Thinkific vs Systeme io for Coaches (2026): Which Fits?

In the thinkific vs systeme io decision, the short version is this: Thinkific is a dedicated course platform with cohorts, communities and memberships, priced from $109 a month as listed in October 2026, while Systeme.io is a low-cost marketing suite of funnels, email, courses and a blog that starts with a free plan and tops out at $97 a month. Pick Thinkific if your business is mainly courses sold to many students. Pick Systeme.io if you need cheap funnels and email to fill a pipeline. If your coaching runs on 1:1 sessions, programs and client follow-through, neither was built for that, and a coaching platform is worth a look.
We make Coachful, a coaching platform, so we have a stake in this comparison. We will keep the Thinkific and Systeme.io facts to what each vendor documents on its own pages and what public reviewers report, and we will be plain about where Coachful is the wrong choice. We have not run paid accounts on either vendor for this article; every price below comes from the vendor's own pricing pages as listed in October 2026.
Thinkific vs Systeme io: what is the short answer by use case?
Thinkific wins for course-first businesses that need quizzes, certificates, live cohorts and a large student base. Systeme.io wins for coaches on a tight budget who mainly need landing pages, funnels and email, with a simple course on the side.
- You sell a signature course to hundreds or thousands of students: Thinkific. Its Start plan covers 10,000 current students, unlimited courses, quizzes, certificates and live cohorts with Zoom.
- You are starting out with no budget and need a lead magnet, an email list and a sales page: Systeme.io. The free plan gives you 2,000 contacts, 3 funnels and 1 course with no credit card.
- You run evergreen webinars to sell a program: Systeme.io's Webinar plan ($47 a month) lists evergreen webinars; Thinkific lists coaching and webinar products, but its strength is the learning area, not the funnel in front of it.
- You coach clients 1:1 or in small groups and need booking, contracts, payments, check-ins and habit tracking: neither tool covers this natively. You would bolt on a scheduler, an e-signature tool and a client tracker, or use a coaching platform such as Coachful.
- You want a branded mobile app for students: Thinkific sells one as a $199 a month add-on (included on select Plus contracts). Systeme.io's older profile notes no branded app.
If you already know you want one of the two, our deeper write-ups go further: the Thinkific review and the Systeme.io review.

How do Thinkific and Systeme.io compare side by side?
Thinkific is deeper on course delivery and learning features; Systeme.io is broader on marketing and far cheaper. The table adds Coachful as the third column of the decision, because many coaches comparing these two actually need client delivery rather than a course store.
How we ranked them: one login for the whole client journey, delivery between sessions (programs, habits, check-ins), total stack cost once you add the tools each one lacks, and setup effort, including whether someone will build it for you.
| Platform | Built for | Entry price | 1:1 booking | Habits and check-ins | Funnels and email | Client app |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Coachful | Coaches delivering programs and sessions | Lite: $29/month for up to 5 clients | Yes, with two-way calendar sync and video links | Yes: habits, morning and evening check-ins, streaks | Yes: funnels, lists, broadcasts, sequences | Coach's branding inside the Coachful app |
| Thinkific | Course creators and education businesses | $109/mo, or $82/mo billed annually | No native 1:1 scheduling (relies on external booking links) | No | Bundles, upsells, payment plans; email marketing is not its focus | Branded app as a $199/mo add-on |
| Systeme.io | Low-cost marketing for online businesses | Free plan; paid from $17/mo | No native 1:1 scheduling with client records | No | Yes: funnels, email campaigns, automation rules | No branded app |
Two things stand out. First, the price gap is large: Systeme.io's top Unlimited plan ($97 a month) costs less than Thinkific's entry Start plan ($109 a month). Second, neither tool treats the individual client as the center of the system. Both are built around products: a course, a funnel, a membership. That is fine for selling knowledge at scale and awkward for coaching relationships.
How much do Thinkific and Systeme.io cost in 2026?
Systeme.io runs from free to $97 a month with 0% transaction fees on every plan. Thinkific runs from $109 a month ($82 billed annually) to $499 a month on Expand, with a custom-priced Plus tier above it.
| Platform and plan | Monthly billing | Annual billing (per month) | Main limits | Platform transaction fee |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Coachful | Lite: $29/month for up to 5 clients | Pro: $99/month with unlimited clients | Lower plans cap client count; Pro is unlimited; team plans add seats | 0% platform fee; only Stripe or Razorpay processing |
| Systeme.io Free | $0 | $0 | 2,000 contacts, 3 funnels, 1 course, 500 students, 1 automation rule, 1 email campaign | 0% |
| Systeme.io Startup | $17 | "2 months free" on yearly | 5,000 contacts, 10 funnels, 5 courses | 0% |
| Systeme.io Webinar | $47 | "2 months free" on yearly | 10,000 contacts, 50 funnels, 20 courses, evergreen webinars | 0% |
| Systeme.io Unlimited | $97 | "2 months free" on yearly | Unlimited contacts, funnels, courses, automation rules | 0% |
| Thinkific Start | $109 | $82 | 10,000 current students, 2 admins, 1 community, 200 GB/mo video bandwidth | 0% with Thinkific Payments; extra gateway fee on Stripe or PayPal |
| Thinkific Grow | $219 | $164 | 6 admins, 3 communities, 400 GB/mo, branding removed, API and webhooks | Same as Start |
| Thinkific Expand | $499 | $374 | 15 admins, 10 communities, 1,000 GB/mo, email white-labeling | Same as Start |
| Thinkific Plus | Custom | Custom | SSO, SCORM, HubSpot and Salesforce, branded app on select contracts | Custom |
A few details matter more than the headline numbers:
- Thinkific raised prices on August 13, 2026. Start went from $99 to $109 and Grow from $199 to $219. The older Basic plan ($49) no longer appears on the public pricing page. Our Thinkific pricing breakdown tracks the history.
- Thinkific's pricing page may show euros. In October 2026 it rendered Start at €107 monthly or €79 annually for our region; the US dollar figures above come from Thinkific's own official AI information page, which it marks as confirmed in October 2026.
- Thinkific's payment fees depend on the processor. Thinkific Payments carries no Thinkific transaction fee, at a processing rate it describes as "in line with other processors at 2.9%". Connecting Stripe or PayPal directly adds a per-plan gateway fee that the pricing page does not list.
- Systeme.io's annual pricing is "2 months free", but the yearly totals are no longer printed on the page. An older profile listed $170, $470 and $970 per year. The page uses "$" without naming the currency. See the Systeme.io pricing guide for the plan-by-plan detail.
- Trials: Thinkific offers a 30-day free trial on every self-serve plan. Systeme.io has no trial because its free plan never expires and needs no card.

What does the full stack cost for a coach?
The platform fee is only part of the bill. A coach running 1:1 sessions on either tool will usually add a scheduling app, an e-signature tool for coaching agreements, and some way to track client progress between sessions. Here is an illustrative example, not a quote: a coach on Thinkific Start pays $109 a month before any booking or contract software, and adds $199 a month if they want a branded student app. A coach on Systeme.io Startup pays $17 a month, then layers the same add-ons on top. Either way, the real comparison is the total of every subscription you need, plus the time spent wiring them together.
Coachful packs booking, payments, contracts, programs, habits, check-ins, courses, community, website, funnels and email into one membership (current plans: Lite: $29/month for up to 5 clients; Solo: $49/month for up to 20 clients; Pro: $99/month with unlimited clients; Studio: $199/month with unlimited clients), which is why total stack cost is one of the ranking criteria above.
Which is better for selling online courses?
Thinkific is clearly the stronger course platform. Systeme.io can host and sell courses, but its course features are basic and its plans cap the number of courses on Free, Startup and Webinar.
On Thinkific Start, the vendor lists unlimited courses, digital downloads, coaching and webinar products, live cohorts with Zoom, quizzes, certificates, bundles, upsells, payment plans and memberships, all on your own custom domain. Grow adds exams and question banks, B2B sales with invoicing, and engagement reports. Plus adds an AI teaching assistant, SCORM and learning paths. If you are building a certification program or selling training to companies, that depth is the reason to pay Thinkific's price.
Systeme.io's courses sit inside the same account as your funnels and email, which is convenient. The free plan includes 1 course and 500 students; Startup raises that to 5 courses and Webinar to 20; Unlimited removes the cap. Our older profile describes the course and community features as basic: fine for a mini course or a lead-magnet training, thinner for a flagship curriculum.
Coachful sits between the two for coaches. Its courses have modules, lessons, drip release and completion tracking, and there are 48 course templates with quizzes. Courses are delivered into the client's branded home alongside their program, sessions and habits, rather than in a separate school. It is not a course marketplace and does not offer SCORM, so a corporate training company is better served by Thinkific. More on this in our guide to an online course platform for coaches.

Which is better for funnels, email and marketing?
Systeme.io is the better marketing tool of the two. Funnels, email campaigns, automation rules, a blog and an affiliate program are its core, while Thinkific focuses on the learning experience and sales pages for its own products.
Systeme.io's free plan already includes funnels, unlimited emails, a blog, an affiliate program, a custom domain and one automation rule. Paid plans mostly raise the limits: 10 funnels on Startup, 50 on Webinar, unlimited on the Unlimited plan, plus evergreen webinars from the Webinar plan up. For a coach whose bottleneck is getting leads onto a list and into a sales call, that is a lot of reach for the price. We compare it with other funnel builders in Systeme.io vs ClickFunnels and GoHighLevel vs Systeme.io.
Thinkific gives you your school on a custom domain, checkout with bundles, upsells and payment plans, and on Expand, email white-labeling. Its pricing page does not position it as a full email marketing or funnel suite, so many Thinkific users pair it with a separate email tool.
Coachful covers the marketing side too: a section-based website builder with a blog and custom domain, 30 designed homepage templates, booking, application, lead-magnet and checkout funnels with pixels and UTM tracking, email lists, broadcasts and multi-step sequences with triggers, delays, branching and A/B splits. It also has a social planner and Instagram automations, so a comment with a keyword can trigger a DM with your booking link or lead magnet. The difference from Systeme.io is that every lead lands in the same records you later coach from. See the coach website builder page for detail.

Can Thinkific or Systeme.io run 1:1 coaching?
Not on their own. Neither Thinkific nor Systeme.io has native 1:1 scheduling tied to client records, and neither offers habits, daily check-ins or per-client plans. Coaches on either tool usually connect an external booking app.
Thinkific lists "coaching" as a product type, and our older profile notes that coaching relies on external booking links. You can sell a coaching package as a product and send buyers to a separate calendar. Systeme.io's older profile likewise notes no native 1:1 scheduling with client records, habits or check-ins. In both cases, the coaching relationship itself (notes, goals, agreements, progress between calls) lives somewhere else.
This is where the comparison shifts for most coaches. If you mostly sell sessions and programs, the parts you need every day are:
- Booking with availability rules, buffers, minimum notice and time-zone detection, synced with Google, Apple or Outlook calendars.
- Payments for packages, subscriptions and payment plans, plus session credits.
- Agreements signed before the first call.
- A client record with goals, notes, intake answers, payments and session history.
- Delivery between sessions: weekly goals, daily tasks, habits and check-ins.
Coachful handles all five in one place. Booking pages support two-way Google, Apple/iCloud and Outlook calendar sync, built-in video or auto-created Zoom, Meet and Teams links, email reminders, and SMS and WhatsApp reminders once messaging is enabled. Payments go through your own Stripe Connect or Razorpay account. Coaching agreements are e-signed before the first call and stored on the client record. Our scheduling software page walks through the booking side.
Here is a short walkthrough of how scheduling works inside Coachful:

How do community, cohorts and memberships compare?
Thinkific has the more structured community and cohort tools; Systeme.io includes a basic community that is enough for a small group but not for a large membership.
Thinkific Start includes 1 community with 10 spaces, 5 live community events and live cohorts with a maximum group size of 50. Grow raises that to 3 communities, 20 spaces and groups of 100; Expand to 10 communities, 200 spaces and unlimited group size. Memberships are included from Start. For a cohort course with a fixed start date and a few hundred learners, that structure works well.
Systeme.io lists community among its features, and our profile describes it as basic. It suits a free group around a lead magnet or a small paid circle more than a busy membership.
Coachful's community includes a feed, group chat, direct messages and video events. When a client enrolls in a program, a cohort group is created automatically, so a group program does not need manual setup. Group calls and webinars run from the same calendar as 1:1 sessions. Read more on the group coaching software page.

What is the client experience like on each platform?
On Thinkific, your clients experience a course school: log in, watch lessons, take quizzes, join the community. On Systeme.io, they experience a funnel, then a members area for courses. On Coachful, they get one coaching home that holds sessions, programs, habits, courses and messages.
The client experience matters more for coaching than for courses. A course student needs to find the next lesson. A coaching client needs to know when the next session is, what they committed to this week, whether they are keeping their habits, and how to reach you. When those live in four different tools, clients have four logins and you have four places to check.
| Platform | Where the client logs in | What they see | Between-session support | Mobile |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Coachful | One branded client home | Next session, programs, goals with progress bars, habits, courses, community, documents | Daily tasks, habits, morning and evening check-ins, streaks, optional AI Coach | Coachful app under your branding |
| Thinkific | Course school on your domain | Courses, quizzes, certificates, community spaces, cohorts | Community posts and live events; no per-client plans | Branded app as a $199/mo add-on |
| Systeme.io | Members area for courses | Courses and community | Email sequences; no per-client plans | No branded app |

One more client-facing difference: payments. Systeme.io supports Stripe and PayPal. Thinkific supports Thinkific Payments, Stripe and PayPal, with a gateway fee for the latter two. Coachful supports Stripe and Razorpay, including Apple Pay and Google Pay, but not PayPal. If many of your clients insist on PayPal, that is a real reason to choose one of the other two.
How do data export, support and reviews compare?
Systeme.io has far stronger public reviews. Both export contacts or students to CSV, and neither bulk-exports courses, so plan for manual work if you ever leave either one.
- Reviews. As listed in October 2026, Systeme.io had a Trustpilot score of 4.9 from 8,696 reviews. Thinkific had 1.8 from 868 reviews. Trustpilot scores reflect who chooses to review, so read the complaints themselves before deciding; for Thinkific, recent price rises are part of the context.
- Export. Systeme.io exports contacts to CSV through an emailed link valid for 3 days; courses and pages are not bulk-exportable (older profile). Thinkific exports students and your email list to CSV, and course content is downloaded manually (older profile). Our guide on how to migrate from Thinkific covers the steps.
- Support. Thinkific adds phone and priority chat on Grow and dedicated launch support on Expand.
For comparison, Coachful offers a full client data export as a ZIP (roster, notes, check-ins, goals, habits, sessions, form responses) plus course export, and imports your clients, programs and content for you during onboarding. Coachful's Trustpilot score was 4.5 from 21 reviews, a much smaller sample than either vendor here.
Which should you pick for your kind of coaching?
Match the tool to how you earn: course sales point to Thinkific, cheap lead generation points to Systeme.io, and client programs with sessions point to a coaching platform.
- New coach with no budget: Systeme.io's free plan is hard to beat for a first funnel and email list. Expect to add a booking tool once clients arrive. If you want everything in one place from day one, see Coachful for new coaches.
- Course creator or educator: Thinkific. Quizzes, certificates, cohorts, exams on Grow and SCORM on Plus make it a real learning platform.
- Business or executive coach selling high-ticket 1:1 work: neither fits well. You need booking, agreements, invoices and a client record more than a course school. See Coachful for business coaches.
- Health, fitness or habit-based coach: neither has habits or check-ins. Coachful's habit tracking and its Fitness and Nutrition pack fit this work; note that coaching is not medical care, and clients with health conditions should be cleared by their doctor. See Coachful for health coaches.
- Group program coach: Thinkific's cohorts work for course-led groups; Coachful's auto-created cohort groups plus program delivery work for coaching-led groups.
- Coach selling through evergreen webinars: Systeme.io's Webinar plan is built for it.
Weighing other options? Our lists of Thinkific alternatives for coaches and Systeme.io alternatives cover more tools, and Kajabi vs Thinkific and Systeme.io vs Kajabi compare each with Kajabi.
Is there a third option? When Coachful beats both, and when it does not
Yes. Coachful is a coaching platform that covers the course and marketing basics of both tools plus the 1:1 and program delivery neither offers. It beats both when your income comes from coaching clients; it loses when your income comes from mass course sales or when you need PayPal.

What Coachful is. One subscription covers booking, payments, contracts, program delivery with habits and check-ins, courses, a community, a website with funnels and email, and an AI assistant. The coach has one login; the client has one branded app. It is built for coaches who deliver programs, not just sessions, for solo coaches growing into a small team, and for coaches replacing four to six tools. The company is based in Tallinn, Estonia.
What it does that Thinkific and Systeme.io do not:
- Multi-week programs with weekly goals, daily tasks, habits, morning and evening check-ins, goals with progress bars and streaks.
- A client record with goals, check-ins, habits, notes, intake answers, tags, payments, sessions and an AI briefing per client, plus a status of thriving, active, quiet or at risk.
- Booking with intake questions, paid sessions, session credits and round-robin assignment for multi-coach session types.
- Coaching agreements with e-signature, sent before the first call.
- Michelle, the built-in AI assistant, which works from your live practice data to build programs, draft emails, summarize recorded sessions and brief you before sessions. Questions and planning are included in the membership; confirmed builds and changes use AI credits.
- ICF credential tracking that counts coaching hours and distinct clients against ACC, PCC and MCC thresholds and exports an ICF client coaching log. See ICF hour tracking.
Where it overlaps with them: courses with drip and completion tracking, a community with events, a website with blog and custom domain, funnels and email sequences, and 0% platform fee on payments.
When Coachful does not beat them:
- You sell courses to thousands of students and need SCORM, exams or B2B training features: Thinkific is the better fit.
- You need the cheapest possible funnel and email tool and do not coach clients 1:1 yet: Systeme.io's no-cost plan never expires, while Coachful is a paid membership after the trial.
- You need PayPal: Coachful supports Stripe and Razorpay only.
- You want a course marketplace, third-party plugins or a general website for a non-coaching business: Coachful is none of those.
- You keep clinical records: Coachful is not HIPAA-certified and does not sign a BAA.
- You need your own App Store listing: the client app ships under the Coachful listing with your branding.

Why Coachful stands out: a free white-glove service. On every plan, you can ask the Coachful team to build something for you inside your own account: a website, a funnel, a sales page, a program, a course outline and written material, an email sequence, a lead quiz, a form or an automation. From Create, choose "We'll build it for you", describe what you want, and attach up to 8 reference links and up to 10 files such as logos, photos and brand guides. Builds usually arrive within about 24 hours. Nothing is invented: no fake credentials, testimonials or prices, and any gaps are left for you to fill. It does not include recording videos, logo design, ad management or ongoing marketing. A somatic coach leaving Kajabi, for example, had their homepage and About page rebuilt and their contact form connected; a business mentor for beauty professionals got a 12-week mentorship sales page, a free start-up-guide funnel and rewritten follow-up emails. Read more about the free white-glove service.

How to start. Begin a free trial, request a white-glove build of your website or first program, and connect your Stripe or Razorpay account and calendar. If you are moving from Thinkific or Systeme.io, your clients, programs and content are imported for you during onboarding. The Thinkific alternative and Systeme.io alternative pages summarize the switch, and you can compare plans on the plans page.

What is the bottom line on Thinkific vs Systeme.io?
Thinkific is the better course platform and the more expensive one; Systeme.io is the better and much cheaper marketing tool. Neither is a coaching platform.
If your plan is a course with many students, Thinkific's learning features justify its price, though its Trustpilot reviews and August 2026 price rise are worth reading about first. If your plan is to build a list and a funnel on a small budget, Systeme.io's free plan and 0% fees make it the obvious starting point. If your income comes from clients you coach over weeks or months, Coachful puts booking, payments, agreements, programs, habits, courses and marketing in one login, with a white-glove build to set it up, and that combination is why we rank it first for coaches.
Frequently asked questions
Is Systeme.io cheaper than Thinkific?
Yes, by a wide margin. As listed in October 2026, Systeme.io runs from a free plan to $97 a month, while Thinkific starts at $109 a month ($82 billed annually) and goes up to $499 a month on Expand. Systeme.io's most expensive plan costs less than Thinkific's cheapest.
Does Thinkific or Systeme.io have a free plan?
Systeme.io has a free plan that never expires and needs no credit card, with 2,000 contacts, 3 funnels and 1 course. Thinkific has no free plan; it offers a 30-day free trial on its self-serve plans.
Which is better for courses, Thinkific or Systeme.io?
Thinkific. It offers unlimited courses, quizzes, certificates, live cohorts with Zoom and memberships from its Start plan, with exams on Grow and SCORM on Plus. Systeme.io's course features are basic and capped on lower plans.
Can I book 1:1 coaching sessions in Thinkific or Systeme.io?
Not natively. Neither has built-in 1:1 scheduling tied to client records, so coaches usually link to a separate booking app. Coachful includes booking pages with two-way calendar sync, reminders and paid sessions.
Do Thinkific and Systeme.io charge transaction fees?
Systeme.io charges 0% transaction fees on all plans; you pay only Stripe or PayPal processing. Thinkific charges no Thinkific fee when you use Thinkific Payments, but adds a per-plan gateway fee if you connect Stripe or PayPal directly.
Does either platform have a branded mobile app?
Thinkific sells a branded mobile app as a $199 a month add-on, included only on select Plus contracts. Systeme.io does not offer a branded app, according to our older profile of the product.
Can I move from Thinkific or Systeme.io to Coachful?
Yes. Both let you export contacts or students to CSV, and courses usually need to be moved by hand. When you join Coachful, your clients, programs and content are imported for you during onboarding.
What is Coachful's free white-glove service?
It is a build service included on every Coachful plan: you describe a website, funnel, program, email sequence or similar, attach references and files, and the Coachful team builds it inside your account, usually within about 24 hours. It does not include video recording, logo design, ad management or ongoing marketing.
Is Coachful a replacement for Thinkific for large course businesses?
Usually not. Coachful has courses with drip, completion tracking and quiz templates, but no SCORM, exams or course marketplace. If courses for thousands of students are your main product, Thinkific is the stronger choice.
Is any of these platforms HIPAA-compliant?
Coachful is not HIPAA-certified and does not sign a BAA, so clinical records belong in a clinical system. Check directly with Thinkific or Systeme.io before storing health information there. Coaching is not medical treatment; refer clients to a licensed professional when health concerns come up.
