Bluesky, Mastodon or Substack may matter to your audience. Buffer's list here is wider than many alternatives.
- The coach with an assistant. Team's approval workflow lets someone draft and you sign off. At $12 per channel on monthly billing it costs more, though unlimited users are included.
It is a poorer fit for three other kinds of coach:
- The new coach starting from nothing. You need clients before you need a content calendar, and the steps that turn a follower into a client are the ones Buffer leaves out. Our guide for new coaches starts from those steps.
- The coach selling in DMs. Comment-to-DM flows and DM replies are not listed, so the conversations that lead to sales happen elsewhere.
- The coach running programs. A program lives or dies between sessions, with habits, check-ins and accountability. See our page on group coaching software for what that takes.
Where do coaches outgrow Buffer?
A coach outgrows Buffer once posting starts working, because attention needs somewhere to go. Each new lead then moves through tools that do not share a login or a record of that person.

Here is the path a follower takes, and which step Buffer handles:
- A post goes out. Buffer handles this.
- Someone comments. Buffer's inbox lets you reply to the comment.
- They message you about working together. This is outside Buffer.
- They book a call. A separate scheduling tool is needed.
- They sign and pay. A contract tool and a payment setup are needed.
- They start a program and need support between sessions. A delivery tool is needed.
None of this is a flaw in Buffer, which never claims to do those things. It is the reason the low price can mislead. A coach comparing tools by their monthly fee alone may miss that the cost and effort sit in the other five steps, along with the time spent keeping several tools in agreement about who is a client.
What are the best Buffer alternatives for coaches?
The best alternative depends on what is missing. We ranked these by one login for the whole client journey, between-session delivery, total stack cost and setup effort, and on those criteria Coachful comes first. For the longer list, see the best Buffer alternatives for coaches.

Coachful: the whole client journey under one login

Coachful is a coaching platform. One subscription covers booking, payments, contracts, program delivery with habits and check-ins, courses, a community, a website with funnels and email, and an AI assistant, with one login for you and one branded app for your clients. It is built for coaches who deliver programs as well as sessions, solo coaches growing into a small team, and coaches replacing four to six tools. All of this is included in your Coachful membership. Current plans: Lite: $29/month for up to 5 clients; Solo: $49/month for up to 20 clients; Pro: $99/month with unlimited clients; Studio: $199/month with unlimited clients.
Publishing. The social planner gives you AI help with post ideas and captions, then schedules and publishes to Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X, Threads and YouTube from one calendar. Each network publishes separately, with a per-network retry and a notification if one fails. Buffer reaches more networks, and Coachful does not publish to TikTok or Pinterest. It also has no social analytics dashboard or unified social inbox, so a coach who lives in those features should keep a dedicated tool.
DMs. This is the step Buffer leaves open. Coachful's Instagram automations can trigger on a DM, a comment on a post (optionally only with chosen keywords), a story reply, a mention, or a new follower where Meta supports it. They can then send a DM, reply publicly, send buttons or quick replies, or send an AI-written reply at 1 AI credit per reply. A typical setup is comment a keyword, get the booking link in a DM, and land in the same lead and client records you already use.

Booking and selling. Booking pages carry availability rules, buffers, minimum notice and time-zone detection, with two-way Google, Apple and Outlook calendar sync. Video runs on the built-in option or on auto-created Zoom, Meet or Teams links. Clients pay through your own Stripe Connect or Razorpay account, with one-time payments, subscriptions, payment plans and coupons. Coachful takes a 0% platform fee, so you only pay processing. Coaching agreements with e-signature go out before the first call and sit on the client record.

Delivery. Multi-week programs hold weekly goals, daily tasks, habits, morning and evening check-ins, goals with progress bars and streaks, and they arrive in your client's branded home and app. Cohort groups are created automatically when someone enrolls in a program. This is the walkthrough of how programs are built:

Knowing your clients. Each client record gathers goals, check-ins, habits, notes, intake answers, tags, payments and sessions, with a status of thriving, active, quiet or at risk. Michelle, the built-in AI assistant, works from that live practice data to draft emails and content, build programs, summarize recorded sessions and brief you before a session. Questions and planning are included in your membership, while confirmed builds and changes use AI credits.

Your own home online. A section-based website builder comes with a blog, custom domain, SEO settings and 30 designed homepage templates, along with funnels and a link-in-bio page that sells. Unlike a Start Page, that page can lead straight into a checkout on the same platform. See our page on the coach website builder for the detail.

Why Coachful stands out: a free white-glove service. From Create, you describe what you want built: a website, funnel, sales page, program, course outline, email sequence, link in bio and more. You can attach up to 8 reference links and up to 10 files, and the Coachful team builds it inside your own account, usually within about 24 hours. For example, a leadership coach with a Squarespace renewal days away got one clean homepage with a repeated "talk with me" button, and a business mentor for beauty professionals got a 12-week mentorship sales page, a start-up-guide funnel and rewritten follow-up emails. Nothing gets invented, so gaps in your credentials, testimonials or prices are left for you to fill. It does not include recording videos, logo design, ad management or ongoing marketing. Read more about the white-glove service.

What Coachful does not do. It is not HIPAA-certified and offers no BAA, so it does not suit clinical record-keeping or insurance billing. There is no PayPal and no permanent free plan. Your client app is your branding inside the Coachful app, and it is not your own App Store listing. There is no multi-stage sales deal board for large teams and no Salesforce or HubSpot integration.
How to start. Begin with a free trial, then ask for a white-glove build of whatever would take you longest. Clients, programs and content are imported for you during onboarding. Our overview of coaching software shows how the parts fit together, and our comparison pages put Coachful beside other tools.
Pick Buffer over Coachful if your booking and delivery already work and you only want a low-cost scheduler, or if you depend on TikTok, Pinterest, Google Business Profile, Bluesky, Mastodon or Substack, or if post analytics matter more to you than the steps after the post.
Metricool: the analytics-minded scheduler

Metricool is a planner and analytics tool that also connects a website or blog and Facebook, Google and TikTok ads accounts. As listed in October 2026, its Free plan covers 1 brand and 20 posts a month, with no LinkedIn or X, which rules it out for many business and executive coaches until they pay. Paid plans add Flows for Instagram comment-to-DM and keyword DM replies, and the Starter tier allows up to 5 brands, which beats per-channel pricing if you run several accounts. Trustpilot showed 4.1 from 690 reviews on 28 October 2026. See Metricool vs Buffer for the head-to-head. Pick it over Coachful if deep social and ads analytics are the main thing you want and you already have a coaching stack.
Later: the Instagram-first visual planner

Later offers a visual Instagram grid planner and a Link in Bio page on every plan that can collect email sign-ups to Mailchimp or CSV. As listed in October 2026, Starter allows 30 posts per profile per month and 5 AI credits, and Social Inbox for Instagram and Facebook DMs and comments starts on Growth, at $37.50 a month billed yearly. The 14-day trial requires a card and converts to a paid plan unless cancelled, and Later stopped supporting X in August 2025. Trustpilot showed 1.4 from 352 reviews on 28 October 2026, a score worth reading into before you enter card details. See Buffer vs Later. Pick it over Coachful if a visual Instagram grid is central to your brand and you do not need client delivery.
Planoly: a planner with a small storefront

Planoly is the alternative closest to selling. As listed in October 2026, every paid plan includes Creator Store, a link-in-bio storefront for digital downloads, e-courses, memberships, live events, merch and paid 1:1 consultations, with no Planoly cut of sales, though Stripe or PayPal processing fees still apply. Paid bookings support availability windows, buffers and Google Calendar sync. Trustpilot showed 3.2 from 61 reviews on 28 October 2026. See Buffer vs Planoly. Pick it over Coachful if you want a simple creator storefront, you need PayPal, and you do not run multi-week programs.
Hootsuite: built for larger teams

Hootsuite is an enterprise-oriented suite priced per user, not per channel. As listed in October 2026, Standard costs $149 a month per user, or $99 billed yearly, with up to 10 social accounts, and DM automations start on Professional at $199 per user per month billed yearly. Every plan includes a unified inbox for comments and DMs. There is no Free plan, and the 14-day trial needs no card. Trustpilot showed 1.3 from 556 reviews on 28 October 2026. For a solo coach this is many times Buffer's cost for capability they may never use, as Buffer vs Hootsuite sets out. Pick it over Coachful if a marketing team runs social across many accounts and needs a shared inbox and competitor benchmarking.
Can you use Buffer and Coachful together?
Yes, and for some coaches it is the sensible setup. Buffer can post to the networks Coachful does not publish to, such as TikTok and Pinterest, and send people to a Coachful booking page, funnel or checkout.
Custom UTM parameters on Buffer's paid plans can tag those links, and Coachful funnels support pixels and UTM tracking, so you can see which posts led to which sign-ups. Both tools also connect to Zapier. If your networks are covered by Coachful's planner, though, keeping both means paying for a second calendar, so check that the extra networks justify the extra line.
How should you decide whether to buy Buffer?
Decide by listing what your practice lacks today, then seeing how much of the list Buffer covers. If it covers everything, buy it. If it covers one item in five, the low price does not change the larger problem.
- Write down where a new client goes after seeing a post. Count the tools and logins they cross on the way to their first session.
- Total your monthly tools. Include the scheduler, booking, payments, contracts, email and delivery.
- Count your channels honestly. Multiply by Buffer's per-channel rate and add one if you want a Start Page.
- Check your networks. If you need TikTok, Pinterest, Bluesky or Substack, that points toward Buffer. If you rely on Facebook groups, note that they are reminder-only.
- Trial the real thing. Buffer's 14-day trial lets you test on your own accounts, and you can compare by moving one real offer into a Coachful free trial.
Our reviews hub has other tools if you want to widen the search.
What is our final verdict on Buffer?
Buffer is a good scheduler at a fair price, and we would not talk a coach out of it if publishing is the only gap in a practice that already runs well. Its pricing is clear, its Free plan is usable, its network list is wide, and its 4.2 Trustpilot score is respectable for the category.
It is the wrong centre for a coaching business, though. It has no way to take a booking, a payment or a signature, and nothing to help a client between sessions. If your real question is how to get clients from social media, the answer only starts at the post. For that question we recommend Coachful, because the same login takes a person from post to DM, booking, contract, payment and program, and the white-glove build removes most of the setup work.
Buffer review FAQ
Is Buffer good for coaches?
It is good at publishing, which is one part of a coach's work. It suits coaches who already have booking, payments and delivery in place. It does not help with any of those steps, so a coach starting from scratch will need other tools alongside it.
Is Buffer really free?
Yes. As listed in October 2026, the Free plan covers up to 3 channels, 10 scheduled posts per channel at any one time, 1 user and 30 days of Insights history. The AI Assistant and a Start Page are included, and Buffer describes the plan as free forever.
How much does Buffer cost for three social accounts?
On Essentials, 3 channels cost $18 a month on monthly billing or $15 a month billed yearly. On Team they cost $36 or $30. A Start Page counts as a channel on paid plans, so adding one takes Essentials to $24 or $20.
Does Buffer handle Instagram DMs?
No. Its community inbox is for comments, with AI reply suggestions, and direct messages are not part of it. No DM or auto-reply automation is listed as of October 2026.
Can Buffer take bookings or payments for my coaching?
No. Buffer does not process payments for your products or services, and it has no booking calendar. Its Start Page can only link out to whichever tools you use for those jobs.
Does Buffer have a free trial?
Yes, a 14-day trial of Essentials or Team. If you add no payment details, the account drops to the Free plan automatically and any channels beyond 3 are locked.
Can I export my data if I leave Buffer?
Partly. Paid plans export Insights as CSV, Markdown or PDF, and chart snapshots download as images on every plan. Scheduled posts cannot be exported directly, although an API is available on all plans.
Does Coachful replace Buffer?
For many coaches, yes. Its social planner publishes to Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X, Threads and YouTube, and it is included in your Coachful membership. It does not publish to TikTok or Pinterest and has no social analytics dashboard, so coaches who need those should keep a dedicated scheduler.
What is Coachful's white-glove service?
It is a free build service on every plan. You describe what you want, such as a website, funnel, program or email sequence, and attach your references. The team then builds it inside your account, usually within about 24 hours, leaving any gaps for you to fill and inventing nothing.
