Podia vs Thinkific (2026): Which Fits a Coaching Business?

In the podia vs thinkific decision, Podia is the better pick for most solo coaches: it is cheaper to start, bundles a website, email, community and bookable coaching products into one storefront, and drops its transaction fee from the second plan up. Thinkific is the stronger choice when courses are the business itself: it has deeper course tooling (quizzes, certificates, exams, live cohorts), higher student limits and room for a team, but it costs more and has no built-in 1:1 booking. Neither was designed around running coaching programs with clients between sessions, which is why we end with a third option.
We make Coachful, a coaching platform, so we have a stake in this topic. Below we compare Podia and Thinkific on what they document as of October 2026, what public reviewers report, and where each one fits a coaching business. Where Coachful is a better fit, we say so; where it is not, we say that too.

Podia vs Thinkific: what is the short answer for coaches?
Pick Podia if you sell a mix of small courses, downloads, webinars and coaching calls and want one simple storefront. Pick Thinkific if you are building a serious course business with many students, assessments and certificates. If your income comes mostly from coaching clients through a program, neither is the natural home.
Here is the short answer by use case:
- You sell one or two courses plus a few coaching calls: Podia. Its Mover plan is the cheaper entry point and covers courses, downloads, coaching, webinars, community, a website and email.
- You run a course academy with hundreds or thousands of students: Thinkific. Start allows up to 10,000 current students and adds quizzes, certificates, bundles and live cohorts with Zoom.
- You need exams, question banks or B2B sales to companies: Thinkific Grow, which adds exams, question banks, B2B sales and invoicing, an API and webhooks.
- You want PayPal and affiliates on a budget: Podia Shaker, which adds PayPal, affiliate marketing, upsells and Zapier with a 0% Podia fee.
- You want a branded mobile app: Thinkific, as a paid add-on. Podia did not offer a mobile app in its September 2026 profile.
- You coach clients through multi-week programs with habits, check-ins, booked sessions and contracts: neither. That is where a coaching platform such as Coachful fits, covered in its own section below.
If you want deeper single-vendor detail first, read our Podia review and our Thinkific review.
How do Podia and Thinkific compare side by side?
Podia is a lighter, all-in-one creator storefront; Thinkific is a deeper course platform with more structure and higher prices. The table below adds Coachful as the reference point for coaches.
We rank on four criteria that matter most to coaches: one login for the whole client journey, delivery between sessions, total stack cost, and setup effort (including Coachful's free white-glove build).
| Platform | Built for | Entry price (monthly, October 2026) | Platform fee | 1:1 booking | Habits and check-ins | Courses | Community | Mobile app | Trustpilot | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Coachful | Coaching programs: booking, payments, contracts, habits, check-ins, courses, community, website, email, AI assistant | Lite: $29/month for up to 5 clients | 0%; only Stripe or Razorpay processing | Yes, with two-way Google, Apple/iCloud and Outlook sync | Yes, plus per-client plans | Modules, lessons, drip, completion tracking | Feed, group chat, DMs, video events, automatic cohort groups | Lists, broadcasts, multi-step sequences | Client app with the coach's branding inside the Coachful app | 4.5 from 21 reviews |
| Podia | Creator storefront for courses, downloads, webinars, coaching and community | Mover: $49 | 5% on Mover; 0% on Shaker and Earthquaker | Coaching sold as a storefront product | No | Yes, product and video caps on lower plans | 25 to unlimited spaces by plan | Included, 100 to 1,000 subscribers by plan | None (September 2026 profile) | 4.1 from 153 reviews |
| Thinkific | Course platform with communities, memberships and coaching/webinar products | Start: $109 | 0% with Thinkific Payments; extra gateway fee with Stripe or PayPal | No built-in 1:1 scheduling (September 2026 profile) | No | Unlimited courses, quizzes, certificates; exams on Grow | 1 to 10 communities by plan | Not a headline feature on the plans we reviewed | Branded app as a $199/month add-on | 1.8 from 868 reviews |
Two things stand out. Podia is roughly half the price of Thinkific at the entry level, and Thinkific's public reviews are notably weaker than Podia's. Review scores are a rough signal rather than proof, but a gap that large is worth reading through before you commit.

How much do Podia and Thinkific cost in 2026?
Podia costs $49, $99 or $179 a month on monthly billing, or $42, $84 or $150 a month billed annually. Thinkific's self-serve plans cost $109, $219 or $499 a month, or $82, $164 or $374 a month billed annually, with a custom-priced Plus tier above them.
These are the prices both vendors listed in October 2026. Thinkific raised prices by about 10% on August 13, 2026 (Start went from $99 to $109, Grow from $199 to $219), added the Expand plan and removed its old Basic plan from the public pricing page. Podia's prices and limits were unchanged from earlier in the year.
| Plan | Monthly billing | Annual billing (per month) | Key limits and additions |
|---|---|---|---|
| Coachful | Lite: $29/month for up to 5 clients | Pro: $99/month with unlimited clients | Flat monthly plans; lower plans cap clients; Pro is unlimited; team plans add coach seats; 0% platform fee |
| Podia Mover | $49 | $42 ($504/year) | 50 products, 500 videos, 25 community spaces, 100 email subscribers; 5% transaction fee |
| Podia Shaker | $99 | $84 ($1,008/year) | 150 products, 1,000 videos, 100 spaces, 500 email subscribers, 1 assistant; 0% fee, affiliates, upsells, PayPal, Zapier |
| Podia Earthquaker | $179 | $150 ($1,800/year) | Unlimited products, videos, spaces and assistants; 1,000 email subscribers; 0% fee |
| Thinkific Start | $109 | $82 | 10,000 current students, 2 admins, 1 community (10 spaces), 5 live community events, 200 GB/month video bandwidth, group size 50 |
| Thinkific Grow | $219 | $164 | 6 admins, 3 communities, 400 GB/month; removes Thinkific branding; exams, B2B sales, API and webhooks |
| Thinkific Expand | $499 | $374 | 15 admins, 10 communities, 1,000 GB/month; email white-labeling, revenue sharing with up to 10 partners |
| Thinkific Plus | Custom | Custom | AI teaching assistant, SSO, SCORM, HubSpot/Salesforce, custom roles |

Thinkific's pricing page showed euro prices to our fetcher (Start €107 monthly or €79 annual, Grow €213 or €159, Expand €488 or €366). The dollar figures above come from Thinkific's official AI information page, which it marked as confirmed in October 2026.
What do transaction fees add?
Podia's Mover plan takes 5% of each sale on top of Stripe or PayPal processing (2.9% + 30¢ standard). Shaker and Earthquaker take 0%. Thinkific charges no transaction fee if you use Thinkific Payments, which it describes as in line with other processors at 2.9%; if you connect Stripe or PayPal directly, Thinkific adds a per-plan gateway fee that its pricing page does not quantify.
An illustrative example: a coach who sells $3,000 a month through Podia Mover pays $150 a month in Podia fees on top of the $49 plan, so the effective cost is about $199 before processing. At that revenue, Shaker at $99 with no Podia fee is cheaper. As a rough rule, the 5% fee costs more than the $50 gap between Mover and Shaker once your Podia sales pass about $1,000 a month.
What are the hidden costs?
- Podia email subscribers: only 100, 500 or 1,000 are included by plan. Extra subscribers cost more (Podia does not show the price and says it never upgrades you automatically). A coach with a 3,000-person list will pay above the sticker price.
- Thinkific branded app: $199 a month as an add-on, included only on select Plus contracts.
- Thinkific branding removal: only from Grow ($219 a month) upward.
- Scheduling on Thinkific: because it has no built-in 1:1 booking, coaches typically pay for a separate scheduling tool.
- Coaching tools on both: neither offers contracts with e-signature, habit tracking or client check-ins, so coaches who need those add more software.
Our dedicated guides break each price list down further: Podia pricing and Thinkific pricing.
Free trials
Podia offers a 14-day free trial with full access and no credit card or plan selection required. Thinkific offers a 30-day free trial on every self-serve plan; its page does not state whether a card is required. Neither has a permanent free plan in October 2026.
Which is better for selling online courses?
Thinkific is the better course platform. It is built around structured learning, with quizzes, certificates, bundles, payment plans, memberships and live cohorts on Start, then exams and question banks on Grow. Podia covers courses well for a simple catalogue but caps products and videos on its lower plans.
Thinkific's Start plan includes unlimited courses for up to 10,000 current students. That is plenty for most coaches, and the student cap is the main limit to watch. Its learning features are where it pulls ahead: certificates matter if you run a training or certification program, and exams with question banks (Grow and up) suit coach-training businesses or anyone selling to companies that need proof of completion. Plus adds SCORM and learning paths for corporate buyers.
Podia treats a course as one product among many. Mover allows 50 products and 500 videos, Shaker 150 products and 1,000 videos, and Earthquaker removes the caps. For a coach with two signature courses, a few downloads and a webinar replay, Mover's limits are generous. For a coach building a large video library, the 500-video cap on Mover is the first wall you meet.
Both sell courses with payment plans and bundles; Podia adds upsells on Shaker, and Thinkific includes bundles, upsells and payment plans from Start. If courses are the core of your income, our Kajabi vs Thinkific comparison and Podia vs Teachable comparison cover the other main contenders.
Which handles 1:1 coaching and booking better?
Podia handles coaching more directly: you can list coaching sessions as a product in your storefront. Thinkific sells coaching and webinar products but, according to its September 2026 profile, has no built-in 1:1 scheduling and relies on external booking links.
That difference matters day to day. On Thinkific, a coaching call usually means a product page that sends the buyer to a separate booking tool, so you manage your calendar, reminders and reschedules somewhere else. Thinkific's live cohorts and webinars run through Zoom, which works for group sessions but is not a 1:1 calendar.
Podia keeps the purchase and the coaching offer in one place, which is simpler for buyers. Its September 2026 profile notes no native video calls, so sessions still run on an outside video tool.
Neither platform keeps a client record in the coaching sense: there is no place for session notes, goals, intake answers, habits or check-ins tied to each client, and neither offers coaching agreements with e-signature. For a coach who runs 1:1 programs, that is the biggest gap in both tools. See our coaching scheduling software page for what a dedicated setup includes.
How do community, email and websites compare?
Podia includes more of the marketing stack on every plan: a website, email marketing and community spaces. Thinkific's community features are solid and scale with your plan, but Podia is the simpler all-in-one for a solo coach.
Community
Podia includes 25 community spaces on Mover, 100 on Shaker and unlimited on Earthquaker. Thinkific includes 1 community with 10 spaces and 5 live community events on Start, 3 communities with 20 spaces on Grow and 10 communities with 200 spaces on Expand. Both work for a course-plus-community model. For community-first comparisons, see Circle vs Podia and Skool vs Thinkific.
Podia includes email marketing, but the included subscriber counts are small: 100, 500 or 1,000. Thinkific's plan descriptions we reviewed focus on course, community and commerce features and add email white-labeling only on Expand. Coaches who rely on a newsletter often pair either tool with a separate email service, which adds to the total cost.
Website and integrations
Both give you a site with a custom domain. Podia lists a website among its included features on every plan and adds Zapier on Shaker. Thinkific includes a custom domain on Start and adds an API and webhooks on Grow, with HubSpot and Salesforce on Plus. Thinkific is the better fit if you need integrations into a larger business stack; Podia is easier if you want one place to run a small online business.
What does each platform look like for your clients?
On both platforms, the client experience is a student experience: buy a product, log in, watch lessons, join the community. That works for courses, but coaching clients usually need more between sessions.
On Podia, buyers land in a clean storefront and access what they purchased. There was no mobile app in its September 2026 profile, so clients use the browser. On Thinkific, students get a structured course player with quizzes and certificates, and you can buy a branded mobile app for $199 a month. Thinkific branding stays visible until you move to Grow.
What neither gives a coaching client: a daily view of their tasks and habits, morning and evening check-ins, goals with progress bars, booked sessions and signed agreements in the same place as their program content. If your clients mostly need content, that does not matter. If they need accountability between calls, it is the deciding factor.
Public reviews also shape expectations. Podia held 4.1 from 153 reviews on Trustpilot in October 2026; Thinkific held 1.8 from 868. Treat reviews as one input, and read recent ones for issues that apply to you, such as support response or billing.
Which should you pick for your kind of coaching?
Choose by how you earn: courses at scale point to Thinkific, a small mixed catalogue points to Podia, and coaching programs point to a coaching platform.
| Coach type | Best fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Coachful | Coaches delivering multi-week programs, solo or with a small team | Booking, payments, contracts, habits, check-ins, courses and community under one login |
| New coach selling a first mini-course and calls | Podia Mover | Lowest entry price; website, email and coaching products included |
| Coach with a growing digital catalogue and affiliates | Podia Shaker | 0% fee, affiliates, upsells, PayPal and Zapier |
| Coach-training school or certification provider | Thinkific Start or Grow | Certificates, quizzes, exams and question banks, high student limits |
| Coach selling courses to companies | Thinkific Grow or Plus | B2B sales and invoicing, API, SSO and SCORM on Plus |
| 1:1 or small-group coach with clients between sessions | Coachful | Neither Podia nor Thinkific offers habits, check-ins or per-client plans |
Business and executive coaches who sell mostly time should look at tools for business coaches; life coaches who deliver structured programs can see tools for life coaches.
Is there a third option? Coachful, honestly
Yes. If you coach clients rather than mainly sell courses, Coachful is built for that job and covers what both Podia and Thinkific leave out. If courses at scale are your business, Thinkific remains the better tool, and we say so below.

What Coachful is: a coaching platform. One subscription covers booking, payments, contracts, program delivery with habits and check-ins, courses, a community, a website with funnels and email, and an AI assistant, with one login for the coach and one branded app for the client. Who it is for: coaches who deliver programs, not just sessions; solo coaches growing into a small team; and coaches replacing four to six tools. What it does not do: it is not HIPAA-certified, does not support PayPal, has no permanent free plan, is not a course marketplace, and its client app runs under the Coachful listing with your branding rather than your own App Store account. How to start: take a free trial, then ask the team to build your setup with the free white-glove service.
Where Coachful beats both
- Coaching between sessions. Multi-week programs with weekly goals, daily tasks, habits, morning and evening check-ins, goals with progress bars and streaks. Neither Podia nor Thinkific offers this.
- Built-in booking. Booking pages with availability rules, buffers, minimum notice and time-zone detection; two-way Google, Apple/iCloud and Outlook sync; built-in video or auto-created Zoom, Meet or Teams links; email reminders plus SMS and WhatsApp once messaging is enabled; paid sessions and session credits.
- Contracts. Coaching agreements with e-signature, sent before the first call and stored on the client record.
- A real client record. Goals, check-ins, habits, notes, intake answers, tags, payments, sessions and an AI briefing per client, with a status of thriving, active, quiet or at risk.
- Fees. A 0% Coachful platform fee since August 2026; you pay only Stripe or Razorpay processing through your own account.
- Email without tiny caps. Lists, broadcasts and multi-step sequences with triggers, delays, branching and A/B splits.

This walkthrough shows how a program is built and delivered inside Coachful:
Courses are included too, with modules, lessons, drip and completion tracking, delivered into the client's branded home and app alongside downloads, videos, events and bundles. Community comes with a feed, group chat, direct messages and video events, and cohort groups are created automatically when someone enrolls in a program. See our course platform for coaches and group coaching software pages for detail.

For your clients, everything sits in one place: their next session, program week, tasks, habits, documents and progress.

Michelle, the built-in AI assistant, works from your live practice data: it builds programs, drafts emails and content, summarizes recorded sessions and briefs you before each session. Questions and planning are included in your Coachful membership; confirmed builds and changes use AI credits. Coachful also tracks coaching hours and distinct clients against ICF ACC, PCC and MCC thresholds and exports an ICF client coaching log.
Why Coachful stands out: a free white-glove service. From Create, choose "We'll build it for you", describe what you need (a website, funnel, sales page, program, course outline and written material, email sequence, form and more), and attach up to 8 reference links and 10 files. The Coachful team builds it inside your own account, usually within about 24 hours. Nothing is invented: no fake credentials, testimonials or prices, and gaps are left for you to fill. For example, a somatic coach leaving Kajabi had the homepage and About page rebuilt and the contact form connected, and a business mentor for beauty professionals got a 12-week mentorship sales page, a free start-up-guide funnel and rewritten follow-up emails. It does not include recording videos, logo design, ad management or ongoing marketing. Read more about the free white-glove service.

Where Podia or Thinkific beats Coachful
- Pick Thinkific over Coachful if you run a large course business or coach-training school that needs certificates, exams, question banks, SCORM, SSO, or 10,000 students on one plan.
- Pick Thinkific over Coachful if you need HubSpot or Salesforce integration (Plus) or want a separately branded mobile app, which Thinkific sells as an add-on.
- Pick Podia over Coachful if you mainly sell digital downloads and small courses, do not run client programs, and want the cheapest storefront with PayPal (Shaker and up).
- Pick either over Coachful if you need PayPal checkout, which Coachful does not support.
Coachful also does not sync with wearables such as Garmin, Fitbit, Whoop or Oura, has no third-party plugins, and records affiliate payouts manually rather than sending them. If those are must-haves, factor them in.
How hard is it to move from Podia or Thinkific?
Moving off either is manageable if you plan it. Both export contacts to CSV; course content needs more manual work.
According to their September 2026 profiles, Podia exports contacts to CSV, customers per product (active enrollments only) and sales or invoice records. Thinkific exports students and your email list to CSV, while course content is downloaded manually. Keep your original video files and lesson text somewhere you control, whichever platform you choose.
On the Coachful side, clients, programs and content are imported for you during onboarding, and you can export full client data as a ZIP (roster, notes, check-ins, goals, habits, sessions, form responses) plus your courses at any time. Our step-by-step guide on how to migrate from Thinkific covers the order of operations, and the Thinkific alternative page summarizes the differences.
What should you check before you decide?
Run a short checklist against your own business before committing to either platform.
- Where does your revenue come from? Mostly course sales points to Thinkific or Podia. Mostly coaching clients points to a coaching platform.
- How big is your email list? Over 1,000 subscribers means Podia's included allowance will not cover you on any plan.
- How much will you sell each month? Above about $1,000 a month, Podia's Mover fee outweighs the upgrade to Shaker.
- Do clients book 1:1 calls? On Thinkific you will need a separate booking tool.
- Do clients need accountability between sessions? Neither Podia nor Thinkific offers habits or check-ins.
- Do you need PayPal? Podia supports it from Shaker; Thinkific supports it with a gateway fee.
- Will you hire staff? Podia allows 1 assistant on Shaker and unlimited on Earthquaker; Thinkific allows 2, 6 or 15 admins by plan.
