Merkora vs Paperbell (2026): Prices, Features, Best Fit

In the Merkora vs Paperbell decision, the short answer is this: Paperbell is the safer choice for a solo coach who wants one proven, flat-priced tool for booking, packages, contracts and a simple website, while Merkora is the cheaper and newer choice for a coach who mainly sells sessions, courses and live events from one public page. Paperbell costs $97 a month (or $970 a year), as listed in October 2026. Merkora's Professional plan lists at $79 a month, with a limited founding-member rate of $29 a month for the first year.
Neither tool covers what happens between sessions: habits, check-ins, goals, a community, or email marketing. If that part of your coaching matters, there is a third option worth reading about at the end. We make Coachful, so we will say plainly where it wins and where Merkora or Paperbell is the better pick.

What is the short answer, by use case?
Pick by what you sell and how much risk you will accept on a young product. The table below and the sections after it fill in the detail.
- You run 1:1 packages and want contracts, forms and a website in one place: Paperbell. It lists contracts, forms, email workflows, a coaching website and a client portal on its single plan.
- You are just starting and have not made a sale yet: Merkora's Free plan lets you build your page and list services at no cost, until your first paid sale. After that you have 14 days to upgrade.
- You sell recorded courses and live events alongside sessions: Merkora documents hosted video courses and built-in live streaming for events up to 200 participants on Professional.
- You want the lowest monthly bill for a paid practice: Merkora, if you get one of the 50 founding-member spots. At the standard $79 a month, the gap to Paperbell's annual price is small.
- You care about public reviews and track record: Paperbell. It has a Trustpilot page (3.5 from 14 reviews, seen October 25, 2026). We found no public reviews of Merkora.
- You deliver programs where clients do work between calls: neither fits well. That is the gap Coachful is built for.
How do Merkora and Paperbell compare side by side?
Paperbell is the broader admin tool; Merkora is the leaner selling tool with stronger video features. Both take payments through Stripe with no platform fee on top, as listed in October 2026.
We ranked on four things: one login for the whole client journey, delivery between sessions, total stack cost, and setup effort (including a free white-glove build). On those criteria Coachful leads, and we show it first in every table.
| Tool | Best for | Booking and packages | Contracts | Courses and video | Between-session tools | Website |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Coachful | Coaches who deliver programs, not just sessions | Booking pages, two-way calendar sync, paid sessions, session credits | E-signature before the first call | Courses with drip, built-in video, webinars | Habits, check-ins, goals, streaks, community, AI Coach | Section-based builder, blog, funnels, email |
| Paperbell | Solo coaches who want simple, all-in-one admin | Scheduling and packages included | Included | Online classes and digital downloads listed | Not documented (no goal or habit tracking per older profile) | Simple coaching website |
| Merkora | Independent experts selling sessions, courses and live events | Booking, waitlist, intake forms; packages on Professional | Not mentioned on features page | Hosted video courses, live streaming, downloads | Not mentioned | One branded page at yourname.merkora.app |
For a broader field than these two, our ranked list of Paperbell alternatives covers more tools.
What does each tool cost in October 2026?
Paperbell has one plan at $97 a month or $970 a year. Merkora has a Free plan that ends at your first paid sale and a Professional plan at $79 a month, with a $29 founding-member rate for a limited number of coaches. All figures below are as listed in October 2026.
| Tool | Cheapest way in | Main paid plan | Annual billing | Platform fee on client payments | Trial or guarantee |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Coachful | Lite: $29/month for up to 5 clients | Pro: $99/month with unlimited clients | Flat monthly plans that cancel in one click | 0%; only Stripe or Razorpay processing | A free trial |
| Paperbell | $97/month | Same single plan, unlimited clients | $970/year (about $80.83/month), shown against $1,164 | None; Stripe or PayPal processing fees apply | "Try For Free" button; 30-day money-back guarantee |
| Merkora | $0 until your first paid sale | Professional $79/month ($29/month founding rate, 50 spots) | No annual pricing shown | 0%; Stripe processing fees apply | No time-limited trial; 30-day money-back guarantee on Professional |

How Merkora's pricing works
Merkora's Free plan is not a permanent free tier for a working practice. The pricing page says it is free "until your first paid sale"; after that you get 14 days to move to Professional, or new bookings and sales pause. The Free plan also caps live events at 10 participants and 25 participant hours a month, gives 10 GB of storage, has no recordings, and shows Merkora branding.
Professional, at $79 a month, raises live events to 200 participants, 500 participant hours a month and 10 hours of recordings a month, with 200 GB of storage. It adds session packages and bundles, advanced analytics with a revenue breakdown, and removes Merkora branding. The founding-member offer is $29 a month locked for 12 months, then $39 a month for life, limited to 50 spots. The page does not show how many spots remain.
One detail to read twice: the page says "Everything unlimited, no per-feature caps" while also listing the usage limits above. The limits are the ones to plan around. Merkora takes no cut of your sales ("Merkora earns $0 from your sales"), and payments go to your own connected Stripe account. Prices are shown with a "$" and no currency code; the company is listed as Merkora LLC in Wyoming, USA.

How Paperbell's pricing works
Paperbell has a single plan with every feature included: unlimited clients, sessions, files, packages and traffic, for $97 a month or $970 a year. The annual price is shown against $1,164 with a "2 Mo Free!" label. Paperbell states "no upsells or hidden add-ons" and "no additional transaction fees"; your payment processor's fees still apply. Our full Paperbell pricing breakdown covers the trial and refund details.
The pricing page has a "Try For Free" button but does not state the trial length. Paperbell's help center, as of July 2026, described a 7-day trial during which the public site stays offline and client messages and SMS are off. There is a 30-day money-back guarantee.
What would a year cost for a typical practice?
For a coach already taking payments, Merkora costs between $348 and $948 in the first year depending on whether you get a founding spot, and Paperbell costs $970 to $1,164. The figures below are an illustrative example for one solo coach with 15 active clients, using list prices as of October 2026.
| Tool and plan | First 12 months (example) | What you would still add |
|---|---|---|
| Coachful (plan covering 15 clients) | Solo: $49/month for up to 20 clients | Nothing for contracts, email, courses, community or website |
| Merkora Professional, founding rate | $348 ($29 x 12), then $39/month from year two | E-signature tool, email marketing tool, community space |
| Merkora Professional, standard | $948 ($79 x 12) | E-signature tool, email marketing tool, community space |
| Paperbell, annual | $970 | Community space, habit or check-in tool, full course platform if needed |
| Paperbell, monthly | $1,164 ($97 x 12) | Same as above |
The "what you would still add" column is where the real difference sits. We have not priced those extra tools because they vary widely; list the ones you actually use and add their annual cost before you compare. Stripe's processing fees apply to all three and are the same whichever tool sits in front of them.
How do booking and scheduling compare?
Both tools handle the core booking job; Merkora adds stronger cancellation rules, and Paperbell documents video call integration. Calendar sync is where you should check before buying.
Merkora documents booking with automatic confirmations and reminders, intake forms, a waitlist, and session packages where clients see their remaining balance. Its most distinctive feature is cancellation and no-show policy enforcement: instead of cash refunds, Merkora issues wallet credits that the client can use on a later booking. For coaches who lose income to late cancellations, that is a real reason to look at it. Its features page does not mention Google or Outlook calendar sync, so ask Merkora directly before relying on it with a busy personal calendar.
Paperbell includes scheduling and packages on its single plan, with video call integration listed among its features.
If you want to go further, Coachful's booking pages add availability rules, buffers, minimum notice, time-zone detection, two-way Google, Apple/iCloud and Outlook sync, and either built-in video or auto-created Zoom, Meet or Teams links. More on that on our coaching scheduling software page.

How do payments and packages compare?
Both run on Stripe with no platform fee, as listed in October 2026. Paperbell also supports PayPal according to our older profile of it; Merkora lists Stripe only.
Merkora connects to your own Stripe account, so payments go straight to you. Paid bookable services, courses and digital products are unlimited even on Free; session packages and bundles need Professional. Client history (bookings, purchases and wallet balance) can be exported to CSV, according to its features page.
Paperbell lists payments and packages among the features on its single plan, with unlimited packages. If you rely on coupons, order bumps or payment plans, confirm how Paperbell handles them before you move.
Coachful payments run through your own Stripe Connect or Razorpay account and cover one-time payments, subscriptions, payment plans, order bumps, coupons, refunds, Apple Pay, Google Pay and Stripe Tax, with an invoice for every transaction plus manual invoices. Coachful has had a 0% platform fee since August 2026. It does not support PayPal, which matters if many of your clients pay that way.

Which one handles contracts and intake better?
Paperbell, clearly. It lists contracts and forms on its single plan, so a client can sign your agreement and fill in intake questions as part of buying a package.
Merkora documents intake forms on booking, but its features page does not mention contracts or e-signatures. If you need a signed coaching agreement before the first call, you would add a separate e-signature tool and send it yourself. For a coach with only a few new clients a month, that is manageable; for a busier practice it becomes a step that gets skipped.
In Coachful, coaching agreements with e-signature go out before the first call and are stored on the client record, and intake questions can be attached to booking. See coaching contracts in Coachful for how that flow works.

Which is better for courses, live events and group work?
Merkora is stronger on video: hosted courses, built-in live streaming for events and group programs, and recordings on Professional. Paperbell lists online classes, digital downloads and group coaching, but our earlier profile found no full course or learning-management system.
Merkora hosts your video courses itself, so you do not need YouTube or another video host. It also supports digital downloads and free lead magnets with email capture, which helps a coach build a list. Live events run inside Merkora, up to 10 participants on Free and up to 200 on Professional, with 10 hours of recordings a month on Professional. For 1:1 calls, Merkora says you use a video integration or your existing setup.
Paperbell includes group coaching on its single plan, and its newer listing of online classes and digital downloads covers simple content delivery. Our article on group coaching on Paperbell walks through where it stops.
Neither tool documents a community feed, group chat or cohort spaces. Coachful's courses have modules, lessons, drip and completion tracking; cohort groups are created automatically when clients enroll in a program; and the community feed, group chat, direct messages and video events sit in the same app. See Coachful's course platform for coaches and group coaching software.

What about websites, marketing and email?
Paperbell gives you a simple coaching website and email workflows; Merkora gives you one branded page at yourname.merkora.app plus lead magnets with email capture. Neither is a full marketing system.
Paperbell's coaching website and email workflows are included on its single plan; our Paperbell website guide shows what you can and cannot customize.
Merkora's public page lists your services, courses and events in one place, with Merkora branding removed on Professional. Its features page does not mention email marketing, so lead magnets capture addresses, but broadcasts and sequences would need another tool.
Coachful includes a section-based website builder with a blog, custom domain, SEO settings and 30 designed homepage templates, plus booking, application, lead-magnet and checkout funnels with pixel and UTM tracking, and email lists, broadcasts and multi-step sequences with triggers, delays, branching and A/B splits.

What is the client experience like on each?
On both tools, the client experience is mostly about buying and booking. Neither documents a native mobile app; clients use a browser.
A Paperbell client buys a package, signs any contract you attach, books sessions and then uses the client portal. Our older profile notes no native mobile app; the portal works in a mobile browser. Our Paperbell client portal walkthrough shows each screen.
A Merkora client lands on your page at yourname.merkora.app, books or buys, and then uses a client dashboard to see bookings, purchased courses and the remaining balance on packages and wallet credits. The features page does not mention a mobile app.
What neither offers is a place for clients to do the work between calls: logging habits, answering a weekly check-in, tracking progress toward a goal, or talking with others in their cohort. If your results depend on that work, the client experience is where a different kind of tool earns its place.
| Tool | Where the client logs in | What they see | Mobile |
|---|---|---|---|
| Coachful | Your branded home and app | Next session, programs, habits, check-ins, goals, courses, community | App under the Coachful listing with your branding |
| Paperbell | Client portal | Packages, sessions and shared files (see our walkthrough) | Mobile browser (older profile) |
| Merkora | Client dashboard | Bookings, purchases, package balance, wallet credits | Not mentioned on features page |
What do reviewers say about Merkora and Paperbell?
Paperbell has a small public review base; Merkora has none we could find. We have not used either tool hands-on for this article, so this section reports only what vendors document and what public reviewers have posted.
Paperbell's Trustpilot page showed 3.5 from 14 reviews when we checked on October 25, 2026, down from 3.9 from 13 reviews when we checked previously. That is too few reviews to draw strong conclusions, but it shows real coaches using the product over time. Our Paperbell review summarizes what those reviews praise and where they complain.
We found no public reviews of Merkora on Trustpilot. The product site is merkora.app (merkora.com is a parked domain), and the founding-member offer suggests the product is new. That is not a mark against its features, but it means you are relying on the vendor's own description. The 30-day money-back guarantee on Professional and the Free plan with no credit card lower the risk of trying it.

Which should you pick, Merkora or Paperbell?
Pick Paperbell if your business is 1:1 packages and you want contracts, forms, a website and payments handled in one tool you will not outgrow quickly on price. Pick Merkora if you mainly sell sessions, courses and live events, want the lowest bill, and are comfortable on a newer product with no public reviews yet.
Pick Merkora if...
- You are pre-revenue and want to build your page at no cost until your first sale.
- You can claim a founding-member spot at $29 a month.
- Late cancellations cost you money and wallet-credit enforcement appeals to you.
- You run live workshops or group events and want streaming and recordings built in.
- You sell recorded courses and do not want a separate video host.
Pick Paperbell if...
- You need signed contracts and intake forms as part of every purchase.
- You want one fixed price with unlimited clients and no feature tiers.
- Some of your clients pay by PayPal.
- You want a tool with a public track record and reviews.
- Your work is mainly 1:1 and you do not need courses beyond simple classes.

Is there a third option that beats both?
Yes, for coaches whose clients need support between sessions: Coachful puts booking, payments, contracts, program delivery, courses, a community, a website and email in one login, with one branded app for clients. For a coach who only sells sessions and wants the lowest bill, Merkora or Paperbell may be enough.

What Coachful is and who it is for
Coachful is a coaching platform where one subscription covers booking, payments, contracts, program delivery with habits and check-ins, courses, a community, a website with funnels and email, and an AI assistant. It is built for coaches who deliver programs, not just sessions; for solo coaches growing into a small team; and for coaches replacing four to six tools. The company is based in Tallinn, Estonia, and has a Trustpilot rating of 4.5 from 21 reviews.
Where Merkora and Paperbell stop after the booking, Coachful keeps going. You can run multi-week programs with weekly goals, daily tasks, habits, morning and evening check-ins, goals with progress bars and streaks. Each client record shows goals, check-ins, habits, notes, intake answers, payments and sessions, with a status of thriving, active, quiet or at risk, so you see who needs attention before the next call. Here is a short walkthrough of how programs work:

Michelle, the built-in AI assistant, works from your live practice data: it builds programs, drafts emails and content, summarizes recorded sessions and briefs you before each session. Questions and planning are included in your Coachful membership; confirmed builds and changes use AI credits. You can also set up an AI Coach, an AI version of you that selected clients can chat with between sessions. For credentialed coaches, ICF hour tracking counts coaching hours and distinct clients against ACC, PCC and MCC thresholds and exports a client coaching log.

Why Coachful stands out: a free white-glove service. On every plan, you can ask the Coachful team to build your website, funnel, offer page, program, course outline, email sequence, form or automation inside your own account. From Create, choose "We'll build it for you", describe what you want, and attach up to 8 reference links and up to 10 files such as logos, photos and existing copy. Builds usually arrive within about 24 hours. Nothing is invented: no fake credentials, testimonials or prices, and gaps are left for you to fill. A leadership coach with a Squarespace renewal days away, for example, got one clean homepage with a repeated "talk with me" button; a real-estate and money coach got a year-long cohort program with an application form, an eight-page site and a free nine-day bootcamp funnel. It does not include recording videos, logo design, ad management or ongoing marketing. Read more about the free white-glove service.

What Coachful does not do
- It is not HIPAA-certified and does not sign a BAA, so it is not for clinical records or insurance billing.
- It does not support PayPal, and it has no permanent free plan. Merkora's Free plan and Paperbell's PayPal support are real advantages here.
- The client app ships under the Coachful listing with your branding, not in your own App Store account.
- It has no Garmin, Fitbit, Whoop or Oura sync, and no stock exercise videos.
- It has no multi-stage sales deal board for large teams and no Salesforce or HubSpot integration.
- It is not a course marketplace and not a general website builder for non-coaching sites.
When Merkora or Paperbell is the better choice
Pick Merkora over Coachful if you have not made your first sale and want to pay nothing until you do, or if built-in live streaming for events of up to 200 people is central to your offer. Pick Paperbell over Coachful if many clients pay by PayPal, or if you sell only 1:1 packages and want one flat price with nothing to set up beyond booking, contracts and a basic site. For a direct comparison, see Coachful vs Paperbell.
