Hootsuite vs Planoly for Coaches: Which to Pick in 2026

Hootsuite vs Planoly for Coaches: Which to Pick in 2026

Hootsuite vs Planoly comes down to scale and style. Hootsuite is a per-user social media suite built for teams that manage many accounts, a shared inbox and reporting, and it starts at $99 per user per month billed yearly. Planoly is a visual Instagram-first planner with a link-in-bio storefront that can sell paid 1:1 sessions, and it starts at $14 per month billed yearly, with a small free mobile plan. For most solo coaches, Planoly is the closer fit of the two; Hootsuite earns its price only when several people handle a lot of social conversations.

There is a third option worth weighing before you pay for either. We make Coachful, a coaching platform that includes a social planner and Instagram comment-to-DM automations alongside booking, payments, programs and client records. Below you get an honest head-to-head of Hootsuite and Planoly first, with prices as listed in October 2026, then a clear account of when Coachful beats both and when it does not.

What is the short answer for each kind of coach?

Pick by what you actually do on social media each week and what happens after someone shows interest. A scheduler only covers the first half of that journey.

  • Solo coach who posts on Instagram and wants posts to turn into booked calls: Coachful, because the post, the DM reply, the booking, the payment and the program live in one login. Planoly is the runner-up if you only want a pretty grid and a simple storefront.
  • Coach who thinks visually and plans an Instagram grid weeks ahead: Planoly. Its grid planner is the product's core, and Starter is cheap.
  • Coaching company with a social team, many accounts and a busy inbox across networks: Hootsuite. Approval workflows, message routing and multi-network reports are what you pay for.
  • Coach who needs TikTok or Pinterest publishing: Planoly or Hootsuite. Coachful's social planner does not publish to TikTok or Pinterest.
  • Coach who wants deep social analytics or one inbox for every network: Hootsuite. Coachful has no social analytics dashboard or unified social inbox.

If you are still choosing between schedulers in general, our guides to Hootsuite alternatives for coaches and Planoly alternatives for coaches cover the wider field.

How do Hootsuite, Planoly and Coachful compare side by side?

Ranked for coaches on four criteria: one login for the whole client journey, delivery between sessions, total stack cost, and setup effort (including Coachful's free white-glove build).

Two things stand out. Hootsuite and Planoly are both social tools first, but Planoly has grown sideways into selling, while Hootsuite has grown upward into enterprise listening and analytics. And neither one runs the coaching itself: once a client has paid, you still need somewhere to deliver the work.

How much do Hootsuite and Planoly cost?

Planoly costs $14 to $47 a month billed yearly for one account holder; Hootsuite costs $99 to $399 per user per month billed yearly. That gap is the single biggest difference between them, and it grows with every person you add.

Prices are as listed in October 2026. Hootsuite shows prices in the visitor's currency with the same numerals (for example €99 instead of $99 from an EU address) and excludes taxes. Planoly's yearly totals above are its per-month annual price multiplied by 12, since the page does not show a yearly total.

Planoly pricing page with Starter, Growth and Pro plans
Planoly's pricing page in October 2026.

A worked example: a coach plus a part-time assistant

Here is an illustrative case, not a quote. A coach and a virtual assistant both need to log in and schedule posts. On Planoly, Growth covers 2 users for $24 a month billed yearly, or $288 a year. On Hootsuite, Standard is priced per user, so two seats cost 2 × $99 = $198 a month billed yearly, or $2,376 a year. If that coach also wants Instagram DM automation, Hootsuite moves them to Professional at 2 × $199 = $398 a month, while Planoly includes auto-DMs on every paid plan.

Neither price includes a booking tool, payment checkout beyond Planoly's storefront, a program delivery space or a client app. Add those separately and the total stack cost rises again. That is why the third option matters, and we come back to it below.

Free plans and trials

Hootsuite has no free plan. Its 14-day trial needs no credit card, but trial accounts have daily posting limits of 10 to 20 posts per organization and no bulk scheduling. Planoly has a free plan on its mobile app with 10 uploads per month, and all paid plans include a 14-day free trial. Coachful has a free trial, and no permanent free plan.

How do Hootsuite and Planoly differ on publishing and planning?

Hootsuite supports more networks and bulk scheduling; Planoly gives you a visual grid that shows how your Instagram profile will look before you post. Which matters more depends on whether you post widely or post beautifully.

Hootsuite's publishing

Hootsuite connects Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn, Threads, TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest, Bluesky and Google Business Profile. Every plan includes a publishing calendar with bulk scheduling, best-time recommendations, unlimited scheduled posts and Canva or Adobe Express templates. Standard caps you at 10 social accounts; Professional and above remove the cap. For a solo coach with three or four profiles, 10 accounts is plenty, so the cap rarely bites.

Advanced adds post approval workflows, internal comments and the ability to suspend scheduled posts. Those features are for teams where a junior writes and a manager signs off. A one-person practice will not use them.

Planoly's publishing

Planoly auto-posts to Instagram, Facebook Pages, TikTok, LinkedIn, YouTube, Threads and Pinterest. X is reminder-only, meaning Planoly nudges you to post rather than posting for you, and Bluesky and Google Business Profile are not supported. Paid plans include unlimited uploads, a media library and the visual grid planner that made Planoly popular with Instagram-heavy creators.

Planoly organises accounts into Social Sets, one account per network. Starter gives you one Social Set and cannot buy more, so a coach who runs a personal brand and a separate business account on Instagram needs Growth.

Where Coachful sits on publishing

Coachful's social planner (under Sell, then How you reach them) helps with post ideas and captions, then schedules and publishes posts to Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X, Threads and YouTube from one calendar. Each network publishes separately, with a retry per network and a notification if one fails. It does not publish to TikTok or Pinterest, and it has no social analytics dashboard. If your growth comes from TikTok, keep a scheduler for that.

Which tool handles AI captions and content ideas better?

Both include AI help for writing posts, and the difference is mostly in limits rather than quality. Neither vendor publishes independent quality benchmarks, so treat AI as a drafting aid either way.

Hootsuite's Wisdom AI generates posts, captions, hashtags and images, with 100 AI credits per month on Standard, Professional and Advanced. Planoly includes an AI idea generator and caption writer on paid plans. Coachful's social planner offers AI help with post ideas and captions, and Michelle, Coachful's built-in AI assistant, drafts emails and content from your live practice data, such as the programs you run. Questions and planning with Michelle are included in your Coachful membership; confirmed builds and changes use AI credits.

For a coach, the useful test is whether the AI knows what you sell. A caption tool that can only see the post itself will write generic copy. One that can see your offers and programs has more to work with.

How do the inboxes and Instagram auto-DMs compare?

Hootsuite has the stronger inbox; Planoly has the cheaper auto-DMs. For coaches who sell through "comment a keyword and I'll DM you the link" posts, that difference decides a lot.

Hootsuite's inbox

Every Hootsuite plan includes an all-in-one inbox for public and private messages, with saved replies and contact notes, and Hootsuite lists WhatsApp messages among the conversations the inbox can hold. DM automations, automated message responses, AI smart replies and contact profiles start on Professional. Advanced adds message assignment, skill-based routing and team reporting on the inbox. This is the right shape for a company with several people answering social messages across many networks.

Planoly's auto-DMs

Planoly sends automatic Instagram responses triggered by keywords in comments, DMs or both, on every paid plan, including Starter. Planoly does not list a shared social inbox for other networks. For the common coaching tactic, a post that says "comment GUIDE for my free guide", Planoly covers it on its cheapest paid plan, where Hootsuite needs Professional.

Coachful's Instagram automations

Coachful's Instagram automations (under Manage, then Your client experience, then Automations, after you connect your Instagram professional account under Connections) trigger on a DM, a comment on a post (optionally only when it contains chosen keywords), a story reply, a mention, or a new follower where Meta supports it. Actions can send a DM, reply publicly to the comment, send a DM with buttons or quick replies, or send an AI-written reply (1 AI credit per reply).

The difference is where the person lands. In a typical setup, someone comments a keyword, receives your booking link, lead magnet or checkout in a DM, and then appears in the same Coachful lead and client records you use for coaching. With Planoly or Hootsuite, that DM points somewhere else, and the lead lives in a different tool from the one where you coach. Coachful's automations cover Instagram only; they do not cover WhatsApp, Messenger, TikTok or SMS DMs.

Can Hootsuite or Planoly sell your coaching?

Planoly can sell simple offers through Creator Store; Hootsuite cannot sell anything. This is where the two tools stop looking alike.

Planoly Creator Store

Every paid Planoly plan includes Creator Store, a link-in-bio storefront for digital downloads, e-courses, memberships, live events, merch and paid 1:1 consultations. Planoly takes no cut of sales. Checkout runs through your own Stripe or PayPal account, and their processing fees still apply. A CRM inside Creator Store stores customer contacts and sends automated email flows and broadcasts.

Paid 1:1 bookings support availability windows, buffers, Google Calendar sync, Zoom or Google Meet links and client self-rescheduling. Outlook sync is not mentioned in Planoly's help center. The Pro plan adds custom confirmation emails and a secondary calendar for conflict checks, per the help center. For a coach selling a single discovery call and a downloadable workbook, that is a workable setup.

Hootsuite's link in bio

Hootsuite includes Hootbio, a link-in-bio tool, on every plan. Hootsuite does not process payments for your products or services, and has no booking calendar, client records, payments, programs or courses. You would pair it with a separate booking and payment stack.

What Coachful does on the selling side

Coachful includes a link-in-bio page that sells, plus booking, application, lead-magnet and checkout funnels with pixels and UTM tracking. Payments go through your own Stripe Connect or Razorpay account with one-time payments, subscriptions, payment plans, order bumps, coupons, refunds, Apple Pay and Google Pay, and Stripe Tax. Coachful charges a 0% platform fee (since August 2026), so you pay only Stripe or Razorpay processing. Coachful does not support PayPal, which is a real point in Planoly's favour if your audience prefers it.

Coachful's booking pages include availability rules, buffers, minimum notice and time-zone detection, with two-way Google, Apple/iCloud and Outlook calendar sync, and built-in video or auto-created Zoom, Meet or Teams links. Email reminders are standard, with SMS (24 hours before) and WhatsApp (1 hour before) once messaging is enabled. You can add intake questions on booking, sell paid sessions or session credits, and send a coaching agreement for e-signature before the first call.

How do analytics and reporting compare?

Hootsuite is far ahead on analytics. If social reporting is part of your job, especially for a coaching company with a marketing team, that alone can justify its price.

Hootsuite Standard includes post performance and multi-network reports, social listening Quick Search covering 7 days, ads publishing and analytics, and competitive benchmarking against up to 5 competitors. Professional adds customizable reports, basic report exporting and scheduling, 30 days of Quick Search, trend forecasting and benchmarking up to 20 competitors. Advanced adds advanced report exporting and sharing. Enterprise adds Talkwalker listening and advanced alerts.

Planoly's paid plans include analytics with shareable reports. An older Planoly blog guide documents a CSV export of analytics data; a Creator Store customer export is not documented. Coachful has no social analytics dashboard. Its analytics cover the business side instead: revenue, client activity, community, funnels, products, retention and email.

Which one looks like you?

Coachful builds your coaching website from a few answers, in a design chosen for your niche, with programs, booking and payments ready behind it.

Build your platform

What does the client experience look like with each tool?

With Hootsuite, there is no client experience: clients never touch it. With Planoly, a client sees your storefront, a checkout and a booking page. With Coachful, the client gets your branded home and app, where the coaching actually happens.

This is the question most social tool comparisons skip. A coach's revenue does not come from followers; it comes from clients who stay, get results and renew. Planoly's CRM describes contacts and email flows, but structured coaching programs, session notes or a client portal are not described. After someone buys a Planoly consultation, the follow-up, the homework and the accountability happen somewhere else: email, a messaging app, a shared document.

In Coachful, clients follow multi-week programs with weekly goals, daily tasks, habits, morning and evening check-ins, goals with progress bars and streaks. They take courses, join a community feed and group chat, message you directly and attend video events. When a client enrolls in a program, a cohort group is created automatically. The client app ships under the Coachful listing with your branding, not under your own App Store account.

Here is a short walkthrough of how programs are built and delivered in Coachful:

What do public reviewers say about Hootsuite and Planoly?

On Trustpilot, as listed in October 2026, Hootsuite scored 1.3 from 556 reviews and Planoly scored 3.2 from 61 reviews. Coachful scored 4.5 from 21 reviews. Small review counts swing easily, so read the recent reviews yourself rather than relying on the score.

Trustpilot reviews of software skew towards billing and support complaints, because satisfied users rarely post. Hootsuite's large review count at a low score is still a signal worth checking against your own priorities, especially around renewals and cancellation. Planoly's middle score on a small sample says less. Neither score tells you whether the tool fits a coaching practice; the feature split above does that better.

Which should you pick, Hootsuite or Planoly?

Between the two, Planoly suits most coaches and Hootsuite suits coaching businesses with a social team. Here is the split by situation.

Pick Hootsuite if...

You run a coaching company with a marketing team, manage more than 10 social accounts, need approvals before posts go live, or must report social performance to someone. Budget for per-user pricing and check what your team needs on Professional before committing. For more Hootsuite match-ups, see Buffer vs Hootsuite, Metricool vs Hootsuite and Hootsuite vs Later.

What is the third option, and when does Coachful beat both?

Coachful's automations screen on a laptop next to its funnels list on a second screen
Coachful's Automations screen with Instagram automation choices on a laptop, beside the Funnels list.

Coachful beats both when your social media exists to fill a coaching practice, not to grow an audience for its own sake. It replaces the scheduler, the link-in-bio store and the tools that come after the sale with one subscription.

What Coachful is

Coachful is a coaching platform. One subscription covers booking, payments, contracts, program delivery with habits and check-ins, courses, a community, a website with funnels and email, and an AI assistant, with one login for the coach and one branded app for the client. It is built for coaches who deliver programs, not just sessions, for solo coaches growing into a small team, and for coaches replacing 4 to 6 tools. The company is based in Tallinn, Estonia. Current plans: Lite: $29/month for up to 5 clients; Solo: $49/month for up to 20 clients; Pro: $99/month with unlimited clients; Studio: $199/month with unlimited clients.

Where Coachful beats Hootsuite and Planoly

  • One path from post to client. A post goes out from the social planner, an Instagram comment triggers a DM with your booking link or checkout, and the person lands in the same lead and client records you coach from.
  • Delivery between sessions. Programs, habits, check-ins, courses and a community run inside your branded client home and app. Neither Hootsuite nor Planoly describes any of this.
  • Client records. Each client record holds goals, check-ins, habits, notes, intake answers, tags, payments, sessions and an AI briefing, with a status of thriving, active, quiet or at risk.
  • Website and email. A section-based website builder with blog, custom domain, SEO settings and 30 designed homepage templates, plus email lists, broadcasts and multi-step sequences with triggers, delays, branching and A/B splits.
  • Coach-specific extras. ICF credential tracking that counts hours and distinct clients against ACC, PCC and MCC thresholds, and an AI Coach that selected clients can chat with between sessions, configured by you.
  • Total stack cost. One flat monthly plan in place of a scheduler plus booking, payments, course and community tools, with a 0% platform fee on payments.

Where Hootsuite or Planoly beats Coachful

  • TikTok and Pinterest. Coachful does not publish to either. Both rivals do.
  • Social analytics. Coachful has no social analytics dashboard. Hootsuite's reporting and listening are far deeper, and Planoly offers shareable analytics reports.
  • A unified social inbox. Coachful has none. Hootsuite's inbox covers many networks plus WhatsApp messages.
  • Visual grid planning. Planoly's grid planner is its signature feature; Coachful plans posts in a calendar.
  • PayPal. Planoly's Creator Store supports PayPal; Coachful does not.
  • A permanent free tier. Planoly has a free mobile plan; Coachful has a free trial but no permanent free plan.
  • Enterprise needs. Hootsuite Enterprise offers SSO and a Salesforce integration; Coachful has no Salesforce or HubSpot integration and no multi-stage sales deal board for large teams.

What Coachful does not do

Coachful is not HIPAA-certified and does not sign a BAA, so it is not for clinical record-keeping or insurance billing. It has no Garmin, Fitbit, Whoop or Oura sync, and Apple Health sync is not available publicly. It is not a course marketplace, not a general website builder for non-coaching sites, and it has no third-party plugins. Its affiliate program tracks links, clicks, conversions and revenue, but payouts are recorded manually rather than sent by Coachful.

Why Coachful stands out: a free white-glove service. From Create, then "We'll build it for you · FREE", you describe what you want built, and the Coachful team builds it inside your own account, usually within about 24 hours. That can be a website, a funnel, an offer or sales page, a program, a course outline and written material, an email sequence, a link in bio, a lead quiz, an automation and more. You can attach up to 8 reference links and up to 10 files such as logos, photos, brand guides and copy. Nothing gets invented: no fake credentials, testimonials or prices, and gaps are left for you to fill. It does not include recording videos, logo design, ad management or ongoing marketing.

Recent anonymized builds show the range. A menopause and midlife health coach starting from nothing got a five-page site in sage and cream with every button leading to a free 20-minute consultation. A business mentor for beauty professionals got a 12-week mentorship sales page, a free start-up-guide funnel and rewritten follow-up emails. A leadership coach with a Squarespace renewal days away got one clean homepage with a repeated "talk with me" button. Read more about Coachful's free white-glove service.

How to start

Start a free trial, connect Stripe or Razorpay, and connect your Instagram professional account under Connections. Then request a white-glove build for your website or first funnel, and set up one Instagram automation that sends your booking link when someone comments a keyword. Clients, programs and content are imported for you during onboarding. If you are an Instagram-led coach, the pages for life coaches, business coaches and new coaches show how others set it up, and the coaching software overview covers the full feature set.

Can you use Coachful alongside Hootsuite or Planoly?

Yes, and for some coaches that is the right call. Keep the scheduler for what Coachful does not do, and let Coachful run everything after the first click.

A coach growing on TikTok might keep Planoly Starter for TikTok and Pinterest posts while running Instagram automations, booking, payments and programs in Coachful. A coaching company that reports social metrics to a board might keep Hootsuite for listening and analytics, and use Coachful for client delivery. In both cases, point every bio link and DM at Coachful so leads land in one record. The trade-off is paying for two tools, so check whether the scheduler's unique features are actually earning their cost each month.

How should you switch from Hootsuite or Planoly?

Switch in stages, starting with what earns money, so you never lose a booking or a lead during the move.

  1. Export what you have. Hootsuite offers a content calendar export on all plans and inbox data export from Professional. Planoly documents an analytics CSV export but not a Creator Store buyer export, so ask support or copy contacts before cancelling.
  2. Rebuild your offers and booking. Set up booking pages, checkout and agreements first. A white-glove build can recreate your link in bio and sales page.
  3. Move your bio link. Point your Instagram bio to Coachful's link-in-bio page, and switch keyword DMs to Coachful automations.
  4. Move posting last. Schedule a few weeks of posts in Coachful's social planner before your old plan renews.
  5. Cancel on time. Planoly's annual plans are billed upfront and Hootsuite bills per user, so note renewal dates.

Frequently asked questions

Is Hootsuite or Planoly better for a solo coach?

Planoly is usually better for a solo coach. It costs from $14 a month billed yearly against Hootsuite's $99 per user, and it includes Instagram auto-DMs and a storefront on every paid plan. Hootsuite's strengths, such as routing, approvals and listening, matter more to teams.

Does Planoly post to X automatically?

No. As listed in October 2026, X is reminder-only on Planoly, so it reminds you to post rather than posting for you. Hootsuite and Coachful both publish to X.

Which plan do I need for Instagram DM automation on Hootsuite?

DM automations and automated message responses start on Hootsuite Professional, at $199 per user per month billed yearly or $299 billed monthly. Standard includes the inbox and saved replies but not automations.

Can I take paid coaching bookings with Planoly?

Yes, through Creator Store's paid 1:1 consultations, with availability windows, buffers, Google Calendar sync and Zoom or Google Meet links. Planoly does not describe structured programs, session notes or a client portal, so delivery after the booking happens elsewhere.

Does Coachful replace Hootsuite or Planoly completely?

For many Instagram-led coaches it does, since it publishes to Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X, Threads and YouTube and automates Instagram DMs. It does not publish to TikTok or Pinterest, has no social analytics dashboard and no unified social inbox, so keep a scheduler if you rely on those.

What is Coachful's free white-glove service?

It is a build service included on every Coachful plan. You describe a website, funnel, program, email sequence or similar, attach references, and the Coachful team builds it in your account, usually within about 24 hours. It does not invent credentials, testimonials or prices, and it does not cover videos, logo design or ads.

Does Planoly take a cut of Creator Store sales?

No. Planoly says it takes no cut of Creator Store sales, though Stripe or PayPal processing fees still apply. Coachful also charges a 0% platform fee, with only Stripe or Razorpay processing.

Do Hootsuite and Planoly have free trials?

Both offer 14-day free trials. Hootsuite's needs no credit card but limits daily posting and turns off bulk scheduling during the trial. Planoly also has a free mobile plan with 10 uploads a month.

Is Coachful suitable for health or therapy practices?

Coachful is for coaching, not clinical care. It is not HIPAA-certified and does not sign a BAA, so clinical records and insurance billing belong in a clinical system. Health coaches can see how it fits on the health coach page.
