Practice Better vs Skool (2026): Which Fits Your Coaching?

Practice better vs Skool is really a question about what kind of coaching business you run. Practice Better is practice-management software for wellness and nutrition practitioners: scheduling, telehealth video, charting, billing and a client portal for 1:1 work. Skool is a paid community with a classroom, a calendar and gamified leaderboards, built for selling memberships to groups. If your income comes from 1:1 clients with forms and session notes, Practice Better is the closer fit. If it comes from a membership where members learn from each other, Skool is. If you need both, neither does the whole job, and that is where a third option comes in.
This guide compares the two on pricing, transaction fees, programs, community, client records and the client experience, using what each vendor documents on its pricing and help pages as listed in October 2026 and what public reviewers report. We make Coachful, so we also explain honestly where Coachful beats both and where it does not.
What is the short answer by use case?
Pick by the shape of your offer, not by feature count. The two tools barely overlap, so the right choice usually becomes obvious once you name how clients pay you and where they spend their time.
- 1:1 nutrition, wellness or functional health clients with intake forms and notes: Practice Better. It has charting, note templates, telehealth and secure messaging built in.
- A paid membership or a free community that feeds a course: Skool. It is cheap to start, simple for members, and the leaderboard nudges people to post.
- Clinical work that needs ePrescribing, fax or insurance-style records: Practice Better, or a dedicated clinical system. Skool is not built for any of this.
- Group programs with daily habits, check-ins and a community, plus 1:1 sessions, payments and a website: neither tool alone. You would need Practice Better plus a community tool plus a website builder, or an all-in-one coaching platform such as Coachful.
If you are still unsure what Practice Better is like for non-clinical coaches, our Practice Better for coaches guide goes deeper.
How do Practice Better and Skool compare side by side?
Practice Better is a back office for one practitioner's clients; Skool is a front room where many members gather. The table below puts them next to each other, with Coachful included as the third option.
Ranking criteria: one login for the whole client journey, between-session delivery, total stack cost, and setup effort (including a free white-glove build).
| Tool | Built for | 1:1 booking | Client records | Community | Website and funnels | Habits and check-ins |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Coachful | Coaches who deliver programs, solo or small team | Yes, with two-way calendar sync and paid sessions | Yes: goals, check-ins, habits, notes, intake answers, payments | Yes: feed, group chat, DMs, video events, cohort groups | Yes: website builder, blog, funnels, email sequences | Yes: daily tasks, habits, morning and evening check-ins, streaks |
| Practice Better | Wellness and nutrition practitioners | Yes, with telehealth video | Yes: charting, forms, note templates | Group messaging from Professional; no community feed | No website builder or funnel pages (September 2026 profile) | Programs; evergreen programs from Plus |
| Skool | Paid and free online communities | No 1:1 booking pages; group calendar only | No 1:1 client records or intake forms | Yes: feed, classroom, leaderboards | No custom-domain website, funnels or email automation | No habits or check-ins |
The pattern is clear. Practice Better covers the private side of coaching. Skool covers the public, social side. A coach running a group health program usually needs both sides at once.
What does Practice Better do well, and where does it stop?
Practice Better is strongest when your work looks like a small clinical-style practice: one practitioner, many 1:1 clients, forms before the first visit, and notes after every session.

According to its pricing page as listed in October 2026, every paid plan includes scheduling, telehealth video, billing and payments, secure messaging, a client portal, forms and note templates, and more than 20 integrations. From Professional you add group scheduling and messaging, fixed-date programs, deposits and payment plans, and Zapier. Evergreen (self-paced) programs, portal branding, a personalized URL and SMS only arrive on Plus.
Its add-ons tell you who it is really for: an AI Charting Assistant, ePrescribe, a prescription drug monitoring program (PDMP) add-on and fax numbers. Those are tools for practitioners who sit close to clinical care. A life or mindset coach will pay for structure they never use.
Where it stops for coaches:
- No website builder or funnel pages, according to our September 2026 profile, so you still need a separate site and email tool.
- One practitioner per account below the Team plan.
- No community feed. Group messaging is not the same as a space where members talk to each other.
- Self-paced programs require Plus, the plan with unlimited clients.
On Trustpilot, Practice Better showed 3.8 from 87 reviews as listed in October 2026. For a full breakdown, see our Practice Better review and the guide to what clients see in the Practice Better portal.
What does Skool do well, and where does it stop?
Skool is strongest when your product is the group: a community, a classroom of courses, and a calendar of live calls, all on one simple page that members find easy to use.

Both Skool plans, as listed in October 2026, include unlimited members, courses, videos and live calls. Hobby adds a custom URL and affiliates. The gamified leaderboard rewards members for taking part, which is the main reason coaches pick Skool for engagement.
Where it stops for coaches:
- No 1:1 client records, intake forms, habits or check-ins. You cannot keep private session notes on a member.
- No custom-domain website, funnels, email automation or public API.
- Payments run only through Skool Payments, with a per-transaction fee on both plans.
- Each community is a separate subscription, so running a free community and a paid one means paying twice.
- Member data exports to CSV (name, email, join date, membership answers), but posts, DMs and course progress are not exportable, according to our September 2026 profile.
On Trustpilot, Skool showed 1.6 from 54 reviews as listed in October 2026. Our landing page on Coachful vs Skool covers the community side in more detail, and Skool vs Circle compares it with another community tool.
How does pricing compare between Practice Better and Skool?
Skool is cheaper to start; Practice Better scales by client count and features. The bigger difference is in fees: Skool takes a cut of every payment, while Practice Better lists no platform fee.
| Tool | Entry paid plan | Mid plan | Unlimited clients or members | Transaction fee | Trial or no-cost tier |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Coachful | Lite: $29/month for up to 5 clients | Solo: $49/month for up to 20 clients | Pro: $99/month with unlimited clients | 0% platform fee; only Stripe or Razorpay processing | A free trial |
| Practice Better | Starter $35/mo ($25/mo annual), 10 clients | Professional $69/mo ($59/mo annual), 300 clients | Plus $99/mo ($89/mo annual) | No platform fee stated; Practice Better Payments (Stripe), rates not listed | Sprout plan at $0 for 3 clients; 14-day trial on paid plans, 30 days on Team |
| Skool | Hobby $9/mo (about $7.50/mo annual) | None | Pro $99/mo (about $82.50/mo annual) | Hobby 10% + 30¢; Pro 2.9% + 30¢ up to $899, 3.9% + 30¢ above $900 | "Try for free" buttons; length not stated |
A few notes from the vendor pages. Practice Better's Professional card says "Save $84/year", which implies about $62 a month annually, while its table shows $59, so the page is inconsistent. Its Team plan is $155 a month ($145 annual) for 2 practitioners, with up to 200 at $50 each. Skool advertises yearly billing as "2 months free" but does not print yearly amounts, so the annual figures above are 10 months divided by 12. Skool's fees are non-refundable and payouts go out weekly on Wednesdays.

What do the add-ons cost?
Skool lists no add-ons. Practice Better lists several, as of October 2026:
- AI Charting Assistant: $10, $20 or $40 per practitioner per month (1,200, 3,600 or 7,200 minutes), then 2¢ per extra minute.
- Connector Hub: $49/mo on Plus and Team.
- ePrescribe: $49/mo plus $99 one-time onboarding per prescriber; PDMP $5/mo plus $399 onboarding.
- SMS 5¢ per text, fax 10¢ per page, extra admin $10/mo, extra storage $1/GB/mo on Professional.

What do Skool's fees mean in real money?
Here is an illustrative example. Say 40 members pay $49 a month for your community, about $1,960 a month in sales across 40 transactions.
- On Hobby: 10% of $1,960 is $196, plus 40 × 30¢ = $12, so about $208 a month in fees on top of the $9 plan.
- On Pro: 2.9% of $1,960 is about $56.84, plus $12, so about $68.84 a month in fees on top of the $99 plan.
In this example Pro costs about $168 a month all-in and Hobby about $217. Run the same sum with your own price and member count before you pick a plan. Practice Better does not publish its processing rate, so check it inside the account before you compare.
What does a realistic stack cost?
Neither tool covers a full coaching business alone. Practice Better has no website or funnels; Skool has no 1:1 records, booking pages or email automation. A coach running a group health program with 1:1 calls often ends up paying for Practice Better Plus ($99/mo), Skool Pro ($99/mo plus fees), and a website and email tool on top. That is at least $198 a month before the website, the email list and Skool's transaction fees. Total stack cost is the reason an all-in-one is worth pricing out, which we do further down.
How do the features compare, one by one?
Feature by feature, Practice Better wins on private client work and Skool wins on group engagement. The table and sections below show where each one leaves a gap.
| Feature | Coachful | Practice Better | Skool |
|---|---|---|---|
| Coachful: how features are packaged | All features below are included in your Coachful membership; plans differ by client count and seats | Features unlock by plan (Starter to Team) | Same features on both plans; the fee differs |
| Booking pages and calendar sync | Availability rules, buffers, minimum notice, two-way Google, Apple and Outlook sync | Scheduling on every paid plan; group scheduling from Professional | Group calendar for events; no 1:1 booking pages |
| Video calls | Built-in video or auto-created Zoom, Meet or Teams links | Telehealth video included | Live calls listed on both plans |
| Payments | Your own Stripe Connect or Razorpay; subscriptions, payment plans, coupons, order bumps | Practice Better Payments (Stripe); deposits and payment plans from Professional | Skool Payments only |
| Contracts | Coaching agreements with e-signature before the first call | Forms and note templates | Not listed |
| Programs | Multi-week programs with weekly goals, daily tasks, habits, check-ins | Fixed-date from Professional; evergreen from Plus | Classroom courses |
| Courses | Modules, lessons, drip, completion tracking, 48 course templates | Through programs | Unlimited courses in the classroom |
| Community | Feed, group chat, DMs, video events, automatic cohort groups | Group messaging from Professional | Community feed with leaderboards |
| Website, funnels, email | Website builder, funnels, email sequences with branching | Not offered (September 2026 profile) | Not offered |
| AI | Michelle assistant and an AI Coach for selected clients | AI Charting Assistant add-on | Not listed |
| Team | Coach seats on Studio and Agency | Team plan, 2 practitioners and up | Admins in one community |
Scheduling and sessions
Practice Better has real 1:1 scheduling with telehealth video on every paid plan, and group scheduling from Professional. Skool's calendar lists community events and live calls; it does not let a client book a private slot with you. If 1:1 sessions are any part of your income, Skool needs a separate booking tool.
Client records and notes
This is Practice Better's home ground: forms, note templates and charting, with an AI Charting Assistant as an add-on. Skool has member profiles and membership answers, but no private notes, intake forms or session history. Coaches who use Skool for groups usually keep client notes somewhere else.
Programs and courses
Skool's classroom holds unlimited courses on both plans, which suits a membership with a content library. Practice Better offers programs, but fixed-date programs start on Professional and evergreen ones on Plus. Neither documents daily habits or morning and evening check-ins for clients.
Community and engagement
Skool wins clearly here. The feed and leaderboard are the product. Practice Better offers group messaging, which helps announce things to a group, but members are not building relationships with each other in the same way. If peer support is part of your program, Skool or another community tool fills that gap. Our Circle vs Practice Better comparison covers a similar trade-off.
Marketing
Neither tool gives you a custom-domain website with funnels and email automation. Skool's affiliate feature can help members bring in others, but you still need a landing page and an email list you own. With Practice Better, you need a website builder and an email platform from day one.
Data portability
Practice Better emails a per-client archive (notes, invoices, forms) that is kept for 48 hours, exports the contact list as a spreadsheet, and offers bulk export on request, according to our September 2026 profile. Skool exports members to CSV but not posts, DMs or course progress. If you leave Skool, your community history stays behind.
What is the client experience like on each?
Practice Better clients get a private portal for forms, bookings, messages and programs; Skool members get a shared social space. The experience matches the business model.
A Practice Better client logs in to fill in intake forms, book appointments, join telehealth calls, message the practitioner securely and work through programs. Branding of the portal and a personalized URL require Plus. For clients this feels like a well-organized clinic. Our guide to the Practice Better app describes what clients and practitioners get on mobile.
A Skool member lands in a community feed, scrolls posts, opens the classroom for courses and checks the calendar for the next live call. It feels like a focused social network. What members do not get is anything private and personal from you: no tasks set for them, no habit tracker, no check-in that you read before the next call.
If your clients need both, they end up with two logins and two apps, and you end up copying information between them. That split is the most common reason coaches look for a third option.
Which should you pick for which kind of coach?
Match the tool to how your clients pay you and what they need between sessions. Here is how we would decide for common coaching niches.
- Nutrition and functional health practitioners with 1:1 clients: Practice Better, especially if you use charting or ePrescribe. See Practice Better alternatives for nutrition coaches if your work is coaching rather than clinical.
- Creators selling a community membership with courses: Skool, on Pro once your sales are high enough that the lower fee pays for the plan.
- Health and wellness coaches running group programs: neither alone. You need habits, check-ins, a community and payments together. Our list of Practice Better alternatives for health coaches compares options.
- Life, mindset and business coaches with 1:1 packages: Practice Better is more clinical than you need, and Skool has no 1:1 tools. See Practice Better alternatives for life coaches.
- Fitness coaches: neither has a workout builder. Read Practice Better alternatives for fitness coaches.
One scope note for health niches: coaching is not medical treatment. Health and wellness coaches support behavior change; they do not diagnose, prescribe or treat. Refer clients to a doctor or licensed clinician when they report symptoms, medication questions, disordered eating or anything outside your training. Board-certified health and wellness coaches follow standards from the National Board for Health & Wellness Coaching. If you are a covered entity handling protected health information, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services explains who HIPAA applies to; check with an attorney if you are unsure.
Is there a third option that does both?
Yes. Coachful puts 1:1 sessions, client records, programs with habits and check-ins, courses, a community, payments, a website and email into one subscription, with one login for you and one branded app for your clients. It beats both tools for coaches who deliver programs; it does not beat Practice Better for clinical work.

Coachful is built for coaches who deliver programs, not just sessions: solo coaches growing into a small team, and coaches replacing 4 to 6 tools. If you are weighing Practice Better plus Skool plus a website builder, you are its target user. The full side-by-side lives on our Coachful vs Practice Better page and in Practice Better vs Coachful.
Where does Coachful beat Practice Better?
- Between-session delivery: multi-week programs with weekly goals, daily tasks, habits, morning and evening check-ins, goals with progress bars and streaks.
- Community: a feed, group chat, direct messages and video events, with cohort groups created automatically when a client enrolls in a program.
- Marketing: a section-based website builder with blog, custom domain and 30 homepage templates; booking, application, lead-magnet and checkout funnels; email broadcasts and sequences with branching and A/B splits.
- Payments: your own Stripe Connect or Razorpay account, with subscriptions, payment plans, order bumps, coupons, Apple Pay and Google Pay, and 0% platform fee since August 2026.

Where does Coachful beat Skool?
- 1:1 work: booking pages with availability rules, buffers and time-zone detection; two-way calendar sync; reminders by email, plus SMS and WhatsApp once messaging is enabled; paid sessions and session credits.
- Client records: goals, check-ins, habits, notes, intake answers, tags, payments and sessions per client, with a status of thriving, active, quiet or at risk.
- No cut of your sales: Coachful charges no platform fee on client payments, only processing from Stripe or Razorpay.
- Data you can take with you: a full client data export as a ZIP, plus course export.

Here is a short walkthrough of how programs are built and delivered in Coachful:
What else is included?
Courses with modules, drip and completion tracking; contracts with e-signature before the first call; Michelle, the built-in AI assistant that works from your live practice data to draft programs and emails, summarize recorded sessions and brief you before sessions; and ICF credential tracking that counts coaching hours against ICF credential thresholds. Templates include more than 40 program templates and 48 course templates. All of this is included in your Coachful membership; Michelle's confirmed builds use AI credits.

Coachful prices by plan, with lower plans capping the number of clients, Pro unlimited, and team plans adding seats (Lite: $29/month for up to 5 clients; Solo: $49/month for up to 20 clients; Pro: $99/month with unlimited clients; Studio: $199/month with unlimited clients). Monthly plans cancel in one click.

Why Coachful stands out
Why Coachful stands out: a free white-glove service. From Create > We'll build it for you, you describe what you want built: a website, funnel, sales page, program, course outline, email sequence, form, link in bio or something else. You can attach up to 8 reference links and up to 10 files such as logos, photos and brand guides. The Coachful team builds it inside your own account, usually within about 24 hours. Nothing gets invented: no fake credentials, testimonials or prices, and gaps are left for you to fill. It does not cover recording videos, logo design, ad management or ongoing marketing.

Recent anonymized builds show the range. A menopause and midlife health coach starting from nothing got a five-page site in sage and cream, with every button leading to a free 20-minute consultation. A business mentor for beauty professionals got a 12-week mentorship sales page, a start-up-guide funnel and rewritten follow-up emails. A real-estate and money coach got a year-long cohort program with an application form, an eight-page site and a nine-day bootcamp funnel. Read more in how the free white-glove service works. Coaches moving from Practice Better also have clients, programs and content imported during onboarding; our Practice Better migration guide covers the steps.

When does Coachful not beat them?
Be honest with yourself about these limits before you switch:
- Clinical work: Coachful is not HIPAA-certified and does not sign a BAA. It is not for clinical record-keeping or insurance billing, and it has no ePrescribing or fax. If you need those, stay with Practice Better or another clinical system.
- A no-cost starter tier: Practice Better's Sprout plan costs $0 for 3 clients. Coachful offers a free trial rather than a permanent tier at no cost.
- PayPal: Coachful does not support PayPal.
- Pure community products: Skool's leaderboard-driven engagement is its whole design. If you only sell a membership and never see clients 1:1, Skool's simplicity may suit you better.
- Your own app store listing: the client app ships under the Coachful listing with your branding, not under your own App Store account.
- Wearables: no Garmin, Fitbit, Whoop or Oura sync.

How do you start?
Start a free trial, then request a build from Create > We'll build it for you so your website, first program or funnel is ready when you are. Import your existing clients during onboarding. Check the plans page to see which tier fits your client count, and the group coaching software page if community is your priority. Health coaches can also look at Coachful for health coaches.
How do the three options compare on total cost?
The cheapest tool is not always the cheapest stack. Count every subscription and every fee you would pay to run your whole business.
| Setup | What you pay for | Gaps left | Logins for clients |
|---|---|---|---|
| Coachful alone | One plan (Pro: $99/month with unlimited clients) plus Stripe or Razorpay processing | Clinical records, PayPal, wearables | One branded app |
| Practice Better Plus alone | $99/mo plus processing and any add-ons | Community, website, funnels, email automation | One portal |
| Skool Pro alone | $99/mo plus 2.9% + 30¢ per transaction | 1:1 booking, client records, website, email automation | One community |
| Practice Better Plus + Skool Pro | $198/mo plus Skool fees, plus a website and email tool | Website and email until you add another tool | Two, plus your website |
Prices for Practice Better and Skool are as listed in October 2026. For a coach with a group program and 1:1 clients, the combined stack also costs time: two places to update, two sets of notifications, and clients who ask where to find things.
Frequently asked questions
Is Practice Better or Skool better for health coaches?
For 1:1 health coaching with intake forms and notes, Practice Better fits better because it has charting, telehealth and a client portal. Skool fits only if your offer is a group membership. Health coaches running group programs with habits and check-ins often need a platform that does both.
Can I use Practice Better and Skool together?
Yes, many coaches do: Practice Better for 1:1 clients and Skool for the community. The cost is two subscriptions, Skool's transaction fees, two logins for clients, and still no website or email automation.
Does Skool charge transaction fees?
Yes. As listed in October 2026, Hobby charges 10% + 30¢ on all transactions, and Pro charges 2.9% + 30¢ up to $899 and 3.9% + 30¢ above $900. Fees are non-refundable, and payments run only through Skool Payments.
Does Practice Better have a community feature?
Practice Better offers group scheduling and group messaging from the Professional plan, but no community feed where members post and talk to each other. Coaches who want peer support usually add a separate community tool.
Is there a no-cost version of either tool?
Practice Better's Sprout plan costs $0 for 3 clients, 1 practitioner and 100 MB, aimed at students and new practitioners. Skool has no permanent no-cost plan; its pricing page shows "Try for free" buttons without a stated trial length.
Can I build a website with Practice Better or Skool?
Not a full one. Practice Better has no website builder or funnel pages according to our September 2026 profile, and Skool has no custom-domain website, funnels or email automation. Both need a separate site.
Is Coachful HIPAA compliant?
No. Coachful is not HIPAA-certified and does not sign a BAA, so it is not for clinical records or insurance billing. Coaches doing clinical work should keep those records in a clinical system.
What is Coachful's free white-glove service?
It is a build service on every plan: you describe a website, funnel, program, course outline, email sequence or similar, attach up to 8 links and 10 files, and the Coachful team builds it inside your account, usually within about 24 hours. It does not include video recording, logo design or ad management.
Can I move my clients from Practice Better or Skool to Coachful?
Yes. Practice Better offers per-client archives and a contact spreadsheet, and Skool exports members to CSV. Coachful imports clients, programs and content for you during onboarding. Skool posts, DMs and course progress cannot be exported, so plan to rebuild course content.
Which is cheaper, Practice Better or Skool?
Skool's Hobby plan is cheaper at $9 a month, but its 10% fee grows with your sales. Practice Better's Starter plan is $35 a month for 10 clients with no stated platform fee. Compare total cost with your own client numbers, including every tool you would add.
