The 7 Best Patreon Alternatives, Compared

The 7 Best Patreon Alternatives, Compared

The best Patreon alternatives for coaches are the ones that answer a single question: do your paying members want to follow your work, or do they want you to coach them? Patreon handles the first job well. It has tiers, posts, video and live streams. It has no booking, no intake forms and no client notes, and new creators give up 10% of earnings plus processing, so the bill grows every time you sign someone new.

If you want clients to book, pay, sign and do the work between calls in one place, our pick is Coachful. We make Coachful, so weigh that accordingly: it ranks first on the criteria below because coaching is what it was built for, and we say where other tools beat it. One subscription covers booking, payments, agreements, program delivery, courses, a community, a website and email, with one login for you and one branded app for your clients.

The other six tools each fit a narrower job. Below you will find what each stage of a coaching relationship needs, a table of who covers which stage, a section on each tool, cost math at 5, 15 and 40 clients, and a plan for moving members without losing them. For a closer look at the platform you may be leaving, read our Patreon review and the Patreon pricing breakdown.

What does a coach's client journey need from a Patreon replacement?

It needs four stages to connect: attract, enroll, deliver and retain. Patreon is strongest at delivering content and thin at the other three once money is tied to a person's results rather than access to your posts. Judge any replacement stage by stage, because a gap at one stage usually becomes another subscription.

Attract: getting found by people who are not fans yet

Patreon gives you a hosted creator page, which works when an audience already knows you. A coach usually needs more: a website under their own domain, a lead magnet, an email sequence, and a way to turn an Instagram comment into a booked call. Ask whether a tool can send a stranger from a post to a page you control, and whether the lead lands in the same records your clients live in.

Enroll: from interested to signed and paid

Enrollment for coaching rarely looks like clicking a tier. There is usually a consultation, some intake questions, an agreement and a payment, sometimes in installments. Patreon has no scheduling, booking or intake forms, and the Relationship Manager member list is the only client record. A coach who stays on Patreon has to patch this stage with a scheduler and a separate e-signature tool. Our coaching contracts page covers what an agreement step should do.

Deliver: what happens between calls

Coaching results come from what the client does between sessions, so this stage needs more than a place to post. Look for weekly goals, daily tasks, habits and check-ins assigned to a specific person or cohort, plus live calls and a course library. Patreon's Live feature streams one-to-many to members, with chat and replays. That suits a group Q&A, but it is not a booked one-to-one call and it does not tell you who did the work.

The demo client hub: next session, tabs for programs, sessions, progress and documents, and work due before the call.

Retain: noticing who is drifting

A member who stops opening posts looks exactly like a happy one until the cancellation arrives. Retention depends on seeing activity per client, keeping a community alive and following up automatically. Tools built for memberships tend to show you community activity. Tools built for coaching show you that a named client has gone quiet.

One scope note if your coaching touches health, nutrition or mental wellbeing: coaching is not treatment. Refer anyone with symptoms, a diagnosis question or a crisis to a licensed professional, and keep clinical records in a clinical system. None of the tools in this article should be treated as a medical record, and Coachful is not HIPAA-certified.

Which Patreon alternatives cover which stage?

Only one tool in this list covers all four stages for coaching work without an add-on stack. Prices are as listed by vendors in October 2026; Patreon appears as the baseline.

How we ranked them: one login for the whole client journey, between-session delivery, total stack cost, and setup effort including Coachful's free white-glove build.

We picked for coaches who sell programs or memberships, so tools that only handle session admin are left out. If that is all you need, see our rankings of Paperbell alternatives and CoachAccountable alternatives. Everything below comes from vendor documentation and public listings. We did not run hands-on tests for this comparison.

1. Coachful: the whole client journey under one login

A laptop and tablet on an oak table showing a demo group program and a coaching session calendar.
Coachful's client Programs view and session calendar, both with demo data, on a laptop and a tablet.

Coachful is the best Patreon alternative for coaches whose members expect results and not only content. It is a coaching platform built for people who deliver programs and not just sessions, for solo coaches growing into a small team, and for anyone replacing 4 to 6 tools. Every feature below is included in your Coachful membership, a flat monthly plan (Lite: $29/month for up to 5 clients; Solo: $49/month for up to 20 clients; Pro: $99/month with unlimited clients; Studio: $199/month with unlimited clients), with lower plans capping the number of clients and Pro covering unlimited clients.

How a Patreon tier becomes a Coachful offer

Each tier maps to an offer. A monthly community tier becomes a subscription, a higher tier can become a program with group calls, and a one-off Collection becomes a course, a download or a bundle. Payments run through your own Stripe Connect or Razorpay account, with subscriptions, payment plans, order bumps, coupons, refunds, Apple Pay and Google Pay. Coachful has charged a 0% platform fee since August 2026, so you pay only the processor's fees, and your subscription does not rise with each sale the way a percentage does.

Coachful Offers page with live offer cards and cover photos.
The Offers page with demo data: three live offers, each with its own cover photo.

Enrollment then runs as a sequence Patreon cannot offer. A prospect finds your website or funnel, books through a page with your availability rules, buffers and time-zone detection, answers intake questions, and signs a coaching agreement before the first call. Those answers and the signed agreement stay on the client record. Two-way Google, Apple and Outlook calendar sync keeps your diary honest, and sessions get built-in video or auto-created Zoom, Meet or Teams links. See the scheduling page for the details.

What members do between sessions

Program delivery is where the gap with a membership platform is widest. You build multi-week programs with weekly goals, daily tasks, habits, morning and evening check-ins, goals with progress bars, and streaks. Clients see it all in their branded home and app, which ships inside the Coachful app with your branding. More than 40 ready-to-film program templates and 48 course templates with quizzes shorten the build.

The community side will feel familiar if you are coming from Patreon chats. There is a feed, group chat, direct messages and video events, and a cohort group is created automatically when someone enrolls in a program. Group calls and webinars live in the same place, as our group coaching page shows.

Seeing who needs you this week

Every client record holds goals, check-ins, habits, notes, intake answers, tags, payments and sessions, with a status of thriving, active, quiet or at risk. Michelle, the built-in AI assistant, works from that live data to brief you before sessions, summarize recorded calls, and draft emails or program content. Questions and planning are included in your Coachful membership; confirmed builds and changes use AI credits. You can also configure an AI Coach, an AI version of you that selected clients chat with between sessions. If you are working toward a credential, ICF tracking counts hours and distinct clients against ACC, PCC and MCC thresholds and exports a client coaching log (more on the ICF hour tracking page).

For the attract stage, you get a section-based website builder with a blog and custom domain, 30 designed homepage templates, about 25 funnel templates, email sequences with branching and A/B splits, a social planner for scheduling posts, and Instagram automations. A typical automation: someone comments a keyword on your post and gets your booking link or lead magnet in a DM, and they land in the same lead and client records.

Why Coachful stands out: a free white-glove service. On every plan, you can go to Create and choose We'll build it for you, describe what you want, and attach up to 8 reference links and up to 10 files. The Coachful team builds it inside your own account, usually within about 24 hours: a website, funnel, sales page, program, course outline, email sequence, form, link in bio and more. Nothing gets invented, so there are no fake credentials, testimonials or prices, and gaps are left for you to fill. One anonymized example: a business mentor for beauty professionals got a 12-week mentorship sales page, a start-up-guide funnel and rewritten follow-up emails. It does not include recording videos, logo design, ad management or ongoing marketing. Read more about the white-glove service.

What it does not do

Coachful has no PayPal or Venmo checkout, which matters if many of your Patreon members pay that way. There is no permanent free plan. It is not HIPAA-certified, offers no BAA, and is not for clinical records or insurance billing. Your client app ships under the Coachful listing with your branding, not under your own App Store account. It is not a course marketplace, and the affiliate program records payouts manually. Trustpilot shows 4.5 from 21 reviews, which is a small sample.

To start, take a free trial and request a white-glove build of your first offer. Clients, programs and content are imported for you during onboarding. There are separate overviews for new coaches and established practices.

2. Podia: a creator storefront with coaching on the shelf

Podia comes closest to a like-for-like upgrade from Patreon for someone who sells a mix of digital products and also takes coaching clients. All plans list online courses, digital downloads, coaching, community, events, a website with blog and custom domain, landing pages, sales tax handling, 20+ currencies and migration help. Its site describes coaching as clients booking and paying without back-and-forth, and community as topic-based spaces, group chats and DMs with free or paid tiers. Email marketing covers newsletters, welcome sequences and automations.

Why a creator leaving Patreon feels at home

You keep the idea of paid tiers in a community, add a real website, and get to stop sharing 10% of revenue once you are past the entry plan. The company also offers to move course content, downloads, customer emails and community subscribers: up to 50 products on Mover, up to 150 on the higher plans. And PayPal is available from Shaker upward.

Prices on Podia's pricing page in October 2026, billed annually:

  • Mover: $42/month with a 5% transaction fee, 100 email subscribers, 50 products, 25 spaces.
  • Shaker: $84/month, no Podia fee, 500 subscribers, 150 products, 100 spaces, PayPal, Zapier, affiliates.
  • Earthquaker: $150/month, no Podia fee, 1,000 subscribers, unlimited products and spaces.

Stripe or PayPal charges processing on top, listed at 2.9% + 30¢. There is a 14-day trial with no card needed.

Two catches for a coach

First, email subscribers are capped low on every plan, so a coach who built a real list pays extra for more. Second, the pricing page lists nothing about habits, daily check-ins or e-signed agreements, so plan on separate tools if your program depends on them. That is the reason it trails our first pick: Podia sells access well, but a coach needs to see whether each client did the work.

Pick it over Coachful if you mostly sell courses and downloads with occasional coaching, or your buyers need to pay by PayPal.

3. Circle: a dedicated home for a paid community

Circle's public homepage.
Circle's homepage in October 2026.

Circle makes sense when the community itself is the product and you want more structure than Patreon chats allow. It combines community spaces, courses, events, live streams and paid memberships, with admin and moderator seats that suit a coach running a large group with helpers.

As listed in October 2026 (annual billing, per month):

  • Professional, $89: 3 admins, 10 moderators, 2,500 AI credits, 2% fee on payments.
  • Business, $199: 5 admins, 15 moderators, 2,500 AI credits, 1% fee.
  • Scale, $419: 10 admins, 100 moderators, 5,000 AI credits, 1% fee.
  • Circle Plus, custom: unlimited admins, moderators and spaces, plus branded mobile apps, 0.5% fee.

Stripe processing is charged on top of the platform fee. A 14-day trial needs no credit card. Trustpilot shows 4.1 from 129 reviews, the highest score among the community tools here (seen in October 2026).

The limits show up as soon as you coach individuals. Circle has no 1:1 scheduling and no client management back office, and there are no per-client habits, check-ins or coaching plans. Your own branded app sits on the custom-priced tier. So a coach running a cohort on Circle usually adds a scheduler, an agreement tool and something to track progress, and then pays Circle's percentage on top of those subscriptions.

The fee is a much smaller bite than Patreon's. On the $89 plan at an example $4,000 a month in revenue, Circle would take $80 in fees plus the subscription, against $400 in platform fees on Patreon.

Pick it over Coachful if your business is a large, moderated community with several admins, and one-to-one coaching is a small part of it or handled elsewhere.

4. Mighty Networks: community plus courses, with stated live capacity

Mighty Networks' public homepage.
Mighty Networks' homepage in October 2026.

Think of Mighty Networks as the option for a coach whose group sessions draw a crowd. It combines a community, courses and events, and each plan spells out hosts, storage and livestream allowance, which makes capacity easy to plan around. Members use Mighty-branded apps.

Plan (October 2026)Monthly / annual billingLivestream allowancePlatform fee
Launch$95 / $7920 hours, 100 attendees2%
Scale$215 / $17930 hours, 200 attendees1%
GrowthAnnual only listed, $35440 hours, 1,000 attendees0.5%
Mighty ProCustomNot listed; unlimited hosts and moderators0.5%

Stripe processing is added to each fee. The 14-day trial requires no card and includes Growth plan features, so check what you would lose when you drop to Launch.

Who gets the most from it

A wellness or mindset coach running a large group with regular live sessions will find a lot to like, and our list of Mighty Networks alternatives for wellness coaches looks at that case in more depth. A coach with individual clients will find the same holes as with Circle: no 1:1 scheduling, invoicing or contracts, and no per-client habits, check-ins or private coaching plans. Branded apps belong to the custom Mighty Pro tier. Trustpilot shows 3.3 from 219 reviews.

Pick it over Coachful if your program is mainly large live group events and courses, and you rarely need individual client records.

Coachful builds your coaching website from a few answers, in a design chosen for your niche, with programs, booking and payments ready behind it.

5. Skool: the simple group, with a fee choice to make

Skool's public homepage, which introduces its community platform for groups.
Skool's homepage in October 2026.

Skool suits a coach who wants a community, a classroom and a calendar together in one group. Every plan includes unlimited members, courses, videos and live calls, and gamified leaderboards are the signature feature. We compare the two platforms directly in Skool vs Patreon.

The fee split that decides Hobby or Pro

Pricing is simple as listed in October 2026, and the choice between the two plans is really a question of volume:

  • Hobby: $9/month ($7.50 on annual billing), with 10% + 30¢ on every transaction.
  • Pro: $99/month ($82.50 on annual billing), with 2.9% + 30¢ up to $899 and 3.9% + 30¢ above $900.

At an example $100 per member per month, Pro becomes the cheaper plan at about 11 paying members on annual billing, or 13 on monthly. Hobby's 10% has processing included, so it takes $10.30 of that payment where Patreon takes $13.20.

The constraints are firm. There is no custom domain website, no funnels, no email automation and no public API. Payments run only through Skool Payments, fees are non-refundable, and payouts go weekly. No 1:1 client records, intake forms, habits or check-ins exist. Trustpilot lists 1.6 from 54 reviews, a small sample worth reading before you commit. If a phone app matters to you, see our roundup of Skool alternatives with a mobile app.

Pick it over Coachful if you run one group program where the community does most of the work, and you are happy to run your website, email and client records elsewhere or not at all.

6. Whop: lowest per-sale cost, assembled from apps

Whop's public homepage, which introduces its storefront and payments platform.
Whop's homepage in October 2026.

Whop is a payments-first storefront, and it is the cheapest tool in this list on fees alone. There is no subscription or listing fee. You pay 2.7% + $0.30 per successful domestic card transaction, plus 1.5% for international cards and 1% when currency conversion is required. Payout fees start at $2.50 for next-day ACH, and there are smaller items such as $15 per dispute. Enterprise pricing is available through a sales call.

Building a coaching product from apps

Each product you sell unlocks whichever apps you choose. For a coach, the useful set is Courses (videos, quizzes, progress tracking), Chat, Forums, Files and Events, plus Video Calls for live sessions and Calendar Bookings so members can book one-to-one time, paid or free. Recurring checkout links can include free trials of, for example, 1, 7 or 30 days. It is the only tool in the lower half of this list with a documented answer for one-to-one booking.

Cost is the attraction, and also the trap. Fees scale with revenue, and optional billing, tax and orchestration tools add further percentage fees. Financing options run at 15% or more per transaction, so read the fine print before you switch on buy-now-pay-later for a high-ticket program. Trustpilot shows 3.3 from 3,059 reviews.

The gaps for a coach are in the record-keeping and the between-session work. The apps Whop highlights do not include habits, daily check-ins or e-signed agreements, so confirm those in its app list if your program depends on them.

Pick it over Coachful if keeping per-sale fees low matters more than anything else, and you are comfortable assembling your product from apps and handling agreements and client tracking elsewhere.

7. Discord: a place to talk, not a business

Discord's public homepage.
Discord's homepage in October 2026.

Discord ranks last because it is a chat platform and not a coaching tool, though it is excellent at chat. Some coaches already use it next to Patreon, which can grant Discord roles by tier. A free server allows up to 25 million members, 500 channels and 250 roles, with text, voice, video, forum and stage channels.

Where the free server stops

Group video in a voice channel shows up to 25 cameras, with up to 50 for Go Live and screen share. Larger sessions move to stage channels with up to 10,000 listeners. Scheduled events in a voice channel cap at 99 participants. Every member needs a Discord account, which some coaching clients will not have and may not want.

Charging for access is where it narrows sharply. Server Subscriptions are available only to US-based owners, 18 or older, with a US bank account and a Community server, and they allow up to 3 monthly tiers. Desktop and browser purchases carry a 6% processing fee plus transaction fees, then a 10% platform fee on the remainder. On a $100 payment that comes to about $15.40, more than Patreon's $13.20. Tiers can offer a 1-day or 1-week trial, and Server Products are still in a limited beta.

Nothing else in the coaching workflow exists here: no course builder, client records, intake forms, booking, email or sales pages. Trustpilot lists 1.4 from 456 reviews, which may reflect general users as much as paying creators.

Pick it over Coachful if you only need a lively group chat, your members are already on Discord, and billing, booking and delivery are handled somewhere else.

What does each stack really cost, all-in or assembled?

Fees decide the math at low client counts, and subscriptions take over as you grow. The table uses a simple example: every client pays $100 a month on a domestic card. That figure is for arithmetic only and is not a recommended coaching rate.

Each cell shows the cheapest listed plan at that volume, using annual billing where the vendor lists it and assuming 2.9% + 30¢ card processing wherever the vendor does not bundle its own rate.

The first row is a flat subscription; add processing to it the same way as the others. Under the assumed card rate, that processing comes to about $16, $48 and $128 a month at these three client counts, and the same amount is already inside the Podia, Circle and Mighty Networks figures above.

Recipe A: the all-in-one

Move everything to Coachful: site, booking, agreements, program delivery, community and email under one login, with the white-glove team building the first version for you. For 15 clients, the total is Solo: $49/month for up to 20 clients, plus card processing. You lose PayPal and Venmo checkout and iOS in-app purchase. Subscriptions, group calls, feed posts and direct messages have direct equivalents; check any other Patreon feature you rely on, such as polls, before you commit.

Recipe B: the assembled stack

Assembled stacks work, but each extra login is something your client has to learn and something you have to keep in sync. We only quote prices we verified, so add-on tools are shown as a count rather than a figure. How do you move off Patreon without losing members?

Move in stages, keep Patreon running during the overlap, and ask members to opt in to the new billing. Payment details do not come with the export, so every member has to take an action, and how you handle that request decides how many stay.

  1. Check your plan before touching anything. A legacy page that is unpublished and republished moves to the standard 10% plan, so never unpublish a Founders or Pro page as a test. Patreon also says creators on legacy billing must move to subscription billing by November 1, 2026.
  2. Export your list. The Relationship Manager exports filtered members as CSV with name, email, tier, status and the columns you choose. Patreon says its MailChimp integration is no longer supported, so this export or Zapier is the route out.
  3. Map tiers to offers on paper. Write down every tier, its price and its promises. Decide which become subscriptions, which become programs, and where your free members belong. An email list is usually the right home for those.
  4. Save your own originals. Collect source files for videos and downloads now. Rebuild your best Collections as a course or library at the new home instead of moving everything; older posts rarely need the trip.
  5. Build first, announce second. On Coachful, clients, programs and content are imported for you during onboarding, and the white-glove team can build the site and sales page.
  6. Tell members why, and honor prepaid time. Annual members paid for a period, so let them run it out or credit them. Members who subscribed through Apple's in-app purchase or who pay with PayPal or Venmo need a specific note about what changes for them.
  7. Get fresh consent for the new charge. In the US, the Restore Online Shoppers' Confidence Act requires clear terms, express informed consent and a simple way to stop recurring charges on negative-option offers online. Commercial emails also fall under the CAN-SPAM Act. Rules differ by country, so check with an attorney if your list is international.
  8. Run both for one billing cycle. Point new sign-ups to the new home, keep posting in both places, then close tiers only after the bulk of members have moved. Keep your Patreon page live until the last prepaid member has finished.

Avoid three mistakes in this kind of move. Moving every old post delays launch for little benefit. Raising prices in the same announcement means members hear only the price. And treating the move as an admin task wastes the chance to give members something better, such as a check-in routine or a live call.

Which Patreon alternative should you choose?

Choose Coachful if you coach people toward an outcome and want the whole journey in one login, from first click to renewal. Its flat price does not climb with each sale the way Patreon's percentage does, and the white-glove build takes on much of the setup work. Our Coachful alternatives page shows where else to look if it is not the right fit.

For a narrower need, the choice is straightforward. Podia is for a mixed catalog of courses and downloads, particularly when buyers want PayPal. Circle and Mighty Networks suit large communities, and Skool suits a single simple group. Whop has the lowest per-sale cost if you can assemble the rest yourself, and Discord is worth adding only as a chat room. Stay on Patreon if you publish to fans, nobody books a call with you, and you hold a low legacy rate worth keeping.

Frequently asked questions about Patreon alternatives

What is the best Patreon alternative for coaches?

Coachful, on our criteria, because it covers attracting, enrolling, delivering and retaining clients under one login. We make it, so check the stage table above against your own needs. If you mostly sell digital products, Podia is a sensible second look.

How much does Patreon take from a coach?

New creators pay a 10% platform fee plus processing. On a $20 US card payment that is $2.00 plus $0.88, or about 14.4%, before any payout fee. Conversion adds 2.5% when member and payout currencies differ.

Can I run one-to-one coaching on Patreon?

Not in any structured way. Patreon has direct messages and one-to-many live streams, but no scheduling, booking, intake forms or client notes. You would need a separate scheduler and somewhere else to keep notes.

Which alternative has no platform fee?

Three here avoid a percentage platform fee at some level. Coachful has a 0% platform fee, Podia's Shaker and Earthquaker plans carry no Podia fee, and Whop charges a processing-style rate with no subscription. Card processing still applies in every case.

Will my members move automatically if I leave Patreon?

No. You can export names, emails, tiers and status as a CSV, but payment details do not come across in that export. Each member has to sign up to the new billing, so plan for an overlap period and a clear announcement.

Does Coachful accept PayPal or Venmo?

No. Payments run through your own Stripe Connect or Razorpay account, with Apple Pay and Google Pay available. If most of your members pay with PayPal or Venmo, warn them early, or consider Podia's Shaker plan.

Is Coachful's white-glove build really free?

Yes, on every plan. You describe what you want from Create, attach up to 8 links and 10 files, and the team builds it in your account, usually within about 24 hours. It does not cover recording videos, logo design, ad management or ongoing marketing.

Is Discord enough for group coaching?

For the conversation, often yes, with up to 25 cameras in a voice channel. For the business, no: it has no course builder, client records, intake forms, booking, email or sales pages. Paid access through Server Subscriptions is also limited to US-based owners.

Should I stay on Patreon?

Stay if you publish content to fans and do not coach individuals, especially if you hold a legacy rate below 10%. Patreon's Trustpilot score is 1.2 from 958 reviews as of October 2026, though that may reflect fans as well as creators. Leave when members start paying for your attention and results.

Can health coaches use these tools for client records?

Not for clinical records. Coachful is not HIPAA-certified and offers no BAA, so anything clinical belongs in a clinical system. Coaching is not treatment, so refer anyone who needs medical or mental health care to a licensed professional.
